Its good that the opposition now has more leeway with their selection. Trillanes is a welcome sight in the opposition’s ranks.

With regards the line up, like you I’m not sold on everyone and have not wavered, i.e., have got 4 or 5 on my list of “electables”:
LACSON & CAYETANO followed by PIMENTEL, LEGARDA & AQUINO (hopefully, the latter would show a tougher mettle if and when he is elected.)
I do hope all of them will not only have the physical courage to confront and battle with Gloria and her henchmen but also have the MORAL COURAGE to take the battle beyond mere words.

Third on equal footing are Panfilo Lacson and Benigno Aquino III. I was not keen on Roco, but for the sake of helping the UNO win, my group will support Sonia Roco, and much as I personally do not like the balimbings, trapos and all, my group will support Osmena, Coseteng, Legarda, Pangilinan and Villar but you bet your bottom dollar, I will not be kind to them in words and in deed if they prove to be a disappointment unless of course they exert double effort to have the Bansot removed before the end of this year!!!

Protocol in the military is one of the first essential steps towards discipline. If we waylay that, we waylay the very changes we want to institute in the military, i.e., throw away the bath with the baby in it.
In a working democracy, the military is the last component to break away from the Republic. But when that democracy is not completely working, the observance of military protocol is one of those elements that keeps the nation from completely disintegrating; it is the recognition of military protocol by the troops that will help a nation get back on its feet.
We may be disillusioned by the leadership of the AFP today, we may feel outraged by the likes of Esperon but we must not thrash the remaining fibers of military dignity, i.e., “military protocol” because if we do so, there will be little hope for the Republic and its people to aspire for democracy.

Just read an interesting article by Raymond Africa in Malaya’s web (02/12/2007 issue). It says that “CHIEF Supt. Nicasio J. Radovan Jr., Southern Tagalog police” DOUBTS “the alleged kidnap try on Philippine Tourism Authority general manager Robert Dean Barbers on Saturday.” Chief Supt. “Radovan, in a phone interview, said based on the report of Batangas chief of police Senior Supt. Edmund Zaide, it appeared that the incident was triggered by a minor traffic altercation between Barbers and Airman 2nd Class Niño Virtusio.” The Chief had also said that “Sa ngayon, isinasantabi muna natin ang kidnap angle” because “..parang may new twist dito na parang ang lumalabas na ang pinag-ugatan ng insidente ay nagka-gitgitan sila ng sasakyan and allegedly bumaba raw itong si Secretary Barbers at sinapak itong si A2C Virtusio”. The incident apparently “..caught the attention of PO1 June Virtusio, the brother of A2C Virtusio, as it happened in front of his house. When PO1 Virtusio was about to approach the vehicles, Barbers ran and radioed the Batangas provincial police to report the incident. Earlier reports said Barbers, his wife and their three children were heading to Mabini in Batangas for a weekend vacation when armed men in a Ford Lynx blocked their path along San Jose (not Bauan, according to Radovan) in Batangas.”

I have read some comments from columnists in the newspapers who say that the Opposition has no rallying figure, unlike the Administrations’ candidates-their rallying point is Gloria.
From my point of view, the rallying figure of the Grand Coalition or UNO is the Filipino people. It can’t get any better than that !
We are all HOPEFUL that those in the Opposition will indeed rally behind the people of the Republic of the Philipines. Certainly, it is better than rallying behind one person called La Gloria. She does not bring hope. On the contrary, she is hopeless !

If the goal is to wipe out the “united administration” slate, why not vote straight UNO, except for one that goes by the name kiko cuneta. The inference that Singson’s undesirability is because he is from Ilocos Sur or Ilocano is unkind. There are devils scattered all over the archipelago.
Calling for the military to apply instant justice on Singson is an imitation of Ate Glue methods (hinted in the Melo Report?). So is the suggestion to ambush Singson”s campaign, which smacks of the unresolved 2004 issue of lying, stealing and cheating.
My inclination to favor Alan Cayeteno stems from his wit and brilliance exhibited in Congressional debates. And I don’t demerit his status in a political dynasty. Oligarchies at times are benefactors.

Iran’s defiance of the UN Security Council ultimatum about backing down on nuclear enrichment has prompted a second U.S. aircraft carrier (USS Stennix) to join the first (USS Eisenhower), 5th Fleet flagship safeguarding free passage of tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Any miscalculation by the Iranians or the Americans could end in a disaster like the shooting down of an Iranian airliner in the Gulf War.
Even more serious is the pending, maybe imminent, approval by the Pentagon to provide Israeli warplanes a corridor through Iraqi airspace so they can attack the Iranian nuclear sites, similar to a daredevil raid they made at Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981. Israel takes the Iranian threat of wiping Israel off the face of the earth, a feat possible with nuclear weapons.
The conflict could trigger another supermaid and simplemaid evacuation, spooked into scurrying home even if OWWA were bankrupt, from Israel and Lebanon. If the conflict escalates into a high intensity affair, OFW remittances could be affected and Ate Glue’s vaunted economic boom will bust.
