Noynoy Aquino and I share the same outrage over the mess we are all in, the same way we share solution – clean, honest, selfless public service.
Marami at matindi and nga problem ng bansa. Kailangan nating ayusin. Matindi ang kalaban. We need a determined force for good far stroinger than the festering evil around us.
We need to fight just as our own fathers fought dictatorship, and just as both died believing that good will conquer evil.
Noynoy and I want to make a difference, but we also know that we need to unite to achieve what we want.

It is within my power to preside over a potentially divisive process or to make the party a bridge for the forces of change. I choose to lead unity, not division. Bilang pinuno ng aking Partido, magdedesisyon ako.
Mahal ko ang Partido Liberal. My grnadfather founded it. My father led it during the most difficult times of martial Law. Sa harap ng peligro, sa kabila ng napakaraming tukso – hindi siya sumuko.
He inspired me – to stay the course, to fight the good fight, to pass the test of true character. To believe.
Over the weekend, Noynoy and I had many long covmersations. Masinsinang usapan. We agreed: Let us forget about ourselves for a moment. This is not about us, this is about our people and our country. This is about our common dream. The dream of our parents.
But let us not remain a country of dreamers. Tama na ang pangarap. Gawin na natin, ngayon.
Today, I am announcing my support for the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino for Preisdent in 2010.
Noy has made it clear to me that he wants to carry the torch of leadership.
The passing of our beloved fomer President Aquino has reawakened a passion among us. I acknowledge this as fuel to bring us to the realization of our dream:Good will triumph over evil.
Today I am making the most difficult decision in my political career. I do this for the Filipino people. I do this for unity behind change. And if that means that somebody must make the sacrifice, then I decided it must be me, and me alone.
To you Noy, I say: I began the campaign to sow the seeds of change. You must now be the one to grow them in the area of leadership.
And I will stand with you. Hindi kami maghihiwalay ni Noy!

Mar Roxas – a true servant leader
Since 2005 the Filipino people have seen too many leaders excuse ambition on the basis of pragmatism. We have had leaders who turned their backs on idealism on the pretext that there is only one way to gain and hold on to power. However, since then, our people have yearned for leaders prepared to sacrifice ambition to answer the call of duty, who listen to public opinion as an alternative to confusing or buying the electorate.
Senator Manuel Roxas II could not have said it better – country above self. The Black and White Movement salutes Senator Roxas for his statesmanship and selflessness. Senator Mar has demonstrated tonight that his ultimate objective is to be a servant leader by being prepared to follow even at the cost of his campaign to lead the country. We have not seen a leader sacrifice his or her political interests in this manner since Cory Aquino in 1985. This is a reminder for all of us that when country comes first, all other decisions and considerations easily follow.
“I can only imagine how agonizing it must have been for Senator Mar to make this difficult decision. He is blessed with a great sense of nation above self. I sincerely admire him and believe that the Filipino people feel the same way”, says lead convener Enteng Romano.

I’m surprised! Very, very surprised. Kudos to Senator Mar Roxas for giving up and sacrificing his dream to become the president of the Philippines. I’m expecting some criticisms and belittling not only from Gloria’s camps, but from the so called opposition presidential aspirants as well. But no amount of brickbats from these people will lessen my respect to Sen. Roxas.
Now, a challenge to the other opposition aspirants. Can you do a Roxas or a Laurel for that matter for the sake of unity? For country above self like what Sen. Roxas as well as the late VP Laurel? Shame to all of you if not.

While Gloria has done everything to make Philippines look bad & as a result demoralized a nation, the Filipinos must have done good things to deserve a Ninoy & Cory Aquino, & even a decent public servant like Senator Mar Roxas.

I’m not impressed. Umpisa pa lang nagsinungaling na with his statement above, “Country above self. Bayan bago ang sarili. Iyan ang habilin ng aking lolo, President Manuel Roxas.”
Why? It was because his grandfather died in 1948 and he was born in 1957, so how could his grandfather have told him so? I would have been impressed if he said it was what he really felt, not what his grandfather could not have told him straight; that his own father could have been told but failed in that respect.
Akala ko ba ayaw na ng mga pilipino ng mga political dynasty? E bakit sinusulong iyong anak ni Ninoy at Cory? Komo ba namatay ang nanay niya?

I asked my mother how it was during Mar Roxas’ grandfather’s reign. She said it was no better than today’s reign of the Dorobo because it was likewise gripped by scandals here and there, especially the Surplus War Property scandal, the Chinese immigration scandal and the School supplies scandal plus its failure to curb graft and corruption.

Well, for whatever reasons… Mar is now out of the race. But I still admire this selfless act of his.

Imposibleng nakapagbilin pa ang lolo ni Mars sa tatay, et al niya. Kasi namatay si Manuel Roxas of a stroke. Di na nakapagsalita sabi ng mga nakapanood sa kaniya after a speech. Natumba na lang daw as he felt dizzy, and went into a coma.
Roxas’ administration was nothing glorious and impressive according to my mother, who is still very much alive to counter any glorious statements about an inglorious administration that was in fact marred by graft and corruption. By 1947, there were a lot may people complaining about conditions similar to what Filipinos are presently experiencing giving rise to a widespread peasant disaffection enough for a disgruntled impoverished barber even tried to take Roxas’ life by trying to hurl a grenade immediately after the President addressed the rally of citizens at Plaza Miranda.
In fact, a lot many of the problems Filipinos now have had their roots in the Roxas administration circa 1946-48 with him granting more privileges and rights to Americans than to his fellow Filipinos who were left wallowing in their poverty and grief!
Nagkaniya-kaniya ng nakawan ang mga ungoy sabi ng nanay ko. Pati iyong mga back-pay ng mga sundalo nawala! Kaya puede ba, tama na iyong mga ride-ons sa mga pangalan ng mga lolo, at mga magulang nila. Di bale kung talagang malinis di naman gaya noong yabang noong magnanakaw tungkol sa tatay niyang iniwanan ang mga pilipino ng katakot-takot na utang.

Some see Noynoy as soft and mama’s boy. Tongue and I see him as not ready for the presidency and walang agresibong nagawa sa Senate so far.
I won’t touch on his personality dahil hindi naman siya bipolar na gaya ni Gloria. His honesty is a plus as far as I’m concerned.
Although I agree that Noynoy is somewhat “hilaw pa”, but looking around and seeing those wannabe’s faces, geez mas gusto ko na ang hilaw kaysa sa mga sobrang hinog pero malapit ng mabulok. 😛
Sino ang gusto ko sa mga unggoy na sinusulong ng mga kurakot? Wala! Kasi iyong gusto ko, bata pa raw! Pero siya subok nang may pagmamahal sa bansa niya, di lang kasi sinabi ng lolo niya! 😛
Meanwhile, habang nagkakagulo iyong mga unggoy na gustong pumalit kay Gloria Dorobo para sila naman ang makanakaw, hihintayin ko na lang muna na dumating sa edad iyong manok ko. Who knows? Baka dumating ang panahon na magkaroon ng presidente ang Pilipinas na katulad ni Hugo Chavez ng Venezuela sa sabi ng isang amiga kong Venezuelan ay tunay na magaling daw. Si Chavez ay isa ring dating career military officer na nakulong dahil nilabanan niya ang corrupt na sistema sa bansa niya kaya alam na alam niya ang gagawin niya nang makaupo siya sa puwesto niya ngayon.
Mike, mahirap makipagsapalaran. Tama si Tongue at Chi. Wala pa naman nagagawang tunay para sa bayan si Noynoy sa hinaba-haba ng pag-upo niya sa Senado na pinakinabangan ng lahat. Sabi nga ng mga taga Tarlac mismo, ingatan daw iyong kanilang Kamag-anak Inc.
Mabuhay ang Tunay na Pilipino!
Matagal-tagal na rin akong nagbabasa at paminsan-minsan nagbibigay ng kuro-kuro sa websayt na ito. Isa akong ordinaryong Pinoy na nagnanais ng tunay na pagbabago para sa bayan. Ngayon ko tuluyang natanto na halos lahat sa atin ay pansarili ang inuuna.
Kung si Mar ay papuri ang tinatanggap at si Noynoy ay panlalait at pang-aalipusta, wala na talagang matinong kinabukasang nahihinitay sa bansa.
Bakit nga ba nagparaya si MAR? Kung si Mar ay nagsakripisyo sa kanyang personal na ambisyon, yon ay sa dahilang di maka-usad ang kanyang PADYAK. Mismong sa Araneta Center ang PADYAK ay kanilang ipinagbabawal. Ang PADYAK ay simbolo ng kawalan ng pag-asa at kawalang asensyo. Di kayang ipanalo ng PADYAK si Mar sa 2010. Kaya tuluyan syang bumaba.
Si Noynoy ba ay walang kakayahan? HINDI PORKE’T HINDI NYA KAYANG MAGNAKAW AY HINDI NA NYA KAYANG MAMUNO NG BANSA.

I admire the act of Mar. It was both noble and practical.
If it takes a Noynoy to oust the evil gloria and her minions from this bankrupt government after June 30, 2010 or before, so be it. Villar, erap, de castro etc are all TRAPOS, walang mapapala ang inang bayan dyan. Noynoy may not have all the qualities of a strong leader but the nation is safe kumpara sa mga trapos.

Wise si Mar. He knows that he will not win the race so in giving way to Noynoy, HERO and dating. But the question is, tama ba na ang popular candidate ang manalo? Haven’t we had a lot of them already? Can’t we at least pick the ones with a capability to really run the country? I do not know Noynoy quite well. I do not see him actively participating in the Senate. Ni hindi ko pa nga narinig na mag-interrogate yan sa totoo lang. Sa dami ng magagaling na tao sa atin( maraming nagmamarunong runungan) kayang kaya nilang paikutin si Noynoy. He seem to be a very meek lamb. Kayang kaya yan ng mga galamay ni boobuwit. Welcomed move kay boobuwit yan! She knows that if Noynoy wins, tuloy ang maliligayang araw niya. Kailangan natin ng “matapang” at “tuso” na katulad ni boobuwit kaya lang yung hindi BUWAYA na katulad ng lahat ng kapamilya niya. We need a STRONG leader and not an MEEK and POPULAR one. Kung sa bagay, kung si Mar ang vice niya, baka yun ang strategy ni Mar na siya pa rin talaga ang tunay na magpapalakad ng bansa at hindi si Noynoy. If there is a PLUS for both of them, parehong binata. Full time talaga nila ang magpapalakad ng bansa! Sana hindi sila makapangasawa ng ala-IMELDIFIC! Lagot lalo ang bansa. Both of them are in their 50s and not married. I wonder why?
Sabagay, uso naman sa atin yung may ibang nagpapalakad ng gobierno. Di ba noong panahon ni Marcos si Imelda at ang mga generals ang nagpapalakad ng bansa? Panahon ni Cory si Peping ang humuhuthot ng kaban ng bayan. Ngayon yung Fatso, mga kabayong anak at mga buwayang generals ang nagpapalakad ng bansa. At least kung si Mar ang brains at si Noynoy ang “figure” head, pwede na rin. At least both of them are pretty decent. But I still like someone who is more “tuso” than the boobuwit so thge whole clan is ousted, sa kulungan ang tuloy nila! I do not see Noynoy and Mar doing that to the boobuwit and her gang! They are too “softies”.
Puro na lang ba tayo “transition”? We can not afford anoither transition president. We need a REAL LEADER!

We need real leader. We really need one. But who? Who will be the chosen one. We don’t know. Unless we begin real leadership within ourselves, we can’t have real one. Let us not just talk, complain or compare. Lets act.

Sinabi mo pa. Di naman kailangan na palagi na lang choice between two evils. Nasubukan na kasing evil, susubukan pa rin. Para sa akin, iyan ang malaking katangahan! Walang iniwan doon sa mga battered wives. Binugbog nang katakot-takot hahabol pa rin sa asawang bugbugero. Haaaaaaay!
Hindi ako na-impress sa sinabi ni Mar, PSB. Plastik na plastik ang dating. I guess, it is because I have met more sincere and honest people than the likes of him. Walang binatbat sa totoo lang. Mas bilib ako kay Senator Pimentel! 😛

Konting hasa na lang siguro, baka mas OK pa si Jun Lozada kesa kay Noynoy, but I won’t encourage Jun to run for any position in the government saturated with graft and corruption. Linisin muna bago siya pumasok doon kasi baka bumaho siya gaya ng mga baboy doon.
Mas magandang magtayo muna siya ng grassroot movement niya para may matutunan ang mga dapat niyang turuan ng magagandang asal, etc.
Mas saludo ako kay Jun Lozada kesa dito sa apo ni Roxas. Mas maganda pa ang foundation niya. Gusto ko iyong pagsasamahan nila ng mga kapatid niya. Iyan ang tunay na “A family that prays together, stays together.”
Magandang ehemplo lalo na doon sa mga pilipinong nawasak ang pamilya dahil sa pambubugaw ng mga opisyal nilang doon sila magtrabaho sa ibang bansa.
Si Noynoy ay wala pang nagawa o naipasa mang batas sa pagkaka-alam ko. Pati sa mga debatehan sa Senado nakita niyo bang nakipag-balitaktakan sa kapwa Senador?
Tignan niyo kung sino ang mga nagtutulak sa kanya ngayon … mukhang yong mga elitistang sumipa kay Erap noon di ba? Kawawang Mar pinagka-isahan
Sana’y huwag umatras si Erap sa labanan …
Ang pagiging anak siya nila Cory at Ninoy ay hindi basehan na magiging magaling at maasahang Pangulo ng Bansa. Magiging uto-uto lang siya ng mga buwayang naka-aligid sa kanya.
Idinadalangin ko lang na sana huwag tanggapin ni Noynoy ang alok ng mga elitistang buwaya.
Tedanz, tama ka. Ang mas pursigido sa pagtakbo ni Noynoy ay yung mga sumipa kay Erap na civil society (evil society nga daw yung iba…heh,heh,heh). Ngayon, naisahan nila si Mar. Well, wait till they have installed Noynoy. Sila rin siguro ang sisipa sa kanya kung hindi nila magustuhan ang pamamalakad ni Noynoy, kung hindi susundin ni Noynoy ang dikta nila. Being a decent man is not everything in politics. It is one of the main ingredients but the ability to lead is more of what we need. Kung lalamya lamya, wala ring mangyayari. Baka ang kalabasan niyan, yung four sisters niya ang magiging mga tiga-udyok. Kris has more charisma to me than Noynoy. We need a STRONG leader! Sometimes, I even think that an IRON hand is needed as long as this IRON handed leader is as decent as Ninoy. Hindi pupwede sa Pinoy ang MABAIT na leader. Lalaruin lang siya ng mga pasaway na katulad ni boobuwit.
Experience wise, Roxas is a much better choice by several miles as presidential candidate than Noynoy. He has been working on it during the past several months and giving it up so easily will not sit well on his record. He easily succumbed to pressure and he just projected an image of a weakling. He is the party president yet he did not challenge and call for a party convention to select the party’s standard bearer. He did not even fight for it. He just gave it to Noynoy in a silver platter.
His reason is for party unity. That’s a little stupid. So his liberal party is united but how can he be so sure that by giving way to Noynoy, Noynoy will win the presidency? Is it because he is an Aquino, and Cory’s passing will bring in the votes? How many fools do they have in the Philippines to go for it? It seems these people are already counting the votes even before the filing of COC. The mission in this election is to wrest the presidency from the clutches of Gloria or whom she endorses and the need is to unite the opposition and not just the liberal party.
Ang sabi, parehong mama’s boy itong dalawang ito, pero mas mahina pala ang tuhod nitong si Mar Roxas. Walang ibinatbat.
Noynoy is not Ninoy. He is a cut well below the quality and personality of the old chap. His records speak for itself. He is so naïve to rush himself into the biggest fight of his political career without even a clue except for the urging and pushing of those who may have some agenda for themselves. It’s so unfortunate he is unable to look and see through it.
Nonoy’s presidential nomination by the same people who installed the boobuwit may yet again prove to be another big mistake! We can not be EMOTIONAL in picking a president. We are down under because of corruption. Our treasury has been looted to the last penny by the most corrupt regime we ever had! Ano ang magagawa ng leader na lalamya-lamya? We have to have a STRONG leader! I can not STRESS this enogh!

Hindi ko malaman kung sino ang dapat ibotong presidente sa 2010 na inaakala ninyong dapat mamuno at sa pagkakaalam ninyo ay walang bahid kahit konting tinatagong mantsa ang pangalan.
Kung walang pagpipilian, dapat ba ‘yang pagtalunan o humanap ng mas maaari nating asahang makapagsasalba’t makapagpapabangon mula sa kanyang pagkakalugmok ang ating bayan?

Kung ganyan ng ganyan, baka sa 2010 ang mamumuno sa atin ay ‘yung tagapagtanggol ng mga kawatan ngayon. Kapag nagkagayon, umpisahan na nating magtali sa leeg upang isang hiritan na lamang ang ating pagkatigok! Pagbibigti na lamang ang magiging paraan upang huwag na nating danasin ang panibagong ibayong hirap.
Well, who ever gets to win in the next presidential elections, I guess we just have to hope for the best. Noynoy is la-lamya lamya, but it would be better to see him there on top than Gloria’s anointed ie; Kabayan de Metro or Viilar, etc. He most definitely would be more sensitive to issues and criticisms unlike Gloria who is shameless and thick skinned. And I hope that would serve as his guide to become a better leader albeit some handicaps in leadership qualifications.
We can cry to high heavens for a “great president” but at the end of the day, it is still the majority (who unfortunately are still not mature and not well educated in voting for a candidate, and would tend to vote for someone who is popular but unqualified) who will decide.

I think his giving way is a tactical move, i.e., to show character as in see how great I am putting country above self, which is precisely what is happening. He is getting the accolade from all sectors, which is what he needs at a time when he’s not really leading in the polls. A
He stands a chance of winning the VP slot since the country votes for pres and VP separately, and winning that position is better than not winning any position at all come pres election time.
There really is not one candidate who stands out among the current crop vying for the presidency. All of them are second best if not 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. best.
The one I dislike most is Villar, a two-timing, greedy, lusty hussy!
The next one in my list of dislikes is Gordon, blabber-mouth, self agrandizing, double standard lil man.

My first choice would have been Ping Lacson but since he no longer is going to run, might as well vote against Villar than vote for pres.
Napakabobong Noynoy pag tatanggapin niya ang alok ng mga buwitre. Pag nagkataon tama ang hinala ko na siya ay isang robot lamang na sunod-sunuran sa mga utos. Malayong mas magaling itong si Roxas. Kris kung nagbabasa ka … plis lang huwag mong payagan si Noynoy na tumakbo. Sabihin mo na lang na alagaan na lang ang Baby mo. Bilhan mo siya ng magagarang damit hane para hindi magmukhang tukmol si Noynoy.
Dapat lang na tumakbo si Erap at sana’y payagan ng ating Batas dahil kung hindi ay mangingibababaw na naman ang mga Elitista.
I admire Mar for being a realist and pragmatic. Alam niya mahina ang branding niya sa mga botante. I also admire his intuition that this coming election will be one of the most important turning point in our history kasi nga it all boils down into a battle between good and evil. Sa totoo lang, if he wants to battle it out using his family’s resources, kayang kaya nilang magtapon ng pera.
I agree with most of my blogmates here at ellenville that Noynoy cannot compare to Mar in terms of political experience, but neither did Cory when many Filipinos voted for a “mere housewife” last 1986.
Nung una I thought walang nagawang bills or sinuportahang batas si Noynoy, same impression ko dati sa isa pa nating idol na si Sen. Since 2005, wala na akong pag-asang nakikita sa Pinas. I even initiated steps in migrating out of this country after Garci and the NBN/ZTE scam. But after experiencing the Yellow Fever last month, nabuhayan ako nang pag-asa. Before joining the crowd lining up at Cory’s funeral, I thought pakikiramay lang ang nangungunang dahilan bakit marami sa atin ang nagpunta. To validate my assumption, I started asking people at random sa linya at during the long march from Manila Cathedral to Manila Memorial, and I was surprised by response — GALIT kay GMA maliban sa pakikiramay ang narmadaman ng mga tao.
That realization struck me that voila!! This is the spark of something historical in the making!! I felt the same goose bumps during 1986. If our common objective is to end GMA’s reign, this is our trigger!! Many of us would want to experience the same magic that we felt back then, the same magnet that many of us feel watching soap operas. So if you are a keen political animal, you know that this is your most potent weapon and any marketeer’s nirvana — EMOTIONAL CONNECTION!! And Noynoy is the node on the other end of that connection being the heir to the throne of Camelot.
So being a pragmatic and a realist myself, bakit di natin gamitin itong na-rekindle na Yellow Fever? Even among the Opposition, only Noynoy can provide the unity that Erap is looking for (Binay is a close family friend and PDP-Laban is Cory and Ninoy original party, Erap and Cory through Kris have already mend their differences, of course Mar and the LP with other progressive groups like Akbayan, Roco’s Aksyon Demokratiko, Manong Ed and the Kaya Natin group and even Bro. Eddie of Bangon Pilipinas are now contemplating on supporting Noynoy).
I was a part of the Left then who officially boycotted the 1986 Snap Elections, but deep in my heart then, I felt that the Left is wasted an opportunity to freely market and advertise our advocacies and agenda had we joined the Yellow Fever in 1986. Huwag nating sayangin ang pagkakataon…
Noynoy, gagamitin ka lang ng mga Buwitreng gutom sa kapangyarihan at salapi. Kaya huwag kang padadala sa kanila. Tama na yong ginawa ng iyong mga magulang. Tatanawin na namin na malaking utang na loob pero kung magpapagamit ka lang sa mga taong uhaw sa kapangyarihan parang sinira mo na din ang legacy ng iyong mga magulang.

1. Villar – two timer, man version of Gloria
2. Gordon – two timer, talks too much but doesn’t make sense most of the time
3. De Castro – ooportunist, a wimp, sides with Gloria
4. Erap – he had his chance and he blew it.

Nawala na si Lacson, ngayon naman si Roxas. For me, the only two people among the present lot who can really make change happen. Si Lacson, walang means, pero may track record. Si Roxas meron nang means, meron pang track record. Biglang ang emerging choice e wala nang means, wala pang track record. Ang lamang daw ni Noynoy, is he can ride the present wave of sympathy owing to his mother’s death. But will that wave reach the shore? Oo, nakakagulat yung dami ng nakipaglibing kay Cory, but that was Cory. Oo, his father Ninoy was a great debater and articulate speaker, but again, that was Ninoy.
Knowing the Pinoys’ infamous short memories, I doubt if they can sustain this until May. And the lamest response I heard comes from Noynoy himself, that is, he wants people to make it easy for him to make a decision. He wants everybody to wear yellow, put yellow ribbons in their cars, houses, cellphones, whatever, in order to convince him that he could make it. Now, what happens if they don’t? He’ll start praying and ask for a sign from God?
Nanlalambot ako pag naaalala ko yung mga lofty ideals na tungkol sa principled politics, yung taking the moral higher ground ika nga, tapos ang bagsak natin e sa popularity contest din lang pala.

On the bright side, Noynoy’s entry into the race put a full stop into the ambitions of Binay, his former bodyguard. Ditto Among Ed who had also declared he would not seek the post if fellow kapampangan-speaking Noynoy would run. I’m not sure if Erap still considers Villar as opposition, and knowing Villar will not give way to Noynoy gives Erap a reason, no, an excuse, to make a run himself. But I’m quite confident Erap is a changed man and will keep his word not to run if the opposition is united.
But will Gloria’s lackeys take it sitting down? Will they not pour money into another opposition candidate’s chest, say Chiz’, to keep him in the running, to split the vote if Villar eventually slides down later?
Tongue, I do not know about a “changed” Erap. He threw away his chance. That’s that! Ninoy may win over Erap this time. The people vote emotionally, not on the merits of who can really do the job.

I do not understand Erap’s logic on running and not running. Alam naman niya na hindi niya kayang pagisahin ang opposition. Since there are so many of them wanting to run, why will he want to run too? Nasaan ang logic nun? But maybe he thinks that he will be the only winnable candidate amongst the opposition. I doubt that so. Tapos na siya as far as I am concerned. He can try and dilute the opposition. Lalo lang niyang binigyan ng kawalang pag-asa ng opposition. If he is a real opposition, why does he not just give way to the other candidates and just give his 100% support behind the winnable candidate, si Noynoy, Villar o Chiz.

Noynoy has a deadline to meet. On or about Sept 9 (40th day of Cory demise) his sisters have urged him to decide unequivocally on the issue of 2010. If he has not decided not long thereafter, we can safely write him off as indecisive and unfit to be President. There is a chance he may turn pusillanimous, aka yellow-belly or plain yellow, not the Cory yellow.
It would be a huge let-down for decent society. Mar’s magnanimity in giving way to Noynoy in his country-above-self speech (others call it acceptance of a tottering bid) is no consolation nor viable if retrieved — Korina’s bitter rants devastatingly made sure of that.

For me personally, Roxas has not shown any character at all. He only proved that he is not solid, soft, a weakling and not a fighter.
Putting the country above self is an exaggeration. I’ll be the first one to believe in that statement and praised him to high heavens if they are the only two candidates of the opposition and giving way to the other will solidify their hold on the opposition votes. But that’s not the case. You can only make a sacrifice if when the recipient of your sacrifice is a cinch to win the prize. But what if it turns out to be a loser? What happened then with the sacrifice you made? Useless.
What disappointed me is his giving and conceding without a fight. A convention even if he loses could have been a very good and graceful exit for him. At least he will go down fighting and he will not lose face at all, but by giving up just like that he lost the respect of his followers and supporters.
Cory herself said no several times when the civil society was egging Noynoy to run as Mar’s VP then. She does not want Noynoy to run for higher office, period. Why don’t they just obey her? As the mother, she should know better.
Remember GMA is also the daughter of Pres. Diosdado Macapagal and look at what happened, she became as disastrous monster!
Being the son of Ninoy and Cory is no guarantee that Noynoy can be a good President. Just remember GMA.
Lacson is endorsing Noynoy. He also pointed out that Estrada should yield to Noynoy if he is serious in the unification. Very strong words indeed. This is a booster for Noynoy. Lacson is not easy to please.

The investigation which saw four public hearings was conducted by the committee chaired by Sen. Jinggoy Estrada. He delivered a privilege speech on Nov. 17, 2004, a day after seven strikers were felled by bullets and others injured in what could be the most violent picket line dispersal in history.

The violent dispersal of the strike of Hacienda Luisita farm workers on Nov. 16, 2004 that led to the death of 14 farmers including women and children and the wounding of 200 others was a massacre bound to happen.
….Most of the accounts that have been reported about the Nov. 16 massacre have overlooked the fact that the 6,000-hectare hacienda, known in the past as Asia’s largest sugar plantation, has been militarized since the beginning.

More than the issue of wage and jobs, land distribution remains to be the major demand of Hacienda Luisita workers. The workers, led by ULWU, are calling for the scrapping of the Stock Distribution Option (SDO), which the Cojuangcos used to purportedly escape land distribution to its tenants under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Ironically, it was then Pres. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, whose family owns the Hacienda, who signed the CARP law in 1987.
The bloody dispersal is the 4th such incident in the 11-day old strike of farm and sugarcane workers. The bloody row is also the third massacre case involving the Cojuangco clan and a member of its family. The other two were the Mendiola Massacre that killed 13 peasants on Jan. 22, 1987 and Lupao Massacre (also in Central Luzon) on Feb.10, 1988, with 17 peasants killed. Both carnages took place during the time of Pres. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino.

Today, 22 January 2008, marks the 21st anniversary of what has been dubbed as the “Mendiola Massacre.” An entire generation may not be aware of, and many could have already forgotten, what transpired on that date.
In the words of the Supreme Court: “People may have already forgotten the tragedy that transpired on January 22, 1987. It is quite ironic that then, some journalists called it a Black Thursday, as a grim reminder to the nation of the misfortune that befell twelve (12) rallyists.
But for most Filipinos now, the Mendiola massacre may now just as well be a chapter in our history books.

February 10, 1987. Seventeen civilians, including six children and two elderly, were killed by government troops in Lupao, Nueva Ecija. In 1989, the 24 soldiers allegedly involved in the massacre were acquitted by a military court. Nineteen years later, the human rights situation in Lupao and in the whole province of Nueva Ecija remains gruesome.

The records of the Commission on Human Rights — formed 20 years ago after a People Power revolution toppled the Marcos dictatorship — showed that there were more abuses during the terms of Aquino and Ramos than during the 20-year-rule of former strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
Diaz said that based on the 1998 annual report of the CHR, the six-year term of Aquino had the most human rights violations, with cases exceeding the 9,000 mark.
The term of Ramos came in second with a little over 7,000 recorded human rights violations.
The 20-year rule of the Marcoses only had 1,500 violations, Diaz said. Hence, accusations that the Marcos regime was known for its violations of human rights were “grossly unfair,” he argued.

Balweg, you are not the only one saying that Cory was not really the Cory adored by many. Marami di siyang kapalpakan but our people’s memory is short. Kahit na ginahasa at pinatay na ang mga mahal nila sa buhay, nakalimutan na nila ang nakaraan. This is why we are in the mess we are in right now. I used to say…LACSON OR NEVER. Now with Noynoy in the limelight, it’s not surprising almost every is quick to criticize; his appearance, his being mama’s boy, his almost invisible presence in senate media blitz, his being softie, kamag-anak, inc., the list goes on. It just hit me that maybe, there is a purpose why the 5 bullets that hit him during the 87 coup never succeeded and until now there is still 1 bullet remained. He was almost killed while trying to protect his mother. Why not give this humble and meek lamb a chance to protect and lead what is left of his motherland? His parents left with a lot of unfinished business lingering. Maybe it’s about time their son finish it. Now, I am thinking…perhaps, Noynoy is already a LACSON IN THE MAKING.
