The primetime variety show “Willing Willie” will be off the air for two weeks starting this Monday, April 11, after its host Willie Revillame announced that he has decided to take a leave from the program.

In his live message aired on Friday, April 8 episode of “Willing Willie,” the controversial host said he will study his options whether to continue or halt his career as a TV host during the two week hiatus. Today, TV5 will air a taped episode of the show.

Willie’s announcement came after Cebuana Lhuiller and CDO pulled out its advertisements on the show, while Unilever cancelled its ads on all live game shows on all networks temporarily. The withdrawal of support was prompted by the March 12 episode of “Willing Willie,” where six-year-old contestant Jan-Jan Suan danced to an apparently sexual routine. Mang Inasal, Del Monte, and Procter and Gamble already suspended advertising on the show earlier this week.

No suspension

However, his decision to take a leave does not mean “Willing Willie” was suspended by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

“Wala pong suspension ang MTRCB. Wag kayong magalit sa MTRCB. Nagpalit po sila ng tatlong board. Bakit?

The three “board members” are the adjudication committee members who inhibited themselves from the probing of the show. The members, MTRCB chairperson Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares refused to name, will be replaced by a lawyer, a teacher, and an independent film director.

According to Willie, the show would have been suspended. “Pero ano nangyari? Naputol. ‘Going Bulilit’ is a kiddie gag show and ‘Showtime’ is a reality talent show, both on ABS-CBN.

DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), kunin nyo lahat yan.

Without sponsors

Willie admitted that some of the sponsors’ withdrawal were hurtful and “masyadong personal.” However, he singled out Unilever and thanked them for their decision to pull out ads on all the network’s game shows.

In case the program does return after the hiatus, he’s willing to continue the show even without sponsors.

At kung babalik man kami, may panibago pong pagasa ulit.

He asked his supporters not to get angry at the sponsors who pulled out their ads. Willie also assured that he’s taking care of Jan-Jan and his family.

Yung tatay, dahil syempre bading, masyadong minamababa. Pero ano ang ginagawa ko? Araw-araw tinatawagan ko ang pamilya, kinakamusta ko. Ayan ang dapat gawin ng DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development). Marami pang Jan-Jan sa Pilipinas. Marami pang katulad nyan,” Willie ended his message.

No malice

The 25-minute “announcement” began with Willie recalling all the past controversies in “Wowowee,” his former show on ABS-CBN, has been involved in—from the Ultra stampede which killed 71 people on February 2006 to his conflict with Jobert Sucaldito last year, which eventually led to his transfer to TV5.

Sino gagawa nito? Kung sino man ito, mahabag kayo.”

Jan-Jan’s March 12 dance routine during their “Wil Time Big Time” was not intended to be malicious, he said.

“Nakadamit yung bata, nakaayos yung bata, sumasayaw ng ganun. Four years old pa lang si Jan-Jan, yun na ang sinasayaw sa mga eskwelahan saka sa mga pa-contest,” Willie said, adding that while the DSWD and the CHR have already accused him of child abuse, he and the show are not at fault regarding the incident.

Message to critics

Besides agencies that have expressed protests and disappointments over the incident, celebrities who criticized Willie online also got a lashing last night. Those named were Jim Paredes, Aiza Seguerra, Lea Salonga, Mylene Dizon, K Brosas, Tuesday Vergas, Bianca Gonzales, Leah Navarro and Agot Isidro.

Willie said after naming his celebrity critics. “Kapwa tayo artista.

Singling out Aiza, he said, “Magpakalalaki ka! Of Agot, meanwhile, Willie said: “Wala ka namang anak, e, bakit mo ako gaganyanin? Alamin mo muna.”

Near the end of his announcement, Willie said: “Kung idedemanda ka ng TV5, idedemanda rin kita. Magdedemandahan tayo. With Gerry Plaza, Yahoo! OMG! Philippines

MTRCB replaces members of committee hearing Willing Willie case

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has replaced the members of the Hearing and Adjudication Committee after they voluntary inhibited in response to the accusation of lack of impartiality by lawyers of TV5 and Willie Revillame.

MTRCB Chairperson Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares said in a statement posted on the board’s website: “Even as I affirm the integrity of the Members of the Hearing and Adjudication Committee, I regretfully accept their voluntary inhibition in order to dispel any doubt as to their impartiality. Effective immediately, a new Hearing and Adjudication Committee is hereby constituted to determine the guilt or innocence of the respondents in this ‘Willing Willie’ case.”

“The change in the composition of the Committee is to assure the public that the Board will only be guided by established facts and the law in the disposition of this case. This is also to avoid any attempt to further delay the expeditious resolution of the case.”
She did not release the names of the new members of the committee. There are 30 members of the MTRCB.

The revamp of the committee membership delayed the Board’s ruling on complaints against TV5’s variety show, Willing Willie, whose March 12 episode generated outrage and accusations of child abuse.

In that episode six-year-old Jan-Jan Suan, almost in tears, was shown doing a “macho dance” goaded by host Willie Revillame. The audience was shown enjoying the spectacle.

Eric Mallonga, one of the former committee members said, “We would have decided the case yesterday (April 7) based on the position and evidences presented. Unfortunately there was a motion to inhibit.”

The motion for inhibition was contained in the position paper presented by TV5’s lawyer, Zorayda Ruth Andam. It was also demanded by Revillame’s lawyer Leonard de Vera, who was allowed to speak despite his lack of legal personality in the hearing. Revillame’s production company, Wil Prod, is not registered with MTRCB, Mallonga said.

De Vera said the wife of MTRCB Hearing and Adjudications Committee head Eugenio Villareal is an executive officer of ABS-CBN; Mallonga, heads “Bantay Bata,” a charity foundation of the network giant, ABS-CBN, while Leah Navarro made comments against the show in Twitter.

The hearing turned into a shouting match between De Vera and Villareal.”You’re trying to bamboozle us even if this is the only opportunity for Mr. Revillame to tell you what the point of law is and what the facts are,” De Vera said.

An MTRCB official, who asked not to be named said, “They (TV5 and Revillame) are bullying us.”

MTRCB chairperson Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares said De Vera’s accusations were baseless since all committee members have “connections” precisely because they are from the television and movie industry.

She added that the adjudication members have disclosed their affiliations prior to the hearing.

Villareal said it’s his wife, not him, who is directly affiliated with ABS-CBN. He also pointed out that he was assigned as permanent chairperson of the committee as early as February, before the complaint was filed.

“In my line of work, mas marami pa nga yata akong connections sa TV5 (I have more connections in TV5),” he said, adding that he’s even friends with TV5 Ombudsman Christine Ona.

As for Mallonga, Llamanzares said he was chosen as permanent chair of the Committee on Child Protection because the case involved child abuse.

I hire an electrician if the problem involved plumbing)?” she said. Bantay Bata is a social welfare program for abused and at-risk children.

Mallonga, underscoring his impartiality, said he has been a member of the MTRCB for many years and he was head of the Hearing and Adjudication committee who suspended ABS-CBN’s Magandang Tanghali Bayan in 1999, then hosted by Revillame and two others, even if he was also legal counsel of Bantay Bata.

De Vera also accused Navarro, of having “pre-judgments” as shown in her tweets where she either re-tweeted or commented on tweets critical to Revillame.

But the MTRCB chair said Navarro tweeted about the issue prior to the start of the MTRCB hearing.

“Everybody had a comment. As Navarro said, we will be hard pressed to find somebody who has no personal opinion on the matter,” Llamanzares explained.

Llamanzares however also said members of the board must “cease to give (their) own statements once designated a role in the adjudication committee.”

De Vera also appealed to the committee to invite Revillame and his company, Wil Productions, to participate in the next hearings. But the panel decided to invite Revillame only as a witness.

Villareal said the Board has “jurisdiction over programs, not personalities.” He explained that “The case is against ABC TV5 because it is the applicant on the (television) permit to exhibit.”

De Vera angrily responded: “(Revillame) is not the party to this case but TV5 sanctions the client! … If you suspend TV5, you effectively suspend Willie Revillame, you effectively suspend all the people who are under his employ, you effectively suspend the enjoyment of millions and millions of Filipinos.”

In the MTRCB briefing posted on its website, TV5 was directed to “impose to impose punitive sanctions on the program and its hosts, which can range from a reprimand to a cancellation of the TV program itself, in the spirit of self-regulation.”

    Bye bye!
    Paalam!
    Sayonara!
Sana huwag ka nang bumalik…. ever!

  2. Mike Mike

This A.H. still don’t get it, the kid danced like a macho dancer and it’s not bastos? That it’s not child abuse? BOBO!!!

  3. acibig acibig

If pasayawin din nya yung anak nya like what the other child did, then maybe i will trust him again. They should have nipped it at the bud. Everybody is dispensible. I dont know what MVP was thinking when he hired him, let him suffer the faith of Charlie Sheen

K Brosas, Agot Isidro at Tuesday Vargas.

  6. acibig acibig

He needs to accept his fault, that is the first step. I think one issue with Willie is his educational background. kaya di nya maintindihan ang logic ng mga pangyayari

  7. parasabayan parasabayan

Bad boy kasi itong si Willy and he never learns. Pretty soon talagang he will be banned from all tv shows forever He needs to have counselling because he has his values upside down.

  8. acibig acibig

for the sake of argument , if willie thinks people are out to destroy him, then he should have been more cautious, make sure to watch his back, sa tagal nya sa showbiz he should know na marami ang inggit sa kanya, tapos ngayon puro sya bintang, funny is di daw nya pinagsasabi ang mga donations nya but in the end he has to flaunt it

  9. parasabayan parasabayan

To the poor, Willy is a picture of a kind hearted man and knows how to entertain them. Talaga naman. I do not know what this entertainer has but the more he is put down, the more our poor people idolize him. He has a certain appeal to our “masa”.

  10. Singling out Aiza, he (WR) said, “Magpakalalaki ka!
    ***
“Magpakalalaki ka” remarks is uncalled for because Aiza’s gender is not part of the issue.

joeseg, it just shows his true character. His attacking Aiza about her “gender” is totally unacceptable.

  13. Mon Mon

@ #7 “He needs to have counselling because he has his values upside down.”

Better yet, a counselling for the owners and executives of the television stations and advertisers who nursed the Frankenstein Willi Revillame is.

These highly paid people are more guilty than Willie because they have been exploiting the masses – the television viewers – to the hilt. They have the money to produce edifying shows, but no! They found a convoluted gold mine in Willie’s appeal to the masses.

The advertisers are not pulling out because they suddenly found their moral compass spinning out of control; they are simply reacting to protect their “image” out of pure concern for their bottomline.

In a few months, all will be back to “normal.”

This TURD is attacking his former network ABSCBN, what has this got to do with the issue at hand. CHILD ABUSE.

He also mentioned that he doesn’t know the kid is going to do a macho dancing act. That all contestant has to go through auditioning. So, is he putting the blame on the show’s staff and the network TV5? And assuming that he doesn’t know about the kid’s act, why did he allowed it to go on and repeatedly?

As for the other TV stations having the same kind of distasteful show, they should also be stopped. Cases should also be filed if need be.

  16. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

I think Willie has become a hate object by so many because of one simple thing. He has bad manners and wrong conduct. Simple as that.

You cannot brag about how good and noble your intentions are if you strut around like an arrogant and overbearing peacock and call other people names.

This guy has a hateful personality. Simple as that.

  17. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Let this be a lesson to the TV networks. It ain’t worth it, folks. Nobody is that indispensable.

Let this be a warning to politicians, too. It ain’t worth it. Choose your endorsers well.

  18. The guy never learns, its a sad sight, marami na kasing pera. He should have learned his lesson during the Ultra stampede pa lang, may mga namatay pa, wala lang.
His brand of humor, a cruel one we sometimes enjoy but normally check ourselves, laughing at the humiliation of others, old or young, mainly poor – is a tasteless one.
He keeps saying he’s helping others, he’s helping himself get rich to be honest about it.
He never learned his lesson, he doesn’t even know what he did wrong, is he insane?

Jeopardy does auditions in cities other than LA, to get contestants. Then they are brought to LA, I’m sure, all expenses paid.

I would gamble on some knowledge based contest show, where auditions are held not only in Manila, but also in the provinces. If it is a school versus school thing, like “Challenge” of the East Coast (NY NJ), it might encourage teachers and parents to egg on the students to excel for money and fame. There will be town and provincial pride if the kids make it to the top.

Whatever happened to spelling bee? Mayroon pa ba sa Pinas? It is still a hit here. In fact, diyan makikita ang immigrant power. Usually, the winners are Indians, Chinese, or other new immigrants; those hungry to excel in the new country. I’m sure some hungry provinciano will want to whip the Manila boys and girls to prove that education outside Manila is just as good.

  20. saxnviolins saxnviolins

Wala bang think tank within the networks? Puro na lang worn-out shows? In fact, even the effort to come up with new show formats can be “outsourced” to the schools.

Come up with a contest for college students, whereby they propose show formats, for a prize. The show format adopted by the network will be the winner, and would win whatever. That way, you encourage competition among the schools, and tap into the brain power of the youth.

I don’t have Pinoy TV, but every so often, I see that Willie crap when I visit my dad. Boring naman. Puro na lang igiling-giling, shouting hosts, and stupid comments of the other co-hosts. There are the nice-looking dancing girls in the background, but after a while, they cannot stop my changing of channels.

Puwede namang mag-incorporate ng sexy girls within a wholesome show (sex sells of course). A good example are the girls opening the boxes in “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”. It doesn’t hurt that the host is the impeccably well-mannered Howie, a younger version of Alex Trebek. Note, pareho silang Canadian. Marahil kaya hindi brash or bastos. Ang Kano, I’ll save that for another post.

  21. saxnviolins saxnviolins

So Willie is paid one million pesos a day? That’s $25,000 a day; so Willie earns in five days what nurses slave for here for a year.

I have a better use for that one million pesos. Put up a show saying manalo ng isang million, and actually try to give away one million pesos a day, by making the questions relatively easy, yet challenging enough to be entertaining. Then get some cheap talent (me – biro lang. Heck for $1,000 a day 50,000 pesos, sinong hindi uuwi?).

What you save in not paying Willie goes to poor people instead. You actually help more people, and the net cost to you will be the same.

Galing sa Kano yang concept na yan. I forgot the show’s title.

It has a celebrity paired with a contestant, and the contestant tries to guess words based on the clues given by the celebrity. Tapos babaliktarin, with the contestant giving clues, and the celebrity guessing.

In fact, there are two contestants paired with celebrities. The winner is the one with more hits. Time-constrained din yung pagbigay ng tips for a set of, I believe ten words. Kung hindi mo kaya, pass ka, and move to the next word.

Adult abuse!!!! wahhahahahah 🙂 🙂 🙂

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I totally agree with you, SAX. Gone are the days when TV networks in the Philippines promoted contests that cater to the brains. Schools competing with each other were a sight to see. For some measly amount of money to be won (by today’s standards), students really fight it out not necessarily for the prize but for their personal prestige and their schools’s as well.

Nowadays it is all garbage. We, too, at one time, had this lone Filipino channel in our cable subscription. But after just a few months, I canceled it altogether. The reason ? There was nothing in their programs that cater to the intellect. It was all tele-novelas which had but one thing and one thing only as their main theme…………love triangle. The story-line was always “infidelity” no matter who starred in them, And who do these networks use in these TV series ? Young upstarts who are given mature roles to promote a future love team (again).

Sa dami ng magagaling na PInoy writers, nobody could even come up with dramas/movies relevant to the times. Times have changed a million-fold and the Pinoy masses are still stuck with the same very predictable tearjerkers, love triangles, infidelities, slapstick comedies, and a whole gamut of fucking garbage. Sa dami ng problema sa mundo, we are always awe-struck with the mestizos and mestizas of cinema and pre-occupation with useless showbiz affair as a whole.

By the way, the program you are talking about is the $25,000 and the $100,000 dollar pyramid shown on the Game Network in cable (higher channels).

Singling out Aiza, he said, “Magpakalalaki ka! Of Agot, meanwhile, Willie said: “Wala ka namang anak, e, bakit mo ako gaganyanin? Alamin mo muna.”…

I really waited to hear what the guy has to say. Was waiting to see and hear a repentant guy. But I was not disappointed from what I heard from him. The guy really has a misplaced manner, no wisdom at all.

Everything he said are issues not related to the child abuse case.

The guy has never learned, ang dami na niyang issues before at pinalalabas pa niyang “me against the world” yung nangyayari sa kaniya.

He is a recidivist already. No amount of rehabilitation or counseling will cure this guy.
    He is self-destructing already.

Unfortunately, the “likes” of the masa prevail in the crafting of these shows. The more outrageous the show is, the more the show sells.

Sax, the common tao would be so bored with “spelling bee” or the “like” kind of shows. This will not sell, sorry.
It is not to say that we can not produce them. I think these shows are actually aired not but they do not fetch a patronage as wide reaching as “Willing-Wilie”.

break daw muna sabi ni Willie…a break dance instead of giling giling? seriously though sana magbago na siya at makapag muni-muni siya at hindi lang money-money! Willie, you are a better person than what you are doing for our enjoyment…

“A good example are the girls opening the boxes in “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”.” – snv

That show is “Deal or No Deal” at NBC. Meredith Veira hosts “Who wants to be a millionaire” at ABC.

Years ago, maybe a decade, a Filipina contestant (not born in the US based on her accent) got on the show Jeopardy. Obviously very smart, accumulated the most money and can’t be caught regardless what two rival did, and would have been at least a one day winner if she only bet nada/zero in the end. She ended up losing.

I stand corrected. Deal or No Deal nga.

Kung silly games lang, Minute to Win It would be a good show. Mabenta naman, and it also gives away good money. The host earned his fame in the food network. May pagka Emeril Lagasse yan magluto.

Since Pinoys are such addicts for sing-along, the show about remembering lyrics should be a good one. Marami ka nang mabibigay na pera diyan, before the contestant is knocked out.

hindi mageenjoy ang common tao sa “spelling bee” etc. how about bringing back ang mga “tula” or “riddles” “paligsahan” and the likes…didn’t we have them before? lalo na pag fiesta sa mga barrio? wala na bang paligsahan ngayon?

sa amin noong araw..wala kaming movie theatres kaya ang Purico I guess what is Procter and GAmble now..would put a big screen sa plaza or sa palengke and we akk watch the show…pag Holy Week in 14 kantos, we have the pabasa and the procession every night…the whole town..But sad to say a couple of years when I went home I asked kung saan ang procession…wala na daw…nakakalungkot!

paano magkakaisa ang mga Pinoy…we come from several islands and we speak different dialects..hindi nagkakaintihan..true we have our National Language but even that we still don’t understand each other…”nakain ka ba ng isda?” or “kumakain ka ba ng isda” ano ang tama?

  44. @sax (#40) You are referring to Guy Fieri, who hosts two TV shows currently on cable here: Food Network’s (SkyCable’s Lifestyle Network locally) The Best Thing I Ever Ate and of course NBC’s more popular Minute to Win It which has been copied by a few local game shows.

I think he is also the host who reported the carjacking of his Lamborghini at a car dealership sometime last month or the month before.

#28 very well said sir. That’s why nga nung nawala sa aire ang Magandang Tanghali Bayan (MTB) where Randy, John, Willie, Amy Perez & Dick hosts the show I thought all the while that ABS-CBN would choose any of Randy, John, Amy & Dick since in my opionion they are better hosts & decent but alas the network choose Willie instead. I only find out later that willie has a very influential “talent manager” that time, that Kapamilya choose him instead of other much talented hosts. Well they have their own reasons but look at what happened now? Are’nt they realized that they created a monster instead? It’s really a lesson…

Don’t just pick your stars its because they are charismatic, sikat, madaldal, colorful ang lovelife, etc. but prefer above all that has good manner & right conduct, may breeding, setting good example to the public in’s & out of the camera, etc.
