Political strategist learns a few lessons

Last month, Malou Tiquia, president of Publicus, which is into political management and strategizing, went to her veterinary clinic in Quezon City to pick up her beagle.

She parked her car, a Ford Fiesta, in front of her vet’s clinic located between Ferino’s Bibingka and Tapa King and Pizza Hut. “The place is well lighted and guarded,” Malou underscored.

It didn’t take her five minutes to pick up her beagle and when she came back, she found her car burglarized.

“Tinangay lahat my whole bag with wallet, cards and everything, two laptops because we just came from a briefing of a client. My make-up kit,” Malou related.

The burglars cut the glass window and must have used something to fish out the bag. The alarm was not activated because they didn’t open the doors. It was the handiwork of professionals who knew what to do and how to do it fast.

Malou said initial investigation showed that the burglars had been waiting for their prey in a parked Ford Fiera. They had night-vision goggles to enable them to see through the contents of cars with tinted windows like Malou’s.

I checked with Malou yesterday to get an update on the police investigation more than three weeks after the incident. She replied, “Wala. Nothing.” She said the police kept on telling her that the criminals are well-equipped while they don’t even have money to buy gasoline.

The past weeks, Malou has been pre-occupied with getting new identification and bank cards, which is a huge hassle. “Ang pinakamasakit,” said Malou who has not lost her sense of humor in the midst of this unpleasant incident,”ay ang aking UP ID.” She said it’s a 1981 ID with her picture 30 years ago. Sure, she’ll get a new UP ID but she complained, “Paano ko maibabalik ang aking face 30 years ago!”

Anyway, Malou shares lessons she has learned from the incident: 1) Heed the old saying not to put everything in one basket. The fashion these days is big bags to contain everything. Not a wise practice. 2) Don’t leave your laptop in the car. It’s a magnet for thieves. 3) Have more than one wallet. This is related to lesson number one. Don’t put all your IDs and cards – government issued, air mileage, credit cards, etc.- in one wallet.

Malou said she has been told that an attractive target of car thieves is vehicles of well-dressed lady drivers who get off the car without carrying a bag. That means, she left her valuables in the car.

Malou, of course, is still lucky. Her car was not taken. The Toyota Land Cruiser of chef and restaurateur Margarita Fores, cousin of former senator Mar Roxas, was forcibly taken by two men past midnight Wednesday near the De la Rosa bridgeway on Legaspi Village in Makati.

The driver, Roberto Villanueva, was loading some items in the vehicle and waiting for Fores when two men appeared and took the vehicle at gun point.

But Fores is still lucky. She was not yet in the car and she was not kidnapped and killed like car dealers Emerson Lozano and Venson Evangelista.

At this time when the lawless elements roam the land and all the authorities are always several steps behind, it’s great luck to come home alive and safe.

We have lousy police officers. They have nothing to offer but excuses. We need someone with the caliber of a Lacson to be the PNP Chief. Aquino should warn Bacalzo to shape up or ship out. The last thing we need is for the Marines to be sent into the Metropolis again and do police work. Pag nagkataon, iabolish na ang PNP.

    henry,

  3. Mike Mike

Forget Lacson, he’s not going to show up anytime soon anyway. It’s PNoy’s call who he wants to be PNP chief since after all, he is the commander-in-chief. Henry is correct, naniniwala akong marami pa ding magagaling at matitino sa PNP.

  6. Mike Mike

Perl, thats my point. Since he is still in hiding, wala tayong maasahan sa kanya sa ngayon. Kaya in his absence, dapat siguro ay mag appoint si PNoy ng mas matitinong opisyales ng PNP.

  7. Mike Mike

Mukhang may nananadya talaga ah. Hmmmm… naka ngisi siguro si pandak at si taba ngayon. 😛

  8. henry90 henry90

    Mike:

They(agents provocateur) will be unmasked in due time. 😛

    Off with their heads!

  11. chi chi

hope she learned the lesson…i did not…some years ago, I parked my car in one of the city sleaziest street for a few minutes to pick up a selfwinding machine for that old slr camera (the film one) and not more than 15 minutes i returned to my car with the camera bag missing (it was in full view) and ended up with a selfwinder without a Camera..forward a few years, I parked a somehow newer car without locking the door..get out of work, I look around and wondering where I parked the car,,,it was gone…police recovered it about a week and told me it was towed to the nearest body shop, it was stolen for a joy ride and sustained some damaged…now i checked twice and make sure that i confirm that toot toot to make sure it is locked.
but anyways, the average car thief in the Philippines is about 2 a day, we have here in Canada an average of 300 a day…

Bagong taon! Bagong Administration! pero walang magagawa ang mga police, walang magagawa ang gobyerno sa increase of crimes sa Manila and suburbs..is there no hope for our country? mukhang wala nga…

  14. rabbit rabbit

ibalik si senator lacson…lahat kc may kasabwat

  15. Rudolfo Rudolfo

Anyway, still, GOD BLESS the country, and wish for Hope and Change.

Those scums should rot in hell. Dapat sa kanila sunugin ng buhay katulad
ng ginawa nila kay Lozano at Venson.

Pinapabalik naman siya eh. Siya ang may ayaw. 😛

  20. Mike Mike

I just hope the authorities will bring in fall guys para lang masabing
case close. They are in tremendous pressure to solve the case.

  21. well, i just lost two side mirrors recently, before that my lcd tv was stolen, all our stuff that were lying around the sala rumbagized, i just added more locks, put in a camera, what else can i do? i sold my gun already since i didn’t want my boys to have anything to do with it as they grow up.
we were so hard on our policemen during the hostage incident, the human rights group is leaning towards the criminals, any big time criminal can get away scott free courtesy of savvy lawyers, and we blame the president for everything that happens under the sun. what is there to do? focus on the economy, peace and order issues come in. i believe these things are manageable, just don’t panic yet, and it you see a crime being committed, report it.

  22. Mike Mike

    #20
I mean will not bring in fall guys

  23. henry,
i’ll check with the guys who just got promoted to senior inpectors recently, very lax ba? 🙂

  24. henry,
yung mga yearling squadmates mo i believe are colonels and sr supt na, timbrehan mo na lang. hehehe 🙂

  25. honestly, there seems to be a crime wave of sorts recently, tapos na yung testing the waters yata, the bad guys are getting bolder, before they were scared of getting arrested because of what will happen to them in jail now they can yell “torture!” and the policeman will get in trouble already. what is there to do?

  26. vincentvangogh vincentvangogh

Of all of the theories presented on the rash of carnappings, carjackings, and killings of car dealers,etc.. the one that makes sense is the destabilization theory.

There seems to be an attempt at creating an atmosphere of lawlessness and thus instilling fear and thus discontent and anger against the present administration.

If it is, indeed, a destabilization strategy, what’s next on their agenda? They could exploit the increasing oil and food
prices and foment transport strikes and labor protests.

  28. Mike Mike

    Phil @ #26

If the theory of destabilization is true, I don’t think the perpetrators will succeed in toppling PNoy. Not a chance. Sure, they could have somehow succeeded in creating a scenario of lawlessness and fear among the populace but toppling the government they will surely fail.
Like I said earlier, those scumbags should be burnt alive. Better if it’s shown in public.

  29. chi chi

  31. Tedanz Tedanz

    chi #21

    Baka “kamay ng bak..a” 🙁 🙁 🙁

  32. olan olan

My two cents, I do not buy that destabilization theory. Lawlessness is more of a result of a dysfunctional Judiciary in general. Criminals are encouraged to do what they do simply because they can buy their way out of the situation. In addition, many in our government shows good example of how to do it free from accountability. Many good cops are doing their job properly. Problem is pag nasa husgado na most of their hard work goes down the drain.

Pnoy with the support of Congress needs to work hard with the Judiciary on how best to implement the rule of law judiciously that will in the end promote discipline. Question is can those in government police themselves para di na sila gayahin? Will they do it for the sake of country and the people?

  33. olan olan

oops i meant If Pnoy is serious about curbing criminality in our government, hey there it is at your doorstep…Hope you are successful in your effort to promote change!

  34. Mike Mike

Several suspects in the Lozano and Evangelista murder case already in police custody. I just hope they’re not fall guys. The allege back up SUV, a Pajero in the carnapping case of Evangelista has also been recovered by the PNP inside a safe house where several license plates, guns and accessories were discovered.

  35. chi chi

Same here, I don’t buy the destabilization theoryl, malakas lang ang loob ng mga kriminal na yan dahil malambot (pa) si Noynoy. 🙂

  36. Tedanz Tedanz

    Sinong malambot chi … 🙂

  37. “Ang pinakamasakit ay ang aking UP ID.” She said it’s a 1981 ID with her picture 30 years ago. Sure, she’ll get a new UP ID but she complained, “Paano ko maibabalik ang aking face 30 years ago!”

    HAHAHA!!! I LOVE HER!!

  38. Tawa rin ako ng tawa rin when Malou was complaining about it. I said napakalaki naman ng problema mo.

I like people who do not lose their sense of humor amidst adversity.

    Ellen @ #39
Reminds me of Erap. Napatalsik na sa pwesto, nakulong na at na convict na kaya pa rin makuhang mag joke about his “misfortune”.
    😛

  40. rose rose

Sagasaan nung puting Porsche 911 o yung puting Lexus LX570 niya. Walang aamin pero huwag lilinisin ang dugo! Tignan ko lang.
