Adel Tamano is UNO spokesman

Lawyer Adel Tamano has accepted the position of spokesman of the United Opposition.

tamano.jpgTamano is a partner in Kapunan Tamano Villadolid & Associates law office and assistant lecturer at the Institute of Law, Far Eastern University.

Even as the young Tamano has committed to help the UNO in the campaign for the May election, House Speaker Jose de Venecia was telling media that Tamano is in the administration senatorial ticket. How pathetic!

Looks like what Manolo hoped for has come to pass. At the rate he is going, I will definitely vote for Adel if ever he runs for the Senate in 2010.

  3. Adel Tamano is a principled man, a bright hope for the future, an antithesis to the tiyanak aka burot.

I remember the election where the last spot for the winning Senatorial lineup was so close between Nono Palmares and the eventual winner Mamintal Tamano. I was at that time a very young graduate employed at the Philippine Railway Co. in Iloilo doing payroll and my boss was Palmares Brother-in-law and he told me to get ready and pack and we were bound for senate to work for “Senator Palmares”, because we were confident, he will get the last spot after the recount. I end up here, instead of Senate. And that was the last time I heard from either Palmares or Tamano. They were both good men, as far as I knew..

‘It is all about realizing that all of us should be but instruments of the greater good.’

Lito Banayo’s Malaya column “Anguish” is about Erap’s decision to sacrifice JV’s senatorial ‘ambition’.

    ****

It was not a precipitate reaction to Kit Tatad’s overblown angst against family dynasties. It was a deliberate decision made after weeks of meditation in Tanay and an anguished meeting last Monday night between President Estrada and his son Mayor JV.

  6. Speaking of Erap, Tribune banners ‘Slay try on Erap not validated—AFP chief’.

If ever, they’re propagating this because they probably have a plot to do it themselves and blame it on the commies or whatever, afterwards, Gloria will pronounce Martial Law in order to avert public chaos.

Debilitated, nothing less than retards, NSC guys are!

“I want to enlarge the coalition, to include specially the civil society forces, of which Sonia has become a symbol,” he argued.” (A portion of Mr. Banayo’s piece)

My observation for the inclusion of Sonia Roco at UNO to accomodate the civil society was correct. Now, it’s called being unselfish and sensitive. Meron ba si permanent acting prisidinti niyan?!!!

Understanding the Philippines Politics and what happen in the last national election, when mutineer Gloria stole the election with one million dagdag/bawas, matter not who the opposition have on their ticket or the spokeperson, it will matter not. The opposition if they are relying on the new faces coming to Congress, so they can rid of mutineer Gloria, just to make sure they’ve all the resources to match mutineer Gloria’s unlimited resources. Mutineer Gloria is unbeatable, and even if her party loses on the May election, still mutineer Gloria will come out as a winner, only because of all the resources available to her, she will buy the entire Philippines, if it’s become necessary. Payoff all the Generals, Supreme Court, Congress and everything that gets in her way. Folks it’s the reality of what has became of the Philippines with mutineer Gloria stinking the house of the people. Mutineer Gloria corrupt mentality has been tested so many time in the past, and as you can see, mutineer Gloria is still illegaly occupying Malacanang, thats folks is a proof in itself. The only way to rid of mutineer Gloria is not to election process not through Congress, but through “One Million Warm Bodies” park in front of Malacanang gates, among other things. Undoubtedly, mutineer Gloria will not surrender willingly or to be out voted, not a chance. Hence, coming election is an exercise in futility with inevitable outcome. There are sure ways of ridding of mutineer Gloria, but not through election process, a total waste. Mutineer Gloria knows it too.

  10. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Vicente Sotto is a prime example of how mutineer Gloria corrupt mentality work and how she uses the money to buy people’s loyalty. Surely, it will not stop at Sotto. Who would think that this guy Sotto would sale his soul to the devil knowingly that his friend FPJ was cheated of his rightful place in history by mutineer Gloria, and died of broken heart. Have you all forgotten? Everything in the Philippines has a price, at least I believe so. With mutineer Gloria unlimited resources available to her, mutineer Gloria will come out smelling like roses after the election.

Honor, integrity and loyalty are thing of the past, the only important in the Philippines politics is the smell of money. And the saddest part, the dirty money that these crooks received instead of circulating within the Philippines to help the poor folks, has been put in more secured places outside the Philippines shores, such as Hongkong, Switzerland, San Francisco and/or Germany. Folks, that’s the biggest travesty of Philippines politics.

Any news on Josie Joc-Joc Bolate?

    Tamano turned down the offer.

    Ellen,

Can you confirm the rumor about a cat-fight at the Essensa?

  13. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

I choked on my dinner laughing. My wife did, too.

On TV, De Venecia was announcing their senate slate members. With typical De Venetian aplomb and confidence, the droopy eyed one was proudly announcing that they are now on the verge of completing their slate and that Adel Tamano may join their ticket pending further talks. And in the same news clip, seconds later, the news reporter announced that Adel Tamano had already joined the opposition…and as Spokesman yet! Hilarious…The Venetian is really losing his touch.Time to smell the roses, Joe.

Adel Tamano seems to have great potential. Young, personable and the ladies are going gaga over him…including my wife. She says he’s the type every mother would love to have as a son-in-law.

PV, he’s a Muslim. So in theory, there are 3 more slots.

  16. Hahahahahahahahah!

Well, he’s got to have plenty of money to keep them in the lifestyle hunting moms would like their daughters to have.

  17. chi chi

Hahahah, naunahan ako ni cvj! Anyway, unless Adel wants to have more than one wife, meron pa ngang 3 slots.

Seriously, I have a muslim friend, nephew of the Karim’s of Sulu, who got only one wife. I asked him about it and he replied that “kung gusto lang, it’s still a matter of choice”.

With regards to the Wednesday group of Pangilinan et al. I think it’s about time that UNO not wait for them anymore and just dump them.

Here’s an interesting story that came out in the web of The Philippine Daily Inquirer. Here’s an exerpt of the article (dated 02/09/2007) written by By Gil C. Cabacungan Jr.:

Arroyo loses cool in roundtable discussion with media

MANILA, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s infamous temper flared up once more when she abruptly ended an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer in front of a stunned audience which included three Cabinet Secretaries and an official of the International Monetary Fund.

    Please see next post- ellen

  20. Mike,

Your description made me laugh: “Parang sila mga bakla na di alam kung saan talaga sila sasali. ”

I once knew a gay military officer – toughest, one SOB and no urong sulong. His outfit was the smartest unit, and the meanest too.

Manny Pangilinan (not Mr Cuneta) of PLDT is an example of such person.

  21. chi chi

    Chabeli,

    It is “Very Gloria”!

Who could have whispered to her that familiar answer?! Si Romy o si Joey? She’s soooo pikon! Hala pikunin pa natin!

  22. cvj cvj

Chabeli, it looks like reality is Arroyo’s number one enemy.

    Chi & Cvj:
Heheh.

  24. Chi,

I witnessed the same, almost the same tantrum flare here when she was being interviewed by the Philstar correspondent who was asking tough questions particularly about extra-judicial killings.

At one point, she briskly assembled all her notes in front of her coz you could see she didn’t like it – eyes starting to squint and flashing left and right, then made a semblance of getting up but held herself back; paused, collected her wits and said, “I’m glad you asked that question!” Then rattled off.”

But the last question completely irritated her when the journalist asked her, “What about the question that was tabled in the Belgian parliament with records saying you’ve continuously ignored them and not proferred them with the slightest courtesy?”

She got up and said, “Well, I don’t know what they want” so the journalist immediately submitted a paper to her saying, “This is a copy of the minutes during a Parliamentary discussion on the issue which was submitted very officially to the Embassy but Embassy officials apparently said, they’ve been forwarded the question to Manila for reply.” She didn’t look at it but said, “I don’t know, I don’t know about that…” Hehehe!

Romulo and Bunye had bowed heads all that time.

  25. Chabeli,

Re Gloria’s “spread the wealth that way. That’s my answer to you,”

The best thing is for her and her family to stop making NAKAW!

    Old but still relevant:

    http://www.pcij.org/stories/2004/congress.html

Our latest series summarizes some of the key findings of a two-year-study conducted by the PCIJ on Philippine legislatures which are published in an upcoming book called, The Rulemakers: How the Wealthy and Well-Born Dominate Congress.

The first part of the series deals with the composition of the legislature. We found that 18 years after the fall of Marcos, Congress has not become a more representative institution. Today?s legislators are richer now than ever before. While poverty levels since 1986 have remained at roughly between 30 to 40 percent of the population, lawmakers have become wealthier.

In 1992, the average net worth of congressmen was P8 million. By 2001, it was P28 million. In the Senate, the average net worth increased from P33 million in 1998 to P59 million in 2001. A quarter of all senators today have a net worth of above P100 million.

Today’s legislators are also older and better educated and tend to stay in office longer than their predecessors. Moreover, the great majority of lawmakers come from political families. In the House of Representatives, two in every three members come from political families.

Civil liberties are being abused by the Arroyo government. Jose De Venecia and his party of thieves supported the abuse of power by fake president Gloria Arroyo. Liberal democracy? Proclamation No. 1017, Executive Order No. 464 and CPR. Free elections?? Hello Garci! Dag-dag-bawas and fake COC’s. Free Press?? Multiple libel suits by Fatso Arroyo against journalists and intimidation and killing of journalists and extra-judicial killings of dissenters. Free Markets?? Smuggling, sell-out of the national patrimony to the foreigners. Free environment?? Stinky and polluted Pasig River and deforestation. It’s all the opposite from their battlecry.

    2)Allan Cayetano
    3)Adel Tamano
    4)Chiz Escudero
5)Ping Lacson——-Pechay is No.5 on the bottom list on the senatorial candidates.

  72. Kaya sinong may sabing walang maipapalit kay Mrs. Burot. There are a lot many promising young turks over there as a matter of fact. Iyon iba nga lang walang mga connections and do not have parents like Tamano’s mother who can talk to people to include their son in their ticket.

Ang thank God, he has a real heart for his country!

I doubt if he is taking a big risk joining the Opposition. On the contrary, it will endear himself to the masa that is voting for the Opposition huwag lang nga gutomin ng husto enough for them to join for the devil who has money to tide them over from their hunger.

Isasama namin siya in the list of Opposition bets for the Senate!

  73. Thanks for the link, Ellen. Saw the pictures all. May isa pa palang puedeng ipasok sa Senate slate ng Opposition. I don’t know this Darlene Custodio but she looks fiery. Kaya lang, I think people at the Opposition knows she is more needed in Congress. Kailangan kasi may mga “siga” din doon even when they are in the minority.

Well, we’re still waiting for the complete list of UNO candidates. Mukhang talagang puspusan ang sifting of nominees, but I know they will come up with something really good, walang labis, walang kulang!

    Ellen,

Thanks so much for Adel’s photo. Muy guapo y macho! He’s still young yet with already impressive credentials.

  75. Huwag na muna nating guluhin si JV. He has made up his mind. Yehey!

Marami pa namang mapapagpilian. As for Sonia Roco, I think the fact that Roco’s group is still there, baka naman makatulong sila to strengthen the opposition force with her around. Whatever that is!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

Sorry but allow me to post this here. There is no link on website that’s why but I think it is important to published here and other fora I am in. Thanks:

No way, young voters tell trapos and political butterflies

Voters from AKBAYAN Youth today expressed disgust over the political circus taking place as politicians scramble to place themselves in winnable senatorial slates. As it launched its “Boto Ko, Anti-trapo!” campaign, young voters were reminded to be vigilant and observe who among the self-proclaimed senatorial candidates should be avoided at all cost.

The group said that it is sickened by the horse-trading and indecent maneuverings of politicians from different colors just to get a position in a slate that they deem would deliver the much-needed resources for their campaign. AKBAYAN Youth lamented that “from the Opposition to the Administration and even the so-called ‘Third Force’, the basis of unity if money, machinery, and fame, not platform or concrete programs.”

The group also launched the “Vote-O-Meter”, a political barometer of candidates based on their position on concrete issues to guide young voters in determining who’s trapo and who’s not. The “Vote-O-Meter” seeks to help young voters to veer away from personality-oriented politics and categorizes candidates that have no concrete platform, who are corrupt, and who uses violence and fraud to win elections as trapos and thus should not be voted.

  79. Ellen: Manolo Quezon has written about the courting that Malacañang waged (though Lupita Kashiwahara and Paul Aquino) to get Adel to their side. In vain.

Now I understand why Glueria is having a lot of temper tantrums, kasi these guys will be her migraine once elected to the Senate. Compared with her candidates, these guys are youthful, well-educated and have the necessary experience as law makers! They are very promising!

I read Adel Tamano’s background provided above, academically quite impressive. However, still hoping to see an individual candidate that has done at least something to better the lives of those in poverty, that has fought corruption, did something to clean the environment, addressed the traffic congestion, provided solution for the Pilipinos leaving the country and providing employment opportunities within the country in order to halt the breaking up of families. And one of my greatest concerned, of who can deliver fair justice to all. We don’t need guapo in congress, but real person with good intention to combat all the things that’s wrong about the Philippines. Adel has yet to be convincing that he can do the job. Lets not count the chicken yet before it hatch.

  82. Adel is not running this election. In the future, probably. This early he is fighting for the rule of law through his practice, writings and advocacy.

  83. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Ang Wednesday group ay walang panindigan. Bakla, balimbing, walang bayag at walang prinsipio. Pansariling interest ang una bago ang bayan. Dapat i-junk sila kahit nasa UNO o administrasyon.

  84. chi chi

As UNO spokesman, Adel will have the chance to expand his association with people. It will be easier for him in the future, if he’ll decide to give Senate a try. Also for Gilbert Remulla, I hope he’ll try next election.

    Chabeli,

It seems that Gilbert is not yet interested to run for a Senate seat. Sayang, hindi ko s’ya maiboboto ngayon. 🙂

  85. artsee artsee

Profile: Adel Tamano, A great and excellent Philippine leader in the making.(?)

JDV may have thought that if he pre-empts Adel Tamano by announcing that he is an admin candidate for senator, the later will just agree to it. It’s just too bad; the guy has a lot of class, guts and principles. If reports are to be believed that he was being offered tons of material things just to join the Pidal slate for the senate, and at the same time pressured by his mother to do the same thing and still refused it, that’s really something that will give people an insight what the future holds for this young man in Philippine politics. It is a sign of independence and wise decision making. He earned and I give my full respect to him. At his very young age, he is fully aware of what is happening around, he knew that under the present and bogus dispensation, everything seems to be wrong, and he doesn’t want to be a part or to be a conspirator in the perpetuation of deceptions and evil schemes of the devil woman and her band of thieves. He was given a choice and he chose to stand by his beliefs and principles over material things, and even over the wishes of his mother. That shows character and if he can maintain, continue and go on from here, we maybe looking at someone who will be one of the greatest leaders ever produced in this country. He is a leader in the making.

  87. florry florry

    artsee,

sana si Darlene Antonino ng General Santos City, kunin ng UNO to counter Boy Nograles who claims to represent Southern Mindanao (2nd district, Davao City).

historically, ang dayaan sa halalan sentro lagi sa Mindanao. if Koko represents Northern Mindanao, being a son of Cagayan de Oro City; he is expected to make counter moves to arrest impending widespread hocus-pocus in Lanao Sur and Norte, and Zambo Sur/ Norte.

Darlene’s family and supporters influence meanwhile, reaches far and wide in Maguindanao, Sarangani and Cotabato provinces.

If observers continue to wonder why Enrile still kept on winning those elections, it is because of the votes from these areas ala Hello Garci. Locals, although familiar with vote shaving/padding, do not care much. Realizing that every after elections, national politicians never ever bothered to personally thank them, lalo na ang pagtupad sa mga PANGAKO.

But this perennial walang paki-alam attitude may soon come to an end, if Darlene enters the foray.

Darlene’s family roots are from Luzon, but she rooted herself in local politics. If I remember it right, she can speak Ilonggo, Cebuano and maybe a sparse of Maguindanaon. She is well known in Davao provinces– Davao City, Davao del Norte/ Sur, Oriental, and Samal as well.

i’ll wager a bet, she will win hands-on against Nograles in selling their teammates to local electorate.

the Maguindanaons (being one of the 3 main local Muslim groups;the Tausugs of Zambo and Sulu, and Maranaos of Lanao) since culturally less problematic in resolving conflicts with the Tausugs; and since Adel Tamano is a Maranao, maybe for the first time in senatorial elections, consensus will be forged and whole of Mindanao will turn its back on the Palace illegal occupants.

importantly, Darlene proved herself in the past that she can work with NGO’s, and cause-oriented groups. if she is in, then UNO can count on the women votes, together with Loren and Sonia Roco.

btw, why can’t UNO give the other slot to Teddy Casino of Bayan Muna to complete the picture? the latter’s group are loyal campaigners and CANNOT be bought with money, nor terrorized with guns… my two cents.

  92. zenzennai zenzennai

Koko, is of course, Koko Pimentel…

You said that “It seems that Gilbert is not yet interested to run for a Senate seat. Sayang, hindi ko s’ya maiboboto ngayon.” Oo nga..

In the meantime, the opposition must win 60 Congressional seats for victory. In the meantime, here’s a partial list of those in Congress who voted to impeach Gloria (I only included the names of those who can run again, as there are those who are already 3-termers:

    3-Mario “Mayong” Joyo Aguja (PL-AKBAYAN)

  102. Chabeli Chabeli

    Chi,
We can only try & do what we can-however small-to convince others to vote for the candidates who will impeach Gloria. It’s worth a shot.

  103. chi chi

    Chabeli,

What’s your hunch why husband and wife team of Manny and Cynthia wanted to see Erap again?! Ang labo, no?!

  104. Chabeli Chabeli

    Chi,

I think Manny is concerned about his seat as Senate President & needs Erap’s help..

Here’s an interesting story from GMANews.TV:

The United Opposition (UNO) has finally completed its 12-man senatorial slate, with Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. joining the party as an “adopted” candidate, sources privy to the ongoing talks between former President Joseph Estrada’s camp and the Wednesday Group told GMANews.TV Saturday.

“Yes, Senator Villar has joined the opposition as an adopted candidate. He will remain as an independent candidate but he will have some sort of a tactical alliance with UNO,” said a lawmaker privy to the negotiation who requested anonymity.

Another source, also a lawmaker, told GMANews.TV that three other senatorial bets have either joined or invited by the opposition. They are: Navy Lieutenant Antonio Trillanes, former senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani and Bohol Rep. Teofisto Guingona III.

The source, a close friend of the congressman, said Guingona “has not yet made up his mind” over UNO’s invitation. The source said Akbayan Rep. Loretta Ann Rosales would also be considered by UNO if Guingona backs out.

Reports are also rife that the two other Wednesday’s Groups’ senators Joker Arroyo and Ralph Recto would be “adopted” by the administration’s unity ticket while Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangalinan will remain as an independent candidate.

A third source said Joker is expected to swear in before President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino on Monday.

The source also claimed that it was Recto who conceived the idea of the group “forging tactical alliance with the parties while remaining independent.”

My hunch is that there were no solid takers for the Wednesday Group kaya mga “Independent” nalang sila.

  105. Chabeli Chabeli

According to The Philippine Star’s web, “Presidential Political Adviser Gabriel Claudio confirmed yesterday that Arroyo and Recto had moved over to the administration ticket.”

How would Gabby Claudio say that the Arroyo & Recto “had moved” ? Move from were ? Can’t be from UNO. They were never w/ the Oppostion diba ?

Ang naiwanan si Mr. “Noted”. Sabi ng report, “The sources, however, failed to mention the position taken by Senate Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan, the fourth member of the group. He said that “Depending on the final decision, most likely, I will run under the Liberal Party-Nacionalista Party coalition, but neither administration nor opposition,” Pangilinan told The STAR yesterday.

  107. PV, haven’t seen Lu lately.

Zenzennai, hayaan na muna natin si Darlene in the congressional level. The opposition needs her in the Lower House.

  108. zenzennai zenzennai

    Chabeli:

if UNO intends to consider Etta Rosales of Akbayan for a slot; I would rather that they choose Darlene Antonino of NPC, or Risa Hontiveros, also from Akbayan, or Teddy Casino from Bayan Muna. that way, UNO would have kept its promise to present a solid slate comprising of younger and newer faces.

Letty Shahani is also being considered? Duh (as Tongue would have it).

    Ellen:

oo nga, Darlene could also be effective in the Lower House, as she is anywhere. naisip ko lang, save for Koko Pimentel, UNO is giving too much Luzon- based politicos undeserved attention. that would be a disaster later, when campaigning formally starts.

  109. chi chi

    Thanks, Chabeli.

I bet their standings in the next survey will be affected, pababa!
    I hate this group!

  110. Yup, bakit nga hindi si Risa Hontiveros? I like this Congresswoman. Maganda na palaban pa! On the other hand, kapag nawala naman si Risa sa Congress, patay na naman ang impeachment unless they can manage to have all the trapos out this May.

No, no, not Shahani! Iyan ang alam kong may control ng deployment ng OFW to Taiwan with an ex-Congressman from the Mt. Province. No more pimping of Filipinos overseas please!

I am for the inclusion of the Bayan Muna guy in the UNO Senatorial slate para talagang United Opposition. Don’t believe the Burot’s propaganda. There is nothing sourly in the UNO. Those who left are mere sourgrapes. And good riddance!

BTW, we have a Coalition of Filipino Organizations in Japan, and we are dividing our groups to represent Bayan Muna, Akbayan and Gabriela, which is joining up with Migrante.

  111. Chi, All those overseas:

You can vote for the partylist reps. Better limit your choices to the real palaban like Akbayan, Bayan Muna and Gabriela.

Over in Japan, my group members are making sure they will be represented by the three partylists above in Congress kaya ipapanalo nila sila, God willing!
