The difference between Trillanes and Zubiri

The confrontation between Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Miguel Zubiri at the Senate floor last week refreshed the public’s mind of relevant issues which have been relegated to the sidelines by more horrifying reports like the murder of Korean businessman Ick-joo Jee by police officers inside Camp Crame just a few meters away from the office of Police Chief Ronald de la Rosa.

This is not the first time that Trillanes and Zubiri clashed. Way back in 2007, when Zubiri edged out Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III from the winning circle of senatorial candidates with manufactured votes from Maguindanao, Trillanes, who won while in detention, said “I believe Congressman Zubiri knows deep in his heart that he benefited from cheating. If he is decent enough, he wouldn’t accept victory in the Senate race because that is not something you want your kids to emulate.”

Zubiri called Trillanes “a loose cannon” and “immature” and threatened to sue the Navy officer -turned rebel-turned- senator.

Zubiri occupied the Senate seat that was not his for four years before he gave it up after Pimentel’s election protest prospered.

Untouchable?
Bakit ba hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa na-isampa ang kasong electoral sabotage laban kay dating Commission on Election chairman Benjamin Abalos na inirekomenda ng joint panel ng Department of Justice at Comelec?

Ito rin ang tanong ni Sen.Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III noong Biyernes.

From Inquirer:
Comelec Chair Sixto Brillantes Jr. said the case against Abalos and other co-respondents of Arroyo would be filed next week, after Comelec lawyers are able to untangle some “procedural problems.”

“There is some sort of complication, but it is just procedural. But we are definitely filing against Abalos,” he said.

Gloria Arroyo arrested for the unbailable crime of electoral sabotage

Former President Gloria Arroyo is now under arrest for the unbailable crime of electoral sabotage.

The warrant of arrest, issued by Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court, was served at 6:30 p.m. Friday by members of the Philippine National Police seven hours after the Commission on Elections filed electoral sabotage charges in connection with the 2007 elections against Arroyo, former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. and former Comelec election supervisor Lintang Bedol before the Pasay City RTC.

SC stands firm on TRO vs de Lima’s Watch List Order but it could be rendered moot and academic if Pasay RTC Judge issues warrant of arrest and hold departure order on Arroyo.

The lawyer of the Commission on Elections on Friday filed electoral sabotage charges against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. and former Comelec election supervisor Lintang Bedol before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.

Sen. Francis Escudero said once the judge issues a warrant of arrest all watchlist order and hold departure order in a separate on DOJ Memo circular 41 become moot and academic. Arroyo can be arrested. Electoral sabotage is non-bailable.

Photo from Yuko Takei's FB wall.

Right charge, wrong election

Unas: alleged participant in Maguindanao massacre; state witness vs Gloria Arroyo in election sabotage

Amid allegations he benefited from the supposed cheating in the 2007 elections, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri yesterday announced his resignation, a move seen by colleagues and even his opponents as an act of statesmanship.

“Without admitting any fault and with my vehement denial of the alleged electoral fraud hurled against me, I am submitting my resignation as a duly elected senator of the Republic of the Philippines in the election for which I am falsely accused without mercy and compassion,” Zubiri said in an emotional privilege speech.

Aquilino “Koko “ Pimentel III I: I commend him for the rare act of resigning but na-disappoint lang ako na parang may denial pa siya na nagkaroon ng dayaan sa Maguindanao which was the reason why he got proclaimed in the first place. Hindi po baseless and unfounded ang charges of election fraud in Maguindanao. Proven na po iyon.”

“I am resigning, not because I am exhausted from the demands of my calling as a legislator. . I am resigning, not because I wish to evade the decision of the Senate Electoral Tribunal. Handa kong tanggapin ang anumang hatol mula sa nasabing hukuman,” he said.

After “Hello” from Bedol, will it be “Hello Garci”?

It was so ludicrous that you would think it was a Michael V skit.

Yesterday, at the start of the media presentation of Lintang Bedol at the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila, Chairman Sixto Brillantes told the magician election supervisor of Maguindanao, ” O baka gusto mo mag-hello.”

Bedol, wearing dark glasses and a bullet-proof vest, looked so relaxed despite the charge of contempt that was slapped on him for his four-year disappearance when he was asked to produce some documents related to the 2007 elections.

Bedol, waving to the reporters, said, “Hello, kumusta kayo lahat.”

It was bizarre.

I don’t think he realized his crime when he tampered the results of the 2004 elections subverting the people’s choice of their leaders thereby allowing a fake president to remain in power for six more years.
