JV Ejercito withdraws from Senate race for Sonia Roco

San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito, one of the candidates of the United Opposition, today withdrew from the senatorial race.

One of UNO’s spokesmen, Rufus Rodriguez, said Ejercito withdrew after consultation with his father, former President Estrada, for a broader, unified coalition.

Sources said JV is giving way for the entry of Sonia Roco, widow of former Sen. Raul Roco.

Just got a text from JV:

I would like to thank you for the trust and support you have given me as a senatorial aspirant. There comes a time when you need to sacrifice for the sake of the country.

Be rest assured that I will continue standing up for what is right and what is just. Para sa Bayan!

JV is within the Magic 12 (number 9) in the latest survey of Pulse Asia on senatorial candidates.

  1. Sonia Roco! That would be a brilliant if unexpected choice for Erap Estrada. Maybe he is not a stupid as some people thought. He ought to maybe put Kit Tatad in there too just to put an exclamation point on what may be an inspired decision. And to add some intellectual gravitasse to a slate just a tad light in that department.

Or…is he planning to run himself?! Now that is what he truly owes the nation and his friend FPJ–to be himself the nail on Gloria’s political coffin!

  2. jr_lad jr_lad

i agree. it’s indeed a brilliant move for JV to pull-out and bring mrs roco in. she’s been on my list eversince her name came out.

  3. I was told that if villar, pangilinan, recto and joker arroyo come in, that would complete the picture.

If Recto and Arroyo decide for the administration ticket,
they will choose from honasan, trillanes, adel tamano ( If adel decides to run.) and TG Guingona.

  4. chi chi

Excellent move on the part of the Estradas! Bata pa naman si JV for the next elections and will forever possess the pang-masa magic surname Ejercito-Estrada for his convenience.

“The Force” collapses; Wednesday Group splits up

    By Angie M. Rosales

    02/08/2007

They are no longer the “Wednesday group.”

Even before the four reelectionist senators could “convene” last night for their crucial meet, a gathering that was supposed to shape up their fate in the coming national polls, the so-called “The Force” in the Senate collapsed.

The group composed of Senate President Manuel Villar Jr., Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan, Senators Ralph Recto and Joker Arroyo who all belong to the administration bloc in the Senate, were reported last night to have decided to “part ways.”

  10. Another messsage from JV:

It’s not an easy decision considering that I have a big chance of making it. But when you put the country’s interest above self interest, it somehow becomes easy.

Please support the young guys, Chiz, Alan Peter and Trillanes.

    from tribunes’s business corner:

Gov’t wants out from TI annual corruption survey

To solve the utterly dismal corruption perceptions rating of the country under President Arroyo’s administration, the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC) had proposed to the global corruption watchdog Transparency International (TI) to drop the Philippines from its annual listing.

PAGC chairman Constancia de Guzman wrote TI chairman Huguette Labelle to complain about the perenially low ranking that the Philippines gets from TI on its annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), in which the country was ranked a lowly 121st of 163 countries in the 2006 list.

De Guzman, also questioned the integrity of the local TI chapter chairman Dolores Español.

he he heh! nagmamalinis pa, eh sumisingaw naman ang kabulukan. ito namang bayarang sipsip na chairwoman ng pidal’s abuse, graft and corrupt protection office, todo paglalangis sa mag-asawang baboy at daga.

  12. Magno:

Hahahaha!

Hahahahahaha! Sino ang niloloko nila, aber?

  14. If we are looking at this mid-term election as some kind of referendum for or against Gloria, to complete the picture, will be good to have former President Estrada join as senatorial candidate.

  16. BOB BOB

Saludo ako kay JV….welcome sa line up ko na iboboto si Sonia Roco…ako din Chi, hindi ko masikmura si Mr.Noted laglag siya sa akin as in lagapak…

  17. Made a random survey of members of such groups as El Shaddai, etc.in Tokyo for the Opposition, and these are the names of the people they say they want to run and will vote for:

    Chiz Escudero
    Alan Cayetano
    Kokoy Pimentel
    Sonny Trillanes
Loren Legarda (not my choice really)
    Teofisto Guingona
    Adel Tamano
    Sonia Roco
    Noynoy Aquino
    Nikki Coseteng
    Loi Ejercito
    Gringo Honasan

Most Filipinos in Japan will definitely not vote for the administration’s candidates, but if they run and win, then, everybody here knows they have cheated. No doubt about that! Muhkang magagaya ang takbo sa Amerika! Yehey!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  18. Elvira Sahara Elvira Sahara

Hats off ako kay JV! Tulad mo Chi, I can’t stomach the face of Mr. Sharon Cuneta!
I’m not very familiar of Sonia Roco. Anybody can enlighten me why she could be a good senator?

  19. The future Senators of this country along with future GOOD members of the Lower House must do something about the state of the nation as per assessment by the Tribune:

“The Philippines now has the most unpopular President ever in the world’s political history.

“The Reporters sans Frontieres (RSF) cited the Philippines as the most dangerous country for journalists.

“The country is perceived to be among the most corrupt in the world by Transparency International (TI) and the fourth most-corrupt country in Asia according to Hong Kong’s Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC).

    “It is Asia’s biggest debtor.

“It is also one of the mostly restrictive economies according to the Heritage Foundation, and one of the world’s most uncompetitive economy, according to the World Economic Forum.

“The country is also among the biggest exporters of labor in the world and has the most number of political killings.”

If they can’t straighten up Pinas, the people of Pinas must take matters in their hands by using Mr Guillotin’s invention.

  20. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Good move by Erap..and JV..and Loi. They keep this up and they may yer change a lot of negative public opinion about them. Sonia Roco is a good choice.
    – Mr. Noted has been proven to be of weak character.
    – Mr. Vi is trying hard to appear independent and plays it safe, but when push comes to shove, his colors show.
    – Joker has actually nowhere to go. He led the prosecution of Erap in the impeachment. He’s too principled to go to bed with Erap even if Erap is extending a hand of reconciliation. And if he is as principled as he appears to show, he definitely cannot and should not join Gloria’s Gorillas. Best thing for him is to retire and give way to Adel Tamano. The battle-scarred warrior deserves a well-earned rest.
    – Villar is a pragmatist, a smart player. Keeps his cards close to his chest. Knows how to parry questions from the inquisitive media. You don’t know what he’ll do till the last minute. This guy knows the landscape. But it’s worth it to keep him on the opposition ticket.

  21. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

As for Loren, she’s a bit too fakey for me. Fake smile, fake grin, high falutin “I feel for the poor and the environment…I am an achiever, I am principled, I am disciplined, I am persistent, I am hard working” lingo. I dunno. There’s just something fake about her. Could be as fake as the Midget.

  22. Phil,

Apparently, Loren was a hardworking senator.

In my book, most politicians have a fake whatever.

I don’t particularly like her but if she works as hard as she’s reputed to be with one aim in mind: to bring down Gloria’s government when she becomes Senator, suits me fine to vote for her.

Enough of the niceties – the goal is to shoot Gloria and her family down.

Any senatoriable who promises to work his/her ass out to bring down Gloria, her family of pigs and their government of the wickerd by the wicked for the wicked should be elected.

  23. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

    Philippine Vigil,

You’re so right there. For one moment I forgot. The goal, as you said “is to shoot Gloria and her family down.” And Loren has one of the most valid reasons ever to do some shooting.

  24. Ganoon kasagwa, ha, PV? Kawawang Pilipinas! Asia’s biggest debtor? Same as when her father was president and his predecessor had to pay heavily for the debts incurred from 1962-66. I am told that the daughter blogging in all the Filipino fora is being groomed to be the mother’s successor someday, and reason for the publicity on her, more than her brothers, and worst, for the attempt to make the Great Switik a queen with some Chacha being pushed by some devil advocates calling themselves “legions” as in the disembodied spirits that entered a herd of swines after being exorcised from a body of a man!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  25. joeseg joeseg

JV’s move to withdraw for all intent and purposes is Erap’s move. It’s Erap’s way of slapping Tatad’s face on the latter’s diatribes against family dynasty which was directed to Erap. It’s like “killing him softly with his love”. It’s amazing if Tatad’s reply would be “what I am writing for is nor for you..hoo!”

If a perceived winner like JV as gleaned from the latest survey can withdraw from the race, how can’t the likes of Villar, Recto, Pangilinan, Joker, Oreta, Sotto, Angara do the same and sacrifice a little with swallowed pride of not running and giving way to the new and younger batch?

JV’s move ay sampal din sa mukha to those in the opposition who will be cavorting with gma and run under her ticket. It’s a signal to the masa na ilaglag sila. Woe unto them, it’s like a kiss of death for them.

  26. Elvie,

I am not also so keen about Sonia Roco. The only thing I know about her and can remember was the news on how she would use government car, etc. for her personal activities that in progressive societies is a big no-no. I don’t know if that would not be hurled against the Opposition if she accepts. But then, I may be wrong. Ellen, and the rest in the Philippines may try to enlighten them on her sans the publicity stunts!

At least, in the case of Adel Tamano, there are proofs of the integrity of the man and how he would be able to conduct himself, and be useful. Besides, they need to have a balance of representative of all groups of people in the Philippines as in the case of the Moslems that Tamano can be their representative Senator!

SAKIT NG PILIPINAS, SI TRILLANES ANG LUNAS!
ALAN CAYETANO, PAG-ASA NG MGA PILIPINO, HAWAK MO!
CHIZ ESCUDERO, KASINGTAPANG NG LOLO ESCUDERO!
BASTA OPPOSITION OK! OTHERWISE, NO WAY!!!

  27. Sorry, this should read: and the rest in the Philippines may try to enlighten US on her sans ANY publicity stunt!

  28. Chabeli Chabeli

Very admirable of JV ! If there is one character that JV is known for it is his humility.
    *****************
    Phil Cruz,
Your comments (February 9th, 2007 at 12:04 am) on Loren is interesting..you know, that did cross my mind. In fact, I felt there was something not right w/ Loren but could not put my finger to it, until I read your comments. Loren is too into herself, ““I feel for the poor and the environment…I am an achiever, I am principled, I am disciplined, I am persistent, I am hard working” lingo.” Too much of “I”. Makes you wonder whether the woman is simply arrogant.

  29. Chabeli,

I know first hand that she’s arrogant, i.e., she fired one of Tony’s female friends, a great friend of mine, who had successfully helped Tony with his card mumbo jumbo tricks to collect funds, donations, contributions for her campaign when she ran for Senator firt time.

She’s one typical jealous-stricken female but that’s fine with me if she can do some kicking ass, if not she should look after Tony instead.

  30. joeseg joeseg

    Ystakei

I like that “basta opposition ok, otherwise, no way!!!
What matters now is to blank gma’s ticket first.

Nabasa ko rito, UNO is concentration only in it’s senatorial slate at napapabayaan ang locals. At the moment, yes. Kasi the fight starts at the top with the deadline to beat on the final list. The local candidates will have up to March 29 deadline and it will all depend on the next move of UNO because it’s not yet a party that has local chapters in the first place. UNO at the moment is an aggrupation of LP, NP, NPC, PMP, PDP, mix-mix political colors.

  31. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

    Joeseg,
But what about NPC? What kind of animal is it? Opposition or Administration? This party confounds me.

  32. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

    Joeseg,
I have the feeling that the Administration has given up on ever winning the Senate race. And that they will be focusing on the Congressmen for Gloria’s survival on the next impeachment. What’s your tack on this?

  33. joeseg joeseg

    Phil Cruz

NPC is what I called mix-mix, parang bakla. It’s neither here nor there. Wika nga, namamangka sa dalawang river.

Opinion ko lang. Danding Cojuangco is watching momentarily. Sa lasa ko, may hidden agenda rin siya but he won’t divulge. Corporate secret. Marahil sa tingin niya, he can’t go against gma at this point in time. Presently, he allows his partymen to go where they are comfortable. Chiz Escudero is NPC but became the Minority party leader at the House. Bakit hindi nya pinigil si Chiz blasting his guns towards gma at the height of the impeachment and until now? NPC initiated the move to impeach Davide then become silent and meek as a lamb after it’s debacle.

When he accepted Tessie Oreta and Tito Sotto at NPC, politics is addition, he’s building up. Danding didn’t announced that he will fight for the duo to be included agad sa unity ticket or bargained with UNO. No words to that effect. Let the press print speculations, let the people stay wondering. So now, we’re wondering what he’s up to. Looking towards 2010, maybe. If gma survives up to that point. It’s my reading on NPC.

  34. joeseg joeseg

    Phil Cruz

You maybe right that gma is not much working to win the senate although she’s trying to hook winnables to her side.

And yes, the next fight is in the locals, notably among the congressmen. Being under the aegis of gma is a plus factor because of logistics. At the start, all gma annointed congressional candidates will sing hosannas and all praise for gma pero as election nears, rambulan na. And here, babaha ng pera. Sa gitna ng kampanyahan, there will be lots of mudslings, siraan kabi-kabila at medyo madugo sa ibang lugar. But judging from what I observed and feel among the electorate in our area, they will be more sympathetic to the oppositionists kahit may perang ipamudmod ang administration candidates. Text messaging is playing an important role in the rural areas. They are aware of the issues, aware of the candidates’s advocacy. Barring massive cheating, considerable number of opposition congressmen will be elected, not a majority but enough to initiate another impeachment.

Basta, huwag ninyo akong kalimutan.

  35. Danding, as I have stated previously, is more a businessman than a politician. We must remember that he ran for president in 1992 versus FVR with Erap as his Vice President. He lost because Imelda also ran for president on the prodding maybe of supporters of Ramos, and the Marcos Loyalists votes were divided between her and Danding.

Come to think of it, that was actually what Gloria did in 2004. She encouraged Roco and even Lacson to run so that FPJ could not have a monopoly of the Opposition votes by having her men infiltrate the Opposition camps.

That is why I think it good riddance that Sotto and Oreta left on their own accord the Opposition to make it easier for Bjnay, et al to make choices that the Filipino voters would find good and promising.

    Rodolfo Biazon
    Renato Cayetano
    Franklin Drilon
    Juan Flavier
    Teofisto Guingona, Jr.
    Loren Legarda
    Ramon Magsaysay, Jr.
    Sergio Osmeña III
    Aquilino Pimentel, Jr.
    Raul Roco

That was a brave thing to do JV. While others not in magic 12 are trying to get in, you opted to “ipaubaya sa iba ang pagkakataon PARA SA BAYAN.” Stay in the local scene where most of the national fight will focus anyway.

I hope Chiz and Allan Peter make it but Trillanes will have to work overtime while in detention. Let all those against Gloria present themselves so the people will have a wider choice, but do not let any of the admin people come in, especially defensor.

It’s fun time for the people again, they are in the limelight again, but this time they should guard against the cheating machine. Damn the cheaters!

  38. JV showed statesmanship. Its a slap on Tatad’s face. The poop has been is trying to reinvent himself. We all know what his true color is, another hatchet man.

  39. chi chi

    Elvira,

Gusto ko pa nga sana si JV dahil mukhang mas matalino kesa kay Jinggoy, pero mas pinahanga niya ako sa kanyang ginawang pag-atras to give way to someone else para mabawasan ang tensyong political.

  40. chi chi

    Ellen,

  41. Juan del Mundo Juan del Mundo

    “Good move by Estradas.”

Now, that’s not just good politics. It confirms what some middle class suspected, what the masa have known all along — Erap, the Estradas, got the heart for the people, may puso para sa bayan. Kapamilya Estradas, kapuso ng bayan. I really won’t mind a dynasty but not the Macapagal-Arroyo conjugal dynasty!

  42. chi chi

  43. chi chi

Pandawan says “That was a brave thing to do JV. While others not in magic 12 are trying to get in, you opted to “ipaubaya sa iba ang pagkakataon PARA SA BAYAN.” Stay in the local scene where most of the national fight will focus anyway.”

    Cheers to JV!

  44. joeseg joeseg

Manay Chi, long tme no hear!

Medyo natulog muna ako after my post 5 hours ago at ngayon, nag-aalmusal naman habang tumitipaklong.

Gambling lord, jueteng lord, drug lord, boxing lord, sabong lord at sakla lord!

    Breaking news!

gma was kidnapped and ransom of P2B is demanded or else she will die by burning. fg mike is asking donations from the pipol. I already donated 50 liters of gasoline, please donate yours.

  45. chi chi

    joeseg,

I’m donating 50 big boxes of posporo.

Mayroon ba nun?

Mas maganda sana kung antimano sinabi ni JV na si Trillanes ang kapalit instead of Sonia Roco, lalo sigurong 3 cheers for JV, di ba Manay Chi?

Pero looking back, Raul (Roco, may he rest in peace, not the present raul), was one of the bitterest critics of Erap at the senate. There was one time sa DEBATE, a GMA-ch. 7 tv show (Oca Orbos and Winnie Monsod), Raul Roco was so intense in his tirade against Erap (hindi pa nakakulong si Erap noon) that the latter called in from somewhere and joined in the debate. Imagine on national tv, erap vs. roco, but it was! But now, Sonia the wife, is a beneficiary of JV’s quitting the race in her favor. Hindi ba kagila- gilalas, Manay Chi? Ako’y nagugulumihanan!

  47. Joeseg, in last Tuesday’s “Strictly Politics”, Pia Hontiveros asked JV about his thoughts being in the same ticket with people who played a big part in the ouster of his father. JV said something like the need to go beyond their personal pain of EDSA 2 and think of what the country needs now.

Which is to restore the rule of law, good governance, honesty, integrity. To do that, the first thing to do is remove Gloria. And that can’t be done with the opposition killing each other.

  48. Yuko, the Guingona being considered is TG, the son. The former vice president has begged off.

But TG knows he is just a stand by candidate.

Maganda nga kasi in the opposition now, there’s the attitude of “bigayan” for the greater good of the country.

Those who are still obssessed with themselves are either out of UNO or have joined the Gloria Arroyo. That’s good.

  49. chi chi

    joeseg,

    Here’s JV’s text just now:

Thanks! I read them. It made the sacrifice even lighter!

Villar admits split in third force

Senate President Manuel Villar admitted Friday that he and other re-electionist senators might join separate senatorial lineups for the May elections.
    …..

Villar, who had publicly declared that he will not join the administration “unity ticket”, said the group discussed San Juan Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito’s decision to withdraw from the Senate race and the inclusion of Sonia Roco in the opposition ticket.

Does it really make any different with Sonia Roco? I wonder what her resume look like to be qualified as Senator? What has she done in the past or is she just getting a free ride on the name Raul Roco? Or, does it really matter? As to my personal opinion in which I suppose I’m entitle to, Sonia is just another name, it matter not. The intent has been misplaced, the real issue has been forgotten, only to get mutineer Gloria Arroyo. And how about what really important, the people?

I’m not celebrating and pessimistic of coming May election. What I’ve seen in the Philippines politics, an inexperienced one person getting in the arena of wolves will just be eaten alive by mutineer Gloria and her dogs. Another futile cause, without hope to make a serious changes for the better. It’s a lost cause!

This must be a very tough job for UNO, to pick its line up amongst a lot of hopefuls. JVs decision to drop out from the senatorial race to make way for another candidate is called “a big sacrifice”. This is also called professionalism at its best! The next time he runs for any office, the people will remember his selflessness for the sake of the group’s cause. Admirable, indeed!
I am very dissappointed with the “Wednesday Group”. Puro mga sigurista. They are looking at the line up and they will affiliate with the one who would have more winnable candidates. I do not know if it is a good move for these four “biggies” to do this. It may erode their popularity in the end. It is like going to a party na nagpapahuli para paimportante and dating! The people are not dumb. They will remember.

Ellen, I do not know Sonia Roco. Who is she?

I read one of the comments in one of the blogs on the possibility of a few candidates to be fielded by the tiyanak in one position so that if one loses, the other wins. She is still the winner! Very cunning, indeed! In other words, this is her unity ticket concept. I hope the people will find an antidote for this. May the local leaders discern the deceptive plan of the tiyanak, if indeed this grand plan is true.

What for others may be a dream about to come true, the unselfish JV sacrificed that of his own to give way to Sonia Roco. Admirable, indeed. That may be a good PR move, but is it a strategic one? A prospective winner, JV follows Dad to accommodate in the ticket a virtual nobody whose chances are yet to be determined.

More questions come to mind. Will Sonia Roco’s inclusion benefit the coalition more than it would say, had JV chosen to stay? Is Mark Jimenez still sponsoring Sonia’s candidacy, and will he extend the same support to the whole opposition ticket, if so? Have they considered how many votes Sonia’s inclusion will translate to? Or will JV’s backing off just improve the chances of the administration laggards?

I hope Erap didn’t decide JV’s fate just because a sourgraping Tatad published for days in full page ads, which by the way was paid by Arroyo bootlicking banker Ramon Orosa, his letter condemning the emerging political dynasties in the Senate. He just got hoodwinked into believing Tatad was still the same statesman he knew. Does he think Tatad, or Gloria’s lapdogs will stop there? The next targets are the Cayetanos and the Pimentels, believe you me.

I don’t want to spoil your mood but I hope the answers to my questions would erase all doubts I have. Maybe if JV himself can tell us. I’m not a natural pessimist but I think 12-0 is fast becoming more unattainable every passing day.

Ganoon ba iyon? In other words, nadenggoy na naman si Erap just like when he did not do anything but leave Malacanang without a fight in January 2001. Ano iyan? Anyway, iyong lalaban as members of the Opposition, huwag nang magpaligoy-ligoy. Kung tatakbo sila on the United Opposition ticket, takbo na na lang. Namputsa ang dami pang tsetseburetse! I find this really unbelievably nauseating sa totoo lang. Matira ang matibay, ‘ika nga! Basta ang grupo ko determined na Opposition lang—no balimbing and trapo!!!

Tanong ko rin, “Why Sonia Roco?”

  65. But Yuko, even if I could (see I use the ‘impossible’ conditional tense), I would be an extremely “bad” Senator coz I would most likely work out ways to topple the govt, hang Gloria and her family, shoot down the plunderers and put up Mr Guillotin’s invention in the middle of every town and city in Pinas, i.e., Makati, Manila, Vigan, Lipa, Cebu, etc as monumental reminders to those who don’t toe the line – you know, set up a “benevolent” dictatorship together with the good elements of the AFP and the like-minded civilian leaders.

That would make me the most unpopular senator-elect (if ever) in the history of Filipino mankind.

    Hehehehe!

  66. Ellen: Those who are still obssessed with themselves are either out of UNO or have joined the Gloria Arroyo. That’s good.

That was why I said it was a blessing in disguise that the sourgrapes left on their own accord. I bet you, Binay must have agonized in NOT wanting to hurt these people, but still apparently, could not help offending them. Good riddance as a matter of fact!

As for JV, mahirap na kasi baka manakaw ang San Juan, which is next door to Marikina that the Fatsos claim they own!

Between JV and Sonia Roco, if I follow what bloggers say between the lines. I WILL PREFER JV. Bloggers say they are for youth, yet to master wheeling and dealing. There were establishment people who died by earthquake in that Baguio Hotel. I thought God was sending a message: that it is not right for a scheme (NGO as instrument against government shortcomings and wrong doings) to be taken over by influential, and already rich people. If I remember right Sonia was a survivor there. I must stop here lest I do dishonor again to dishonorable deads. But I maintain the Philippines –like may be no other country–remains a King Solomon’s mine for writers on the lives political criminals, dead or alive. But culture inveigles write not about those already dead.

To be a little more specific, political crimes in my mind are not those of Nixon’s burglary, nor Clinton and Jack Kennedy’s sexcapades, or Hitler’s genocide but more like of Al Capone’s trax evasion, the Mafia’s racketering and the more serious ones of lying and cheating and plunder.

  70. jay cynikho jay cynikho

to be more accurate, I am posting that again.

To be a little more precise, political crimes in my mind are not those of Nixon’s burglary, nor Clinton and Jack Kennedy’s sexcapades, or Hitler’s genocide but more like of Al Capone’s tax evasion, the Mafia’s racketering and the more serious ones of lying and cheating and plunder. This posting has nothing to do with Sonia, of course.

I, too, don’t know Sonia Roco that well. All I know about her is that she is a strong-willed intelligent woman whose mission is to continue the work of her husband Raul. Raul Roco if you recall was given a monicker “Honorary Woman” because of his bills to protect and uplift the rights of women. In one interview, Sonia indicated that education was a priority program for her. She was a teacher daw.

She seemed to be quite intelligent, quick to answer questions, goes direct to the point, speaks her mind even in politically sensitive issues. She impressed me. But I still need to know more about her.

And as we all know, Raul Roco had quite a following among the youth and the women sectors. Quite a valid reason for UNO taking Sonia in.

    Philippine Vigil,
You said(February 9th, 2007 at 1:23 am) regarding Loren that you “know first hand that she’s arrogant..” It’s more of an insecurity, actually. Tony’s twin brother, as well as Tony’s sister, never acknowledged Loren as his wife. They considered her Tony’s kabit, because his wife was still alive & they were only separated..seguro that so-called “arrogance” is just a mask..

  73. Chabeli: They considered her Tony’s kabit, because his wife was still alive & they were only separated..seguro that so-called “arrogance” is just a mask..

    *****

I doubt that it is just a mask. PV is right. She is arrogant, but who are we to judge her? In a way, kawawa rin if the family of her “husband” still think of her as a “kabit” even after the husband tried to legitimize their union by converting to Islam where a member can have 4 or more wives if he can afford to please them all equally.

Is Legarda now a Moslem, too? If not, then the marriage is invalid! Kabit pa rin siya, because I know that it is prerequisite for both the groom and the bride to be Moslem to make such union valid!!!

If that is the case, kawawa rin, ano?

  74. Chabeli, Yeah I know! Especially with Conrad almost a vegetable (don’t even know if he’s still alive).

Conrad’s wife and son are tough on Loren.

  76. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

PV, Yuko, I don’t know if Orosa was the one who took off with the PCI Bank “loot” better ask FVR. Tatad said Orosa asked for a copy of the letter as reference for his column (does he write one, Ellen?) and he gave him permission to use it. The next day, it appeared as full-page ads in the dailies. And the next days’.

If it was unauthorized, why didn’t Tatad immediately ask Orosa to stop it on the very first day? He consented because he wanted to make a big issue out of it and probably hoped he would be included in an emerging third force that never materialized. He wasn’t even invited there! Tatad’s intentions were never pure as far as that dynasty issue was concerned. It has blackmail written all over it. And Erap, the ever good guy, may have made the wrong move of sacrificing JV on Tatad’s fake motives.

Why Sonia Roco? Did she ever figure in any of the issues against Gloria? Did anyone see her marching, at the very least interviewed calling for Gloria’s ouster? What we have here could be a major Trojan Horse. Or simply a freeloader hitching a ride (with free lunch?) in the opposition campaign wagon.

Sonia, to get civil society votes? I would rather have in the ticket more vocal Civil Society figures like Black and White’s Dinky, Leah, and Enteng, the CODAL lawyers or Harry Roque, CODE NGO’s Dodo Macasaet, there are many. No need to second-guess these guys. They are staunch Gloria bashers. Leah Navarro can be a winnable candidate. She’s a household name, can represent the youth (she was Kabataang Barangay president for Makati at the same time we led Pasay’s KB Federation – that may also be included in her political “experience”) and she can mobilize many of her Forbes Park neighbors to support the opposition. Sonia Roco doesn’t have any of those. Except for the name, I don’t think a wife can inherit virtues and decorations.

Sayang talaga yung kay JV. JV, whom I thought was just another heir to the San Juan throne, was after all very deserving of respect and admiration. Rizal can now rest in peace.

Tatad had copies of his letter to Erap. I got one copy but he sent me the soft copy much later. I decided not to post it here because by that time, a lot had overtaken the issue.

I think I heard Orosa offering Tatad to have it published as an ad in newspapers.

I always thought, the best interest of the country lies on an invidividual to pursue the causes that are good for the country in general, honorably. Somehow, Ellen I’ve much mix feeling on JV’s texts to you, “country’s best interest” and “sacrifice for the sake of the country”. Rhetorically quite noble, however can you have JV to explain what is he meant by it. What country’s best interest than to rid of mutineer Gloria and what really does JV is sacrificing for pulling out of the Senatorial race? I wonder, here’s a person (JV) with the biggest opportunity to help the country, yet JV decided to pull out. I believe, JV doesn’t have what it take to be a leader which is the reason for him not to run. Or Papa told him to. Whatever, the case might be, matter not. It ain’t going to make any different now.

  87. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Does anybody here can provide the reasons why each senatorial candidates wants to be Senator? Did anybody ask them directly of what they can do to better the lives of those in poverty. I heard these names being shuffled around in this forum and being considered running for Senator, yet I haven’t heard the reasons why or these candidates have any platforms that will somehow make the different, such as providing clean air/water, cleaning up the rivers and bays, stop corruption, what they can do to stop over population, punishing squatters taking properties that don’t belong to them, protecting the sovereign rights of an individuals, traffic congestion, prosecuting mutineer Gloria and her family for subversion and election fraud, most importantly for plundering people’s money and betrayal of trust, among other things.

Really, well known names doesn’t make a better Senator. We already got them in Congress just taking up space.

Yeah, ok, once in a while others will wake up from their comfortable chair make a priviledge speech, other couldn’t take a hit and will start crying. But, when it’s about clean water/air, finding solution to over population or traffic congestion, they all have a stupildy puzzle look on their faces. Surely, they don’t have any problem whatsoever of finding banks overseas to stash their pork barrels. Such a bunch of waste!

  92. Tongue,

  94. Chabeli Chabeli

    Philippine Vigil,
Like you, I had wanted Leah Navarro to run, too.

  95. To run for the Senate, you need at least P250 million. At least. Expenses could go to as high as P450 million.

With Gloria’s group, no problem because she is poviding free helicopter, airplane to use during the campaign and some P100 million contribution.

I don’t think Leah has that money to risk in an election. If you have a bankable name like Pimentel, Aquino, Guingona, you may be able to raise funds from contributors.
Otherwise, your campaign will suffer. Tatabunan ka ng mga kampon ni Gloria.

Those are the factors UNO has to consider in choosing those who will be included in their ticket.

  96. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Does anybody here has some spare change of at least an approx P350 million, approx $7,224,000 at exchange rate of P48.45/dollar? Just imagine, 24 Senators running for Senate, not mentioning others positions in office. I just couldn’t imagine the amount of money will be spent this election when the country is obviously starving. Perhaps, enough to build thousands of houses with plumbing facilities to house those on the street and still some left over for rice and galunggong for years. Such a waste of money will be spent for the wrong reasons. Such insanity!
