Arroyo may attend rally at her own risk:bishops

ORGANIZERS of Sunday’s prayer rally at the Quirino Grandstand yesterday said President Arroyo and her administration allies can come to the gathering but they will not be answerable for the public’s reaction to their presence.

Read this in Malaya.Click here.

Much as the organizers stress that tomorrow’s rally is “apolitical”, the assembly of thousands opposed to Gloria Arroyo and her allies in the House of Representatives is a forceful political statement.

A mammoth crowd would underscore the political isolation of Gloria Arroyo.

Monsignor Juanito Figura, secretary-general, of the Catholic Bishop Conference of teh Philippines said the church called the rally because of “an escalating pattern [and] the church could not just take this sitting down.”

“The church could not just play blind, play deaf, play mute to the sufferings that these issues have brought out,” he said.

Arroyo has tried to derail the rally by empty gestures of reconciliation and the military raised the Communist bogey but the bishops remain determined to push through with the prayer rally which was precipitated by the railroading by the House of Representatives of an unconstitutional Constituent Assembly without the participation of the Senate.

Jolted by the intensity of the people’s outrage the majority in the House of Representatives led by Speaker Jose de Venecia has since “archived” their resolution and Gloria Arroyo has announced that she is abandoning Cha-Cha as of now.

Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, head of the influential Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines called on the people to remain vigilant even if the Lord has answered their prayers on Con-Ass. The Luneta rally he said is an occasion for thanksgiving.

“The convergence of so many institutions and groups — with the good of the country in their hearts — is a miracle of grace,” Lagdameo said in a statement. “It is a religious response to a political situation. Our government needs to be prayed for.”

If GMA is will attend the rally on Sunday, let her go on stage and be allowed to speak.

Then, as I posted in a separate thread, it’s time for Col. Varilla to make true his threat to arrest politicians who will be on stage.

Col. Varilla may just do that!

Sabi Airforce: No Guts No Glory!
Sabi Marines: No Retreat No Surrender!
Sabi Army: No Pain, No Gain!
Sabi ng Security Guards: No I.D. No Entry!
Sabi ng Anti ChaCha: No to JDV No to GMA!

  3. I would rather she doesn’t. This evil woman should better stay at the palace by the murky and wait for angry crowd to pull her by the hair out of the palace so she can no longer insist on changing the Constitution that she actually has not given time for Filipinos to see if it works for them or not.

She has actually rendered the 1987 Constitution useless from the moment she grabbed power from the duly elected President of the Philippine Republic, Joseph Estrada.

If the Philippines seems cursed, it is because it has been led by unrighteous people who have not had the welfare and interest of their country and people in their minds.

Otherwise, why would they worry for example about being dumped by the Americans if they don’t free a proven criminal? If that is not stupidity, what is?

The rally on Sunday should be held sacred regardless of whether or not the people are moved by hatred for these people who have made their lives as miserable as it is. The presence of the Great Switik there will defeat the purpose of bringing the hearts of the people back to God so they can have faith not even in God but also in their own selves so that they can be courageous enough in their resolve to have the Great Switik sent to jail where she belongs together with her husband, and even children who may be found culpable of defying the laws for their own personal aggrandizement.

God willing, it will be solemn occasion for Filipinos now to pledge their allegiance to God, country and people.

I say “Mabuhay” to all who are joining the rally, with the exemption of the Great Switik, et al, who are the reason for why these rallies are being now held.

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

Let her attend, why not. But as soon as she got to the stage, people should start leaving the rally, make it a total embarrasment for her. No violence, just leave the place calmly. Ang saya-saya, di ba?

  5. npongco npongco

Knowing how thick skinned this Gloria is and she has shown this many times in the past, she might attend the rally. But my guess is different…Malacanang might come up with rallies of their own to counter the CBCP led rally on Sunday. Once again, the “Hakot” system can be utlizied using tax payers’ money. For fear of being criticized or pre-emptying their move, Malacanang could have kept this matter then everyone would be surprised placards bearing paid people praising Gloria. Manila Mayor Atienza could do this so is MMDA Chairman Fernando. They have all the resources to do this.

    1. Ang buhay ay parang bato, it’s hard.
    (Sa totoo lang)
    2. When all else fails, follow instructions.
    3. Birds of the same feather make a good feather duster.
    6. When it rains…it floods – especially in Manila.
    8. Matalino man daw ang matsing, matsing pa rin.
(Parang si GMA at JDV ang pinatatamaan nito a)
Wait for part 2)
    10. If you can’t beat them, shoot them.
Col. Varilla, magpakahinahon ka)

Sorry, should read: “…system can be utilized.” Likewise, I doubt if Mike Velarde would show up. As of this writing, he and GMA might be negotiating something only Malacanang and El Shaddai know. Notice Manalo’s INC is silent after that much reported visit to Malacanang. In fairness to INC, they don’t normally participate in rallies and activities like that especially on a Sunday when they have to attend worship services. Unlike other religious groups and Charismatic movement wherein they can hold services anywhere even in a public place like Luneta, INC strictly hold theirs inside their chapels. This Sunday the 17th is also their so called “Annual Thanksgiving”. It is on this day when members bring their offerings that were set aside the whole year.

Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Gen. Reynaldo Berroya threatens to apprehend COLUROM vehicles carrying anti-charter change rallyists to Luneta prayer-rally. I think he got NO BALLS to arrest the queen of all coluroms-FAKE President Gloria Arroyo if she intends to attend the Sunday rally. The CBCP acknowledged it could no ignore the escalating problems facing the country and the questionable legitimacy of President Gloria.

The PNP will arrest the movie stars if they go onstage. The PNP will arrest the politicians if they go on onstage. The PNP will arrest anyone who utters anything against Gloria and the government.

The PNP’s logic goes: “This is a Prayer Rally so what you can only do is Pray!”

What a bunch of NINCOMPOOPS! They should read the Bible – both old and new testaments. Don’t they know that when children of God pray they can tell and ask God for ANYTHING!
No man can censor prayer, thank you! And anybody, actors and politicians, has the right to pray any place they want and in any manner they want, and THEY CAN SAY ANYTHING, in prayer!

  10. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Let the PNP arrest COLUROM PRESIDENT GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO.

The question on whether Glueria is attending the rally on Sunday is this: WILL SHE (DARE) or WON’T SHE ?

  14. chi chi

    pandawan,

This NO, NO, NO policy of PNP under the direction of the commander-in-thief only proves that even the people are given permit to use the Luneta space for rally only after making them inferior to Pagcor, the same evils continue to rape the Constitution by violating the Bill of Rights enshrined in the very heart of it.

There is actually no freedom in the Philippines! Glueria curtails the individual rights which are the very foundation of a free nation! Hindi pwedeng magsalita, sabi ng Hitlera!

I’ll be very sorry if Mike Velarde and Erdie Manalo gave in again to the wishes of the bogus president. I don’t hear from these supposed conscientious leaders anymore.

    Noel,

If Glueria’s right and left hands will arrest Cory and Susan, that’ll make it a 100% assurance of the bogus president’s downfall to the abyss of hell!

  18. npongco npongco

Question is, will either one go up stage? Or will both go up stage? Cory claimed to be a brave woman by fighting the alleged late dictator. Susan was also brave confronting GMA at the height of Garci tape scandal. I now dare them to go on stage even if they don’t speak !

  19. chi chi

I wish they speak. Let’s see if the bogus president will order their arrest!

  20. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Wrong question. The rally organizer, Tita De Villa has said that only those concelebrating the mass will be allowed onstage. The question should then be “will they be called onstage?”

I will only wait to see one person on that stage, Gloria herself. Then let’s see how hell breaks loose!

  21. vic vic

If Gloria attends the rally then there will be thousands of undercover security people mingling in the crowd intended as a prayer rally, a recipe for a provocation that could either result in her downfall or could be an excuse for her to again declare the Natioal Emergency..with her brain churning like an overheated locomotive engine, you can’t just figure what’s her next move. But I believe she won’t be there, lest she’ll be gambling, not only for her own personal security but for the country’s.

  22. bayonic bayonic

will Glueria attend the prayer rally ?

no. she will be rushed to St. Luke’s feigning illness and will require a medical airlift to another country with no extradition treaty with the Philippines.

  23. Spartan Spartan

He even went to the extent of “warning the parents” of catholic school students, to be aware if any of these schools would “force” their children to attend the said “gathering”, because it “would be unsafe” for the students. BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!! This norberto is one person in gloria’s gang that can really have a “career in stand-up comic”, just look at his “Joker like face”…the only problem is he’s holding such a “strong and vital” position in our country that for me “he’s one dangerous man”, he’s as villainous and dangerous as his comic-fictional counterpart character…the Joker nemesis of Batman. 😉

  24. chi chi

Someone please help me out here. Why Thanksgiving Prayer rally?

The threat to our Constitution is very much alive! The people are not free. The liar, cheater and corrupt Glueria continues to threaten the citizenry. What is there to
    thank for?

  25. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Come to think of it, yes, Mike Velarde has been a bit quiet all of a sudden. Strange. Wasn’t he the first one to call for this rally? Does anybody know if he’s really attending?

  26. This ‘administration’ are in PANIC mode and by giving an ultimatum that if the speakers are movi personalities or politicians that they will be arrested at best they have a 50-50 chance of that happening. Lets say Cory & Susan take to the stage; would they stand there silent, I don’t think so.
Any attempt by the PNP to arrest Cory & Susan would be the spark to ignite the collapse of the ‘administration’, and all because the PNP are not professional enough to have a game plan and their decisions are not independent of the ‘administration’ let alone there not being a ‘law’ to cover their action of arrest.
I don’t think the PNP has the balls to take action.

  29. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

“Our government needs to be prayed for.” Amen! We, Pilipinos, it seems always resort to praying for everything as part of our culture, yet the prayers seems not working nor being answered. I wonder, how long can we keep this up, the praying business? Obviously the praying is not getting a better result since we’re still a third world country, poverty increasing with alarming rate, corruption and political killing has become an acceptable standard. And noticebly Malacanang is being used for illegal purposes by the illegitimate occupants. Now, a called by CBCP for large group prayer rally in Luneta. I guess, the houses of the lord are not good enough, so now the CBCP is bringing it to Luneta as a sacred location. Ain’t amazing!

Could it be, we don’t pray hard enough or the power above be thinking that we are always asking for too much instead of earning them through our own initiative, the hard work. CBCP wants the Pilipinos to gather in Luneta to pray, and bogus Gloria might even join the prayers. Really, something to witness, thousands of Pilipinos on their knees praying in public with illegitimate Gloria. They just might sell tickets so bogus Gloria can make money on this praying business. I’m sure there is money to be made when it come to saving souls.

Does anybody here can tell me what’s this praying is all about? I kinda lost and very confused with this praying bit. What is the very objective of this so called for public praying? Is it to rid of bogus Gloria or because a protest against the railroading of Con-Ass? Or, is it, as Pilipinos, we are into praying?

Why do we need to pray if the intent is to oust bogus Gloria? It doesn’t make any sense!

  30. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Prayer rally in Luneta? Another one of the bad joke being played to the people. If a person wants to pray, why even go to all the trouble and travel to Luneta. The person can easily do it at home, I suppose. Now, if the people wants to oust bogus Gloria why not go directly to Malacanang gates instead.

  31. parasabayan parasabayan

I had been reading all the news lately and it is very interesting to see the differences of how the rally on Sunday is shaping up. Malaya and Tribune say something different from what ABS-CBN The Inquirer say. It looks like there is one common ground, that the Sunday Rally is ending up as a Thanksgiving rally. How did that happen? Did
Glue use the people’s money again to give the “aguinaldo” to the churches to do the trick again? Remember that we are not out of the woods yet. This rally will be a gauge for the Tiyanak’s lapdogs to continue with the CON-ASS or CON-CON. That was just frozen, remember? So if we send the message to tiyanak that we are thanking the Lord for her changing the tune on the Charter Change issue, we have to think again because this evil woman is just doing everything to water down the people’s anger. I DO NOT THINK SHE IS SINCERE IN WANTING TO JOIN THE RALLY! SHE DOES NOT HAVE ANY COMPASSION, SINCERITY AND HONESTY! SHE IS A SCHEMING DEVIL! ITULOY NATIN ANG PROTESTA LABAN SA TIYANAK. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY TIYANAK. SHE WILL NEVER CHANGE! SHE WILL ALWAYS TRY TO CON EVERYBODY SO SHE AND HER LAPDOGS WILL
BE IN POWER UNTIL THE FILIPINOS ARE SUCKED DRY!!!

  32. npongco npongco

Of course Toney you know that’s just an excuse. Prayer rally in Luneta. Since God is everywhere, we can pray to him anywhere. This same trick was used to Marcos and Erap. The late Cardinal Sin was very good at this. In his time, his sermons were full of political language. He didn’t care attacking directly the ones he wanted to attack.
His style was emulated by many priests until this day. The Bishops are just following Sin’s style. Church groups are indeed powerful groups. For centuries, they always invoke God’s name. And who would dare question and go against these so called Servants of God? Dr. Jose Rizal went against them and was executed. Anyway, I don’t give a damn as long as this Gloria is finally ousted. They could use the same trick they used in ousting Marcos and Erap. I don’t care!

  33. npongco npongco

Parasabayan: Whatever name the organizers give to Sunday’s rally is not a big deal. They can call it Thanksgiving or anything they like. They can thank God for giving the participants to gather together as a show of unity against the evils in Malacanang. They can thank God for anything under the sun. On the part of INC, it’s actually their day of Thanksgiving. They call it “Annual Thanksgiving” or “Pasasalamat” in Tagalog. On this day, faithful INC members attend special worship services at their respective locales/chapels. They bring with them their monetary offerings they have set aside for the entire year beginning January. It’s a very important occasion for the INC members that they will not miss. Perhaps the Catholic Church or CBCP adopted this term “Thanksgiving” to coincide with INC’s own activity.

npongco: I suppose, we just have to wait till Monday and see if the Sunday prayer rally with the Bishops does the job in Luneta. Something we have hoped for anyway. But, I think, such silly game for grown up! I guess in the Philippines anything is possible. Meanwhile, I won’t lose sleep on it nor I’ll hold my breath. I still say, bogus Gloria did it once again, outsmarted the people including the CBCP. Prayer rally in Luneta eh! Why not have the “Tawag ng Tanghalan.” It might have the possibility of attracting more people. Let bogus Gloria sing “Hello Garci.”

There were 4 INC members who saw personally the bogus president re INC participation if Glue wouldn’t back off from ConAss. Sinagip nila si Glueria sa totoo lang!

Before that, the Luneta gathering which was originally a political rally was already scheduled. After the 4 INC visits, Luneta was not available anymore said to be scheduled months ago by Pagcor. What do you think happened in between? Himala?

Luneta rally is scheduled tomorrow, Sunday, when INC celebrates “Pasasalamat” said never to be missed by the members. What a coincidence?

May sarili daw paninindigan. Nasaan?

I DARE Gloria to join that rally on Sunday !

Although I liked what Noypi said: “Let her attend, why not. But as soon as she got to the stage, people should start leaving the rally, make it a total embarrasment for her. No violence, just leave the place calmly. Ang saya-saya, di ba?”

Indeed, that would be FUN to watch. Make her an embarassment of herself !

  43. Chabeli Chabeli

Whether Gloria will go to the rally or not, this is merely an added ploy of Gloria to CONFUSE the people. By nature, CONFUSION makes people stop; paralysis, in other words. Gloria is doing EVERYTHING to make sure the attendance at Sunday rally in Luneta does not swell to a critical mass. It will be to her advantage, of course, if the Luneta rally turns out to be a dud.

Whatever it is, NOBODY can really predict the outcome. For now, those who are in the Philippines should join and be counted ! The way I look at it, this is not anymore about whose side your on, or what the agenda is. To me, THE LUNETA RALLY IS ABOUT ASKING GOD FOR GUIDANCE ON HOW TO GET RID OF THE SMUT IN GOVERNMENT. MANY ARE FED UP WITH THE ROTTEN SYSTEM THAT IS RUN BY BASURAS.

  44. Chabeli Chabeli

If the LUNETA RALLY is able to show a critical mass of AT LEAST 500,000 people, then we’re in business, so to speak. Of course, if there will be more than 500,000 people, then that would be WOW PHILIPPINES !

The dynamics are changing. Like the Anti-Glorias, the Pro-Glorias themselves cannot tell the outcome. They can only do everything in their power to control the situation before it even starts. That’s part of her strategy. As we know by now, from the threats, to Gloria-kuno attending the rally, this is all about control. It would be to Gloria’s advantage if she is in control of this LUNETA RALLY even before before it begins. For now, it’s really a wait & see, I guess.

On the sidelines, there seems to be a scuffle between LAKAS and KAMPI..Gloria’s party is KAMPI, while LAKAS is JdV’s. From LAKAS’ point of view, Gloria ditched them..I ready somewhere that a certain Mayor Benjie Lim (KAMPI, I think), is rumored to be the next Speaker of the House. In today’s Inquirer, I read that he was in the rally in IloIlo AGAINST CHA-CHA. Strange no?

I read this on ABS-CBN NEWS. I found it rather funny coming from Malacañan through Ignacio Bunye. He says that ““This government upholds democracy and the rule of law. We appeal for calm and sobriety and urge all those who would participate in the prayer rally to heed the call of church leaders and not turn this into a political circus or a venue for grandstanding,“ Bunye said in a statement posted over government Web site http://www.news.ops.gov.ph…“Peace and unity are also the primordial concern of this administration and we are one with our religious leaders in bringing these aspirations into fruition,” he added.“” THE GALL TO ISSUE STATEMENTS LIKE THIS. THEY ARE THE ONES MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS RALLY THAN THE RALLYIST THEMSELVES. KATAWA NAMAN !

“The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured that it will observe “maximum tolerance” in maintaining peace and order during the vigil.” OF COURSE THEY WILL, WE ALREADY GOT A BLACK-EYE WITH AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL !

Gloria promises a more prosperous 2007

    12/16/2006

Amid the hunger and poverty being experienced by a vast majority of Filipinos, President Arroyo in her Christmas and New Year’s message yesterday, promised a more prosperous 2007, an improvement she said that would be felt by the people.

In her official statement, Mrs. Arroyo said she is hopeful that “with the dawning of the year, people will come together in the mighty Grace of the Lord.”

Mrs. Arroyo also promised that the people will feel the reforms her administration is currently implementing, all of which will come in the form of services, investments and jobs.

She also vowed to continue to battle poverty in 2007.

“The reforms being implemented will bear fruit and they will be felt by the people through better services, investments and jobs in our continuing fight against poverty,’ Mrs. Arroyo was quoted as saying.

The Chief Executive also called on the public to help the victims of past disasters and be generous in helping the less fortunate this Christmas season.

Such promises if realized would be seen as very timely as a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released late this year showed hunger hitting record highs in October, along with an SWS analysis saying that the series it came out with that has hunger ranging from 12 percent to 16.7 percent of families in the four quarters of 2005, and from 13.9 percent to 16.9 percent in the first three quarters of 2006, shows the emptiness of the Gross National Product as an indicator of economic well-being.

According to the survey which was conducted from Sept. 24 to Oct. 2, 2.9 million Filipinos suffered from hunger in the last three months while half or 51 percent of Filipinos consider themselves poor.

The SWS survey has apparently served as a wake-up call for Malacañang with regard to addressing the problem of poverty and hunger currently being experienced by majority of Filipinos.

The publication of the survey prompted Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita to immediately instruct concerned agencies to intensify the Arroyo government’s anti-poverty campaign.

The agencies tapped the National Anti-Poverty Commission headed by lead convenor Domingo Panganiban, Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap and Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Esperanza Cabral to spearhead the renewed anti-poverty campaign.

The Palace also instructed other agencies to come out with their respective press conferences and round table discussions so that their efforts in the anti-poverty campaign would be made known to the media.

Prior to the SWS survey, President Arroyo boasted of several pro-poor programs which are part of her administration’s Medium Term Development Plan.

    from tribune:

AFP officers decry prostitution of military

    12/16/2006

Military officers and their men are increasingly getting too restive as they want an end to the prostitution of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), an institution they said is their “First wife,” as even their own wives and children come second, in their line of work.

This was disclosed yesterday to the Tribune by two high-ranking military officers, a general in the active service and a colonel, both of whom asked for anonymity, saying they would get themselves and their men into trouble if their identities were disclosed.

In an interview with the Tribune yesterday, the higher-ranking military officer said “the soldiers in the AFP are now very aware of the ‘anger’ of the people against the Arroyo administration,” adding that given the “right spark,” they may all turn against the Arroyo regime to cause its collapse.

“Like the Filipino people who have reached the end of their rope, the soldiers also are nearing the end of their rope,” he said, pointing out that “they (officers) feel that there can be no hope for the changes the men in the AFP want done, but not under the present government” since they have seen just how President Arroyo, their Commander-in-Chief, has so “debased” the military institution by “making the military top leaders cheat for her” during the 2004 elections.

His officer, who was with him, confirmed this, saying the AFP officers and men whose “conscience has been bothering them” have gone into analyzing the reasons behind the outrage of the Filipino people today and

said they have concluded that it is not Charter change (Cha-cha) that has angered them, but the many times the Arroyo regime has tried to cover up for the alleged crimes of the President.

“They now know that she must go, because she will have to continue covering up all those crimes, and will commit more crimes in doing so,” the officer disclosed, adding “that this all stems from her having cheated her way to win the elections.

“When military officers, troubled by their conscience, wanted to speak up on the cheating before the Senate, she quickly came up with her EO 464 to gag the Senate and punish the soldiers who wanted to bring out the truth, but everybody in the military knows the truth of her bogus presidency. They even know the identities of the officers who were actively cheating for her; who distributed money to several politicians and election officers and who gave the orders to cheat for her,” he said, stressing that the order was done in a “chain of command” style.

He also said that public funds, such as the fertilizer funds went to politicians and the election officers to make sure that she wins the presidency. “When this was discovered, she again quickly covered it up by stonewalling the Senate investigations and doing nothing to get (former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn) Joc-Joc Bolante to talk. She was protecting him to protect herself,” the source stressed.

“And look who she is punishing! Those who were doing the right thing. Those who love the AFP as their First Wife. Those who try to right a wrong, while those who obeyed illegal orders; those who cheated for her; those who cover up for her, are rewarded,” the sources said.

They added that the soldiers have been confused for a long time, but that they are now, like the Filipino people, waking up to the truth of the problems stemming from her bogus presidency.

“She (Mrs. Arroyo) is like a cancer. It is not the Constitution that must be excised. The cancer (that is Mrs. Arroyo) must be excised, if we are to be healed as a military force and as a people. “She (Mrs. Arroyo) must go.

The general also noted that Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim analyzed the problem well when he zeroed in on Mrs. Arroyo as a bogus president. “It is difficult for the soldiers to keep on obeying orders that are patently illegal, and worse, coming from an illegitimate president,” he pointed out, saying all the problems with the nation and the military began when Mrs. Arroyo grabbed power unconstitutionally.

Because the military installed her to power and cheated for her in the polls, he said the President constantly keeps on bribing them with positions even when they do not deserve them.

(Former President Ferdinand) Marcos may have been hated by the Filipino people, but he never asked the military to cheat for him. This commander in chief (Mrs. Arroyo) did,” he said.

It was the top ranking military leaders, he said, who were distributing the money to their officers in the field who then also distributed the funds to the politicians, Commission on Elections (Comelec) operators and officers, with the orders for them to alter and pad Mrs. Arroyo’s votes to ensure her victory.

“The soldiers who were used by this administration to cheat for her (Mrs. Arroyo) could no longer stomach the way they were being ordered to commit illegal acts and to go against the Constitution and started their ‘soul-searching’ on this issue,” the military source noted, saying that when the tapped conversations between the President and then Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano surfaced and an investigation was called, “many volunteered to testify and tell the truth to (then AFP Inspector-General Mateo Mayuga), but none of them were ever interviewed.”

He also rued the conduct of Mayuga, who had recently retired as Navy chief. “He (Mayuga) even told his people that he ‘will never disclose what the real story of the military officers’ involvement is, as he vowed to bring the Mayuga report to his grave.’ Sayang (a pity). What a waste of one could have become a good officer,” he said.

The source also said the officers and men who still love the institution, are also “watching and waiting” while they continue to witness for themselves the way the officers are being debased by the military leadership.

He cited the example of Capt. Langkit, who is in solitary confinement and only because, he said, AFP chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon Jr., through his men, has been trying to coerce him into turning state witness and lie about his comrades actions, especially on the Marines stand-off in Fort Bonifacio.

“He (Langkit) was brought to Tanay blindfolded and handcuffed and kept in solitary confinement. We saw how thin he had become and how (physically) weak he was, but when he emerged for the hearing, he said, like a true soldier: “I may be physically weak but my spirit is still fighting for what is right.’ This kept our spirits up. We still have, as the movie title goes, ‘A Few Good Men,” the military said.

“Why they think they (Mrs. Arroyo and her her military generals) can cover up their crimes by rewarding those who cheated for her, and have been covering up for her all this time is laughable. The soldiers are not robots kept unaware of the goings-on. We read the newspapers. We listen to radio and watch TV. We all know what is going on and see what is happening to out beloved country, and our beloved AFP. We know what the problems are, and it is not whether we should Cha-cha or not. Cha-cha, whether this is shelved or whether this pushes through, will not solve the big problems facing all the Filipinos.

“At the right time, our First Wife will move, and do what needs to be done,” the general said. NCO

The issue on P728-million fertilizer funds scam is connected to Gloria Arroyo’s massive cheating in 2004 presidential election. Joc-Joc Bolante may sing a song at US immigration court to save his ass. The CBCP acknowledged it could no ignore the escalating problems facing the country and the questionable legitimacy of President Gloria. It’s not too late for CBCP repentance. The CBCP past leadership collaborated and tolerated the cheating and lying of Gloria Arroyo.

RE: Not intentionally changing the topic, whatever happen to Josie (Joc-Joc) Bolante. Does anybody here know? Bolate disappeared completely out of radar. Ms Ellen can you help.

News blackout on Bolante case imposed

A total news blackout on the case of Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante in downtown Chicago has been imposed after the former agriculture undersecretary formally asked the court to grant him asylum in the United States, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau reported Saturday.

Bureau chief Ging Reyes reported that immigration courts bar the public from observing a trial hearing a political asylum petition in order to give protection to the petitioner.

Due to this, the media and the public were barred Thursday from entering the building where the case is being heard.

The lawyers of Bolante also warned that they would ask the court to punish those who will leak any information about the case.

Chicago-based Filipino immigration lawyer Manny Aguja, however, said that Bolante’s trial is no ordinary case and should be opened to the public.

“It would be to the best interest of the Filipino people to keep these proceedings public as long as all parties are not disruptive. I really think that this should be open to public scrutiny,” he said.

Bolante was detained at the Kenosha County Detention Center in Wisconsin after he was arrested on July 7 at the Los Angeles International Airport due to a canceled B1/B2 visa. Reports said his visa had been canceled by the US embassy in Manila in connection with his case in the Philippines.

The former undersecretary has been accused of channeling P728-million in fertilizer funds to the campaign kitty of President Arroyo in 2004, a charge that he denies.

The report said Bolante’s family attended the hearing for the second time to testify at the trial.

Bolante’s wife and three children, however, refused to grant any media interview. The report said they are now staying at a 36-story condominium in Chestnut Street in downtown Chicago, where the rental of units start at $3,800 a month.

Many thanks for Josie Bolate’s update. I was just wondering what happen to the klepto. It’s good to hear he’s still being detained like a common criminal that he is. May be he’ll have an heart attack while in jail. We couldn’t be that lucky eh! I’d imagine the 728 Million is now gone for good and/or some of it is being used for rental luxury lifestyle by the family.

  56. Freedom of speech is being suppressed in the Philippines, so who says that it is democracy that they have in that island country now. BS!!! What the crooks in the Philippines do not realize is that with the cancellation of the ASEAN, etc. recent events, the Philippines is being monitored by countries around the world, especially countries with lots of vested interests in the Philippines.

This suppression of freedom like the refusal of entry to Manila and Makati to join the rallies there of out-of-towners will be reported in newspapers around the world, in which case perhaps, the rallyists may just as well try to march around the boarder and demand freedom of speech even when the PNP that is supposed to maintain peace and order and not point their guns on them kill them one by one. What a massacre it will be and the world condemning such barbarism. Parang Darfur ang labas!

Kaya itong si Great Switik, in trying to get US support is now protesting and criticizing the Philippine justice system plus the condition of the prisons that she has not done anything at all to improve. Wow, and bobo!

I worked in a Japanese prison as an interpreter, and I have never heard of the Japanese government giving into the capriciousness of foreigners.

I have stated in previous posts likewise that I have handled cases in the Japanese court involving offenders from the US bases in Japan. They are handed over to Japanese authorities by the US without any fuss as US base officials and the US Embassy in Japan have more trust and confidence in the more efficient Japanese. They know of the restrictions in the Japanese jails and prisons, but they tell their nationals to behave without them asking for special concessions for their offending nationals. Pwe!

What a bunch of hypocrites!

Someone please help me out here. Why Thanksgiving Prayer rally? Ano ang ipagpasalamat?

    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This is a euphemism to appease imagined threats of terror and destabilization by the opposition, which the military and police cooked up. Perhaps this is a feeble prayer of the rally organizers that hopefully the police and military will not disrupt the rally by performing what they are thinking aloud themselves.

  59. npongco npongco

I wonder what party this Abra Congressman who was shot dead belonged? Was he with the opposition or administration? If this trend continues after the alleged assassination try on Dodot Jaworski, then the situation is ripe for civil war and never ending chaos. All these are happening just because this evil woman continues to remain in power. Regarding Mayor Lim of Dagupan, if he’s with KAMPI and now breaking his ties with GMA, then DILG Sec. Puno might follow soon. Puno is the KAMPI head and has a huge following. Besides, he’s still close to Erap. Puno being a political genius knows when to jump ship.

Thanks Alitaptap. That’s deeply beautiful. If only we can feel the realization of the thanksgiving prayer soon, the better for all pinoys.

  61. joeseg joeseg

To attend the prayer rally or not, that is the question. But nobody is being forced to go there. We have a mind of our own just like GMA and the rest of her believers who pushed for the cha-cha an still pushing inspite of many pronouncements on the contrary.

I am attending because I remember RC:

“I would like to say to you all (that) I am completely appalled by your collective gall. You’re totally bereft of principle that’s why you’re without shame.”

    Joeseg translation for Dec. 17:

Sinabi ko na sainyo, may araw ding kayo. Ang masamang gawain ay hindi nagtatagal. Kahit pusikit na dilim, may liwanag ding daratal. Magpasalamat kayo kung sisikatan pa kayo ng araw (sa Dec. 18).

And speaking of a mind of our own, we stumbled upon this
Inquirer’s Editorial (Dec. 16). It is a stinging rebuke on the pro con-ass congressmen. The item dwell on the repentance of Cebu Congressman Antonio Cuenco that he made a mistake in pushing for the con-ass but he’s just following party stand.

It made us realized, bakit nga naman hindi maeengayo ang isang congressman na suportahan ang con-ass kung sangkatutak na benepisyo ang kanyang matatanggap bukod pa sa tinanggap na. Aminin!

    The editorial (in part only):

A Cebu bishop asked: Don’t they have minds of their own?”

“Of course, they do. But their minds were focused on getting the many irresistible rewards dangled before them. Like getting a term extension of five months, possibly even longer, while they set about amending the Constitution. Like the possibility of staying in the House for life, with the lifting of term limits, or getting family members to inherit their congressional seats. Plus the goodies allegedly distributed during the late-night sessions and the pork barrel being readied for rolling into the hands of friends of the administration.”

ET-friends, nagsisimula na. I received a frantic call that our small group of promdi who will go to Luneta are being held at bay by uniformed and battle geared military men in Maharlika Highway somewhere in Batangas.

It gave credence to Daily Tribune’s (Dec.17)headline “PNP sets up checkpoints to block out of towners.“

With the military and police fully mobilized, and those who will attend are blocked on their way, the prayer-rally may end up with more uniformed (and in plainclothes)men in Luneta than the rallyists.

See you, I mean read you, on Monday, hopefully.

Gloria will surely be lynched by the people in the rally if she ever decides to attend, thats for sure.

With regards to the announcement of CBCP that the rally will be a “thanksgiving” rally, well I’m not really surprised by it. They lack the “balls”! Remember during the “Hello Garci” contovercy? People everywhere are all up in arms then, and what statement did the CBCP issued during that time.

  70. Hello everyone and hello Joeseg,

Thank you very much for your kind words.

Had I not accessed Ellen’s blog and read your comment, (the first on the net I accessed as soon as I had the chance to go on the comp – been very very busy these last 24 hours), I wouldn’t have known that my comments has been posted by The Tribune.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you and everyone else rallying for an excellent cause tomorrow, the very best of luck. I do hope Gloria will think several times before unleashing her dogs of war on the rallyists, that she may blink several times before she is blinded by evil and most of all, that all will be well with the rallyists, most of all physically.

I do believe that with such an honorable cause, Gloria who represents the height of evil (the summum of bad and the worst in every man, woman and those in between, the person who for her personal ambition, is prepared to sell her own sould to the devil even if it means that the rest of the country is fed to the dogs), the Filipino people will come out of rut Gloria has put the country in!!!!

Joeseg, my heartfelt congrautlations for your moral and physical courage. How I wish I was there to be able to contribute my tiny, litte person’s voice to a just and honourable cause. It would have been a great honour to be there with all of you.

See you on Monday over here at Ellen’s God willing, victorious!

“The convergence of so many institutions and groups — with the good of the country in their hearts — is a miracle of grace,” Lagdameo said in a statement. “It is a religious response to a political situation. Our government needs to be prayed for.”

But it’s rather incomplete. He should have stated: “Our government needs to be prayed for… that the one leading it be compelled by reason if not by conscience TO STAND DOWN. It is the only honourable thing to do after what this nation has been through.”

  77. Phil,

Promise, I will try to do more spottings on! Heheh!
