The amount of Sanctuary Fund should at least match the P10 Million price tag on Jun Lozada’s head by Malacanang.
It’s amazing to see how fast we were able to raise funds for Jun Lozada and other ‘future’ witnesses through the Sanctuary Fund. That was an honorable undertaking the religious has started.
But let’s face the other realities. There are millions of people who are impoverished, hungry, homeless and marginal by many standards.
Why don’t we just give the funds to these poor people instead of investing this huge amount for the benefit of only one, or probably, a handful?
I am not in favor of the corruption and graft that exists in our government …. but wouldn’t you rather help feed the hungry and the under-privileged? I wonder what the poor people are saying and thinking as we brag about the Sanctuary Fund. Why not give instead to the ‘Pondo ng Pinoy’ for those coins? I think the religious and the public should be more receptive and reactive to the needs of these poor people. God will be more pleased with our efforts and gestures, and not simply pleasing individuals or groups who have tinges of personal motives or vendetta.

There are already in fact a lot many charities for the poor and needy. A lot many of them in fact are Catholics who should be under the care of the priests and nuns who are beneficiaries of the PSCO and games board. It is not always, however, that we get to help in such fund as the Sanctuary Fund that wil encourage beleaguered men willing to tell the truth like Lozada whose assets may even be freezed by this criminal government!
Sa totoo lang, the Catholic Charities get a big share of the fast offerings we give for charity when we do our fasting especially on the first Sunday of each month in our church, where none of our leaders is a charity beneficiary.
Hopefully, the money, etc. we give do not get to be used by the priests for their own subsidies!
I think by ignoring those deserving of help and assistance (poor, hungry, homeless, etc) and instead creating this sanctuary fund to benefit one or a handful —is quite hypocritical. Sure,there are charities looking into the marginalized’s needs … but when do EACH ONE OF US really help them? And yet, we are quick to contribute to this sanctuary fund?

I just feel sorry for the attitude that some of us have. I’d rather give to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. I cry and ache for what they are seeing now … nagkakandarapa sa fund-raising while they scrounge through garbage cans for food, beg for food …
I dislike graft and corruption and hope that the truth will come out …but I won’t spare a single centavo to give to the sanctuary fund. But I wouldn’t have second thoughts of sparing up to 10% of what I have for those who TRULY NEED HELP!
