When public high school sophomores get the new Social Studies textbook next week, they will be holding in their hands what could be a source of a diplomatic irritant: the book mentions Taiwan as a “country” separate from the People’s Republic of China, in violation of the one-China policy which the Philippine government upholds.
The error apparently went unnoticed by its authors–17 professors from the University of the Philippines, some of them with Ph.D.s–and the Department of Education, a government entity supposedly conscious of the one-China policy.
But the error has already caused a stir. In late April, Chinese customs authorities seized one shipment of about 400,000 copies of the textbook, which were printed in China, and threatened to destroy them unless the error was corrected.
The book in question is the 492-page Araling Panlipunan II textbook, Asya: Pag-usbong ng Kabihasnan (Asia: Birth of Civilization), produced by the Vibal Publishing House and printed by the Ningbo Binbin Stationery Company based in Ningbo in Zhejiang province, China.

Mas accurate pa iyung Philippine History book na bigay ni Jun Lozada doon sa blog ko na ang title ay Gloria Labandera.-
In soon to publish Lozada’s book co-authored by a Nun in the Run, Mike Defensor is arguing with their lopsided decision of historians should give everyone pause. Contrary to popular stereotypes, historians are generally a cautious bunch and Nuns. They assess the past from widely divergent points of view and are deeply concerned about being viewed as fair and accurate by there colleagues.When they make historical judgments, they are acting not as Pontious Pilates or even pundits, but as San Beda scholars they must evaluate all the evidence, good, bad or indifferent,perceived as conservatives as well as liberals, show remarkable unanimity about who the best and worst presidents have been. Lozada can bet his P50,000 on that, and he can hit a jackpot on slot machine. The next Filipino generation who go in high school within few years might be expected to call Gloria,Gloria Labandera the worst president since her father a poor boy from Lubao. Her reputation sink so low. The reasons are best understood as the reverse of those that produce presidential greatness like Monching and Cory.
No sweat at all. Just stick an errata on the books. Unless we continue to nurture the usual habit of commerce where errors are big business. Intentional or otherwise by misfits extends breeding of confused children forever that do not fall squarely to the demands of progress above the hand in other peoples’ pocket to mouth existence.
I wonder what the textbook says about Tibet.

Frankly, I don’t see anything wrong with this claim according to Philippine view, for the fact is majority of the people of Taiwan are not agreeable to joining Mainland China. The native of the islands themselves in fact do not regard themselves as Chinese but Taiwanese, who were at one time or another subjects of Japan.
That’s the problem with Filipinos not learning yet to stand on their own, and continue to quiver at the voice of high and mighty nations like China. Worse is when they have printing of textbooks to be used in public schools done in China and allow the Chinese to bully them into what and what they should not teach.
Puede ba, iyong mga tamad sa Pilipinas, research muna sila so that they cannot be bullied by bullies into agreeing what and what not to teach Filipino kids. Kaya tuloy sila nabobobo e. Gago!

Sa totoo lang kung ibabase sa claim ng mga Chinese, puede na rin nilang angkinin ang Pilipinas lalo na ang isla ng Luzon.

Pag di natanggal ang ungas, baka kasyasayan ng Pilipinas baguhin niya. Iyong nuno niya halimbawa baka gawin pang national hero kahit na kilalang-kilalang traydor na naging dahilan kung bakit tinawag na dugong aso ang mga kapampangan. Iyong ngang kasaysayan ng Marikina niretoke na ng mga Pidal na lahing banal daw. Iyong pala jueteng lord!!! Yuck!!!
Instead of school uniform, he should look into the corerctness of textbooks. Imagine, nag-aaral ka mali pala ang pinag-aaralan mo.
Tama ka Gabriela, diyan sila magagaling, sa trivial matters na wa epek naman. Siguradong babawiin din yang uniform policy na iyan pag nagsimula nang pumasok ang mga estudyanteng nakalabas ang mga pusod na may piercings at nakalitaw yung mga tattoo sa ibabaw ng thongs.
