All 23 senators, including incarcerated Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, signed resolution opposing charter change without concurrence of the Senate being pushed by allies of Gloria Arroyo in the House of Representatives.

Arroyo spokesperson: Let’s talk

In today’s anti- Gloria Arroyo, anti- charter change rally, two of the messages to be read are that of detained officers, Brig. Gen. Danny Lim of the Army Scout Rangers and Marine Col.Ariel Querubin.

Lim and Querubin, together with 26 other officials including Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda, have been in detention for almost three years. They have been charged with mutiny for allegedly planning to withdraw support from Gloria Arroyo following the “Hello Garci” expose that showed Arroyo masterminding the tampering of election results in her favor with the help of some military officials.

Lim’s message was released last Nov. 29 to mark the second anniversary of Manila Pen incident where he, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and other Magdalo officers made a stand against the unabated corruption in the Arroyo government.

I’m reproducing here in full Lim’s message titled, “Not only to listen but to march” because it has become more relevant with the brazen attempts of Arroyo to tamper with the Constitution for her to continue staying in power forever.

Lim’s message:

We are a nation divided. Peace, unity and development continue to elude us because we have a president bereft of moral or legal authority to lead. She had, in fact, become the greatest continuing threat to the security, cooperative spirit, well being and sense of Nationhood of the Filipino people.

“A true leader is a symbol of unity and a rallying figure especially in difficult times. A bogus leader is divisive and stays in power to the detriment of the common good and the National interest.

“GMA continues to inflict herself on our hapless people. In the process, scarce government resources are squandered to buy for her dubious loyalties, institutions are prostituted to project a sham imprimatur to an immoral governance, public service has evolved into a buffet of graft and corruption, and morals, values, accountability and responsibility have been reduced to mere flamboyant phrases. She destroyed the very concept of truth as the foundation of every act of government.

“We find the country today in deep turmoil. Oppression, corruption and injustice rule the benighted land. Internecine struggles threaten to dismantle the republic. Widespread poverty robs people of their dignity and drives many to prostitution and virtual slavery in foreign climes. Hunger incidence is at an all time high and the country’s human development index is at an all time low. No wonder, an atmosphere of destitution pervades among our normally resilient and patient people. All of these were brought about by 8 years of unelected, hopelessly corrupt leadership and a slew of failed liberal economic and peace policies.

“Long starved of good governance, the Filipino people should act now to reclaim their dignity, remove the pretender from power and steer this nation on the path to greatness. I echo, loud and clear, the call for radical reforms and restructuring. The call of the times is for us NOT ONLY TO LISTEN BUT TO MARCH.

“November 30, is National Heroes Day. Let us recapture the visions and ideals of our heroes and martyrs and give justice to their golden dream of National independence.

“This country needs a leader of heroic and nationalist stature who would champion genuine independence in every aspect of our national life. He or she must be committed to challenging colonial economic masters and their local surrogates, abandoning obscene foreign debt payment policies, pushing industrialization, agriculture productivity and sustainable agrarian reforms, ensuring food and energy independence, and formulating a sound economic strategy anchored on the declaration that this country’s patrimony and all of our abundant resources are solely for the Filipinos to develop and benefit from. The current President is the antithesis of that leader. For her personal aggrandizement, she was willing to sacrifice the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by dismembering the Republic in the case of the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity and the baseline issue, west of our archipelago.

“The latest Malacanang sponsored machinations are designed to extend GMA’s discredited regime. Secretary Dureza’s prayer and the feigned reaction revealed it all. With no semblance of delicadeza, no less than her son is doing the rounds, spearheading a signature campaign that would eventually actualize their foul design. With a subservient congress which frustrates the impeachment process at every turn and some Supreme Court justices willing to do their biddings, then their coast is clear, our political fate is sealed. I dread the thought that our best bet is for GMA to die of old age.

“Now is the time to grip hands and act! Enough is enough!”

Querubin, a medal of valor awardee, the highest military award given to a soldier, says, “Helplessly watching events unfold from my prison cell has been painful. But knowing that a great number of Filipinos are also fighting this noble cause, risking your lives in the streets, is a source of great inspiration, and strength. “

Querubin has a special message to the people,

“As you fight it out, remember that your soldiers are here, quietly watching, and silently waiting to be called upon as THE PROTECTORS OF THE PEOPLE.

“Continue the struggle! Your Armed Forces will protect you from the Forces of darkness who might be out there to harm you. As soldiers worthy of the honor of those who fought and died to defend this country, we will be fulfilling our constitutional mandate as the protectors of the people. You are the people. It is you that we will protect.”

Finally, this is what i’m waiting from our concerned Senators…their allegiance to the constitution and loyalty to the constitution must be first and formost to protect against con-ass lobbyists.

Huli man daw at may katwiran e katanggap-tangap pa rin, but you need to reform yourselves ng matuwa naman ang bayan.

We are ver proud to ALL of you SIR/Hon. Gen.

Hail the modern heroes…GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

That’s my hero. Mabuhay Gen. Danny Lim!

Yep, my hero is not scared of throwing rocks at evil Gloria from his prison cell. Tunay na sundalo, tunay na matapang!

Thanks very much for the inspiration, Col Querubin. We know that the Tanay boys are solidly behind us in this fight, and when called upon, you will carry us through.

    We will prevail!

People need to be clarified. The Senators are not against the Cha-Cha per se but against Con-Ass. Some senators prefer Con-Con. Con-Ass or Con-Con…isn’t it Cha-Cha just the same?

  8. balweg balweg

    Chi/I_M,

Well, Gen. Lim and co. are the real heroes and patriotic soldiers of our mother land excluding yong mga kurap na generals problem.

  9. balweg balweg

Korek BE, but the real point is…most of these senators are against con-ass and it doesn’t matter if they will pursue the con-con but after 2010?

Ang concern nating lahat e to prevent the lapdogs of gloria arroyo y macapagal to amend the constitution right-away kasi nga tapos ang maliligayan araw before 2010.

“Let’s talk”, Lie Fajardo said. NO! NO! NO! No talk! Fool yourselves, we don’t care!

It’s a welcome news that this time all 23 Senators are on the same page.

  11. Aside from the usual groups (Bayan,Akbayan, Concerned Citizens Movement, Black and White, Partido ng Masang Pilipino, United Opposition) the Liberal Party will be joining the rally for the first time.

Another first timer is the Nationalista Party.

Former Cavite Rep. Gilbert Remulla issued a statement, “NP will join the Friday anti-chacha rally.”

The Nacionalista Party headed by party President Manny Villar will participate in the inter-faith anti-charter change rally this Friday.

Party members believe current efforts to change the Constitution are untimely and will further destabilize an already unstable nation.

Hundreds of party supporters and allies are set to attend the rally as well.

  12. bitchevil bitchevil

Actually, many politicians including the majority of the senators agree to Cha-Cha only if it’s after 2010. The trouble with these Malacanang allied crooks is that they keep insisting it be done know simply to extend the Bitch’s term. That’s one thing people don’t allow.

  13. Gabriela Gabriela

  14. Gabriela Gabriela

Salamat Gen. Danny Lim. Salamat, Col. Ariel Querubin.

    Salamat Sen. Sonny Trillanes.

  15. chi chi

That was another welcome news, Ellen.

Con-con, Con-Ass…the same dog only different collars under Gloria. Ang tagal nang hindi ginagalaw ang Pinas Konsti, makakahintay ang amendments after Gloria is gone.

Thanks Gen. Esperon, thanks Gen. Palparan, thanks Gen. Yano…said the Evil Bitch.

About sa magigiting na Tanay Boyz eh tayo ang kanilang kalakasan kaya they are still alive and kicking.

Vindication para sa ating lahat is very coming soon!

May the Lord bestow His Blessings for the success of tomorrows rally!

  20. Mike Mike

Seems like some of Gloria’s allies are singing a different tune already. They are for con-con and not con-ass. These guys like Cuenco and even Nogi are now saying they are for con-con. NPC of rainbow coalition also came out with their con-con stand.
    Hmm… abandoning ship????

  21. Mike Mike

These (former/untrustworthy) allies of Gloria must know something we don’t know… ehem… let me rephrase it.. allies of Gloria now know something that we already knew long before.

  22. Mike Mike

Makes me want to think that the “tsismis” that FG lost big time in Lehman Bros, etc.. and is being investigated for money laundering activities in the US is really true. No more money to give away, no more honey (for tongressmen).

  23. Mike Mike

Looks like their plan for con-ass cum term extension back-fired. Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas!!! 😀

  24. bitchevil bitchevil

I’m beginning to believe that Malacanang knew all along that their insistence on Cha Cha would encounter strong opposition and fail; but just the same they went on with it. Maybe they were testing the water or a diversionary tactic to hide other scandals. Take note that we don’t hear much of ZTE, Northrail, Euro General and now Bolante has been surprisingly released by the Senate. The reason for Bolante’s release: Humanitarian reason. Is he the kind of person that should receive such humanitarian consideration? Is he sick? Is he innocent? He refused to testify and escaped to the US and caught. He returned and faked illness. He kept lying and evading questions thrown to him.
And now they released him on humanitarian ground? Another alleged argument is that perjury charge has been file with DOJ? And what did Gonzalez say? He said he would not touch it until the Senate concluded its investigation. Here, we see Malacanang using Gordon to connive with Gonzalez again.

  25. Mike Mike

Probably, but I still believe that this con-ass is for term extension, not only for Gloria but also for tongredsmen who’re on their last term also. Survival mode in high gear, without “political” power, they’ve no more place to run too, no sanctuary for them to hide. They just couldn’t imagine themselves behind bars.

  26. bitchevil bitchevil

A change of constitution like to Parliamentary Form would allow the Evil Bitch to become Prime Minister. The survival of PM lies on the support of the members of the Parliament who shall more or less be composed by these same Congressmen. Since most of them are allies of the Bitch and controlled by her, she is safe as PM. If she could bribe her way to power and remain in power with too many people to please; she only has to feed the members of the Parliament which is easier. Makes sense?

  27. Elvira Elvira

    Right BE,

Too much na!

    Tuloy ang rally bukas!

  28. Let’s give credit to the senators. Finally, a unanimous resolution in a long time. The senators released Bolante not due to some dubious scheming but because of the Supreme Court order to Gordon and Enrile to produce and accompany him to the next habeas corpus hearing. The release is inevitable since it would be demeaning for senators to be admonished in the SC which is supposed to be a co-equal. This is a face-saving, self-preserving move and it renders the SC order moot and academic.

  29. I commend Gen. Lim for a well-written piece. Though it has already appeared in this blog before, it still keeps the fervor burning. These guys are really focused, of course incarceration helps in that manner. What shouldn’t be missed, however, is the clear and strong message: Put your lazy, fat asses in the streets, you cowards, and you can be sure your soldiers will be there for you!

Ditto for Col. Querubin’s message. It has been the same message since Oakwood and Manila Pen.

If you don’t come out and throw your support, then you deserve Gloria! – Lt. SG Antonio Trillanes, PN

  30. What I blogged here a few threads back about the joining of forces of the opposition, NP, and LP, which are both allied with Gloria, are now all falling into place. What is left is JDV’s faction in the Lakas-Kampi monochromatic “rainbow” coalition that hasn’t shown it’s hand yet. It is an interesting and encouraging development.

So what are you waiting for, Christmas? It’s about time we give the country the best Christmas gift it ever had – oust the bitch!

    SANTA not SATAN!

Show guts like those at the Thai airports, the Greece students or the Mumbai factor. That should do the trick. Imagine both sides pray to the same god and that god thinks badly of the oppositions always. Di niya yata kilala ang mga CBCP. And we sing the same tune “…alab ng puso, sa dibdib mo ay buhay lupang hinirang, duyan ka ng magiting sa manlulupig, di ka pasisiil…” but they have more gun bores and prodigious numbers everywhere.

We may find it difficult to rally the support of our soldiers who remain in the den.

    Kung hindi tayo kikilos, sino?
    Kung hindi ngayon, kailan?

  34. Incidentally, Ding Lichauco’s column today reiterates Gen. Lim’s call. He also hints that the brave soldiers in Tanay and the Marine Brig are those whom the Bishops recently referred to as the “liberators” together with all the other young officers, and could probably include even Yano and Luna.

I agree with him when he says it took military generals to reform the countries of Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand and turn them into booming economies while we, the only “democracy” in Asia, moonwalked backwards to destitution and despair.

It is about time we all grip hands and act! Nabasa din siguro ng mga presidentiables na senators ang mga blog natin dito that if they want to show that they are for the people, they should join the crusade against this con-ass that the tongressmen are pushing for.

To General Lim, Col Querubin, Sen Trillianes, the Magdalos, your undying cause is shared by many of us! You are not alone in your fight!

I am praying for a good turn out on the street protests today. May God be with us in liberating our country from the evil forces gripping us for 8 yrs now!

Acts made well beyond the call of duty makes a hero. Gen. Lim, Querubin, Miranda, Trillanes and all members of their group in my opinion fit into that criterion.

Pacquiao brings honor to the country but that does not make him a hero. Many called him as such and I may be inviting various reactions here but that’s just how I see it and I don’t care.

The facts: The officers as well as Pacquaio took up their careers on their own choices. They met all challenges with skills, courage and competence. Pacquaio used his skills exclusively to earn a living for himself, his family and not for anybody else. On the other hand these officers risked their lives to serve the people and country, and even went the extra mile in attempting to lead the people to seek government reforms against a tyrant who plunged this country into the abyss of unbridled corruption. That is not supposed to be in the list of their duties and responsibilities yet they placed it upon themselves for the noble purpose of having not only a clean and responsible but a government that truly cares for the masses, which leads them to where they are now, in jail.

There’s no doubt Pacquiao made us feel proud but please reserve the description “hero” for those who willingly make sacrifices and do acts well beyond their call of duty.
That’s for the Tanay Boys and the Magdalos

Strength of the studentry at Edsa 1 & 2 were mostly from Catholic Schools called upon by the late Cardinal Sin…if you know what I’m trying to say. Not only them…but priests, nuns, seminarians. Today, Catholics are much more divided as ever.

Are we looking at a reformed and mellowed Enrile? That’s what it looks like and I like what’s going on in the Senate. Maybe Enrile bashers now have second thoughts about him. It’ doesn’t matter to me personally even if he reverts to his old ways as long as it has nothing to do with Gloria’s con-ass. The future depends upon this con-ass and it’s a good thing that all the senators unite against it. Now maybe everybody can sleep a good night’s sleep knowing that a senate resolution against con-ass had been unanimously signed.

Just a thought, under a Villar senate leadership, will he be able to form a unanimous and united front?

Here’s my opinion on why the Senate will Oppose Chacha. This is not to say I am against Chacha during Gloria or after Gloria. As we all know, Chacha’s provision is ” free trade” “opening up” to foreign direct investment that could potentially employ the many unemployed but will probably hurt the many businesses that some of our Senators own in the private Sector:

Political Dynasty and Conflict of Interest within the system is called Abuse of Power…

“In the Senate, out of 23 elected senators only 4 declared no relatives in the government, past and present. I do not know why Pia Cayetana remarked once that there is no political dynasty in the Philippines when all she had to do is to look at her seatmate brother.”

Since Gloria knows all along how corrupt her government is, I don’t think she is powerful enough to change our system of political dynasty, conflict of interest and abuse of power. The next president will be managing this country as he/she is used to…

Political Dynasty is not bad per se as long they perform and serve the people well.

Whatever asiandelight, it’s your free will to express your feeling towards them…but our main goal right now is to prevent and protect the amendment of our constitution by con-ass of these corrupt tongresman?

RECIPIENTS OF THE 728 MILLION FERTILIZER FUND

It is so frustrating to fight for our country to the benefits of the many when people are being lied to. Worst, the Justice system is the weakest link. It cannot send guilty people to jail. This department is also sold out.

It doesn’t matter if Chacha will not get approval. The long battle remains to be ahead of us. Yes , it’s good that Chacha must be debated for a long time. It’s the only way that we all grow and learn from all of our mistakes. Vote for the right person. Be vigilant about their business affair. Inside information on government contracts can easily turn into abuse of power. I don’t believe on who you know or what you know. I believe on positive results that each of these “mga gago” have not been able to deliver. Gloria on the other hand cannot change all that. She will create enemies and will never get her money. She is so weak and easily get corrupted or the other way around. She is going with the flow against the people’s will. Poor Gloria and Poor Pinoy.

We have a system and design already installed within our Constitution but the problem is, our country do not have good operators to operate the system. They are all for money. If we stop complaining, then we are tolerating them.

  65. balweg balweg

    Balweg,

it’s not only 7 years , this has started long time ago. Political Dynasty in 1987 has never been given priority for change by the Legislator- The Senate.

Please Read New York Times 1987. 21 years of ignoring a problem within the system.

  68. asiandelight asiandelight

    Bitchevil,

Political Dynasty is very bad for our country. Policymaking are easily influence. In addition, they have all access to information of what would be a profitable business for their own interest. Regulation in terms of government contracts, permitting, licensing, zoning restrictions , justice ( prosecution if found guilty) and even auditing can easily be manipulated. This is abuse of power. The investment climate for this country is very poor.

  69. balweg balweg

Korek me if i’m hallucinating ha?

    FYI, (off-topic)

GMA, oil firms ‘colluding to overprice gasoline’

Is Gloria Arroyo colluding with the Big 3 oil firms to overprice fuel? Sen. Mar Roxas thinks so. And he might be on the way to uncovering a big stink.

World crude oil prices have fallen to 2003-2004 levels, Roxas notes. At an import exchange rate of P49:$1, this means the diesel pump price should be P24 a liter. But it is selling 50 percent higher at P36. And Arroyo, known for micromanaging items like EDSA traffic or Pacquiao’s motorcade, uncharacteristically is doing nothing about costly fuel. By implication she’s favoring Petron, Shell and Chevron that control 92 percent of the market.

In contrast, retail prices in Southern California, among the highest in the US, fell Friday to $16.50 a gallon of regular unleaded. Translated into pesos and liters, that’s about P21.50. Yet gasoline in the Philippines is P36 a liter.

    Balweg,

you are always correct. But I believe in sound management, ethics and good governance as the basis for economic growth.

If we have to consider the link above about gasoline prize, that is another issue of abuse of power, were high profile in office is controlling and influencing import and export PRICE level. I am sure that oil businesses are also in business with our system. The same thing in the US but, in the US we have laws that work.

  74. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Tyranny of political dynasties is deeply imbedded in our society. They protect their interests by occupying public offices. Politicos dictate national policies, manipulate laws in their favor. There’s no remarkable change since the colonial era. The 1987 Philippine Constitution prohibits political dynasties. It’s toothless without Congress to pass a law on political dynasty. Many law makers (senatongs-tongressmen) belong to political dynasties.

in pinas political dynasties emerged from the barrel of guns.this started after the second world war when guerilla leaders did not return their weapons but instead built their political bases on it.now of course they have other weapons, much more agile and deadly.the govt ought to remove weapons of politicians, it is only thus that dynasties will end.

  77. bitchevil bitchevil

What about Religious Dynasty? Who shall succeed Bro. Mike Velarde, Ka Erdie Manalo, Bro. Eddie Villanueva…when they die?

  78. norpil norpil

i think religious movements depends very much on the charisma and managerial ability of the leaders, i.e., very personal characteristics such that the continuity in their dynasties also depends on their successors personalities.there will always be power plays on who will be their successors.

  79. bitchevil bitchevil

INC’s Manalo already has a successor…his son, Edwardo Manalo. When the elder Felix Manalo died, INC’s detractors predicted the fall of INC. But the exact opposition happened.
INC grew to other parts of the world. That only proves that sometimes, the family name plays a very important part in an organization’s continued existence. We are not certain if the same would happen to El Shaddai, JIL and other religious groups.

  80. parasabayan parasabayan

The rally was attended by different groups and it was peaceful! That was a good start. I am also very happy to see the senators there. These presidentiables, no matter how many they are have to start standing up for “something”! It is good that some of them even spoke out loud. At least we can get to see who they are early on.

  81. parasabayan parasabayan

Tigasin talaga itong si midget! All she needs is to tell her tongressmen to stop the cha-cha but NO! Now, the nog-nog(Nograles) will go to the the grassroots daw to know the people’s sentiments! These vultutures do not know how to stop!

  84. Iyong mga kakilala kong politician, ang sabi OK sila sa amendment lang, not complete change of the Constitution para lang maging reyna si Gloria Tapalani. Pero itong mga alyado ni pandak, for the love of money, gustong ibasura iyong faulty 1987 Constitution.

    Kawawang Pilipinas!

Pero sabi nga sa Scripture, “The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.”

    Yuko,
