2010 clean elections for Filipinos, not for America

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said Gloria Arroyo is ready to reassure Hillary Clinton of clean elections in 2010.

There is something wrong here. The press secretary and spokesman of a president of one country assuring a cabinet member of another country that the elections in her country would be clean. In the first place, elections should be clean and credible. Not for the United States or other countries but for the Filipino people.

Elections is the engine that drives democracy. Through elections, the people choose their leaders. In the a presidential system like the Philippines, elections is supposed to be an equalizer because when a voter goes to polls. Rich or poor, young or old, highly-educated or illiterate, his vote is counted as one vote. That what it should be in a clean and credible election.

You tamper the results, as what Arroyo did in the 2004 elections, you destroy the trust of the people in the elections and you undermine democracy.

Remonde’s assurance of clean elections on 2010 is an indirect admission that the 2004 presidential elections were not clean

Remonde also said Arroyo will assure Clinton of “ a peaceful orderly transition of power.”

It’s the Filipino people that Arroyo should assure. By even taking it up with a foreign secretary of another country, even if it’s the United States of America, showed how low Arroyo’s illegitimate presidency has brought the country down.

We are really without any self respect. You are right, Ellen. Why do we have to report to Hillary Clinton that we are going to have a clean elections in 2010. That should be a given.

If this government has any self-respect, we should even be insulted if another country tries to meddle with our elections.

I know that many welcome US pressure on Arroyo to step down in 2010 and to not monkey again with the 2010 elections. The undertone of the pressure is that they know and believe that Arroyo cheated in the 2004 elections. Why are they tolerating her?

    It’s a subterfuge.

Gosh, so what if Hillary is coming to town? Will it pressure Gloria Arroyo NOT to cheat in the elections for her political perpetuity? Bet the issue won’t even come out in their chit-chat. Propaganda lang yan ng EK.

Kayang-kayang bolahin ni Gloria si Hillary, what’s the use of the millions of dollars she donates to the Clinton Global Inititative? Bolahin ninyo ang lelong n’yo! I view the stopover visit of Hillary as just a ‘return’ visit to her bff Gloria.

Enough of the US caring for Pinas clean elections. As Becky said, “Why are they tolerating her?” if they really do care?

The change must come from within not from without!

Hillary, huwag kang mag-alala. Malinis ngayon ang pagkakayari namin ng eleksyon.

Why? Is Hilary Clinton the colonial governor of the Philippines? Nobody believes assurances coming from Gloria Arroyo. She’s a liar and a certified election cheater. The corrupt GMA government has credibility problem.

If ever na totoo na concern ang America sa malinis na 2010 elections, ay nangangahulugan lamang na naniniwala sila sa pandarayang naganap last 2004 as evidenced by the Hello Garci tapes. We Filipinos has the chance to make the people responsible for the cheating answerable, but we blew it dahil napairal ng Pidal Mafia ang pera at impluwensiya. Dami ba kasing mukhang perang mambabatas.

  7. There has never been a Philippine elections that was 100% accurate. In fact, there has never been a USA elections where 100% of the votes cast were counted correctly.

Remonde’s words were for the ears of Pinoys-in-Pinas since May2010 is just around the corner. Maybe a little bit for Hillary just to tell her that Pilipinas as a whole and even that portion of Mindanao under ARMM is not an Afghanistan.

clean election? huh! i dont think so.

Their interest is above the Pinoys’. It is sad but true.

  14. parasabayan parasabayan

Tongue, it will be the other way around, wise and Amerikano, gagamitin ka nila at hindi mo sila magagamit.

  15. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said Gloria Arroyo is ready to reassure Hillary Clinton of clean elections in 2010.

Hahahah… the freak is deluding himself into thinking that Clinton will believe Gloria.

  16. PSB, what I mean with “gamitin ko na lang ang America sa interes ng bansa ko” is get tough with the terms of the deals that they sign. I would for example, demand for bigger export quotas, get military assistance at par or even greater with those less strategically useful countries. Like what Egypt is receiving these days. I would perhaps solicit help in getting debt condonation for the shady loans or at the very least, get easier terms from the financial institutions. America controls WB, IMF, UN, and has unchallenged clout in any world org.

It’s about time we get treated as co-equals.

  17. parasabayan parasabayan

Tongue, unfortunately, we may NEVER be treated co-equal by the US or any of the first world countries until we eliminate the corruption in our country and improve the economic atmosphere for global investors to trust us.

Tragically, the only time we get additional military assistance is when people are abducted, beheaded, raped and killed in Mindanao. It is even a suspect if those killings are planned to get more aid from those who are very concerned with the Mindanao war.

What we probably can do is to clean our own backyard and show to these first world countries that we are worthy of their respect.

Sadly, we have nothing to leverage with them except our labor force which they have enjoyed immensely because they can get two for the price of one or may even be cheaper.
