Statement of Adel Tamano, Genuine Opposition spokesman, on the order of the Comelec to stop media count (click here for the story):
The Comelec order to stop the quick counts is an unconstitutional infringement on press freedom and the public’s right to information. Moreover, Chairman Abalos’ statement that the TV networks could report votes but not collate the votes is plainly illogical.
Vote collation involves simple arithmetic and is merely a synthesis of the votes that Chairman Abalos admits the press can report on. Furthermore, since the quick counts have been historically accurate and permitted inthe past, then why prohibit them now?
The quick counts are an important source of information demanded by the public who want to know how their national candidates are faring in the elections. The counts are a matter of public interest and cannot be prohibited on a mere suspicion by the Comelec that the count will be used for trending.
Former Transportation and Communications Secretary Josie Lichauco explained the predicament of the TV networks:
If TV networks ordered by Comelec to stop their quickcounts don’t stop, it is so simple for the administration to cut them off the air because the air frequencies are now within the the presidency’s fingertips by virtue of E.O 454 which placed the National Telecommunications Commission under the administrative supervision and control of the Department of Transportation and Communication.
It should be, which it has been, as far as I can remeber, merely under administrative supervision, not control because the NTC is a quasi-judicial body.

GMATV has tried to confirm with us the actual no. of votes cast in Japan as Malacanang is now claiming that their candidates won in Japan. We have copies of our CoC’s for Liberal Party and so they cannot refute our claim of the actual votes tabulated. Apoi got only 86 votes for partylist as you will see in the tabulation I sent you, but Malacanang is claiming that Apoi 500 votes from Filipinos in Japan when majority of the Filipinos here do not even know the partylists and a lot of them did not vote for any partylist. The highest scorer is Gabriela with 127 votes.

It is Unconstitutional, but the only way to have the Law struck down is to challenge the Comelec by defying its Order and fight it out in the court of law.
Had the Comelec been able to do their job and do a quick count themselves, and usually election results are known in less 24 hours (we can have all our results in maximum 3 hours) then the Media Count would have been unnecessary.
The Malacanang robbers are starting to move. They have been sending fillers to the media after telling them to stop publishing election results so they can condition the minds of the voters when they make their false claims.
The nerve of these crooks to even choose Japan as their guinea pig for this kind of modus operandi. What they probably did not expect is they cannot frighten the Filipinos in Japan who pollwatched during the counting of the ballots of voters in Japan, especially when they are permanent residents here with proper visas who are protected by the laws of this land.
The nerve of these crooks likewise in publishing erroneous data that contradict those published in the Philippine Embassy site. Hindi ba nahihiya ang mga ungas na ito! Buking na buking na sila, sinungaling pa ng sinungaling. If they continue with this BS, we shall expose them in newspapers here in Japan.
