Anong moralidad ang pinapa-iral ng simbahang Katoliko?

CBCP”s Pastoral statement: A time of pain, a time of grace (Full text is in Comments)

Gloria Arroyo in good company

My brother who migrated to the US in the mid-60s and never went back to the PHilippines ever again said, the main source of our woes is the church and its holy men. He said # 1 corrupt daw yan mga yan. I never believed him all these years but when Cardinal Sin started to mess around in politics, I was convinced that these men in white robes are not showing the people the axample they should for the people to follow.

I watched one of the obispos who was even patawa tawa when he was interviewed, parang nagsasabing ” eh ano ngayon?”. Nakakawala ng respeto ang mga ito! HMP!

These bishops took advantage of the corrupt ways of the bansot by asking favors in exchange for their support. Never mind if the bansot was the most openly corrupt leader, as long as they got their share of the loot. These corrupt bishops should resign as well to cleanse their souls, if they have any.

I still attend mass but I pray straight to my God. As a matter of fact, I do not give them money when the 2nd collection is passed at offertory. I will just directly give my help to those who need help badly.

The most dominant organized religious establishment in the country apparently failed to move along with time. Stories like this only offer a not-so-rare glimpse of what the Catholic Church stood for in Martin Luther’s time, when heavenly apartments where auctioned off to those who can afford. In this case, Aling Gloria’s heavenly apartment, and her prolonged stay in the people’s earthly palace were purchased using PCSO-funded SUVs.

Bish Pueblos got 1.7 million pesos but now is being asked to return a car, parang may hindi tama, imop. How much did it cost him to buy the car? Full accounting of the money should be required from him, with proper documentation.

But the whole point of the issue is, how kapal naman ni Mang Pueblos na humingi ng birthday gift, specific pa, a brand new car na 4×4. Kapalit?

They sold as before, dahilan lang sa lagay gamit ang pera ng bayan, they will sell as again. No wonder buhay pa si DAMASO! Mga hipokrito!

The only way for them to redeem themselves is when those involve resign as bishops and for them to adhere to the rule of law and promote separation of church and state.

It is sad. Those white-robed mitered fellows used to be so respected. It was almost a sin to even think that they could commit a sin. Now it is expected that they would. Especially sins of the political and sexual kind.

Sad because the sins of a few have condemned the whole. Can’t help it. That’s how it is. So efforts must be exerted to remind ourselves that majority of them are still respectable.

    Or are they?

  29. Pastoral statement

A time of pain, a time of grace

    Our Dear People of God,

Our Mother Church has been deeply wounded by the controversies in the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office that have erupted in the past two weeks. Some members of the Church believe in the innocence of the bishops involved in the issue, while others do not. There is no doubt that everywhere in the Church there is great sorrow. We your pastors are one with you. As shepherds struggling to love you like Jesus the Good Shepherd, we are sorry for the pain and sadness that these events have brought upon you.

We are saddened that many of you, especially the youth, the poor, our Basic Ecclesial Communities, have been confused because of the apparent inconsistency of our actions with our pastoral preaching.

As we express our sadness, we also ask you to be slow in judgment and to conscientiously seek the whole truth behind the controversy. Let us seek the truth always in charity.

We assure you that the bishops concerned are ready to accept responsibility for their action and to face the consequences if it would be proven unlawful, anomalous, and unconstitutional. We assure you that their action was done without malice. Out of their sincere desire to help their people, they failed to consider the pitfalls to which these grants could possibly lead them. They have also expressed their readiness to do everything that is necessary to heal this wound so that we can all move forward in hope.

We also assure you, our beloved people, that we shall re-examine the manner of our collaboration with government agencies for purposes of helping the poor, making sure that pastoral sensibilities are respected and the highest ethical standards are observed. We shall examine our values in the light of our vocation to be disciples of Jesus Christ. We commit ourselves to the long journey of personal and social transformation required of all disciples of the Lord. We plead with you to walk with us in this path of constant renewal.

We express again our deep sorrow for the pain that the recent events have brought to you our beloved people. The good Lord knows our love for you. The words of the psalmist come to our mind: “My sacrifice, a contrite spirit. A humbled, contrite heart you will not spurn” (Ps.51). As the same Psalmist addresses the Lord, we take his words as our own to encourage and challenge us: “Indeed you love truth in the heart; then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.”

For the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines,

    +NEREO P. ODCHIMAR, D.D.
    Bishop of Tandag
President, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines
    July 11, 2011

  31. andres andres

#21 Phil: I so agree with you! Crab mentality of Filipinos in full display and it shattered our nation by installing the greedy midget and her family. At least si Erap may puso para samahirap no matter how imperfect he is.

  32. andres,
Its not crab mentality really, at that time the country was bombarded with so much negative information about Erap.
The clergy (at least some noisy and influential ones) painted him as a notorious womanizer, gambler (with video in the casino) chick boy, with midnight cabinet drinking sessions every night and coming to work mid day already, as if aversed to work. The military was well taken cared of knowing his support for Reyes, but it opened a pandora’s box, pwede pala, someone offered a better deal. They painted him as listening more to his barkada, shady, incompetent advisers. One of them got him entangled with the BW Resources issue which is really tantamount to economic sabotage, if he wasn’t aware of it the economics savvy Gloria could easily paint him incompetent. So he got the ire of the business group (the legit ones). He also got entangled with the media, calling for an advertising boycott for Inquirer which backfired, it was tantamount to silencing freedom of speech and made him look defensive. All the houses he bought for his other women and the fact that he had other women and families other than his legal one didn’t help (maraming inggit, hehehe). And he had Chavit Singson, a close friend and partner who sold him out.
In hindsight, which is much clearer really, I wonder why it just took 2 years for so many people to hate him enough to boot him out of office? Thats the power of the media and the power of the church. He became defenseless because the military abandoned him in the end.
The way I see it, he had a good heart, unfortunately he had scheming, conniving, ruthless, vice president who studied pretty well his weaknesses and knew how to push the right buttons. He made the mistake of trusting Gloria, someone outside his trusted circle, outside his party, and gave her the keys to his kingdom.
It happened so fast, we were all bombarded with negatives even I was panicking already, as if the country will be driven to the ground because we have a drunk, bobo, senile, chick boy, immoral, directionless, amature, at the helm. Or at least thats what they painted him out to be in massive scale, the budget could have been horrendous for them to pull it off.
If Maceda did a good job, the result speaks for itself.
He never had a chance from day 1, he, we didn’t see it coming.

  33. Fast forward it to today’s situation, its the same pattern. The bishops attack the jueteng connection, KKK, tanghali na pumapasok, the detractors (paid) attack with walang alam, abnoy, incompetent, etc. There is obviously a massive amount of money being thrown to influence the media.
Unfortunately some people learned from the Erap experience, ultimo si Erap (God bless him) never failed in giving advise to the current dispensation. When the rest of the “magaling” na politiko just criticised, he defended pa nga.
The military issues have been properly addressed with the potential “pay off” takers exposed, so hindi na sila threat, the conniving influential bishops exposed – nakapon na rin.
But I really believe that unless we cut off the head of the serpent, the money flow stopped, we’ll never find any peace. We must see Gloria arrested and jailed for what she did, not just to Erap but to the entire country.

  34. Its right for the administration to keep running after Gloria, keep her in the defensive, don’t let her and her allies regroup and recoup their strength, because we all know her capability, give her breathing space and we’ll all regret it.

  35. parasabayan parasabayan

Did you see the bishop who held up the bishops’ letter? Naka-smile pa. Parang nanunuya. “I am sorry” daw sila.

  36. parasabayan parasabayan

The scheming bitch is still that…scheming. Let us not underestimate her evil intentions. Pnoy has to be extremely careful with those who used to be with the midget and who are pretending to be his allies. Mga makamandag ang mga yan. I do not trust that evil bitch!!!!!

    Ang alin? Harharhar…

Seriously, I do not understand the Butuan Bishop’s motive in saying what he said. Is he clueless as to the implications of the separation doctrine? Or, is he simply so confused, he cannot even tell the difference between God and Aling Gloria?

CBCP Apologizes. Was that an apology?

I watched the Senate hearing on TV this morning with the Catholic Bishops supposed to be questioned by the Senators regarding the issue of PCSO funds they accepted.

The CBCP was given a chance to air their side. They read their joint apology through a CBCP statement. That was an apology?

I am paraphrasing that apology as I understood it… ‘We are sorry for causing our flock pain and confusion. But we do not admit that we did anything wrong. The fault is with the pained and confused flock for having misconstrued our actions.’

Duhh…It was like listening to Gloria’s “I am sorry”.

  44. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

The bishops all decided they would return their vehicles. But still they are not saying they did anything wrong.

And the Senators were only too willing to let them go quickly and they made sure the bishops were unscathed.

It was the PCSO who bore the brunt of the questioning. Maybe so.. because it was the giver (Gloria, Uriarte, Morato, etc.)who should have known better than to give funds away to religious groups.

    But Gloria is Gloria.

  45. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

I hope the bishops have learned their lessons well here.
To never accept gifts from a devil. (As Jinggoy seemed to suggest to Bishop Pueblos.)

But alas Pueblos says that even Cardinal Sin once said that he would accept money from the devil and give that money to the poor.

So have they learned their lessons well, do you think?

  46. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

The next time I go to confession, I will use the CBCP approach:

” Father, I don’t think I have sinned but forgive me if you think I have sinned..but I seem to have sinned only because the Church has come up with the Ten Commandments.”

  47. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

… and, Father, I will continue to commit that sin as long as I am doing it for the sake of the poor.

  50. greenstallion greenstallion

The bottom line of PCSO fund scandal given to 7 Bishops is about Gloria Arroyo. I don’t condemn the 7 bishops because they were used by Arroyo to buy their silence and they are sorry for it. Who among us here can say that in our lifetime, we were not been used, manipulated directly or indirect, twisted by wrong informations, biases, etc.? The bishops are human too, frail to commit mistakes. They have spoken already, said sorry of their lapses. Its enough. Let’s hate the sin, not the sinners.

  51. where i come from, any car is a luxury car, 8 million is too much money for me already. even if it was just 100,000 its still something to be ashamed about! Damaso!

  52. they received bribes and they conspired to defend a fake president thet should be tarred and feathered

  53. The church hierarchy should have relieved the corrupt bishops from their positions, after what they have done they do not deserve to lead anymore. If Jesus was here today he could have whipped them, thrown them out saying “you have turned the house of God into a den of thieves!”
Those apologists for the bishops are doing the church a big disservice, we must expect more from our church leaders, they are not mere politicians, the stakes are higher, our spiritual salvation! To those much is given, much is required!

  54. tru blue tru blue

From now on, let’s refer to these dimwits priests and bishop
    as “asban”; Asong Simbahan!

Priests were assassinated in Central America for speaking the truth at one time; most priests are glorified in Pinas for being corrupt, abusive, and what have you.

  56. …and some of them even have the gall to demand public apologies from PCSO and PNoy? What arrogance is this? I can almost imagine what their reply will be if somebody points this arrogance out to them:

“What arrogance? Our humility is second to none.”

  57. …and if they use that “he who has not sinned cast the first stone” to hell with them – I didn’t ask for a brand new car from the president!
Ito na ang unang bato – one big hollow block for you bishop!

  58. …and why would you leave that big block hollow? Fill it up before the big throw, jug! My bad…hahaha.
