Higher Education Chairman Romulo Neri is sore with media for seeking to drive a wedge between him and President Arroyo, Cerge Remonde, presidential management staff chief, said yesterday.
Remonde said Neri called him up around 8 a.m. yesterday to complain about the reporting on his testimony last Wednesday before the Senate that Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos offered him P200 million when he was director general of the National Economic and Development Authority to approve the $329 million national broadband contract with Chinese firm Zhong Xing Telecommunications Equipment (ZTE) Corp.
“Secretary Romy called me up this (Sunday) morning and woke me up and telling me ‘have you seen the newspaper reports?’ He was complaining that some members of the media are driving a wedge between him and the President…that some people are trying to sow intrigues,” he said.
Remonde said he told Neri to just ride out the “crisis.”
Remonde added that Neri continues to enjoy the trust and confidence of the President, dismissing suspicions that he might be on his way out after the President recently designated NEDA deputy director Augusto Santos as acting head instead of officer-in-charge.
“There’s no reason why the President will lose her trust on Secretary Romy. He has valiantly stood by the President and his country,” he said.
Cabinet secretary Ricardo Saludo said the Senate has already spent too much time on investigations which he said could delay the passage of priority bills like the 2008 budget.
“We share Senator Joker Arroyo’s concern that excessive time spent by the Senate on investigative hearings is delaying crucial legislation like the cheaper medicines bill, CARP (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) and the 2008 budget. The people deserve to know how much time is being given to these measures with direct impact on their lives, compared with the controversial probes,” he said.
“Some well-meaning citizens wonder if media coverage, not public welfare, is determining which issues get more Senate time,” Saludo said.
Talaga naman. Sa ginawa niyang pagtatakip sa magnanakaw after he took the oath “to tell the truth, nothing but the truth”, masama pa ang loob niya na binanatan siya ng media?
He expected media to praise him for making Abalos the fall guy ang saving the bigger crook that is Gloria Arroyo?

Ngayon, ang media na naman sinisisi nitong alanganin na Neri.
if not for media, that ZTE scam deal would not have reached the public. If not for Jarius Bondoc, it would have been the deal of the century that passed unnoticed by the people. And then this Neri is blaming the media? Why be sore at media? Kasalanan ba ang media kung may sore throat siya? Sa iba galing at iba ang dahilan kung bakit “sore” ang lalamunan niya. Mahilig kasing lumunok eh…lumunok ng laway.
I wonder how Senate President Villar feel about Neri’s disappointing performance at the Senate hearing. Bago ang hearing, ipinagmalaki ni Villar na magugulat na lang tayo sa sasabihin ni Neri. Villar as well as those who know Neri have vouched for this guy’s integrity. Ngayon, nasaan ang integrity ng gago?
KAHIT bali-baliktarin ng mga taga-depensa ng ZTE deal ang istorya, may mga katotohanang hindi mababali…according to Jarius Bondoc.
Sinong well-meaning citizens ang hindi galit ngayon kay Neri?
Hindi siya nagpakatao, tapos galit siya ngayon sa media e nagreport lang naman sila base sa kanyang walang-kwentang testimonya!
Ang katotohanang hindi mababali na ayaw ibulgar ni Neri ay si Gloria ang mastermind ng korapsyon sa ZTE. Maliwanag pa ‘yan sa sikat ng araw!
So, anong gagawin n’ya kung galit s’ya sa media?! ‘Magpapakalalaki’ ba s’ya ngayon at mumurahin ang media?! Dare!

Media daw when the only semi-non-friendly articles I read on Neri were in Tribune and Malaya only. The others were mostly nakikisayaw lang, alanganin din gaya ni Neri. Kaya ano ang sinasabi ng Malacanang after the unano returned from the US na galit si Neri sa media? Baka galit doon sa mga bloggers ni Ellen that I bet you she must have read on the plane back to Manila! Tapos ginalugad siguro ang cyberspace and noted the articles posted by those who have featured even the Neripuwet ng manok picture!
Lesson from this—Don’t stop. Ituloy ang pakikibaka sa blog ni Ellen!

Galit talaga si Neri sa media dahilan sa picture niyang nakalimbag dito na siya nating naging inspirasyon sa Ellenville upang putaktihin siya ng lahat na klaseng pag-alimura. Ngayon, mistula siyang isang isang babaeng dalahira. Ang picture niyang parang pwet ng manok na pinalaganap ng media na una kong tinawag na larawan ng pinakamagandang lalakwe sa balat ng lupa noong hindi pa uso ang tao, kasama na ang hayop. Laganap ngayon sa text messaging ang picture na yan ni Neri, palipat lipat sa mga celphone na siyang tampulan ng katatawanan pero may kakambal na pagkasuklam.
Sa palagay ko, hindi lang si Neri “sore at media”. Mayroon na rin siyang sore eyes sa kaiiyak dala ng walang patumanggang panglalait sa kanya. O kay lupit ng kapalarang sasapit kay Romulo Neri.

with all this talk about Neri’s sexual preference here … i would imagine he was sore because he’d much rather have a much bigger wedge driven someplace in his anatomy.

Nakuha ko ang photo ni puwet sa Tribune. Ang ganda kasi ng picture na nilagay ni Ellen doon sa naunang article niya na hindi naman bagay. Then, by chance, nakita ko ang picture niya sa Tribune.
