Ang Porsche ni PNoy

Inspecting his latest toy

Nababahala.

  1. Ellen,

    Transfer ko my comment ha…

    Hi Ellen,

I don’t think he stole money from the state coffers to buy the Porsche — don’t thinki any of the sort but what would be good is for him to account for the purchase. He is the president of the Philippines who campaigned on a platform of truth and transparency.

He must show where he got the funds to buy a Porsche. If he does, he can call every single member of the political world to account too for every expenditure they make that’s not in keeping with what they earn or make.

If he is indeed very rich and has the means to buy a multi-million peso high performance car (let’s forget about the propriety of driving around in a Porsche in a city where slums abound), it would be quite easy for him to account for the purchase. He must lead by example…

I would demand of Merkel the same thing in Germany (where Porsches are fairly ordinary but they are not in Pinas, or am I wrong? That Porsches are a dime a dozen in Pinas now?)

He could show his income tax return to prove that he has or had the income to pay for this kind of car. It would be setting the right example. Tax evasion can be resolved if ordinary people can be challenged to prove that their income is legit and that they pay the right income tax but most importantly that their income allows them to buy multi-million peso toys.

Pinoys would be happy to let him brooooooom broooooom his big toy in a “tuwid na landas”, hindi sa patuwad. 🙂

  3. President must lead by example. He then can call every politico in town to do the same. Show that whatever luxury purchase they make comes from income that is legit and for which they’ve paid appropriate taxes. An extraordinary opportunity for Aquino to inspire everyone to show proof that the’re not tax evaders. He must be able to defend his multi-milluon purchase purchase concretely and not with some general propaganda line “We’re rich and can pay for it!” (Heard that one from Mikey Arroyo, remember?)

If a leader shows Bad Taste in his judgement, then what kind of leader is he? President Aquino has still a lot to prove and as far as his campaign promises go, most of them have not shown any tangible result, except perhaps the elimination of the “wang, wang” and the Momentary pause in scandal allegations, but that was somehow offset by a few blunders and indiscretions by the member of his staff…

This latest acquisition of a pre-owned sports car, which by any standard is highly priced,(unless it is a premium model of 911s), is not proper at this time when he himself is preaching austerity, pledging no new taxes, while cutting government expense… If he is a leader of the First World and as rich as he is, that act would not even worth a mention in the media or in the coffee shop, unless he get caught doing a stunt or driving around with miss Barbra Streisand in the passenger seat or Leona Boyd, or Margot Kidder (during her prime)but the Philippines is not there yet…that is his First Priority and maybe that time, i would not say a world if i see him in Ferrari Enzo or in Red Maserati…

  5. Spot on, Vic.

    As Confucius said,

“In a country well governed poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed wealth is something to be ashamed of.”

  6. Vic are you on Facebook?

If Aquino is really for Good Government, he will appoint a non-partisan, non-politically influenced, and independent chair to man our COMELEC, an independent institution that handles our election! Magandang simula ito if he can but shortlisting two known personalities, one with association to the previous administration who stole the presidency, the other connected to another political group, both are known to be politically influenced and partisan is beyond me and insensitive after promising GOOD GOVERNMENT! Not to mention for not making a very clear position to administratively discipline erring prosecutors involved in the scandalous extortion ploy related to the hostage crises, and the garcia case much more when the people are clamoring for the impeachment of mercy walang awa!

If a leader shows Bad Taste in his judgement, then what kind of leader is he? -Vic

In my vocabulary, Pnoy is not a leader, it just happened that he was elected. So I really don’t expect much from him in terms of right and wrong judgment/choice. But he’s the one we’ve got so he might just as well learn fast (if he has the ability to learn) the ways to becoming a good leader.

And yes, Anna is so right in her comment that Pnoy must show the documents re purchase of the car to show that he stands above Gloria. Do it now and part of people’s negative perception will be gone, but I doubt it will erase the ‘insensitivity’ aspect created from buying that Porsche.

People talk about his girls, his car, and about his gun (the Glock, not the other gun).

Kanya-kanyang response yan to the F word (fifty). Some buy a new car, some take on a new sport, some pursue a new career, others a new girl. Ang nakayanan ko lang, some new books.

Let us talk about his Presidency. I really have no interest in his toys.

The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. (Unknown Author)

  10. Don’t care mcuh about his girls or his taste in toys, what I care about is proof that money he spent for his luxury items came from his income.

  11. Part and parcel of good governance.

  13. Chi,

Actually, am not anti-Pres Aquino, that despite all these things, I’m still hopeful that he will soon prove to be a leader in the real sense of the term. He’s been elected to the post despite some shortcomings (if we are to believe he has shortcomings 😉 ), he wanted the job, he got it, now he must prove he deserves it.

  14. And right you are, while he is president, he will always have to answer issue of values, eg., the propriety of spending millions on a toy in a country, nay, in a city where slums abound and from where a vast majority probably don’t have 3 square meals a day.

  15. Mike Mike

What if one day, PNoy would announced that he will spend millions to transplant/ restore hairs on his shiny head. Would that be an issue too?
    😛

  16. Hahahaha… Mike, that will be a stupid thing for him to do. People have known him with little hair and have either liked him or not for it; he’ll be the but of jokes worldwide.

  17. And frankly, balding or not balding to me is not an issue, if he’s good at his job, that’s what matters.

  18. Mike Mike

Anna, you think that’d be a stupid thing to do? He has nice expensive Porsche, so why not a full hair to go with it? 😛

  19. Because I don’t think more hair on his head will make him more handsome so would be a terrible waste of money… 😛 😛 😛 😛

  20. chi chi

Hahahahaha@Mike! Pwede ba kalbo na lang, his bald head is his trademark…tsaka may personality sya na kunwari ay marunong kung kalbo. Ayyyyy naku, sori folks pero may dalang positive perception yan bald head nya, yahahaha! 🙂

  21. henry90 henry90

    Anna:

The acquisition of the latest “toy” will be reflected in the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth(SALN) which is due for filing by March this year. The same is true with the filing of his Income Tax returns.

  22. People should look at Noynoy’s financial transactions just as they look at financial transaction of purchasing-manager this, general-that or any other person in high position.

An influence-peddler can sell a condominium to Usec-this or Secretary-that at a huge discount with the understanding that the discount gets returned as lucrative government contracts. So it is reasonable to ask — who did President Noynoy buy the car from? Did President Noynoy get a big big discount?

  23. Thanks Henry!

    Tingog boss has a point.

  24. henry90 henry90

People talk about transparency very loosely nowadays. The acquisition of the Porsche was discovered by media and acknowledged by no less than Aquino himself. Contrast that to the unexplained wealth of Arroyo’s family for the past 9 years that GMA was President. Was she as rich as Aquino before she became President? She was very good at using dummies to launder the fruits of the many anomalous deals she and the Fatso got involved with. People knew Aquino’s weaknesses for guns and fast cars even before he became President. In spite of the black propaganda his critics peddled against him, he still won with a convincing mandate.
But his critics will always take issue with anything he does forgetting to realize perhaps that like all human beings, he will always have some ‘weaknesses’. But no, he can’t have those. He’s President. So, tell that to Kennedy and Clinton, whose appetite for sex are legendary. Did it affect their level of governance? Ditto with Macoy and Erap, Tabako and GMA. Were they transparent with their acquired wealth during their incumbency? No sir. But people get to find out through media. Well and good. No wonder people get amused with the Porsche thingy. Some even had the gall to compare this ‘lack of delicadeza’ with GMAs Le Cirque dinner in New York dahil wala naman daw ginastos si GMA na kusing at sponsored naman daw ni Congressman ganito. What short memory! It was Ex-USEC Medy Poblador, GMAs bagwoman who paid the bill.

Media will always try to dig up yung pinakatago-tago ng sinumang Presidente. Fair enough. People are discerning though. No amount of makeover or propaganda can make people believe what others want them to believe. The last election is proof of that. His critics will never have the satisfaction of seeing Aquino repudiated through the ballot. They will have to content themselves with bashing him through blogs and the social networking sites and hope he gets impeached. 😛

  25. From Hermie Untalan:

The Porsche sports car is not for a president even if he can afford more that 3 or 4 sports car. And why so?

Cars such as the Porsche are not designed for presidents. They are designed for sports people who want to capture nice girls for fun and courtship. These guys are not presidents. They are sportsmen and hunters of the opposite sex.

Why don’t we ask politicians receipts for purchase of their helicopters, which they couldn’t even fly themselves? Senators with fleet of cars in their compounds. Congress people with Rolls Royce and expensive cars and mansions. All the way down to the barangay capitan. That would be real transparency. Good Lord….this is a corrupt country with mostly corrupt politicians pacing the halls of congress for god knows when.

  29. tru blue tru blue

#27: PNoy is single. Maybe a porsche will make a difference. If his being a leader of a nation is not enough to attract a very nice lady…maybe a sportscar will.

Apo Macoy’s 1986 Blueish SEC Benz Sedan…which was bought by the Engelstadt family; had been on display at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The owner of the casino…the Engelstadt family was selling it for $65k. Why so expensive? The tag indicated, it was owned by a former dictator and it’s Bullet Proof.

    Unsure if it’s still there.

    Henry #26:
Impeach PNoy? That’s the last thing I want to happen to PNoy. His incompetence is nothing compared to Gloria’s crimes. I just want him to succeed in his quest for the “matuwid na landas”. And another thing, I also am not ready to have the first black president yet.
😛 Sa Makati nga ayaw nang bitawan ang pwesto at ginawa ng family empire what more kapag naging presidente na. 🙁

  32. Mike Mike

  33. all these people making mountains out of molehills, personally i’d want my leader to have the best car in the block, who wants a leader who is more miserable than you are?
he’s 50+, single, that alone shows that he doesn’t care about what other people say about him nor about the pressures of society to conform to its mold – so for those who are too petty to focus on “real”, worthwhile issues, get ready for more heartbreak because the guy is not here to live up to your expectations but to the 15million or so who outnumber you – losers. if you like you save up and buy your own cars, just because you can’t afford to buy one doesn’t mean everybody has to live down to your level. sheesh!

  34. honestly, all he has to do is ask and i know a thousand people who will be tripping on each others foot just to give him a brand new car several times more expensive than this per owned one. in their standards buying anything second hand is deplorable.

Anyway,a Porsche is not presidential. That speaks a lot about PNoy.

But sana bawiin na lang sana niya sa competence in running the government. Sana.

  43. This is humiliating, its shameful, we’ve lost prestige already! before we were up in arms re ZTE, etc, we were talking billions!

Mikey “d little swine” Arroyo took a brief case from a certain General B—–g in the amount of 5million at the newly built San Lazaro Racetrack a year ago. A hueteng share of the Arroyo’s….receipt please?! And how often these types of drop offs during Gluerilla’s nine year reign materialized…your surmises are as good as mine.

  45. henry90 henry90

Aquino’s critics forgot that he did not profess vows of celibacy and poverty when he took the oath. Or maybe the critics would want him to part with his millions and just donate it to charity? The poor fellow, just like the rest of us, doesn’t even know if he gets to live the following day, just like any ordinary mortal. Let him spend his millions. The trappings of the Presidency would not do him any good if death beckons. His craving for something that is akin to your must haves is no different from the ordinary employee’s wish list for an IPhone4 or an IPad, even if these are beyond his/her means. Tell me, who is not guilty of this among us? Becoming President did not make him less human than all of us. 😛

  46. vic vic

as a private citizens, Aquino can do anything with his own money and no one will raise an eyebrow…but as a President, every peso he spends is subject to speculation, questions and barber shop subject for jokes or intelligent discussion…it is also subject for looks for conflict of interest..who knows if is a favour in exchange for the same…other than the question of why a President who is extolling belt tightening from his people would loosen his as if he is just “joking”..is he serious or not?

Of course he can go out and get himself a Ferrari Enzo for $700 thousands as long as he is ready to take all the speculations, questions, and critizism and even personal insults from his severist critiques then as most would say, it his own money…so be it.

  47. I go with Vic… question of values and all.

  48. Incidentally, I was asked on FB if UK PM Cameron would buy himself a Porsche.

I said I didn’t think so. Firstly, to Cameron, the PM of one of the most powerful nations in the world and one who comes from an old rich family, and who himself is personally very wealthy having inherited a vast fortune (same with his wife who is an heiress) would find it, I think, much too nouveau riche (new moneyed class) to own one even if perhaps he might want to drive one (he’s very young).

Secondly, being an astute politician, and one with first class intelligent brain, he knows it would be a political disadvantage to do something of the sort particularly at a time when he is cutting down welfare subsidies for the poor. It would be an incomprehensible act not only to the Brits but to most in Europe.

The public would nail him to the mast of Westminster for being insensitive.

But I guess it’s all a question of values.

  49. the reality of it is, most of the people don’t give a hoot about what car he’s drving. if we allowed the arroyos, the marcoses, etc, to get away with murder – this is very petty indeed.

  50. and as long as he didn’t steal, its not worth wasting precious time on. in the 10 commandments nothing is mentioned about “thou shalt not buy a porsche” and what particular value are we talking about here? humility? if he bought a vios some would still call it media gimmick, you can’t please everybody and as long as you are not hurting anyone, do what makes you happy life is too short – especially for chain smokers. 🙂

  51. Jug, as I said, question of values…

  52. From Flor Manabat:

  54. Chi’s comments mistakenly posted in another topic:

jug, in line with your nakakatawang comments, meron sa wall ni Mang Juan Pinoy sa FB na comment na humagalpak ako ng tawa. Best comment ever re PNoy’s purchase of Porshe, 🙂 🙂 🙂

  55. Re:

    Ellen,

Sorry, I don’t understand this mentality, naive and “dangerous” and almost idiotic.

Just because some politico or political propagandist said he/she/politico or family of politico was rich, i.e., Mikey Arroyo or Iggy Arroyo saying “We can afford it we are rich” should be taken at face value.

Thing is for these individual politicians to prove that they got their wealth most legally or that their frivolous items came from income for which they’ve paid taxes appropriately.

How on earth could they assume that the guy who came from a wealthy family would himself be rich. There are many once wealthy families who have become poor and don’t have the means to do as they please yet go around masquerading as if they still had the money trying to impress those who would never know where to look in the first place.

    Sigh… different values indeed.

    I’m simply gobsmacked!!!

  56. From Rey Arcilla, who is a technical writer working abroad (not the former diplomat who writes a column in Malaya):

Nagtuturuan. Lahat takot mawala sa puesto.

  57. From Vic Fernandez working in Kuwait:

  58. From Jose Caoili:

Well, if you ask me, none yet.

But I know of one country that’s very poor but whose leader is flamboyant and who goes around parading his very expensive cars through the slums of his nation’s capital, Mugabe of Zimbabwe (and of course former Baby Doc Duvalier of Haiti).

While the debate continues to rage on whether or not the most powerful man in the country is entitled to own one of the most powerful cars in the world, it should be pointed out that aside from respecting the local automotive industry by buying a legitimate tax-paid model, road safety advocates feel that at least the President has shown responsible ownership by attending a certified driver training program and chosen to enjoy his new toy in a safe and controlled environment. http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=648864&publicationSubCategoryId=63

    Anna @51:
PM Cameron is a Leader of the Party, I believe it is the Labour Party that is in government now in UK..so everything he may personally do that might affect the party in the polls, has to be consulted with the party executives as that could create conflicts within the party…a Party Leader one very Poor personal judgement can drag the whole party in the next election..and other elelected members might not like it their chances of re-election might get compromise on the action of their Leader. The Conservatives and other oppositions just waiting for such issues..buying a Porsche may not an issue, but is it necessary? or why take chances? Just give our PM a piano and he’s happy…or he’ll buy it himself, and i don’t anybody will be complaining..everyone likes it when he does play in public..

  65. Vic,

Incompetent Labour got trounced in last year’s general election (and good riddance too). David Cameron is the UK prime minister today. There is a coalition govt composed of Conservative and Lib Dems.

Cameron has been seen biking to Downing Street. Might be just a gimmick but I don’t believe he’ll be caught driving to work in a Porsche.

  66. “Joined by just two of his closest advisers and a handful of invited guests, our source who was there at the track described the President as an above average driver and a very quick learner.” -Philstar article

I wish the same thing could be said in governance.

  67. Just wouldn’t wash with the public (and the press) when UK government today is trying desperately to cut down on expenses and worse, cutting down welfare subsidies.

As we speak, UK MoD is even selling its excess armoured Range Rovers and other equipment to save money — imagine the PM buying a Porsche (a foreign car to boot), won’t wash even with his own money (of which he’s got plenty) or his own salary which is 100x the salary RP president makes.

All a question of values really.

Another thing, cousin of Mr Aquino is doing NGO work (Gawad Kalinga), building houses for the poor, going worldwide asking for donations to house the poor (my brother is doing some volunteer work for them) — it looks a bit out of proportion when president’s cousin is going all over the world requesting for donations while president is out buying a Porsche.

  68. Oops, sorry, Cameron’s salary is 10x that of Aquino.

  69. Camerion makes 150K GBP; PM’s salary was cut last year from almost 200K GBP (roughly 300 thousand dollars a year). I think Mr Aquino makes 60K Pesos or 1,000 euros a month (12,000 euros yearly or equivalent to some 10 thousand British pounds) which is about 900 Great British Stirling Pounds monthly (less than what a Pinoy domestic helper makes monthly in the UK.

  70. Annual salary of President Sarkozy is a bit higher: EUR 231,972 (of which he takes home less than 50% after taxes.)

Cameron’s take home is about 75K after taxes.

  74. From Perry Diaz:

Ernesto M. Maceda, Porsche enthusiasts who hang out at Burgos Circle at Global City said, “that 2nd hand Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera would sell at P7.5 million, definitely, not P4.5 million as President Noynoy claimed.”

Indeed, Maceda had several unanswered questions: How much did P-Noy really pay for it? Or was it really a gift from some big, rich businessman friend? P-Noy should now reveal who sold it to him and how he paid for it if he did, by check or in cash? Did he check if it was tax paid? Did it enter the country thru the port of Manila, Cebu, Subic or Cagayan CEZA?

And, interestingly, Maceda added, “Chris Tiu, the biggest ‘importer’ of Porsche and other luxury cars thru the Port of Cebu has been appointed vice president for marketing of Pagcor. That’s a great leap from car salesman to vice president for marketing of a P100-billion corporation.” Coincidence? Or…

  75. Re Ellen’s Maceda link:

    Maceda has a point.

“Chris Tiu, the biggest ‘importer’ of Porsche and other luxury cars thru the Port of Cebu has been appointed vice president for marketing of Pagcor.

    Oh-oh!

  76. Would’ve better tactic to immediately show how he paid for Porsche and if appropriate taxes were/had been paid for. Why couldn’t his handlers have advised him to do this?

Of course there would be detractors even if had shown and justified his purchase as all being above board but any suspicion of malfaisaince, eg., part gift, part whatever, tax evasion suspicions, part favour, part whatever, etc., would have been minimised.

We elected this president to be the anti-thesis of the Arroyo crab family, not asking nor expecting favours, and to be remotely beyond suspicion and to take the presidency as one serious, very serious, dignified position.

I realise they are gargantuan expectations but Mr Aquino wanted the job, fought hard for the job and got it, now he’s got to prove that he is worthy of the job and must deliver, i.e., that he will be and will always try to be beyond reproach to the best of his abilities.

  77. Had he perhaps not committed blunders early on and had he acted with professionalism, or tried hard to be professional from the very beginning (beginning on August 23), people would have been a bit more lenient with him (me included).

  78. For starters, whether he is a bachelor, married, divorced, separated, an eunuch, or whatever, the president of the republic must not go to girlie bars when on state visit, eg., Vietnam.

  79. henry90 henry90

    Anna:

If we can’t accept anything the President says at face value, what gives? Knowing how nosy media is, (I don’t consider Maceda as one, showbiz columnist pwede pa), if what the naysayers are true, pumuok na sana yan. Media pa! All Maceda, et al are feeding us are half-truths, designed to tickle our fertile imaginations. No wonder Erap lost with him as propagandist. 😛

  80. Funny comment in the “Noisy Minority” over on FB:

Kaya pla ang gusto ay “Daang Matuwid” — para dire-diretso ang PORSCHE..!

  81. Henry,

I referred to the general fact that people accept at face value when a propagandist says that a politician is wealthy or when a politician himself proclaims that he/his family could afford a certain luxury because they’re rich.

If you also noticed, I didn’t comment much on Maceda’s article save for “Oh-oh!” which in fact mean, “here comes trouble!” So, easy now, cowboy!

And by the way, what has Aquino said that we should take at face value with regard to his Porsche? Has he too proclaimed that he is filthy rich that he can buy a Porsche anytime (like Iggy Arroyo’s pronouncement)?

I’m afraid it would be frivolous of me to accept that sort of declaration without proof that he is indeed “filthy” rich personally.

And because wealth is relative, it doesn’t always follow that because his cousin, eg., Conjuangco, is rich that he too is rich and it doesn’t follow that because he is a shareholder in a hacienda that he personally is rich. In any case, as a politician and as president of this country, he is morally bound to be above suspicion and it is an easy matter for him to allay suspicions that the transaction has not been all that above board by rendering it transparent.

    What is wrong with that?

On the contrary, this is an opportunity for him to show the way and set the example to all the members of the political world who we all know are not exactly squeaky clean. Could only be to his advantage.

On the question of propriety, I repeat, I find it a bit out of place for the president of the republic of a nation with a vast number of impoverished and homeless people to be parading his purchase, and all the more so when his own cousin working with an NGO travels worldwide seeking donations from OFWs to help build houses for homeless familes.

  82. And Henry, the girlie bar bit in Vietnam when he was on a state visit there did not come from Maceda!

  83. NFA rice NFA rice

This would be a non-issue had he not advertised himself as ‘modest’ or demonstrated adroitness in politics in the past seven months. Remember the New York hotdogs photo ops and his excited talks about his real or imagined romances?

On another hand, why would we care about the President’s private life if his governance is good? But he has not done anything substantial. Until now there is no economic roadmap nor agenda. As I see it his net effect is negative in that his incompetence has brought shame to the country.

  84. henry90 henry90

    Anna:

A bachelor whose declared net worth is more than P20M can pretty much afford to buy that Porsche. He has no family to feed. Everything he needs as President is pretty much provided for. What is frivolous is if he starts to account in public everything he buys for himself. I repeat. Nothing escapes media. They will always find a way to find out. It’s been what? Two months since he bought the car? So how come Maceda, et al can only come up with conjectures and speculations as to the circumstances behind the purchase? It was not even in the news until he was reportedly seen driving the car and media started asking questions. The poor guy was honest enough to admit ownership and he got burned. Buti pang sinabi na lang na hiniram nya but he would have been impeached already by now. Screwed either way, right? But I would rather have the honest one than the mother of all liars of the GMA variety. It’s a classic case of “sinasalsal” ang issue, a newsman lingo, to milk it for whatever its worth. 😛

  93. This column of Dick Pascual in the Philippine Star has been going around the internet:”Generals also serve who only stand and wait” http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=649721&publicationSubCategoryId=64

I asked Col(ret)Ed Batac, spokesman of the Department of National Defense, about it and he shared with me the letter he sent Pascual. Pertinent portions of that letter:

We refer to your column that was published in the January 20, 2011 issue of the Philippine Star. In your column Postscript, you raised the issue of newly promoted generals allegedly waiting for almost two hours before His Excellency, President Benigno S. Aquino III was able to administer their oaths. This incident supposedly happened last January 11, 2011 at the Bahay Pangarap, the presidential residence across the river from Malacanang.

We would like to categorically state here that no such tardiness, on the part of the President, occurred. The affair started punctually at 1:30PM, not at the Bahay Pangarap across the river, but at the Ceremonial Hall of Malacanang Palace. The oathtaking ceremony was not only for the newly promoted generals and flag officers of the AFP, but also for the newly appointed officials of other government departments and agencies. The ceremony was immediately followed by the traditional picture taking of the newly promoted and appointed officials and their families with the President, a practice which not only portrays the President’s recognition and appreciation of these government officials’ achievements, but also an occasion for the President to give importance and honor to the immediate family of these officials.

In the same column, you also raised the issue regarding the traditional New Year’s call on the President by DND and AFP officials. Traditionally, it is only the Secretary of National Defense, the AFP Chief of Staff and the Commanders of the three major services who call on the President. The New Year’s Call occurred on January 7, 2011.

On the other hand, senior officials of the Department of National Defense and senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines called on the Secretary of National Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for the traditional New Year’s felicitations on January 2, 2011.

The January 4 affair was the turnover of command of the Philippine Navy, wherein President Aquino officiated as presiding officer. No other program was “piggy-backed” on this ceremony, even as the usual New Year’s greetings were exchanged as a matter of courtesy and expression of good will among the military officers and dignitaries, including the President, who graced the occasion.

    Mam Ellen:

Pascual does not know what he was talking about. Before he came out with that article, he should have realized that there was no way for such a great number of people to be accomodated at Bahay Pangarap. Lastly and the most important thing of all, lahat ng oath takings,as a matter of protocol, doon palagi sa ceremonial hall ng Malacanang ginagawa which is immediately followed by the photo-ops. Gagawa-gawa rin lang ng kwento, hindi man lang nag verify muna kahit doon man lang sa official photographer ng Malacanang na under ng RTVM kung hindi ako nagkakamali. Lahat ng mga nagtitake oath, individually photographed yan with their families doon mismo sa ceremonial hall. May kopya sila ng mga litrato at ito ay something that is cherished by Colonels and General/Flag officers. Baka nasa Facebook pa nga ang iba naka display. Napakadaling iconfirm. 95. Teagan Teagan

It is not a question of whether or not Noy can afford a Porsche. It is a question of whether or not he SHOULD be buying a Porsche as a president.

When he became President he promised simple living. He called on his officials to not live luxurious lifestyles, and went through all the effort to eat hotdogs from US sidewalk vendors to prove that he is a simple man with simple tastes.

    Simple rin pala ang Porsche.

Either eat that damn hotdog and choose not to buy the Porsche because he is a ‘simple’ man, or buy that Porsche and eat at Le Cirque because ‘his family can afford it, and besides it’s his money anyway’. Do NOT do both and then say you’re not contradicting yourself.

NFA rice, I’ll never ever associate modesty to majority of noypi politicians, except maybe Juan Flavier and Neri Colmenares (?).

Let’s bring forth and compare their inconsistencies and foolishness as you pointed out earlier.
Here’s one that I remember Goyang mentioned in one of her few speeches in Cordellira: That her father (Diosdado) built the Halsema Road of the Old Mountain Province, now called Cordellira. How could that be? Halsema highway was built in the 1920’s by the Igorot people and other nationalities under the supervision of american Eusebius Halsema.

I seriously doubt PNoy will claim his father built NAIA. As one poster articulated in the previous posts, which I agree…tiis na lang ulit. The seed of corruption is ingrained in noypi politics…very few will dispute this notion. PNoy could be like his late mother in the end; a good hearted person but a weak leader of a nation. And it’s quite painful for me to make such allegation in his young presidency. He needs to come out strong is all I can hope for.
