Update:Clearing Gringo dismays prosecutors
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez today exonerated Sen.-elect Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan from all criminal culpability in connection with the 2003 Oakwood mutiny, reversing the finding of probable cause by a panel of Department of Justice prosecutors.
In a 19-page resolution on the petition for review filed by Honasan, Gonzalez said there was insufficient evidence to back the criminal information against Honasan before the Makati regional trial court.
Gonzalez, however, reaffirmed coup d’état charges against Sen.-elect Antonio Trillanes IV and other members of the so-called Magdalo group that staged the mutiny.
He said the charges against Trillanes cannot be set aside because there is “sufficient evidence that covert acts were committed during the Oakwood mutiny incident.”
Aside from the charges before Makati RTC, Trillanes is also facing a general court martial for violation of Articles of War on unbecoming conduct.
Trillanes was a naval officer when he and five other core leaders from the Magdalo group led some 300 officers and men into staging the Oakwood mutiny in 2003.
Gonzalez said that in Honasan’s case, the complainant, which is the PNP’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the PNP, failed to establish Honasan’s alleged involvement in the failed coup as instigator or playing a leading role in the Oakwood incident.
Gonzalez gave merit to Honasan’s affidavit which said he went to the hotel with Sen. Rodolfo Biazon, then Sen. Tito Sotto and then Environment Secretary Michael Defensor to persuade the mutineers to calm down.
Even the advocacy for the use of arms and violent means to achieve the ends of his National Recovery Program (NRP) is covered by petitioner’s freedom of speech, according to Gonzalez.
Honasan’s NRP, according to the military, would be the implementing plan once the Arroyo government is overthrown and a junta established.
Gonzalez acknowledged that the DOJ resolution on Honasan’s case will be perceived to have political undertones.
“We have to be prepared to defend it on its face,” he said.
When Honasan was granted bail to enable him to campaign as an independent, there was talk of Palace “accommodation” to bring him to the pro-Arroyo side.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Malacañang supports Gonzalez’ decision.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye belied talks the dropping of charges was part of supposed deal between Honasan and Malacañang.
On amnesty for Trillanes or Honasan earlier floated by Ermita, Bunye said the matter has not been discussed in the Cabinet or the security cluster.
Trillanes was quoted by GO spokesman Adel Tamano as being “unreceptive” to the idea of amnesty as this may be perceived as betrayal of the 11 million who voted for him because of his stance against corruption. – With Jocelyn Montemayor
This is not unexpected. Honasan can go with Enrile and join Gloria in her twilight zone. They will be just just part of history of a despicable past.
The emergence of Sen. Trillanes, like David in his epic battle against Goliath, is something they can’t simply ignore.
What about the tons of evidence the DoJ presented that pointed to Gringo as the mastermind? Videos, documentary evidences are now all worthless. Where does it leave the accomplices now?
The administration can deny all it wants, what is so glaring is that after Gringo cozied up to Glueria, everything seemed to favor him. Nabibibili din pala!
We could see now the all-out move of the administration to pin down Sen. Trillanes. We could see now the likes of Gonzalez, Ermita and Bunye as chorus boys with Gloria orchestrating them what and how to sing and suggesting what body language to project. But no amount of their concerted efforts will deter the spirit of Sen. Trillanes for he is now the darling of the crowd. The public is watching on their every move against Sen. Trillanes and they will be ready for any consequences. I could see something will happen. Something, to their surprise, is bound to happen.

I am not surprised at the sudden change of heart for Honasan who must have vowed to help the creep stay in power. Junking the “coup raps vs Honasan”, one can’t help but believe that Gringo did make a deal w/ Malacanan. And to think that “The Inspiration” of the Oakwood mutinee was Greg Honasan. He doesn’t seem to have any qualms about junking his men who are in detention. Unlike Senator Trillanes who has said that he would prefer to be w/ his men.

Dapat nga namang ayusin muna ng oposisyon ang kanilang hanay bago pumalaot sa pangsariling interes. Basahin din nila ang damdamin ng mga botante kung sila ang pinagkatiwalaan ng mahalagang halal.

We could see now that they can’t ignore the emergence of Sen. Trillanes in the political scene. Kahit pang-11 lang siya sa senatorial race, Sen. Villar should be wise enough that he can’t go against the so called Trillanes Tsunami. He should realize that his money can’t buy the heart and mind of those who went for Sen. Trillanes even they also voted for him. The presidency is a different ballgame.

Nung una kong mabasang iiwan mo na ang organisasyong kasama kang nagpatayog, gusto kitang pigilan dahil sa personal na pagkakilala ko kay Gringo na hindi basta iniiwan ang prinsipyo at ang laban ng Guardians na kanyang pinamumunuan ay hindi ikokompromiso para sa personal na interes lang. Iyan ang ipinagkaiba ni Gringo kina Bibit (naging customs inspector), Maligalig (naging presidente ng BASECO), Purugganan (naging undersecretary ni Gloria) at iba pang nagbenta ng prinsipyo habang inaakusahan pa rin si Gringo na “utak-pulbura” daw.
Ang problema kay Gringo, masyadong playing safe. Di tulad ng padrinog si Enrile na hayag ang posisyon sa anumang isyu, si Honasan ay nananahimik sa kasalukuyang hinalang kakampi na siya ng mga hudas. Dahil diyan, masisirang tuluyan ang kanyang kredibilidad sa tuluyang pag-iwas sa isyu.
Kaliangang magpakalalaki siya at harapin ang anumang consequence ng kanyang pagbaliktad kung tutoo man. Ang mga taong bumoto sa kaniya ay hindi maipagkakailang umasa na siya pa rin ang dating Gringong hindi kailanman sasapi sa mga tiwali, sinungaling, at mapang-api.

Kung ngayon ay inaamin nilang walang kwenta ang mga ebidensiyang ito, hindi na nila ito magagamit laban sa Magdalo at kay AT4!

He did not like to stay longer in prison unlike the Magadalos, Gen Miranda, Gen Lim, Col Querubin et all who would rather languish in their detention cells rather than strike a “deal” with the tiyanak!
Trllianes is still very idealistic. I hope that he stays this way and the system will not corrupt him. He is admirable indeed if he can show dismay with Villar’s politicking.
Trillanes is one stout hearted man who will fight for the rights he adore.

Kasabay ang pagkakabasura sa kasong rebelyon ni Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan, tuluyan na itong inalis sa listahan ng oposisyon sa pagbubukas ng 14th Congress ngayong Hulyo 23.
Kapalit ang pakiusap na huwag banggitin ang kanilang pangalan, tatlong opposition senators ang nagkumpirma na ang pagiging ‘madulas’ ni Honasan ang dahilan kung bakit tinigilan ng kanilang grupo ang pakikipag-usap dito.
Ilang araw bago naiproklama ng Commission on Elections (Comelec), nagkaroon ng sikretong pag-uusap ang ilang miyembro ng Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 71, kinabibilangan nina Honasan, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson at natalong senatorial bet Zosimo Paredes na kandidato ng Ang Kapatiran.
Sa naunang pag-uusap ng ilang miyembro ng Class 71, hinihimok si Honasan na sumama sa oposisyon at nagawa pa nitong dumalo sa ilang pagtitipon ng minority bloc sa Senado subalit bigla umanong nagbago ang pakikitungo ng retiradong colonel.
“Kasama pa namin iyan dati sa meeting pero ngayon, talagang deklaradong administration si Gringo,” anang source na itinuro si Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile bilang timon sa pagsapi ni Honasan sa administration bloc dahil “aral”, aniya, ang retiradong colonel sa itinuturing nitong ‘ama-amahan’ sa Senado.
Unang pinagdudahan ang pagpayag ng korte na makapagpiyansa si Honasan sa kabila ng kasong rebelyong kinakaharap na umano’y bahagi ng ‘secret deal’ sa Malacañang at pinakahuli ang tuluyang pagkabasura ng kaso.

I can’t quite see how Honasan can now fit into an informal Cavaliers Club with Biazon, Lacson & Trillanes as members who have all three commented that they want Schizoglo out of office. Honasan for his part has shown that after he admitted his requested meeting with Schizoglo and the subsequent Bail and all criminal culpability and dismissal in connection with the 2003 Oakwood mutiny, reversing the finding of probable cause by a panel of Department of Justice prosecutors.
The interviews Honasan give of late are to say the least negative, non-plus and meaningless since his meeting with Schizoglo wheb it seems he sold his soul to the she-devil to gain his freedom. Honasan has let so many people down, is he showing his true colors.
In fact I will go a stage further, Honasan needs watching!
may honasan rot in hell!..the man has no conviction. AT4 will have much to go through as in baptism by fire but he will be surely pass everything as he has a pure heart and passion!
