City police director Chief Superintendent Elmo San Diego said in an interview that authorities recovered some 100 spent shells from M16 rifles in and outside Neri’s home at #28 Palali Street, Sta. Mesa Heights.
President Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday condemned the strafing of Secretary Romulo Neri’s home in Quezon City, and ordered the Philippine National Police to increase the number of his security men.
“The President condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms,” Press Secretary Cerge Remonde told reporters in a briefing, adding that she also ordered the police to conduct a “full-dress investigation” of the attack.
Neri’s Toyota van (NTO 453) was also hit by bullets.
Based on initial investigation, San Diego said the six suspects, on board two vehicles, first disarmed Neri’s two security escorts who were both standing outside Neri’s home, before firing at the gates.
The suspects then fled and abandoned their vehicles in Cetacio Street, and escaped in an unknown direction onboard another vehicle, San Diego said.
The abandoned vehicles were two Hyundai vans (CXA 804 and XLC 169).
The incident occurred past 9 a.m. when Neri was reportedly about to go to work. Authorities said the SSS executive was safe.
Metro Manila police commander Director Roberto Rosales said that after the incident, police would increase Neri’s security detail to Neri.
San Diego, citing a statement from Neri, said that the executive did not know of any reason behind the attack.
In fact, Neri even reduced his security detail last month from 10 to three.
But because of the incident, his security would have to be increased, San Diego said.
Rosales said police were looking at several motives behind the attack: personal grudge, work-related, or Neri’s involvement in the botched national broadband network project.
“He has been in the news before and we will be maintaining an open communication with Neri,” Rosales added.
San Diego said the suspects belonged to an organized group and probably meant to scare the SSS executive.
“This was organized and well-planned because Secretary Neri is a high-profile person,” he added.
Neri has expressed full cooperation in the investigation, San Diego said.
At this time, police are collating accounts from Neri’s detail and eyewitnesses to come up with artist sketches of the suspects, San Diego added.
But because of the incident, his security would have to be increased, San Diego said.
Is he still operational? Neri that is — if he can no longer work, he should be fired from his job. (I was tempted to add “not just strafed.”)
Is he under the protected witness program? (Witness against Gloria’s corruption.) Also, who’s paying for his security detail.
Damn crook. If he thinks he deserves sympathy, he can always stuff his belief up his ass.

Di kaya prelude ito to something more sinister? First, it’s state of emergency dahil sa sakunang naganap dulot ng bagyong ondoy. Tapos nangyari itong bagyong unggoy.. este Neri pala. Naalala ko tuloy noong panahon ni Marcos. Na (fake) ambush si Enrile na dating Defencse Minister ni Marcos… tapos declare agad ng martial law. Wala namang originality ang gobyernong ito.

Dapat ngayon pa lang magsulat na siya ng last will and testament niya to include the truth on the evil woman’s crimes. Ibigay niya ito sa maraming tao so this will serve as an “insurance” that should something happen to him, lahat ng baho ni boouwit eh lalabas.

What a waste! One bullet is enough to take care of Neri. They could have used those extra bullets in fighting the Abus in Mindanao.
Once again this not so subtle operation exposed their ineptitude in a game they enjoyed playing to take the heat from other hot issues. There’s no originality. Everybody has seen it before. Bumenta na. The next time create a play/drama complete with real actions and maybe some romantic interlude that make sense and believable, who knows maybe others will bite it.

This particular IT project was not only technically flawed, but has a few security holes. About two years ago, CHED was adamant to implement this mandatory process in spite of the points raised by the IT folks who attended the taxpayers-paid for “workshop.”
4. Or, GMArroyo’s intel folks got wind that Neri has been “convinced” by the opposition to spill all the beans on the ZTE-NBN, so Neri can spend the rest of his miserable life counting the “beans” for his disclosure?

I’d take out #4 from your menu. Neri will carry Gloria’s secrets with him to the grave. I’d say if this was the case, Manay Romela was just being reminded of his ‘loyalty’ so he was not taken out.
I tend to go with you on #1. In one of my post I said Romy knew about the strafing as was beforehand given instructions by Gloria.
What gave him in? Look, nakangiti pa si manay e! Under this circumstance, if he was not part of it…nagtititili pa yan hangga ngayon. Believe me, I saw him up close and personal under a non-scripted incidents of non-value.
Warning shots pa lang yan! If Neri whistles, the mafia will blow up his “manhood”, ala Sabit Swingson style (which characterizes the gang). He will be virtually “dead”. Neri will be repentant then but too late. Kaya ngayon pa lang, he should “sing”.
