Chief presidential legal counsel Sergio Apostol, during a telephone interview yesterday said the statement of Maj. Jason Aquino amounted to influencing the AFP and the PNP not to respect the rule of law and launch rebellion against their Commander-in-Chief.
Apostol urged AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. to impose sanctions on Aquino.
“Who is this Major Aquino? I don’t know him. The media should not entertain his call nor should the media allow themselves to be used by such erring individual,” he said.
According to Apostol, Esperon being the head of the AFP should know how to respond to such call coming from some “disgruntled” groups within the military.
“Esperon should know what to do to (Aquino). He knows how to discipline the AFP,” the Arroyo lawyer said.
Aquino, like the other detainees, are accused of several violations of the Articles of War and charged with having attempted to stage the alleged Feb. 2006 coup plot.
Last Friday he called on the military, the PNP and all government employees not to allow themselves to be used as an instrument for illegal and unconstitutional purposes, such as corruption, the use of force, threat and intimidation on the people, nor go against the people.
Aquino was dismissed from the Army’s elite First Scout Rangers Regiment for allegedly distributing a pamphlet entitled “The New Order,” which bats for a change in the system of government.
The detained officer, in a note he passed on to the media during scheduled court martial proceedings in Tanay last Friday, stressed that it is the people whom the military, the police and the government officials and employees must serve, and serve well. Sherwin C. Olaes

The report of Malaya’s Victor Reyes quoted Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro saying that they are trying to establish if the statement indeed came from Aquino and what violations of the Articles of War can be filed against him since he is still subject to military law.

This horrible Apostol needs to be told in no uncertain terms that his drivels don’t make him less of a donkey’s ass.
This Bacarro is completely null and void. That he should still search in the Articles of War a violation that Maj Aquino committed for issuing a statement shows that they will still fabricate and turn every period and comma in the book of military law with which to charge Aquino. Complete waste of time, complete waste of people’s money, complete unprofessionalism, complete stupidity.
As a lt colonel, he should be aware of what violation may have been committed right away (there are basic violations, details of which may be ironed out later) if only to show that he knows what he is doing or what the AFP is doing. Hyping before media in this manner shows what an utter fool he is!
