As the partial results of the May 10 polls continued to trickle in, Senator Manuel Villar Jr. on Tuesday congratulated his rival, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, the Liberal Party’s standard bearer who is leading the presidential race by a growing margin.

I congratulate Senator Noynoy Aquino on his victory. The challenges he and our country faces are enormous and we should all work together,” he said, reading a prepared statement during a press conference in Mandaluyong City.
For Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, the fight for the vice-presidency is not yet over despite the lead being enjoyed by Makati mayor Jejomar Binay.

Roxas still confident of winning

“The race as between me and my closest competitor is indeed very tight. However, it is not for me, or anybody for that matter, to say if we’ve already lost,” Roxas said in a statement.

Roxas noted that the partial and official tally of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of 3:57 p.m. was based only on roughly 85 percent of all election returns.

“This means roughly five million voters in more than 11,000 precincts have yet to be taken into consideration,” he said.

Roughly half of the 11,000 precincts are expected to come from regions considered as bailiwicks of the Liberal Party, Roxas’ political group where he is in tandem with Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, the leading presidential candidate.

“This just underscores that the fight is not yet over, and we should remain vigilant,” Roxas said.

According to GMA Network’s partial and unofficial tally as of 10:19 a.m. on Tuesday, Aquino remained at the top spot with 12,587,583 votes. Villar ranked third with 4,477,279 votes. Aquino and Villar were the fiercest contenders throughout the three-month presidential campaign.

The latest tally showed former president Joseph Estrada in second place with 7,749,597 votes.

Villar thanked his party mates at the Nacionalista Party and supporters who supported his presidential bid, and said he would continue working for the welfare of the poor.

Ito ay aking ipagpapatuloy bagama’t sa ibang paraan,” he said in a sober tone.

Villar, the sole billionaire among the presidential bets, is said to be the biggest spender in presidential campaigns. On Tuesday, he expressed sadness about the allegations and negative propaganda that have hounded him throughout his campaign.

Villar smiled but declined to take questions from the reporters, leaving the Nacionalista Party headquarters immediately after the press briefing. — LBG/RSJ GMANews.TV

After this resounding defeat, Villar just goes back to the Senate. And so does Loren?

The system is so unfair. All the advantages to sitting senators and congressmen. All the disadvantages to those fresh new faces wanting to get in.

  4. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

And Teodoro also concedes but says he may seek public office again in new system of government. Meaning he wants a Parliamentary form of government..just like his beloved Gloria.

I don’t blame the guy. All that huffing and puffing and blood, sweat and tears… and he still couldn’t convince the voters nationwide that he is better than all the rest.

What lesson is learned from this Noynoy landslide victory? and Villar’s landslide slide?

The people are smarter than how Villar and his strategists assumed them to be.

They went for Villar at first, won over by the beautifully crafted ads. But once the people realized these were lies, they quickly dropped the guy.

The people wanted someone they could trust.. plain and simple.

Noynoy’s simplicity, unfashionista-like manner of dress and rather awkward body moves I think endeared him more to the public.

Phil Cruz, yep, I just saw Gibo on TV saying that he wants a new form of government. What’s the matter with him? He’s going to be on the wrong side of history again. We Pinoys want direct participation in choosing our political leaders; we will never go for a parliamentary form of government. When will people like him learn?

We cannot have a parliament when the disparity between the rich and the poor is as big as what we have here in the Philippines. Parliaments only work in a more “civilized” society where money doesn’t play such a humongous role in choosing leaders.

Wow, I do hope he has a change of heart. He seems (to me) a decent guy and would readily vote for him if he decides to make a run for the senate in 2013.

Bilangin niyo yung magic twelve, at yung incumbents. Lamang na ang pro-Glue.

Ang House, tiyak na makakakuha sila ng one-third, if not the majority.

Kanya pa yung CJ, a la Davide noong time ni Erap.

Ngayon, back to the legislature sila. Palagay niyo ba loyal sila kay Noy? Yung tumalo kay Villar? So what? Di ba’t Villaroyo siya?

  9. Lurker Lurker

They have already underestimated Aquino earlier by allowing Erap to run hoping that the latter will be able to take a large chunk of votes from Aquino so that Villar can be within striking distance. If they think Aquino is that naive, they have another think coming. I remember her enemies belittling Cory’s staying power. They all failed misrably to oust her. The Aquinos are made of sterner stuff.

I DIDNT VOTE FOR THE CONGRESSMAN in Mandaluyong CITY.

All the allegations of wrongdoings against Villar should now be pursued until cleared…or it will hang in the doubt forever…also the promise of Aquino to establish a Commission to investigate all the allegations of Wrongdoings of GMA administration should also be put into action or he will be hounded the same as we critiques of GMA and Villar did both during the her administration and during the Campaign.

As for Teodoro suggestion of “desynchronizing” the Election, I think it is a Very Good Idea as it has been in practice in most countries and it help ease the gridlock and glitches. And of Cha-cha, why not, this current form is not working in bringing Progress to the nation and what is Wrong with Parliamentary, anyways? Just limit the Parties to at most Three, otherwise it will be another Free for all…and forget about the Party-List,,,the country doesn’t need any more Mickeys…

  13. chi chi

I believe that it’s the people who will decide on the parliamentary system of Gloria and Gibo.

  15. chi chi

Belmote is eagerly working for house speakership. Meron kalaban si unana.

  16. gusa77 gusa77
