“Her” man

by Lito Banayo
Malaya

The last reputable surveys done after the filing of certificates of candidacy show three presidential candidates at the top: Noynoy Aquino in the mid to high forties, Manny Villar and Erap Estrada in a virtual tie at 20 or 19 percentage points. And Gilbert Teodoro, the man anointed by the once humongous Partido Lakas-Kampi founded by Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, incumbent and long-staying president of the benighted republic, at low single-digit numbers. The rest are also-rans, at 1 percentage point or even lower.

Why the regime’s anointed is languishing at bottom lows, despite the vaunted party machinery, the well-placed ads projecting competence and intelligence (“galing at talino”), and despite inarguably better speaking and debating skills than the competition, is attributable to the public belief that he is “Gloria’s man”, the chosen “one”, the person she deems most fit to succeed and most acceptable to her. Unfortunately for him, the person who chose him above all else happens to be most distrusted by the population. That distrust for his patroness drags Gibo down, never mind his personal qualities. It carries over to his persona, reinforced in no small measure by his having expressed not only the usual paeans of gratitude, but a public admiration for her “ many achievements”, something clearly the people do not share. To do a volte face at this time will no longer be credible. Gilbert Teodoro’s chances are thus virtually nil. Even Ronaldo Puno’s vaunted skills cannot resurrect flagging hopes. Nor Virgilio Garcillano’s magic make the trick. Perhaps if Norberto Gonzales succeeds in discombobulating everything and upsetting the applecart of elections… perhaps, but that’s a big IF, and assuming the guy and his patroness can pull it through, will the people ever be so supine as to take such adventurism lying down?

It does not help Teodoro one whit that his patroness has filed her certificate of candidacy for the second congressional district of Pampanga. The undisguised attempt to pull strings even beyond her wished-for political demise, ruling beyond the grave as it were, makes Teodoro look all the more the puppet that he is unfairly made to be. Yesterday, the papers carried Speaker Prospero Nograles’ inclusion of the call for a constitutional convention, as if to further stress the GMA plan so obvious. But because Gibo’s presidential ambition is singularly anchored on the support of her party and its minions across the archipelago, he cannot publicly balk. In fact, he is on record as supporting a change in the Constitution. While amending the fundamental law is right, espousing it at the moment when people so clearly distrust the sincerity of the incumbent is off-key. Gilbert cannot even publicly state that if elected president, he will wield his influence to ensure that GMA does not become his Speaker of the House. So, whether for better, or predictably for worse, Gloria’s distrust rating will be albatross around Gilbert’s neck. His goose is cooked, never mind how often Prospero Pichay or Mitos Magsaysay whistle in the dark.

Which brings me to this story: A few days before Manny Pacquiao knocked down Ricky Hatton in early May, the spouses Cynthia and Manuel Villar flew to Spain. Likewise, Gloria flew to Egypt and Syria for official visits. Why she had to go to these North African countries the public was never clear at, but in any case, they took it as just one of her usual flights of fancy. The Villars were waiting in Spain for cues from a well-placed Gloria crony, who was supposed to arrange a rendezvous with her in some warm Mediterranean coast.

Fortunately, this writer found out about the Villar travel plans. And so, just as Dona Gloria landed in Egypt, the cat was out of the bag. Expectedly, Malacanang made denials. Senadora Jamby Madrigal got into the act, and denounced Villar for desperately seeking La Gloria’s support in his attempt to derail the Senate ethics probe. This after all, was Villar’s immediate problem. The attempted rendezvous panned out.

But then, and here our travel facts jibe with the veracity of highly reliable sources, a top-level meeting was supposed to have yet pushed through here in the country. And GMA, wanting for a strong contender her PaLaKa simply could not pull off from its hat, warmed up to the idea of Villar as her “secret” candidate. Classified as opposition, though not an “obstructionist” nor a GMA basher as the rest of the presidential pack, Villar qualified as an acceptable alternative bet. Moreover, he was already ahead of her vice-president, Noli de Castro in the May surveys. Better yet, he had wherewithal to the max, the result of “smart” transactions capped by an even “smarter” IPO of his real estate empire the year before. Noli she had to spend for, while with Manny, she gets a free ride.

The result of the “transaction” as my source confided, is that GMA would endorse a “weak” but credible enough candidate, and not “encourage” Noli to run for president, a prospect that the not-so-ambitious vice-president was not inordinately “lusting” for. And on his part, Villar would keep dangling a “repeat vice-president” string, loaded with generous freebies, to his bosom friend Noli, a “red herring” of an offer. If GMA would have a weak official candidate, Manny with his huge war chest would prevail in the 2010 derby, the ideal surrogate. Neat.

After all, Lacson had withdrawn; Escudero had no money and would have to rely on Danding and Ramon Ang’s promises; Mar Roxas and Loren Legarda were languishing in single-digit survey static; and Erap would be disqualified. And true enough, when the SWS polled in mid-June 2009, it was a statistical tie among Villar, Chiz and Erap, with Noli behind, Loren and Mar even more so. Teodoro had launched his clumsy disaster preparedness infomercial a month before, its debut timed with Hatton’s early knock-out from the Pacman’s fists, and while everybody shook his head at his “late” entry and doubted his chances, most agreed he had intellectual credentials, credibility as candidate but not enough to win. Gravitas, but not votes.

And then the Lord writ His providence with sad tidings. On August 1, Corazon Aquino died after a long bout with cancer, and the political stage shook underneath. Forty days later, a game changer came in with Noynoy on the presidential trail. All previous assumptions changed, including the fortunes of Gloria’s pre-arranged surrogate. Likely unstoppable winner became a distant second, despite tons and tons of creative advertising and a bevy of turncoats. From September till December of the year past, Noynoy kept his commanding lead. Escudero withdrew, Erap persists, but Gibo continues to languish in the political netherworld.

And that is where the woman of the decade finds immediate political dilemma at this point in time. Her anointed has not risen, and her alternate, though far from victory, presents the single most “possible” threat to the front-runner she could not accept because he is the least likely to “transact”.

If creative advertising and a well-run because well-funded campaign pulls Villar up in the next three months, and a demolition job somehow pushes down Noynoy’s lead considerably (or so the evil are planning), then it’s game for Manny and goodbye for Gibo. Garci and the “operators” should be able to do the trick, with Smartmatic laying the predicate.

But would Manny the new president be faithful to his “no me impune” assurances? Why not?

They would need each other most after a certifiably controversial “election”. She with her residual powers as “commander-in-chief” between May 10 and June 30 just might be able to quell the tumult of the rabble. That’s why Del Bangit and the Class of ’78 are in the “proper” places. And he would at least be able to recover his billions, while stopping prosecution for “smart” deals made as congressman, Speaker, senator and Senate President, charges with enough documentary evidence to prosecute, but parried successfully by “smart” propaganda so far. Never mind if he has to deal with “her” congressmen with her, (misma!) as Speaker. If he is off to wobbly start, he would not get his bearings composed, and she, as “Speaker” and alternate “power center”, just might be able to pull off her parliamentary dreams of becoming the prime minister.

There you are — “her” real man for the May elections. God save this country.

Villar-GMA-Gibo ( VGG ), they all live in the same comfort zone. The three are ” very-golden-goods”, the descent other
name of ggg’s. The combination of the 3-tripod-power and
influences will surely produce a prime minister, through the enhance of the Cha-Cha. The public voters should see this
    scenario and be vigilant.

One of the biggest lies of all politics is the message that an underdog can win against a most-favored.When someone is poor or unschooled or not favored (translation: lagging in the polls) then that person might as well just go home and be content with being a messenger, a desk clerk, a teacher, at best, a barangay kapitan.

  4. Villar: In my book, he’s probably one of the most despicable politicians there is around, and currently, the most shithead of shithead presidential contenders!

No way Villar, Hudas ng kahudas-hudasan!

  6. chi chi

For all his “talino at galing”, why Gibo let’s himself be Gloria Arroyo’s basahan (rugs) is beyond me.

Harvardian nga, engot naman. What’s the use of his talent daw, sayang na galing at hindi pakikinabangan ng bayan, kulang na lang ay tikimin ang biomass ng kanyang presidenta. Kalas na!

lito banayo is right. the only way for gma to escape prosecution and pay for her crimes to the filipino people is to make sure the next president is an ally. gibo, languishing in the bottom is not the real administration bet. villar is the gloria annointed.

That was the tune of discussion among expats here a long time ago, but with one “speculation” to add spice to the round table…that the Pardon would also meant that Erap will be utilized to “Fragmentize” the Opposition Votes, just in case he would not get disqualified, his votes will surely meant a plus for Villar. If disqualified, back to the drawing board…

  9. vic vic

Like the experience we already had,in politics, there is no discounting any possibilities…and to pardon your enemy for life in prison or even to spend just a few years in penitentiary for Nothing is also beyond any reason for a Woman so wily and treacherous to kick him out in the first place. Just some food for thoughts…

When a news is like this, even without thinking, I can make a choice, hehehe!

I’m not worried about Peping, kalat ang kanyang katarantaduhan and Noy2 would be a complete idiot if he’s unaware of his uncle’s reputation and would do nothing to cut him off, in case mag-baboy uli.

  11. To me, Teodoro is a no go however great his educational attainment is.

    Three reasons:

    1. As DND chief, he has been absoultely remiss about his professional duties and obligations that was idiotically capped by his incredible incompetence during the Ondoy disaster.

    2. Because he served ss one of Gloria’s top dogs.

    3. Because he continues to defend Gloria.

His continuing defiance of all that is morally correct as he continues to defend the indefensible, i.e., Gloria magnanakaw, Gloria the abusada, Gloria the cheat, etc., has neutralised whatever positive traits he may possess.

He is unsuitable for the job, full stop.

  12. chi chi

  13. Based on Lito’s prognosis, we may be looking at a battle royale between Aquino and Villar.

Sanamagan… not the most ideal presidentiables but there you are…. Sheeeeeet!

  14. Villar has got the Joma fanatics’ votes!

  15. dada dada

    villar will win guys ^_^

when children are aloud to vote hahahaha
but i was shocked with this news….thanks for the news I’ll spread it.

I always thought there’s something in this election that seems out of place. Turn out not as democratically free as it supposes to be with this kind of revelation! Well, I guess it’s again down to lesser of all evils just to do our duty for the country. Will it be Erap or Noynoy for the people? If it becomes to close between either one, we’ll have money as president with pandak as speaker of the house! (Not a good prognosis).

  17. Villar has got the Joma fanatics’ votes! – AdeBrux

That is the most difficult cryptic puzzle I have yet to solve.

The Communists sharing the political orgy with the über capitalist! Reminiscent of the 2001 coup when the reds were dry-humped from the rear by Gloria and her cabal. They never learn.

  18. @AdeBrux and TonGuE-tWisTeD:

Yes, and how they will come to terms with Villar giving farmers a new pooper (http://www.stuartsantiago.com/exposing-manny-villar/) will be political gymnastics worth watching, esp. when their biggest bullet vs Aquino involves exactly that.

Methinks Aquino refused to even dignify his campaign with their involvement (esp. after their attempts to crucify him for Luisita, which is basically like asking a homeowner to clean up poop that you left on his front door) and they came crying to Villar promising juicy ammo vs his biggest rival. Ah Philippine politics, it makes hypocrisy look refreshing.

Just sharing a picture from happier days:

  19. on one end, it’s not really fair for Gibo to be used as a “front” man.

and then, i begin to wonder… binayaran ba si Gibo to be the actor?

  20. vonjovi2 vonjovi2

  21. Mike Mike

As I’ve said in a previous post, Villar is no different from Gloria. The only difference between them is their sex and height. But Gloria couldn’t be too sure of Manny if ever he gets elected as president. Do you think Villar would give up the powers of the president to Gloria? Remember what Villar did to Erap during the impeachment? May pagka-traydor din yan.

  22. manuelbuencamino manuelbuencamino

    Mike,

Sex, height, and MOLE on the cheek.

By the way, a Villar spokesman said Villar was spending his own money so he owes favors to no one.

So ang tanong nang taong bayan, “Paano niya babawiin yun ginastos niya?”

  23. Mike Mike

  24. Champoy Champoy

These front runners doesn’t have clear platforms how they gonna lift the country from GMA’s mess. To be anti- or pro GMA doesn’t hold a thing. We need you to speak up in public how you gonna turn this country from where we are now. Show ways or proofs to guarantee or be believable that you are the wise and better choice to be our next president.

  25. Bonifacio Bonifacio

Re #8 Vic:”..to add spice to the round table…that the Pardon would also meant that Erap will be utilized to “Fragmentize” the Opposition Votes, just in case he would not get disqualified, his votes will surely meant a plus for Villar.”

Even if he is disqualified, it’s possible that he would also endorse Villar.Noynoy’s camp should do something to neutralize that. There are brokers between the Villar and Erap camp working for Erap’s endorsement of Villar in case he is disqualified. Remember Villar’s campaign manager is Ronnie Zamora, former executive secretary of Estrada.

Erap is more amenable to Villar than to Noynoy, many of whose supporters are hardline anti-Erap.

  26. Villar never made it to my presidentiables list.
Following the lead on “sheeeeeet”, Agnes Devanadera, who is running for Congress representing the first district of Quezon province in the May 10 elections, Esperon in Pangasian, Golez, Ermita, etcetera, formerly Palace flunkies of Ate Glue. Who says she will not be Speaker? That’s a lot of loot to finance their campaign.
And this is merely one avenue for Oplan August Moon (not too dainty or august) that could evolve a no-proclamation scenario chaos. So who or what can stop these eventualities? Ideas anyone?

  27. Bonifacio,

Re: Even if he is disqualified, it’s possible that he would also endorse Villar.

You serious? If true, and I can see that it’s potentially true, it will be the worst quirk of nature that Philippinelandia will ever experience — Gloria’s “man” being endorsed by the very same man, i.e., Erap, whose supporters have vowed the political destruction of Gloria.

If that happens, i.e., Erap endorsing Villar, Gloria will be laughing her way to the bank and to the speakership in Congress.

Merde, merde, merde et encore de merde!!!! (Translation: “Shit-a-brick!!!! “)

  28. Neonate,

Neither on mine! Villar’s been eliminated from my list as early as 2001… and by 2004, I’d already burried him.

  29. So who or what can stop these eventualities? Ideas anyone? — neonate

    Let’s ask Aquino… 🙂

  30. I’d rather have Madrigal as president anytime over Villar. 🙂

  31. By the way, a Villar spokesman said Villar was spending his own money so he owes favors to no one.

    Manuel,

Easy to say he’s spending his own money. If I remember rightly, he was able to insert a line in the budget amounting to billions (?) over some ghost land. The twerp is a shithead through and through. He’s just a magnanakaw albeit with a style.

  32. And that money is taxpayers’ blood sweat and tears money. So for Villar to say he’s spending his own money — pigs might as well fly!

  33. Remember Villar’s campaign manager is Ronnie Zamora, former executive secretary of Estrada. — Bonifacio

Is this for real? Ronnie Zamora in the service of Villar? Holy cow!

Never!

    No to Villar!

  38. rose rose

andres..thanks for answering my questions…itatanong ko sana kung paano siya yumaman…akala ko nanalo sa mega lotto..at masuerte siya…marami talaga ang yumaman sa real estate if you know how to play the game..and he did…

    Right on, Andres!

I wouldn’t believe a word Villar says as to how he made is fortune if he insists that he did it through simple sipag and tiyaga… not even if he swears on his mother’s head.

  40. Valdemar Valdemar

My barber blurted out an educated guess, his not so ideal totem pole of the presidentiables he places Villar at the top sitting comfortably with his sipag and taga. He said that Noynoy never had a hair standing for those on the other side of the Luisita fence. He never heard of anything that Noynoy would be proud of except for the fames of his sister, mother and father. Erap? He didnt like what they did to him but he does not want a repeat of those extra curriculars in office. I felt the razor nipped me a little when I asked where he would place Gibbo. I gave him my unusual tip of 10 pesos after he finished my Yul Brynner cut.

  41. andres andres

    Rose,

Talagang yumaman is Villar sa real estate, with the aid of his position.

From P100 to P15,000!!!

God is helping us.

Happy to learn new alias here, Ate Glue, Pandak etc..kahit dito makabawi man lang. On Gibbo, we just proved that high IQ alone would not make you intelligent. He’s over ambitious (pareho sila ni Duds), nagmamadali (parang Cheez) debater (just like Marcos), not for president really. On Villar, hate him full stop. Too long to explain. And Erap, let him endorse Villar, it will backfire, votes will go to LP. I’m counting on to the votes of the undecided which I think will shift to Noy.

  47. christian christian

Switik talaga mag-asawang ‘yan.

  55. tunaypinoy tunaypinoy

The logic is faulty. Arroyo would never side with a party supporting the Left. The Left has been trying to oust her since 2003-2004. This article has no facts. Merely “he said she said”. It is no more than black propaganda from NoyNoy’s camp. This leach of an author, Lito Banayo, has been against Manny Villar for a long time, especially when he was the publiscist of Ping Lacson. After Lacson, he transferred to Chiz Escudero. When Escudero made the fatal move of leaving the presidential race and leaving NPC, Banayo, who was to be a campaign manager, was left without a job and went back to Malaya. At one point, he even applied for the Villar team but was denied.

Manny worked and earned everything he has,a sharp opposite to Noynoy who was given everthing he has.Noynoy is a false Prophet. The game is over. No more silver spoons.not at the expense of the Pilipinos! No more.

Those days are over. Tapos na. No more elites. No more trapos. No more ka-artehan in government. Then and only then, other countries will start taking the Philippines seriously. The influx of world support both by other governments and by multinational corporations will kickstart our commerce, which in turn will allow for community investments in school and various industry, creating a cycle of jobs, skilled workers, revived economy, restored self-respect . This translates to actualized potentials, increased self-worth and self-pride, happier individuals, in-tact families with good family values (hindi na nagnanakawan sa isat-isa), less crimes, cleaner communities, and a First-World Philippines.

If you really know Manny Villar, you know two things – He has a good heart and he is his own man. He will take care of the Pilipinos like he takes care of his family. Noynoy never even had his own family to take care of, and you want him to take care of 90 million Pilipinos. Life is too short. Manny wants to leave this good Earth a better place for his beloved Pilipinos. Secondly, walang pinagkakautangan ng loob si Manny. His decisions as President will not be skewed by political interest of cronies. If Noynoy becomes President, you can count on one thing – His cronies, who have been waiting to take over Malacanang since 2007, will cash in. If nothing else, that you can count on!

Lastly, don’t forget that Noynoy defended the Hacienda-Luisita massacre. Noynoy defended the killing of victims, to include children, who were merely asking for what they were entitled to na ninakaw sa kanila ng mga aquinos and cojuancos. the dynasties of this generation have been the arroyos and the aquinos. With arroyos leaving, the Aquinos are salivating.

Get it in your mind Tama na! Maawa na kayo sa mamamayan. Manny Villar will give the government back to the Pilipinos and restore faith in government. No more elites, no more trapos, no more drama. Just good governance, good economy, good people, having respectable lives. Maawa na kayo sa mamayan. Enough is enough.

I wonder if Gibo would have had a better chance if he was never linked to GMA? he seems fairly intelligent and witty. his only black spot is the fact that he didn’t have the balls to stand up against GMA in the past.

A Gibo-Mar leadership would be very good for the country. both individuals have their own strengths and weaknesses and one would complement the other perfectly. Unfortunately, Gibo has the GMA card to contend with while Mar is currently experiencing some trouble keeping the nearest political butterfly away. Articulateness and intelligence is not enough to get elected in this country.

“The Hacienda Luisita case has been the acid test of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), former president Cory Aquino’s cornerstone program. However, the hacienda’s sugar lands were not handed over to farmworker-beneficiaries, instead, they were given “stocks” of the Hacienda Luisita, Inc., supposedly entitling them with 33% of the total stocks. Thus, the Cojuangcos maintained control of the 6,500-hectare lands through the Stock Distribution Option (SDO) provision of CARP. ”

    http://cpcabrisbane.org/Kasama/2004/V18n4/HaciendaLusita.htm

  79. tunaypinoy tunaypinoy

Stealing from poor farm-workers using loopholes!

“When former president Aquino came to power in 1986 on the wave of opposition to the Marcos dictatorship, she had to promise land reform. The resulting Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) held out the prospect of breaking up large sugar plantations such as the 5,000-hectare Hacienda Luisita.

Aquino, however, protected major landowners, such as her relatives in the Conjuangco family who had purchased the Hacienda Luisita in 1958 with funds supplied by the Central Bank of the Philippines and the Government Service Insurance System. They could evade land redistribution through a loophole in CARP known as the Stock Distribution Option (SDO).

The SDO allowed landowners to classify farm workers and tenants as stockholders or co-owners who would supposedly be given a share of profits. At the same time, there were many ways for landowners to avoid actual profit sharing.”

jpax – you must be Noynoy supporter. Why pikon? Remulla put it best:

“[Noynoy] probably thinks that he has a mandate from heaven to rule that he finds it hard to accept the fact that a former fish vendor from Tondo is credibly challenging him,” he said, referring to Villar, who came second in the survey with 33 percent or just an 11-point difference from Aquino’s 44 percent.

“When you treat the presidency as a family heirloom that you can inherit on a silver platter then you get unnerved when you read the newsflash that your being president is far from being a done deal,”

[Transcript of interview in DZXL with Ely Saludar with Sen. Manny Villar]

  86. tunaypinoy tunaypinoy

ang gulo nyo…the point made was that the Nacionalista Party, led by Villar, spearheaded more important issues against the Arroyo Adminstration.

Villar was #2 behind Miriam Santiago in 2009 with 737 bills and resolutions. Noynoy did not even make the top 10.

Of the 21 Republic Acts or RAs approved by both Houses of Congress and by the Executive during the 14th Congress, Villar authored and co-authored 10 original bills. Noynoy had 2, just ahead of Panfilo Lacson and Jamby Madrigal.

If anything, Noynoy should be removed/fired as a legislator for poor performance.

What a waste.

“…a major highlight in the survey results was that Villar was the choice of the voter-rich Northern Central Luzon, where Aquino had enjoyed a big support in previous SWS surveys. SWS said Villar garnered 41.33 percent in the region, trouncing Aquino who got 31.33 percent. Northern-Central Luzon represents 22.16 percent of the total respondents.”

    tunaypinoy,

  90. Villar is the male version of Gloria:

Primo: fake (kulay ng buhok at nag-pa face lift pa daw! 🙂 )

    Secundo: traydor ang tangna

    Tertio: magnanakaw

    Quatro: Sinungaling

    Hupocrito pa ang gago!

Both sweet-talk members of the left to support them — tapos traydoran (just like what Gloria did to Beltran et al)

Pareho silang (Mag-asawang) traydor, sinungaling, magnanakaw, abusado….

  91. Between Villar and Aquino, I will go for Aquino…

The former has a record of major fraud, robbery, lyings, etc etc.

The latter merely has a shallow Senate record — and I don’t mind that, after all, the Senate is one useless institution that can boast of nothing except being a place for shitheads to grandstand… that Aquino has decided not to grandstand in a futile assembly of dickheads should not be taken against him.

  92. chi chi

Where was Villar then, nagpahinga sa ilalim ng saya ni Gloria?!

This issue alone will not make me vote for him, period!

  97. Huh? Anong klaseng tanong yan?

What is the purpose daw of the tanong?

  98. Filipinos must vote against Manny C5 at Taga Villar!!!

  100. Anna, for your info, those questions are the first two lines of Villar’s very popular campaign jingle. It is so popular indeed that even Sniper, my pet Askal, howls to the tune every time he hears it, and that is about every thirty minutes of Wowowee and again on primetime.

Today’s papers say Villar has spent around 3 to 4 Billion Pesos so far. Note that a 30-sec spot on prime TV costs around P250K.

By his lonesome, Villar has raised the Lopezes’ revenues by at least a billion.

Fuckin’ awesome. Fuckin’ stupid ain’t it?

He’ll have to recoup that one way or the other… no way in hell the man is gonna let that amount of money go without interest… he’ll make more nakaw than Gloria for sure.

  102. chi chi

It’s not Noynoy’s fault if he hadn’t done those. Ipinanganak na mayaman si Noy2 at meron siyang choice, while Villar didn’t have any dahil poor poor daw s’ya. Why take it against Noy2?! Idjiit jingle!

Villar is using the poor against the rich, pinag-iinit sa inggit ang mahihirap. Stupid Villar! Wala siyang ipinagkaiba kay Gloria.

  103. andres andres

We really have bad choices for the presidency this coming elections.

Pero sorry to disappoint the yellow army, I am not also in favor of Noynoy. First of all, siya ay hawak ng mga taong panay sariling interes tulad ng black and white movement, Hyatt 10 and the worse of all, wag natin kalimutan ang kamag-anak inc. noong panahon ni Cory.

Ople said Villar was actually ousted as Senate President for
upholding the independence and defending the integrity of the Senate two years ago, after he allowed the upper chamber to investigate a series of scandals in the Arroyo administration.

“No greater proof of his credentials as a fiscalizer than the coup that unseated him,” Ople said. “It was during Villar’s watch thatscams, scandals and shenanigans were investigated in the Senate in a fair and fearless manner.”

    http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/238187/aquino-camp-urges-principled-campaign

  109. I like Toots Ople — I believe she wears her heart on her sleeve and matter of fact, I would vote for her but to say that [there was] ““No greater proof of his [Villar’s] credentials as a fiscalizer than the coup that unseated him,” is stretching it.

One is tempted to say that such statement smacks of demagoguery but I shall give Toots the benefit of the doubt…

Suffice to say, I don’t believe that Villar’s “unseating” as senate president is a proof that he was a fiscalizer. Very thin proof if ever it is a proof.

The only thing that can convince me that he is fiscalizer is if he fiscalizes himself after he inserted a line in the budget to fraud govt over some ghost land… That would be the biggest proof.

And the best proof that he is a fiscalizer as Toots seems to believe he is, is for him to divest himself of all his business interests while running for office as the law requires those who run for Congress to do and which I’ve learned Villar hasn’t done.

  110. Fiscalizer?

As Erin Tanada asked, “Where was the [Villar’s party] NP during the impeachment of President Arroyo? The NP was nowhere to be found during the impeachment,”

What has Villar accomplished? I have no probleme believing that he has enriched himself and his wife beyong anyone’s wildest dreams during the last so many years using his position… he would have made more had he not been caught.

He is a political opportunist saying one thing and meaning another. He is Gloria all over again!

  111. chi chi

Si Toots naman, please be yourself. You don’t have to act as Villar’s propagandist to win votes.

  112. tunaypinoy tunaypinoy

I can’t blame you guys for being cynical but you have to look way past the obvious. Follow my thoughts for a minute.

How do you suppose someone can lift the country out of corruption and poverty? – Become an independent President free from political influence, right?

How do you suppose someone can become an independent President (operative word is Independent)? – One needs to have enough funds to mount a successful campaign and be free from any influence after succeeding, correct?

*Therefore, we have determined that in order to change the Philippines for the better, we need an Independent President, and that to be an Independent President, one needs plenty of personal funds.

Here’s what we know about Manny:

    – He has a lots of personal funds and he’s using them to have a successful campaign not just to become the President, but to become an independent President.

*By the above logic, we’ve established that Manny has the capacity to realize change for the Philippines [just follow me].

Now that we’ve established his capacity to make real change, what else would we need? We need a decent person with a good-heart.

Here’s what we also know about Manny.

    – He is a family man. He is active with church and shows to have a relationship with God. He takes care of his family. He has no vices. He maintains a simple life and shows to not be blinded by wealth [you wont see him driving a Ferrari].

*By the above, we can say that Manny is likely to be a person with a good heart.

The above two logic tells us that Manny has the capacity to be an Independent President with a good heart.

What else do we need? We need an experienced and an effective manager. This we already know of Manny.

We’ve established that Manny can change the Philippines for the better because he has the capacity to be an Independent President and likely has a good heart.

What about the allegations? I have to say that to me “stealing” has been, so far, counter to all other behaviors he has shown, at least outside politics.

Let’s suppose there were misdeeds – for what? to raise funds maybe? Remember – you need funds to be an Independent President. There lies the dilemma. If you believe Manny to have raised his money by questionable means and this stops you from further considering him, then there goes the only real hope we have of change at this moment. Why? Gibo, Gordon, or Noynoy will be lackeys to their funders therefore could not effect change since they would not be Independent Presidents.

I have to believe for the sake of maintaining hope that the funds Manny has acquired whether legitimate or not, were just means to get to a position where he can effect greater good.

Let’s examine Philippine politics for a moment, with its entrenched politicians and corrupt puppet masters. We have to agree that you have to be pretty savvy to survive the political pool of sharks. Now, rather than think that the allegations against Manny are true, I am more apt to believe that given our historically corrupt government, that the allegations were mere part politics. Remember Estrada warned Villar back then, “don’t run for Senate President, may mga sisira sayo.” Manny knowing that a Senate Presidency would increase his chances on later contending for the Executive Post, went for it. But lurking in the shadows are those threatened by this move. Back in 2007, Roxas has made known his intentions for Presidency. You have a three-way camp situation going-on. One group for Manny, one for Roxas, and one for Arroyo, who’s party would also be fighting for the Presidency. From 2007 to now, attempts were being made to derail Manny from running for the Presidency, done to either earn favors, or as direct attack dogs from the opposing camps.

I can go on and on…but there’s enough there for me to think that the allegations were politically motivated meant to derail Manny’s candidacy and even if the allegations were true, I can foregive that, holding hope that all was done for the greater good, for an Independent President to have the capacity to effect long lasting change for the better.

That’s why I wish for Manny to be President, he’s the only hope we have for realy change at this time. Let’s try him. He’s 60 and I doubt he will run in 2016 if he loses. Noynoy or Gibo can have the Presidency in 2016. Let’s not lose this opportunity for an Independent President who shows to have a good heart, and excellent managerial skills. Not for me, but for the poor children who is holding out for hope.

And if after the first two years, he’s not all that’s cracked out to be…let’s go to the streets. But, we should not let this real opportunity for change pass us by, sayang.

All in your honour to defend Villar but what I find absolutely gobsmacking is your oblique admission that there had been mideeds and for what? To raise funds?

Misdeeds “to raise” funds? [For the presidential elections I presume?] And in your opinion, the misdeeds should be overlooked? Whose greater good would overlooking the misdeeds serve? By the gods of Tutankahmon, what on earth are you saying?

If you are in any way trying to refer to the life of Robin Hood, I would like to remind you that legend has it that he lived the life of a pauper and did not own the billions that he stole from the rich!

Good God! Misdeeds should be forgiven? Good Lord! Stealing, cheating, lying by any other name is stealing, cheating, lying… Full stop!

  115. Pardon me but having Villar for president is one real opportunity I’d pass up anytime, anywhere, whatever…

AdeBrux – again you don’t have to agree. I still hold out hope that there are good people in this world. Yes, there are many philanthropist that give out huge amount of money regularly just to do good. The above were mere suppositions, no life was sacrificed nor animals harmed in these suppositions. I’m not asking you to agree, I’m just holding out hope for a better future.

  117. tunaypinoy tunaypinoy

AdeBrux – it’s odd how you just focused on what you wanted to see. I did not give you “oblique admissions.” Instead, I gave you suppositions if the allegations were true not that they were true and I also told you that I am more apt to believe that the allegations were false and politically motivated by the reasons I gave. You write intelligently enough, I would hope that you can make an intelligent dissection of what was written. Not just pick out what you want to hear.

  118. Ok, TnP… point taken.

But you must admit that you yourself opened the door widely, because of your own “supposition”, i.e., misdeeds might/perhaps have been committed because of a noble motive (???) — thus openning the way for me to pick out what I heard

A misdeed must be considered a misdeed.

If we deviate an iota from considering a misdeed is a misdeed and must be punished — particularly at the level of Villar and his likes, eg., Gloria, where and how do we expect the Philippines to get out of the limbo it finds itself in?

The mere fact that we might even consider forgiving a misdeed at that level [Villar’s]– for a, what did you say again? A potentially noble motive? is something that’s frankly surprising!

We might as well forgive Gloria for cheating in the elections (which she claims to be not true) — because if ever, she will claim that her motive was noble, justified she can claim that by allowing FPJ to win would put the country backwards again.

Good God….this cannot be right, can it?

Let me end this by saying that my “what if” scenarios are mere concoctions in my head based on newspapers I continue to read. The presented “what if scenario” points to the allegations as politically motivated attempts to tarnish Villar’s Integrity.

Having said that, I am left in concluding that Manny Villar is in a very good position to be an Independent President, who has a good heart, the necessary Integrity, and the excellent managerial skills set needed to effecting real long term positive change. Manny Villar is the ideal Person who can restore dignity to the lives of the poor Pilipinos. That’s my reason for choosing Manny Villar as my next President whether or not folks agree.

OK yan Tunaypinoy. At the end of the day, that’s what democracy is all about. We can always agree to disagree but the bottomline is, we respect each other’s individual choice.

  121. andres andres

    tunaypinoy,

we respect each others opinion here, kaya lang masyado kang hardsell kay Manny Villar kaya ka inuupakan ng mga yellow army dito. para kang empleyado niya the way ka magsulat kasi ang hahaba. just an observation.

    peace bro!

We can all agree or disagree who is the best candidate, but then, are we even suyur (sure) that real/true votes of the people will be counted accordingly.

I watched on tv Mr Jun Lozada (the wistleblower) sort of making a walkthrough of the entire electronic voting system, and he came up with some stages/process where there can be a way for manipulation of results. He said suggestions to correct them were denied by comelec.

  123. 3 billion for election campaign…if VIllar wins, he’ll just be proving that Filipinos can be bought – “pera pera lang yan” its something to add to Erap’s “weather weather lang yan.”
