Media access to Trillanes

Last March, a number of working journalists wrote Judge Oscar Pimentel Sr. of the Makati Regional Trial Court to give us access to detained Lt. (s.g.) Antonio Trillanes, senatorial candidate of the Genuine Opposition.

We cited in our petition provisions in the Bill of Rights of the Constitution that guarantee “freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press.”

Charged with coup d’etat in connection with what is referred to as “Oakwood mutiny” on July 27, 2003, Trillanes is detained at the Marine Brig in Fort Bonifacio.

Pimentel granted the media access to Trillanes April 17. In those short three weeks, he was able to explain to the public, through media interviews, why he was running for the Senate, his legislative program and his stand on public issues.

That somehow leveled the playing field among the senatorial candidates because in the first nine weeks of the campaign, he was an invisible candidate. Which was grossly unfair.

The voters must have liked his unflinching stand against the illegitimacy of the Arroyo presidency because he is No.9 in the Pulse Asia/ABS-CBN nationwide exit poll. Political analysts have called the surprising strong showing of Trillanes as a resounding protest vote against Gloria Arroyo.

We are writing Judge Pimentel again this week because he has withdrawn the media access that he gave the detained GO candidate.

Last Thursday, ABS-CBN had scheduled an interview with Trillanes. As required by the court, media outfits inform the court of the media interview as well as the Marine Brig. In the morning, ABS-CBN got a call from the office of Judge Pimentel telling them that the permission for media access to Trillanes was good only during the campaign period.

At his crucial stage of the election, there are number of issues on which we want Trillanes’ statements. The Bill of Rights has a provision that “The right of the people to information on matters of public concern shall be recognized.”

It is in that spirit that we want to have access to Trillanes now.

Add to that, Ellen, we want to have uninterrupted access to our favorite blogs! Darn, I have been trying to get back into this blog for more than an hour.

Manolo Quezon’s blog is inaccessible, too.

Yesterday, Malaya’s website was offline. Tribune’s links lead to nowhere.

    What gives?

    PANLIMANG TRY NA ITO ELLEN
    sorry but within election topic:

SONIA ROCO’s watchers should check NAMFREL REPORT:

    May19 at 9:47pm Roco… 2,712,929
    May20 at 5:43am Roco… 2,441,772
    DIFFERENCE . . . . . . . 271,157
    PERCENT DECREASED . . . 10% AFTER A FEW HOURS

well, dealing with numbers I found isn’t
boring at all. more like this coming.

Joker and Angara are the first two trees
to burn; look at the others too like
    Defensor, Zubiri, Singson, Recto,
Pichay, Sotto, etc. let’s focus on
    NAMFREL, then on COMELEC.

No matter what they do, huwag lang ngang madaya pasok si Trillanes, because majority of the Filipinos voted for him, and a vote for Trillanes is a referendum on the criminal calling herself president.

A vote for Trillanes is evidence enough that Filipino voters have politically matured enough to deserve better sets of politicians and bureaucrats to serve them as PUBLIC SERVANTS not their bosses paid with their hard-earned taxpayments to a well-deserving government, not one that is run like hell by criminals who would even dare deprive them of their rights and privileges as guaranteed by their Constitution and other laws of the land.

If Filipinos do not know their rights and privileges they should be told. They should actually revise their laws for everyone to be able to understand it, not interpret it the way the bobos interpret them.

    Kawawang bansa!

  7. If Trillanes makes it to the 12 san the massive cheating, I will invite him to Japan and have him observe our national election in July, and then ask him to introduce a law that will make election in the Philippines easier for both the public and the canvassers.

Over here we have 5 major political parties and during election, candidates are fielded by these parties either as members of these parties, solely or mixed or as independent as in the case of LDP’s Ishihara Shintaro (Japanese way of saying names) who ran as an independent in our last election for governor. Personally, I either vote for the Socialist Democratic Party or the Minshuto depending on who has the better platform or issue to tackle that affects our livelihood, etc. And even when there are 3 or more seats being contested over here, we vote for only one candidate whose name we write on the ballot given us at the polls. Then, these ballots are sorted out by names written on them and then counted. The high scorers get the seat. And if there are several positions to be filled as one for the upper and lower houses, we fill in two or three ballots as when we likewise have to check the list of our Supreme Court judge. Even just one scratch from the list can remove a sitting judge of our Supreme Court where the judges need to be exemplary. None having concubines are allowed to sit in the government. If they are caught, they are removed once and for all—never allowed to return forever!

Having so many names in the ballots, I guess is what makes the canvassing of votes there easier for the crooks to rig them. I will ask Trillanes to have the revision of the Philippine Election Code and Procedure as one of the issues that he need to concentrate on as a Senator of the Philippines. With the help of people like Koko Pimentel and Alan Cayetano, I hope and pray that they can come up with laws that will make the activities of Gloria Macapal Arroyo and Company tagged definitely as crimes that should be punished and fined.

As Christians, etc. and professing to have faith in God, I guess it is time for Philippine officials to be made to have more spirituality and propriety. Patalsikin na, now na ang mga kurakot.

Sabi nga ni Lacson, “HUWAG MATAKOT SA MGA KURAKOT!” And Sonny’s, “Magdalo para sa pagbabago!”

  8. jay cynikho jay cynikho

    Nobody noticed that mistake on
    Mrs. Roco’s tally? That’s 271,157 votes
    from many precincts.

  9. jay cynikho jay cynikho

Here’s something sexy in the tally.
Let’s get attention for Mrs. Roco.

    Double Entendre’ in NAMFREL TALLY:

What Are these TU villains doing to a GO lady? On May 18 at 5:15am Namfrel reported that Mr. Pichay and Mr. Defensor has sandwiched Ms. Roco with Pichay (No.15) on top and Defensor (No.17) below Ms. Roco.

About 24 hours later, May 19 at 4:54am NAMFREL reported something worse. Mr. Cesar Montano climbed up atop Ms. Roco. Pichay and Defensor won’t Just let go. Both are riding on top of Montano. These guys are real heavy and
It’s John Osmena that’s carrying their weights, because he’s right under Ms. Roco.

NAMFREL reported no change in the pile up as of 12:09 pm May 19 like this:
    15- Pichay . . . . 2,363,503
    16-Defensor . . 2,256,614
    17-Roco . . . . . . 1,871,916
    18-Osmena . . . 1,692,265

Those with fertile minds (Ystakei? No! Definitely.) might say Pichay and Defensor are facing each other. And knowing Osmena, it’s just a spoon (back to front) with Ms. Roco.

Is it magic that Roco and Defensor had the same exact number of votes in their May 19, 9:47pm tally, to wit: 2,712,929 votes.

It is 5:43am May 20 and those guys (Pichay, Defensor, Montano) are still there like metamorphic rocks weighing down Mrs. Roco. But it’s Osmena who’s like Sisyphus who perforce must push up his 3 TU pals.

  10. jay cynikho jay cynikho

Yeah, Okay I’ll have a look at what they
are doing to the two NON-TRAPOS, potential
Pitbulls of the Senate, Messrs Cayetano
and Trillanes. If they do win the elections
I hope Trillanes and Cayetano become Dingos
from Australia’s outback. If Dingos can
eat babies, Dingos can easily eat Tiyanaks.

  11. Time for Filipinos to assert their rights especially in the case of Trillanes. The Filipinos have voted for this gallant soldier. They alone have the right to decide the faith of this man who has been charged with rebellion against a criminal.

Since his case says “People of the Republic of the Philippines VERSUS Antonio Trillanes IV,” it is but sane and logical that the judge of the court trying his case to heed likewise the verdict of the majority of the Filipinos and that is, “Let Antonio Trillanes IV serve the Filipino people in that august hall called “The Senate of the Philippines.” Malinaw na malinaw iyan.

Ano ba talaga ang gustong mangyari ni Abaloslos, et al? Magkagulo ang Pilipinas? Puede ba ipakulong na lang ang mga magnanakaw ng boto na mga iyan?!

BTW, pagsamantalahan na ninyo habang natutulog pa ang mga nagba-bloc ng blog ni Ellen. Mag-ingay tayo!!!

  12. jay cynikho jay cynikho

Here’s an initial focus on Pitbulls Trillanes and Cayetano. The HONEST start placed Cayetano No. 7 just below Noynoy at No. 6. and Trillanes was No. 7. Pitbulls are non-trapos. About 24 hours later, two God damned Trapos (people do curse them) Angara and Joker dislodged them and dropped them to Nos 10 and 11, respectively, the slaughter table before Trillanes and Cayetano are finally hacked out to the twenties. Masyadong maaga baka mahalata.

Mas nakakatakot si Pitbull Trillanes, so by May 20 at 5:43 am, LAGLAG na siya sa No. 13. As I said in previous posting, Trillanes is a dangerous Pitbull who had been trained to maim and kill being a soldier while Cayetano grew up a pet Pitbull being the son of a gentleman politician. The numbers will be more interesting.

  13. jay cynikho jay cynikho

Don’t get me wrong guys. Trillanes is no
killer, nor a psychopath. He is dangerous
only to tyrants and criminals. He even made

a bomb in Oakwood. Don’t get me wrong please.

  14. jay cynikho jay cynikho

Happy automatic fire by pistols or armalites?
    detonating bombs killing civilians, people
know they can easily say that of some
    of Trillanes’ Mistahs.

Mabuti at nakapasok ako.

  19. The overall trend is 8-3-1 apparently in favor of GO. CONCEDE! CONCEDE! CONCEDE! Baka maawa pa ako kay Defensor, but better luck next time! Talagang Ungas!

  23. This is unacceptable. To call our dear nation a democracy during these times is laughable!

The audacity of the current administration including the high ranking officials in the Philipppine Military is downright maddening!

Trillanes, will win a seat in The Senate, and already the current administration is shaking in their boots. It doesn’t matter now whether or not they let us hear the words of Trillanes, because the Filipino People have spoken…

It is just a matter of time until Trillanes will start the reforms that is needed in this corrupt military of ours, and hopefully he will extend this reform to the rest of our nation…

  24. Spy Spy

    Ellen, quite off topic…but significant

The ISAFP is the chief election fraud operator in the country. Isafp personnel are complaining they’re utilized in such an illegal and immoral act under the orders of Gen Bangit. The arrangement was that Esperon would take the backseat and oversee the operations (to insulate him) while isafp would do the actual dirty job. Isafp officers were told by Bangit that it’s the order from malacangang.
Isafp also tapped the services of Army’s ISG, PAF’s AIG and PN’s NISF. All intelligence units of the afp. Esperon said they can’t rely on the regular forces to do it. As of now, Bangit is reporting directly to gloria.

The scheme is that isafp would be the overall handler of all cheaters. The latter would be reporting their ‘deliveries’ to Isafp’s MIG (regional office) for consolidation and as a feedback mechanism. MIG offices have tally boards in their War Room.

Wiretapping is operating 24hrs since the start of election period. Sgt Doble is still one of the wiretappers.

Isafp’s deputy is Col Boygee Pangilinan.

It’s easy to verify this report. Just find out the whereabouts of Esperon, Tolentino and Bangit right before, during, and after elections. I tell you, they were in places where they should not be there.

Protest vs political slays greets Arroyo in Japan

Japan-based human rights groups gathered for a candle light protest in front of the Philippine embassy in Tokyo Tuesday to protest the hundreds of execution-style killings carried out in the Philippines and demanded that the perpetrators be punished.

Offering flowers and putting up pictures of the many victims suspected political killings, the protestors called on Japan to push visiting Philippine President Arroyo on human rights issues.

“She has the highest record of killed opponents against her policy. And one of the most important thing we want the Japanese public to know is that this government should not be receiving official development assistance which is coming from the tax payers of the Japanese people,” said Cesar Santoyo, mission director of the Center for Japanese-Filipino Families.

The groups, including Amnesty International Japan and Human Rights Now, and handed over to the embassy a petition letter to Mrs. Arroyo, in which they urged the Philippine armed forces and national police ”to immediately stop using the policy of targeting civilian organizations and individual activists.” Arroyo also acts as commander-in-chief of the Philippine armed forces.
    http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/topofthehour.aspx?StoryId=78046

  44. Diego:

We offered flowers and lit candles for the victims of the atrocities committed by this government led by a criminal on its own people. We cannot offer them “tae.”

The Reuters and Kyodo news reports will be in all Japanese newspapers today, and that is more than enough to embarrass this creep who is here not on a state visit but on some personal trip to try to gather money from some Japanese donors maybe so she can keep her promise to pay the creeps she has made to run for her own selfish ambition.

With our parliamentarians now wary to give permission for new grants to the Philippines, I doubt if she can fulfill her promise to bring home any new ODA grants, or our government officials will answer to us for squandering our taxpayers money for this Philippine government run by a criminal.

You, guys, may try to write directly to our Prime Minister and the agency in charge of the ODA via our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Unlike officials in the Philippines, officials here are sensitive to the cries of ordinary citizens like you and me.

  45. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

We hope that the Japanese government will suspend all ODA grants until Gloria Arroyo and her rogue military are prosecuted for their crimes against humanity. She is bragging $4 Billion bacon from Japan.

  46. xanadu xanadu

Granteing that the $4 billion bacon is granted by ODA, the implementation of the supposed projects to cover it is another thing. If we may recall, there were also millions of approved loans by ADB granted to the Philippine government, but because no projects were able to take up dahil walang pondo as counterpart funds, ADB suspended the loans. Grants or loans, there’s always strings attached to it and we have had a bad history in project implementation due to corruption.

  50. Diego: She is bragging $4 Billion bacon from Japan.

Both will be pleased to hear from ordinary Filipino citizens concerned with the ODA Japan grants to the Philippines.

The truth is those granted last year were actually age old grants that took time to be released because the Japanese government has been making sure that they will not be squandered kahit na nakakalusot pa rin. They were grants promised to previous presidents not this creep who is actually reaping what others sowed. Magbabayad din siya ng mahal.
