Gloria Arroyo’s chief spook throws lavish party

Following is Fe Zamora’s story ” Isafp holds lavish Christmas bash with ‘Emperor’ “in today’s issue of Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Decadent!

Update: AFP warned soldiers against solicitation for their Christmas party but played deaf and blind to reports of solicited appliances given away by ISAFP Chief Delfin Bangit in their party last Wednesday.

AMID shouts of “Long Live the Emperor,” Armed Forces intelligence chief Brig. Gen. Delfin Bangit threw P500 bills, like they were candy, at the Isafp (Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines) Christmas party held on Wednesday night.

Easily the grandest party in Camp Aguinaldo this season, the Christmas bash of the Intelligence Service of the AFP turned the highly secured compound into a rock concert-cum-Oktoberfest-cum-noontime TV show, complete with stand-up comics from popular bars on Timog and Quezon Avenue.

One insider told the Inquirer that “it was the most lavish” Christmas party ever celebrated at the Isafp headquarters.

AFP information officer Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro declined to comment on the Isafp party. “I don’t really know what transpired during the party,” he told the Inquirer yesterday.

An Isafp employee defended Bangit. “He gave gifts in the spirit of Christmas. Besides, most of the raffle prizes were solicited,” the employee said on condition that her name would not be published.

An Isafp operative said the party was intended to boost the morale of Isafp. This could be the reason why music from three live bands could be heard on the side streets outside the compound. They performed ’70s hits and today’s Pinoy rap.

“It’s eat all you can, drink all you can,” an Inquirer source said.

The sumptuous fare included six roasted calves and an assortment of delicacies spread out on U-shaped buffet tables, the source added. Draft beer flowed and hard drinks were available in cases.

The stage groaned with raffle prizes that included motorcycles, refrigerators, TV sets, ovens, electric fans, mountain bikes and other home appliances, the source said.

Just before midnight, the party was interrupted with a video presentation on the capture of fugitive former Sen. Gregorio Honasan at the Enclave Townhomes in Quezon City last month.

As a way of introducing the video, members of MIG-21, the lead operating team in the arrest of the alleged coup leader, presented a comedy skit that starred a barely dressed man and woman, apparently referring to Honasan and his friend, Ingrid Ramos, the source said.

After the video presentation, Bangit stood up and commended the team.

“Then everybody started shouting, ‘Long live the emperor!’” the source added.

A sergeant assigned to one of the Isafp units confirmed that “emperor” is their code name for Bangit, who was head of the Presidential Security Group, before he was named Isafp chief months ago.

MIG-21, the Isafp unit that handles electronic intelligence, was in the limelight last year after former National Bureau of Investigation deputy chief Samuel Ong named MIG-21 agent T/Sgt. Vidal Doble as the source of the “Hello Garci” tapes.

Doble was “grounded” by the Isafp leadership, but no charges were filed as he had apparently returned to work at MIG-21.

The Inquirer got a confirmed report last month that Doble was among the Isafp agents who were “mobiled” for the operations that led to the arrest of Honasan.

The revelry continued past midnight with Bangit whipping out a bundle of P500 bills and throwing them to his audience, one of the sources said.

“It was fun and we tried to catch the bills. Wala akong nakuha (I didn’t catch any),” one sergeant said with a laugh.

Bangit also crumpled some of the bills into paper balls and tossed them to the audience, the sources said.

“He was drunk, that would explain his behavior,” one of the sources said.

The revelry continued with the “emperor” offering P1,000 to anyone who could drink a mug of draft beer in one swig, the source said.

“It was like Oktoberfest,” the source added.

Still having fun at the beer-drinking party, Bangit also offered P1,000 to anyone who could dance with a bottle of beer on his head—without spilling a drop.

All the money-throwing fun were done to the tune of Wowowee’s (noontime TV show) “Boomtarattarat,” the source continued.

Another source said Bangit had been throwing parties at Isafp almost every other day just this month alone.

On Tuesday, Bangit also brought the Isafp staff to a party with President Macapagal-Arroyo aboard the presidential yacht “Ang Pangulo.”

you bet, ellen! what are they in power for, ika nga. it’s payback time. at kailangan talaga nilang bilhin ang loyalty ng kanilang mga tao.
just reminds me of sodom and gomorrah. how those in power partied and orgied like there’s no tomorrow. and soon enough, in one fell swoop, sodom and gomorrah was turned into ashes.
soon, we will have our justice and our deliverance from the clutches of this dwendeng itim and her minions.

If Bangit’s the emperor, I wonder what that makes GMA.

  4. Isabel, what an apt comparison: Sodom and Gomorrah.

Fake emperor Bangit partied with the fake president Glueria! Nagkakamutan sila!

Gloria is heavily dependent on the AFP to stay in office. That explains why generals litter our government offices and government owned and controlled corporations. This only shows that our generals are now literally swimming in so much money that they can afford to throw some away (no doubt, loose changes). GMA must have the best thing that ever happened to our AFP generals.

But always remember, there’s always the time for paying back. I just hope that’s soon.

Well picture this….you’re watching a video, it’s presented on a “split-screen” format. On one half we can watch this “FANFARE” of a party by the ISAF, with this “mekening” bangit throwing all those crisp 500 peso bills, on a rowdy drunk to their neck “men of the armed forces” and their families…now, on the other half, hundreds if not thousands of our UNFORTUNATE “Kababayans” in Bicol are suffering because of hunger, and lack of decent habitat because of the recent calamity that hit them. OOOppss, excerpt footages of the party held on board the BRP Panggulo with gloria, bangit laughing out loud, so loud that we can clearly see the inside of their throats while gulping expensive wines fit for decent kings and high people, not to PIGS like these animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. vic vic

The Emperor Has no clothes!!Drunk of power, of taxpayers money and while partying to their hearts delight thousands of children won’t even have any gifts from their own parents or from anyone this Christmas. Another nest of corrupt people feasting on the already plundered resource of the nation led by an Emperor without clothes or without “modo”.

Dole-outs from the different NGOs and private groups and individuals are not enough to help solve the BIG PROBLEMS that our Bicolano Kababayans are experiencing, add this hundreds or so families of Tunasan, Muntinlupa whose houses where torched to the ground by an “accident” the other day. This Bangit could have at least atoned for some of his SINS if he would have just initiated a drive in helping these unfortunate Filipinos, not “pamper” his “wolves” with lavish parties and extravagant “gifts”. ISANG TUNAY NA REBOLUSYON ANG KAILANGAN SA ATING BANSA UPANG MALINIS NA ANG MGA KABULUKANG ITO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unbeleivable,Bangit want to emulate Willie from WOWOWIE.At least Willie has some decency in handing out money. But,to throw in a crowd,it’s like trowing a piece of meat to a hungry wolves.I’ve been almost all over the globe but,I never see a person throwing money in an audience. He revealed his color he thinks,He is Onassis a billionaire.Bill Gates donated money quietly,it come deep in his heart. That’s he’s own money.Bangit doesn’t have money. That’s my tax money and you. There’s nothing wrong giving some bonus to your subbordonates but, have courtesy put it in the envelope.Account everyone and make sure each one got their own piece of the meat.I’m here in Golden States and I recieved my bonus in check tax deducted. My poor motherland,God have Mercy on my people.

    APOLINARIO MABINI (from sundalo.bravehost.com):

A revolution may be conducted against a national government, if such a government has abused the power placed at its disposal by the people, with the purpose of having injustice administered, by using this power to drown out the public voice and at the same time to administer to its own convenience or caprice…

I’ve been told that Abra is virtually a war zone now with fully-loaded army trucks roaming the streets. I guess moreso with the town of Bangued where the Bersamins and the Valeras are just separated by a fence. Now that Valera has been tagged as mastermind by one of his cousin’s assailants, I wonder how their own private armies will figure in this brewing war since some of Valera’s men are Bersamins and some of Bersamin’s men are Valeras.

Magulo yan. Mahirap mapagitna sa nagpapatayang magkamag-anak. Lalo na kung may eleksiyon.

Regarding the lavish partying of the Isafp, it isn’t surprising that this unintelligent Intelligence Service has lots of money to splurge on booze, roasted calves, and pussy. TSgt. Vidal Doble, an enterprising Isafp soldier, sells A1 material as his part-time job. He made a cool P2M for the Hello Garci masters. Enough to support his 3 wives for a few months. If this lowly sergeant can produce P2M with much ease, how much can the colonels and generals make? How many wives do they maintain?

Sobrang bangit na ang kasundaluhan. Garapal.

    Are you alright, sirs?

That money should have been given out with more meaning and spirit if handed out to the needy. The poor living under the bridge, the homeless on the sidewalk, the kids caroling at the streets, wherein some have already lost their lives.

a cut from rey arcilla’s column in malaya:

    23 december 2006

    Gonzales is off-tangent
    on Pozon

    ——————————————————————————–

There he goes again, shooting his mouth off, uttering uncalled for smart-alecky remarks unbecoming of a person in his position.

I refer to our pathetic Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales who accused Judge Benjamin Pozon of “interpreting the provisions of the VFA in order to suit his agenda.”

He said Judge Pozon was “sympathetic to Nicole and leftist group.”

And who, may I ask, is the honorable(?) secretary sympathetic to?

As a Filipino, and justice secretary at that, shouldn’t he be sympathetic to Nicole, the victim and not foreigner found guilty of raping her?

Then Gonzales adds: “I think his (Pozon’s) agenda is to please the Left. Maybe he thinks that by doing so, he would be praised and would get the kudos and hosannas of certain sectors. He’s sympathetic to the victim. He’s sympathetic to those who support the victim, and who are those supporting the victim?

I have news for Gonzales. The majority of the Filipinos are sympathetic to the victim, Nicole.

    ***

Not everyone who speaks against iniquitous arrangements with the United States or any Western power is a leftist. Has it ever occurred to Gonzales and others like him that they could be patriotic Filipinos who love their own people and country above others?

Even if they are leftists, at least they are Filipinos who most certainly love the Philippines more than the Americans or other foreigners do.

What does that make of Gonzales and others like him in government and elsewhere, who would take the side of foreigners over their own countrymen? In certain situations, they would be called traitors.

    ***

    (….)

  45. Mrivera:

Sinabi mo pa! I don’t consider myself a leftist as a matter of fact. I am more of a rightist, but I will not mince words against any American who will try to break our laws and say that he is right to do so because he is from the most powerful nation in the world. Aba, e kagaguhan na iyan.

60 years ago, the Philippines got its independence from the USA. The Filipinos owe it to themselves that they were able to get their freedom as a matter of fact. Abandon ship nga ang nangyari when the Americans found out that the country was so devastated at the end of WW2 that they decided they would not hold tight to the islands they occupied in 1898.

It’s the same thing that happened re the Mt. Pinatubo devastation. Ayaw pa nga nilang umalis noon despite the ratification of the ban on foreign military bases in the Philippines in 1992.

No, it is not anti-Americanism but pro-Philippinism that this VFA should be criticized and scrapped. In fact, a friend of mine told me that the US does not allow weapons used in the Balikatan to be left unwatched by an American in the Philippines, and after each day’s exercise, they are well-accounted for kasi baka daw nakawin ng mga pilipino!!! If that is not insulting Filipinos, what is? A guy claiming to be one of the Bansot’s uncredited ministers in fact bragged about such information to me.

To be anti-American is not being a leftist. It is being a patriotic Filipino as a matter of fact.

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

As China prestige increases, America’s power declines. Recent statistics showed an estimated gross domestic product of China to be $1.8 trillion second to Japan’s $5 trillion. At the expense of the US, trade between China and Japan is increasing. About 80% of Japan’s increase in exports came from China’s demands. China has already displaced the US as Japan’s largest source of imports.

In recent years, the US concentrated on wars and Europe neglecting Asia including her close allies. There’s also no question that America is still the world’s greatest military power; and it would be stupid and a suicide to attack the US land.

However, war is seldom initiated by direct military conflict. At the least, that’s what the Chinese think. Sabi nga ng tanyag nilang Heneral na si Sun Tsu sa kanyang sinulat na “The Art of War”: In antiquity, those that excelled in warfare first made themselves unconquerable in order to await the moment when the enemy could be conquered. Look at the current relationship between China and the US. Instead of resisting the gradual takeover of American dominance, the US seems to be only watching while China takes the lead as a new superpower.

And as Asia is becoming the world’s central operations, its rise is hastening the decline of America and hindering the rise of a united Europe. Instead, Asian countries particularly those belonging to ASEAN would be depending on China, Japan and even India. Therefore, it would be wise to start strengthening our relationship with larger Asian neighbors like China and Japan.

  51. I have never trusted Mike Velarde.

Gloria Arroyo and he deserve each other.

And why would the people who work for truth and justice need Velarde at this point? Where was he all these time?

About Bro. Mike Velarde, one only has to check his past to understand why he’s behaving this way today. He was a self-confessed gambling addict. Such narration sounds familiar to many of us isn’t it?

Most preachers use the same story. Unknown to many faithful, I once learned that the reason why the mother church, the Catholic Church, allowed Velarde to form his own group was to prevent the disgruntled Catholics from moving to other religious groups like Iglesia Ni Cristo.

Velarde formed his group El Shaddai at a time when Charismatic Born Again groups were popular and became a fad. Kaya nga may tinatawag na Born Again Catholics at Born Again Christians (Protestants). Velarde uses a very effective preaching style: Gospel of Prosperity.

Even with a terrible Tagalog accent, Velarde has proven to be a very good speaker. He’s a very good salesman. Have you ever attended some marketing and sales seminars where you get to listen to high powered motivational speakers?

We can’t blame the members, though. If they can find some comfort and happiness in joining the group, then fine.

People have even noticed the gold eyeglasses Velarde is wearing. How many carats? We don’t know. He also wears very expensive, signature suits and clothes. If asked he would proudly say all these are given to him by loving members for free. And when he travels, he has a convoy of security equals if not more than than of the President. To further hold on to power, he allowed his son to run as Congressman and indeed now a solon. His son is undoubtedly El Shaddai’s conduit to Congress and Malacanang. El Shaddai’s former spokesman Mel Robles has long been appointed Chairman of LRT. What else?

Taiwan steps up patrol in disputed South China Sea: report

Sun Dec 24, 2:08 AM ET

TAIPEI (AFP) – Taiwanese coastguards have stepped up patrol in the disputed South China Sea after local fishermen complained that they were harassed and robbed by Vietnamese pirates, it has been reported.

The move came as Taiwan is building a runway on one of the islands in the disputed Spratlys, sparking protest from Vietnam.

The coastguards, whose frigates previously sailed to Tongsha (Pratas) once every month, have extend patrols to the disputed Sisha (Paracel) islets, which are about 1,100 kilometers from Taiwan, the Liberty Times said.

Tongsha is some 455 kilometers (273 miles) from Taiwan.

The new patrol area also covers waters off the disputed Jhongsha (Macclesfileld Bank) islands, it said.

“There were frequent reports of pirates ransacking fishing and cargo vessels sailing through that area,” Cheng Chang-hsiung, head of the Maritime Patrol Directorate General, told the daily.

“Local fishermen also complained that their fishing nets and catches were stolen by Vietnamese fishermen,” Cheng said.

However, Taiwanese fishermen were unenthusiastic about the expanded coastguard patrol saying it did little to protect local fishing boats operating off the disputed Spratlys, a major fishing ground for 200 fishing vessels from southern Taiwan.

Taiwan in January 2006 rejected Vietnam’s demand that it stop building a runway in the Spratly Islands.

Vietnam’s foreign ministry had described the building of the runway as a “severe violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty” and said it would have a negative impact on peace, stability and regional cooperation.

Taiwan, Vietnam, Brunei, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines claim all or part of the potentially oil-rich Spratlys.

All claimants except Brunei have troops based on the archipelago of more than 100 islets, reefs and atolls, which have a total land mass of less than five square kilometres (two square miles).

The Sprately islands will trigger a major conflict in the region in the near future. Mark my word. These places are not only rich in oil deposits and mineral resources, they are very helpful as military posts as offense and defense.

    Taiwan quake cuts communications

    Taipei

    December 27, 2006 – 5:57PM

A strong earthquake off Taiwan’s southern coast killed two people and damaged undersea cables, cutting off phone and Internet service today to parts of China, South Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia and the United States.

Yesterday’s quake, which hit offshore from the town of Hengchun near Taiwan’s southern tip, came on the second anniversary of the tsunami that killed more than 200,000 lives in southern Asia.

It was felt throughout Taiwan, shaking buildings and knocking objects off the shelves in Taipei, in the northern part of the island.

Two members of one family were killed in Hengchun when their four-storey home collapsed.

The quake injured 42 people, three homes collapsed and 12 fires broke out, the National Fire Agency said.

Repairing the cables harmed by the 6.7-magnitude tremor could take three weeks but “quality will improve day by day,” said Lin Jen-hung, vice general manager of Chunghwa Telecom Co, Taiwan’s largest phone company.

The company said damage to a cable off Taiwan’s southern coast has interrupted 98 per cent of Taiwan’s communications capacity with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

The damaged lines knocked out Internet service for some Hong Kong customers, who were unable to access websites in parts of Asia and the US.

Hong Kong telephone company PCCW Ltd, which also provides Internet service, said several undersea data cables were damaged.

“Data traffic to Taiwan, Korea, Japan and the United States are affected,” PCCW said in a statement.

The company also warned customers that they may experience congestion for several days on the Internet because of an upsurge in use as people surf the Web for more information about the quake.

Financial traders in Hong Kong – one of Asia’s biggest business capitals – complained they had lost their connection to Bloomberg LP, a key provider of news and data about stock markets.

Internet access has been cut or has become extremely slow in Beijing, said an official from China Netcom, China’s No.2 phone company.

The official, who would not give his name, said the cause was thought to be the earthquake, but he had not further details.

Businesses in various parts of the city also said they were experiencing Internet access problems.

CCTV, the state-run television network, said the earthquake had damaged undersea communications cables from China to the United States and from Asia to Europe.

It said China Telecom Corp, China’s biggest phone company, was contacting counterparts in the United States and Europe about using satellites to make up for the shortfall.

Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said that international roaming service provided by Japan’s major three telecommunications – NTT DoCoMO, KDDI, and Softbank, had been affected.
