Burgos family tags Bulacan-based battalion in snatching

Update on Jayjay Burgos:

The Burgos family yesterday tagged elements of the Army 56th Infantry Battalion based in Bulacan as suspects in the disappearance of Jonas Joseph Burgos who was abducted by armed men in a restaurant at the Ever Gotesco mall in Quezon City on April 28.

“All indications point to the 56th IB as the culprit,” said JL Burgos, a younger brother of the missing peasant advocate.

The 56th IB is under Col. Noel Clement.

Burgos said his family wants the battalion commander to say who took Jonas and what has happened to him since he was taken.

“We have already talked to Gen. Delfin Bangit, chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and asked him to find Jonas,” JL said.

JL said Bangit will now be in a position to undertake a thorough investigation to determine the perpetrators of the abduction, with information from the Department of Environment on Natural Resources about the vehicle used in the abduction.

Regidor de Leon, DENR executive director for Central Luzon, said Tuesday that a vehicle with license plate TAB 194 was impounded at the 56th IB headquarters after figuring in an anti-illegal logging operation in June last year.

The operation in Norzagaray and Angat was conducted by a joint team from the DENR and the Army.

He said that as far as the DENR knows, the vehicle is still impounded.

But De Leon said the vehicle was a locally made XLT jeep. Witnesses who reported the license plate have said the suspects used a maroon Toyota Revo. Earlier reports said records of the Land Transportation Office showed the plate was registered to an Isuzu AUV.

De Leon said he has not received any feedback from the team he sent to coordinate with Clement.

JL said since his brother disappeared, nothing much has been heard from investigators and police and military officers.

“There has been no ransom demand and no additional text messages from his cell phone since then,” JL said.

Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. directed the Provost Marshal General to investigate Burgos’ disappearance.

A team of investigators from the Army’s Provost Marshall General started investigations last week.

Esperon said that in June last year, “a locally assembled truck” was impounded for carrying illegally cut logs.

“The usual practice is that the DENR will allow us to have that kept inside camp and so the truck was put at the back of the 56th IB. The plate number, how it came about, that is one of the primary focuses of this investigation,” he said.

He said the battalion was out of Bulacan from November last year to March this year for training. The vehicle was left in the camp. Investigators will determine if the license plate was taken while the soldiers were away.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said that as far as the AFP is concerned, the vehicle remains impounded at the 56th IB camp, although it no longer has an engine and a license plate.

He said this could be the reason the military is being blamed for the abduction.

He said the license plate could have been stolen and attached to the vehicle used by Jonas’ abductors.

Ermita said as a personal friend of the Burgoses, he, too, is concerned about Jonas. He said he was a friend of Joe Burgos.

Militants tagged as “damning evidence” the information from the DENR.

Anakpawis party list Rep. Rafael Mariano said “no amount of lies can absolve the Philippine Army and its 56th Infantry Battalion from their criminal responsibility.”

Mariano, also chairman of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, said evidence directly points to the military and “no amount of lies and cover up can clear the Army on this.”

Jonas was active in holding agricultural training seminars for members of the Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid ng Bulacan, a local chapter of KMP. to military commanders in the field to surface Jonas,” he said. – Victor Reyes, Reinir Padua and Jocelyn Montemayor

Ermita said that the license plate could have stolen and attached to the vehicle used by Jonas abductors.I thought Ermita was a good Military General during his time.Who is an idiotic and lunatic person that will steal a license plate in a military headquarter? That license plate is not worth a centavo in the junk shop.Ermita, Sherlock Holmes has written a lot of Mystery books regarding detective novels, you can buy them along Recto.

Kung ang biktima ay hindi nila kakampi, they have all kinds of denials and alibis.
(which is to be expected) Ang reaksiyon ba ay tulad na naman noong 2004?

They made a big blunder at nabuko sila dahil sa plate number.

After the election, we will be convinced that OUR DEMOCRATIC PROCESSES HAS ALREADY COLLAPSED AND THEREFORE NEED DRASTIC REVOLUTIONARY CHANGE!!!

The license plate TAB 194 is a staring point for further investigation. I don’t know how efficient the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is conducting a follow-up investigation. They may need pampadulas o pangasolina to keep them moving. Why the US Embassy in Manila sent American forensic experts in Julia Campbell murder case? Most likely they don’t trust the local police. What physical evidence? General Ermita should watch TV series CIS Miami/New York. Science is normally used to support other forms of evidence. Circumstantial evidence can be and often is much more powerful than direct evidence. The 56th IB battalion commander Col. Noel Clement has lots of explaining to do with the abduction of Jonas Burgos.

Matapang silang magsabing ilabas ang ebidensiya or go to court kaagad. If one goes to court even with evidences, it takes forever at financially down na ang accuser before he’ll ever hear of the outcome.

  10. cocoy cocoy

    Elvira;
Tama talaga iyan.

  11. Spy Spy

Instead of denying and practically absolving the army of the abduction case, Ermita should have promised the family of jajyjay to solve the crime immediately.

In an investigation, there are 3 basic elements to be considered to determine the culprits:

    1. Motive
    2. capability
    3. opportunity

only one group has satisfied the above-mentioned elements: the govt.

  12. The military are taking the citizenry to be fools, they are a sham an utter disgrace. Even the church leaders have taken leave of their senses by endorsing a governor as senator who has been openly dubbed as a criminal in America! Seems everyone is earning from this election.
It’s time for the people to openly withdraw their support from this lying, corrupt government and voice this withdrawal at every given opportunity.
The result of the crooked election is a forgone conclusion – isn’t it! or do we believe in fairies (small supernatural creatures) and her enchanted kingdom?
Come on everybody – it’s time to GISING! if its a revolution they want then let it be.

56 IB (under Ltcol Clement) and 7ID (under Gen Gomez) have new spokespersons: Ermita and Esperon!

  15. Ducky Parades Malaya: said
When can we ever get back to having a military that serves the nation and not some political leader or political party? The way that things look, our military may never get back to what is right and how things should be. Its current crop of leaders may have destroyed it forever unless this country undergoes another upheaval that will install a military that the leadership will respect and which will have some pride in itself.
COMMENT: upheaval is a polite way of saying revolution but even he knows its the only way to sort out the administration plus the military leaders need sorted out and removed also. Then, as Ducky Parades says ‘get back to what is right and how things should be’. Maybe he’s returned from his golf trip to her enchanted kingdom at last – welcome back!

Iyan ang sinabi ni Alston. Sabi niya he went to the Philippines at the end of February. Natapos ang Melo Commission investigation supposedly noong January. Sabi niya supposedly tapos na rin ang report nila, pero nang dumating daw siya walang mai-present sa kaniya ang mga kumag, and how they tried in fact to prevent him from coming to the Philippines despite his UN status.

So, he made his own investigations with the help of concerned NGOs.

This I have observed in fact, and compared with the police in Japan, talagang walang sinabi.

  18. indio indio

this is the same people that snatched the group of up student cadapan and company, this people of col clement is the one responsible of all the extra judicial killings in region two, they also engaged in robberies such as bank heist, cattle rustling, caranaping, kidnaping and other crimes!!and some are not even soldiers but criminals being used as assets and being given legal id`s of the afp and pnp!this monster must be stopped! they are being protected by nsa gonzales and doj gonsales!!this group has the blessings of GMA and pet project of ermita, esperon, ebdane and dilg puno!!unite now or it will be to late for us filipinos!!this people are so drunk with power that they will not stop in killing innocent filipinos just to stay in power!! God bless the philippines!!

I hope this will give the new batch of Senators to revoke the law that puts the police under the military and make a new one that will create a Police Commission (a Public Safety Commission) that will have jurisdiction over a National Police Agency that will have control of all local police departments that will thence be created.

Gosh, back to zero na naman ang labas, but it’s OK if it means better law and order! Iyan ang isang dapat unahin ni Sonny if he gets through the election even with the massive cheating!

I remember the grand march, when Ninoy died, the “Lakbayan” (Lakbay ng Bayan) a march from North and from South for one week at nag meet ang two groups sa Qurino grandstand, nagyakapan sila late Don Chino Roces, late Soc Rodrigo, Butch Aquino, Amado Gat Insiong, etc., napakasaya ng mga marchers.

Masarap ang feeling while on the road, vilagers will offer drinking water and mirienda, ang sarap talaga. Sana maulit muli. Tara!!! martsa tayo!
