Close talaga sila, ano.

  1. A statement of the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility and the Southeast Asian Press Alliance on the 100th day of the Ampatuan Massacre

    Lest We Forget

A hundred days have passed since the massacre of 32 journalists and media workers in Maguindanao, Southern Philippines, together with 26 others. The principal suspect has been indicted. But the petition for bail of the alleged mastermind has been the subject of several postponements, in a portent of things to come that’s not encouraging for the demand for justice for the victims.

The urgent demand for justice is in danger of foundering on the shoals of the technicalities that-together with police collusion at the local levels in the killing of journalists, overworked prosecutors who fear for their safety, and the involvement of local officials and warlords-constitute the many weaknesses of the Philippine justice system. Equally distressing is the information, relayed by one of the private lawyers helping prosecute the case, that witnesses are being bought if not threatened, and that relatives are being offered amounts that few mortals in the Philippine community setting can refuse in exchange for withdrawing their complaints.

Add public indifference and resignation, and the mass media’s own short attention span and susceptibility to the lure of reporting those events that help boost ratings and circulations to these problems and issues, and we have the potential for the massacre’s not only going unpunished, but even forgotten.

Forgetfulness is among the worst vices of a people whom the media have failed to provide information crucial to their lives. And yet, forgetfulness is the sure guarantee for the repetition of such atrocities as the Ampatuan massacre, the human rights violations that continue to haunt this country, and the constant peril of authoritarian rule. Only by remembering the past can we prevent its repetition.

The media are among the institutions crucial to the fostering of the imperative of keeping in the public mind the need for justice in the Ampatuan massacre and for the making of a culture of remembrance. But the public as a whole needs to support the campaign to keep the Ampatuan massacre in the national agenda as an issue that needs resolution. As we enter the fourth month since that atrocity, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility and the Southeast Asian Press Alliance renew their pledge never to forget and to continue to remind the Philippine public and the international community that the pro-active engagement of a militant people and a truly free and responsible press can prevent the many crimes and atrocities that haunt this country, among them the killing of journalists, from going unpunished and even repeated.

  2. The nation, the world, the general public, every single person mustn’t allow the perpetrators of this crime to go unpunished.

And I agree wholeheartedly that this massacre issue must be kept alive until those criminals are hanged, drawn and quartered.

Members of the judiciary must stay focus and do their job. If they can’t, they must resign and be put away never to be heard from again.

I guess Gloria and company wouldn’t give a damn since they’re gonna be on their way out after the elections. It will be the problem of the next administration. And IF by chance (?) she gets elected PM, she will definitely drop these Ampatuan like hot potatoes coz by then, her grip on power will as strong as welded epoxy and won’t need their (Ampatuans) services anymore and she wouldn’t care less if they would rant on her about the previous election cheatings Pampangga nalang ang aalagaan niya.

Let’s just choose between Noynoy and Erap.

The report was Fortun received P20 to P30M just for acceptance fee.

..Sir fried: your soul will be fried in hell…anong klaseng hayop kayo? ang isang tao na may konsensiya ay hindi gagawa ng ginagawa mo..sana ma delete na kayo sa mundo.. happy rin ba ang pamilya mo? with the help of gloria your clients will be freed…hindi dahil sa galing mo..hindi sa talino mo…kung makalaya ang mga clients mo it is not because matalino at magaling ka…but you will lose your soul to gloria’s store…Satan will welcome you with open arms..he is waiting for you…and I hope soon and very soon it will be done..tapos ka na sa Mayo 10..just you wait and see…hurry up and meet Satan..don’t disappoint him..sayang lang ang mga dasal ng pamilya mo kung nagdadasal man sila..sayang! na sayang ka!

Not to worry kasi balita ko may pagka-bingi yata si Fortun kaya may discount si Ampatuan pagdating sa mga “hearing”.

Kidding aside, in a democratic society like ours is, it is a (sad) fact that no matter how heinous the crime committed, the perpetrator(s) have the right to their own defense, hire the best lawyers money can buy, and plead “NOT GUILTY” kahit na mas maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw at libong testigo ang naka-saksi na sila talaga ang may kagagawan. Worse, it is even harder to prosecute criminals who are known buddies of gloria and her Malacanang MAFIA .

The fact remains that he still has to defend a client even if that would make him public-enemy #1.

Makes me wonder, what would make a lawyer accept the role of counsel for defense if deep in him, the defendant is guilty beyond reasonable doubt ? Could it be merits of the case (assuming there are any) ? Or is it plain and simple money ? Kasi kung maluluto lang at pakakawalan rin lang si Ampatuan et al, better set them free (and then let a sniper shoot him in the head), save taxpayers’ money for a sham trial that would surely drag on for nothing, and not let Fortun to earn his millions.

  8. Don’t worry about Fortun. At least with him, it’s clear that he is the defense lawyer.

Worry more about the government prosecutors who are being suspected of purposely bungling the case.

  9. Si Gloria ay “INA” ni Unsay. At si Datu Andal ay “AMA” ni Gloria at Unsay. Ayos.

  10. rose rose

makakalaya sila Ampatuans not because matalino at magaling si Atty. Fortune..it is also not because marami silang pera..not because takot ang mga witnesses..the simple truth is ka pamilia sila ni Gloria Macapagal Arroyo..sinong anak ang magpapahamak sa Ama? not gloria! sinong ina ang pahahamak sa anak? not gloria! sinong Ama ang pagpapahamak sa anak? not Ampatuan Sr! Iisang familia sila..tama si Ellen..hayaan nalang natin si Atty. Fortune..he is just doing his job..at si gloria? hahayaan din ba? ang kasagutan ay nasa mga taumbayan..are they going to let gloria stay? we will see what happens sa May..May Cinco de Mayo..would May 10 be a freedom day for the Phil.? malapit na.. something to think about…will it be freedom day? or doom’s day? .. free choice..

“……….pakakawalan rin lang si Ampatuan et al, better set them free (and then let a sniper shoot him in the head),…”

Nice suggestion. A very practical and resourceful way of eliminating the kind of Ampatuans and Pidals.

    Any volunteer?

as far as I’m concerned, the Ampatuans are psychopaths. The so-called justice system can only do so much. The only solution for me is to really and truly dis-arm them. Then put them all in an island surrounded by killer sharks and let them live there as they will.
