Teodoro: ‘We need a healing presidency’

by Probe Profiles

gilbert teodoroPThe expected standard-bearer of the administration party, Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro is in an unenviable position. He is almost at the bottom of the current presidential survey ladder and constantly on the defensive because of the disastrous disaster response of his National Disaster Coordinating Council at the height of tropical storm “Ondoy” and typhoon “Pepeng.”

Identified with an unpopular Chief Executive, Teodoro’s bid is being challenged from within the administration. Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, a colleague in the Cabinet, is reportedly also poised to run for president. Another, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo, has openly expressed close ties with the family of presidential wannabe, Sen. Benigno Aquino III. With eight months to go before the 2010 elections, is Teodoro still the viable candidate for the ruling party?

In a one-on-one interview with Probe Profiles, Teodoro answers the tough questions and explains why he wants to be president. He bares his personal background as well as professional track record, and shares his views on politics and governance that shape his brand of leadership.

  1. If Teodoro can turn a blind eye to the shenanigans in the Arroyo adminsitration, he has no business talking about good governance.

Here’s a portion of the interview that tells us a Teodoro presidency would be no different from that of Arroyo:

Q: Do you agree with what the current president is doing? Having one-million peso dinner in Le Cirque …
A: The Le Cirque incident, I mean, was beyond the foreign trip schedule and the purpose, no? I won’t comment on the Le Cirque thing. I was in there but—

Q: What about a planeload of congressmen?
A: I mean, it’s also important because a lot of, it’s a reality. A lot of the objects of these foreign agreements need legislation to work.

Q: You don’t think she’s just paying favors?
A: I think a foreign trip like that, the congressman can very well take it from their own travelling allowance, which is provided for. It’s a difference when you try to bring them into the picture as actual participants in international relations. President Ramos before did that domestically through using the Ledac more, very often. I mean, it’s a team building effort also.

After reading the interview… yes I will NOT vote for him. By the way, even if i haven’t read this interview, I will still not vote for him. 🙂

  3. Mike Mike

Mukhang ok naman ang background niya from the way he talked about his family, from his childhood, his studies, his relationship with his dad and up to his getting married and raising a child. (that’s if, if he is really being truthful with what he says in the interview).

“A healing presidency”, that’s a good one to ride on, but for Gibo, it will never register. And here’s why.

A healing presidency is reconciling by exorcising all the evils of the previous regime and to govern with transparency, justice, honesty, compassion and sensitive to the welfare and needs of its people. How can Gibo even talk about a healing presidency when he can’t see faults and evils of the Arroyo admin? It seems that he sees and believes in her as a good president and should continue with her policies. Where have he been during all these years? Did he just come from Mars or have been confined at the enchanted kingdom of his president?

Gibo knows that the odds of winning the prize is maybe one in a million, yet he is determine to fight it out, which makes one wonder if there’s something in the works for him. An automated Garci maybe?

So true Mike, no need to read nor watch his interview. Am not interested and did not bother.

  6. Know little of Teodoro except that

    1) he is Gloria’s puppy
    2) he failed miserably in the preparatory efforts before the killer Ondoy hit RP
    3) he failed miserably in getting things on track to limit the damages wrought by the killer typhoons, he who held the chairmanship of the Natl Disaster Coordinating Council first went on the air begging for alms from foreign countries
    4) he cannot even put the AFP in order – proof is continuing mayhem in the South with only deaths of soldiers to boast of

Given all those shortcomings, he now comes in the open, and as presidential aspirant, his first declaration is to defend the inanities and the abuses of Gloria’s allies in Congress.

No, Mr Teodoro, you are not fit to be president. You will be another shameless hussy — with absolutely NO MORAL COURAGE!

  7. chi chi

A healing presidency is Gibo’s plataporma. Nah… korek si Ellen, that he has no business talking about it if he can’t/won’t even rightly address simple questions on Le Cirque dinner and planeloads of tongressmen.

He choice to party with Gloria, sayang lang ang silver spoon na isinubo sa kanya ng kanyang magulang.

  8. chi chi

Gibo wants to become president.

  10. tru blue tru blue

I’ve always had a glimmer of hope for this dud. Going thru that interview, his responses were that of a lunatic, good lord! And a Harvard graduate???

Guess it’s down to these four clowns:

Noynoy – xerox copy of Cory, despite admitting he’s not ready for the presidency, he’s being shoved anyways by those who have real stake once he’s on the throne. Same ol same ol. Will let his cabinet dogs go after whatever they can haul.

Chiz – please?????stay as a senator and be like Enrile when he gets old.

Villar – why would a billionaire spend billions for a “not even a million a year salary?” Let me check the barbershops on this one, maybe I can get a different wild perspective.

Erap – Asiong seems to think he’s still hot, maybe just Tondo. If this other dud really cared for the people, the country wouldn’t be in this predicament. Letting Queen Gluerilla kicked you out without a furious fight was a manifestation you never deserved the presidency let alone a second chance. Logical thing to do is endorse a winnable candidate and hope you get job as “press secretary”.

  11. Gibo? Actually he has the best credentials among all presidentiables. But he is Gloria’s boy. Expect him to play the role of Dmitry Medvedev (Russian’s virtual ceremonial president) who will front for PM “Gloria Putin.”

  12. parasabayan parasabayan

sayang itong isang ito. He has his blinders on.

I agree with you Tru Blu. Mahirap mamili sa mga presidentiables. Puro itutulak. Walang kakabigin.

I absolutely agree with The Equalizer. Heh,heh, heh…Gloria Putin! Akala ko Putot!

  13. There’s that ancient idiom saying: Birds of a feather …

  14. “he has the best credentials among all presidentiables. ”

Beg to disagree EQ! Credentials are not based only on educational attainment. Credentials should be based on a lot of factors including ability to think and act at the same time and most of all possessio of moral courage, i.e., ability to say, wrong is wrong no matter who says or does it.

Churning legal gobbledygooks learned from a premier university do not make one intellectually capable to lead, manage and execute.

  15. vic vic

Teodoro, maybe a gentleman, but a principled man he is not…he can’t see the obvious “abuse” of privileges by GMA, the outright arrogance of Her and her Cronies in Congress and to Compare her Transgression with Past President and Administration to Justify what is wrong is the hallmark of indecisive individual…he could be easily any one’s puppet.

  16. romyman romyman

This off-topic but I wish to inform everybody from Ellenville of this blog.

    http://www.ellaganda.com/?p=1759

I am not going to describe in so many adjective. Let you people be the judge.

  17. We don’t need to elect a a quack doctor to sit there asses in Malacanang, who can only administer a band-aid solution. What we need is a man who can right the wrongdoings of the Arroyo Regime.

So what to expect now? With Gibo guarding the hand of his protege president, there is a lot of emphasis on continuity. With the presidency soon changing hands, there appears to be an opportunity for a cause correction.

Erap the pang masa will just make a taglish few campaign speeches and walked away with the election by winning more than 70 percent of the vote against those designated losers.

  18. romyman romyman

The story above #16, was written by a volunteer who has actual first hand knowledge. She is an eyewitness to the questionable action (or no action) of DSWD.

I know for a long time that some of the ukay-ukay goods sold in the stores comes from corrupt govt. officials and employees. How do I know? My cousin(RIP) has ukay-ukay stalls in the port area. Negotiations are always coursed through middle men.

It is probable that in the documentation imported goods are always the first one to be reported as depleted or zero stock.

  19. i for one likes Gibo’s credentials but those would be tested by the floods… and his response? it is expected that he has to sound good to his boss. and that’s the problem.

it’s bad enough that Gibo does not have any charisma, he should have not aligned with… well…. i mean, identified with… [fill in the blanks] worse, the other part of this credentials was tested. and he flunked.

  20. perl perl

  21. Romyman, Chi, Mon. Perl and others who have are interested in that link about rotten goods. The reason why I have not reposted it because I have not verified the information.

Now, I just talked with DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral and here’s what she said:

It’s not true that the goods are rotting.

The goods are not being delivered because as of now the evacuees have enough of those goods. In the coming days and weeks, as the evacuees will be relocated, they will be given more of those goods (clothes, blankets, etc.).

As to the statement that the reason they are not delivered because there are no volunteers, Secretary Cabral said they always welcome volunteers but that is not the reason why those goods are not being delivered.

She said, when delivery time comes and the volunteers would be needed, they would welcome an extra hand. But if there are no volunteers, they will deliver the goods with the available manpower they have.

    I hope this clarifies things.

  22. romyman romyman

Ellen, if you read that blog you will notice that the author disowned the word ‘rotten’ it was GMA/ABS-CBN who used that characterization in their news segment.

The pictures speak a thousand words. Isn’t it strange that our good Secretary of Social Welfare is characterizing the ‘evacuees’ to represent all the victims of the two typhoon. There are communities in Pasig, Cainta, Hagonoy and many more still in chest deep waters who didn’t bother to leave their houses/communities, they are not evacuees, but definitely victims.

  23. romyman romyman

This is the author’s response to the characterization of GMA News.
    http://www.ellaganda.com/?p=1763

The author displays objectivity by posting the complete reply of Sec. Cabral.

Let the people be the judge its her (Ella) blog against Sec. Cabral’s denial and explanation.

  24. MPRivera MPRivera

I’ve read the explanations of the DSWD secretary and I found some brow raising lines. One of these was the so called security they enforce in their warehouse where taking pictures is prohibited.

Donations sa Storage or warehouses, samantalang maraming
utensils o gamit sa pag-luto, naka-tambak pala sa warehouses, kitang-kita sa letrato ( a picture is worth a thousand words ). Halatang-halata ang naka-tagong intensyones ( waiting to cool down the calamities and bring out another TOP stories ).
15% to 5% lamang ang totoo.

A wound is healed when blood covers the crack or gash, and calcifies (solidifies). It binds the two sides, and produces a stronger material, that keeps the separated skin together. When the wound is deeper, the skin may even produce keloids – proteins that provide an even stronger binding agent.

  29. chi chi

I like that “huling presidency”, hehehe. Galing a!

  31. Jake Las Pinas Jake Las Pinas

Sa Pilipinas kaya ipinanganak si Gibo? Parang may itinatago sya sa interview nya. I like the crime minister. hindi malayo mangyari ito.

  32. MPRivera MPRivera

    Patunay:

Q: Do you agree with what the current president is doing? Having one-million peso dinner in Le Cirque …
A: The Le Cirque incident, I mean, was beyond the foreign trip schedule and the purpose, no? I won’t comment on the Le Cirque thing. I was in there but—

No pwede Totoy!

  40. Thanks romyman for the link.

Ellen, I find Cabral’s excuse as totally lame. For example, the boxes marked “Reliance” with JICA stickers are portable toilets (orinola) that I remember seeing during the relief operations for Ginsaugon. When are they going to distribute these, when the victims are back at home, where they have their toilets already? The fact that the imported goods are not included in the sacks is self-explanatory.

  41. gusa77 gusa77

Need healing presidency or stealing president again?for nine long years, the people been suffering from stealing president why install another one,do pinoy become more dumber than before MARCOS regime,we elected lot ofIMPORTED ENHANCED BRAIN officials of the REPUBLIC,but where do we end up,sinking deeper and deeper, until we find ourself we belong to the poorest country, exporting productive manpower to boost another country economy,if these current leaders or next one would do same thing, the next generation would be suffering more than what the present generations,a hot items to be exported to another countries.

  42. vic vic

What Gibo is opening with his “healing Presidency” is the all Out Pardon of all the Crimes and Sins of the Outgoing Presidents and all Her Bunch of Merry Thieves and nothing much more than That..That is just to prepare the Public for what is in Store…But if Teodoro would like to become the Healing President, he can by Promising to the People of the Philippines and the World that upon assuming the Office of the President he will open an No-holds-barred Criminal Investigations of all the alleged Corruptions of all Elected Officials of the Outgoing Administration, the unexplained wealth of all Public Officials, including those in Custom, BIR, Education, Public Highways and just everyone involved in corruptions and forfeit all their ILL-GOTTEN wealth in favour of the National Treasury and maybe if he does all this, I may take an oath to regain my Long Lost citizenship and give him my precious vote..other than that…voting on anyone of them is just a momentous WASTE>

  43. jawo jawo

Being a graduate of prestigious schools like Xavier, U.P., DLSU, or Harvard University (from where Gibo attended) does not necessarily mean the man in question is smart. Academically-bright, perhaps, but smart ?? I don’t think so. Hindi halata kung baga.

What one says and does in dire times and under fire are the true measure of a mature and intelligent person. Sterling academic credentials does not a prersident make.

Ewan ko. After reading a sample of the interview, I’d say Gibo Teodoro is non smarter than the rest of us. He is just another lame brain who was just lucky to have been born with the proverbial silver spoon and his family’s vast financial resources to afford him to attended the schools he went to. Like I said earlier, the man may be bright, but he is definitely NOT smart. He, Gloria, and the rest of this cabal of thieves deserve each other.

A healing president, is it ? Make no mistake, while his advocacy is such for the next “real” president with the people’s mandate as Erap was and to let bygones be bygones, that, in itself is a ticklish pronouncement. Unlike Gloria who hovered over the shoulder of the Ombudsman especially for those cases involving her and her husband, at least Gibo knows he cannot influence the Ombudsman in its decision as to who to prosecute for erring officials if he were elected president. Pero bakit nga ba naman siya makiki-alam ? We all know that Merceditas Gutierrez will serve out her remaining years as ombudsman after her own impeachment was deemed as insufficient in everything except perhaps for a few typos. Kaya kampante si Gibo because Gutierrez will surely do her job well and that he will not be accused of influencing any and all decisions by the ombudsman.

  44. The biggest and worst social disease is corruption. How will Bigo heal that? Will he perform surgery on himself and his cohorts?

From what he sounded like, it isn’t healing at all. It’s a prescription for a slow, painful sure death.

  45. chi chi

Hahaha! I like your last line, tongue.
