Italian enchantment

I try not to miss the national day celebration of Italy because the embassy here always comes up with something creative that showcases the magnificent Italian culture.

Under the energetic Ambassador Rubens Anna Fedele, receptions are not confined to hotels. Last year, it was held at the Metropolitan Museum which at that time had a superb exhibits of old maps. Guests had the pleasure of viewing the maps while having cocktails.

They had a recipe book of Italian dishes and a directory of Italian restaurants in Metro Manila.. Then there was the concert of music by Italian composers.

Ang umamin, ang hindi umamin

Ang pinakamai-init na isyu noong isang linggo at hanggang ngayon ay ang sex video nina Hayden Kho sa iba’t-ibang babae kasama na doon si Katrina Halili.

Noong isang linggo rin, namatay si Sammy Ong, ang deputy director ng National Bureau of Investigation, na siyang tumulong na mailabas sa publiko ang “Hello Garci” tapes kung saan maririnig ang pag-uusap ni Gloria Arroyo at ni dating Comelec Commission Virgilio Garcillano kung paano retokihin ang resulta ng eleksyon sa Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao para siya ang mananalo kahit na ang tunay talaga na nanalo ay ang kanyang kalaban na si Fernando Poe, Jr.

May pagkapareho ang alawang pangyayaring ito: ang ilegal na pag-tape. Inamin ni Hayden na siya ang nag-video tape ng kanyang pagtatalik. Mukhang may weirdo rin itong doktor na ito, ano. Sino ba naman ang matinong tao na gusto kinukunan ang kanyang pagtatalik, isang bagay na napaka-personal.

A simple request from climate-change concerned filmmaker

I got a letter from Katrina Encanto, who identified herself as an art director of JWT Manila. I suppose JWT is J Walter Thompson.

She said she needs support in terms of votes for short film she made which she entered in the Youtube Cannes Lions 48 Hour Ad Contest.

Katrina said, “To cast votes for this film, you would need to go to http://www.youtube.com/canneslions and search for “thecheshirecatgrin”, within the next 10 days or so.”

A night of music for street children

A free concert for the benefit of street children will be held on April 26, 7:00 PM at the University of the Philippines Diliman Film Center. This musical celebration is organized by the non-stock, non-profit, christian organization Onesimo Foundation.

Swiss Filipino artist Ernie Opiasa will be joined by Armina Riethmüller, the Windsong Band, and the children of Onesimo Foundation in the concert “Reaching Out.”

Onesimo operates ten shelters (therapeutic communities) and drop-in centers in Metro Manila slum areas: at Quezon City’s Payatas, Frisco, Philcoa (2), Mendez, and F.Carlos; Malabon’s Letre and Manila’s Tondo and Quiapo (2). Onesimo has been registered since 1996 as a non-profit organization. It benefits from tax exemption and is licensed as a social institute by the Department of Social Welfare (DSWD).

Iba talaga sa Tagalog

Sa bentahan ng mga dyaryo, talong-talo ng mga tabloid ang mga broadsheets.

Mas malakas ang number one sa tabloid (Abante) sa pinakamalakas sa broadsheets (pinagaawayan ito ng Inquirer at Philippine Star). Ito ay nagpapakita lamang na mas kuha ng mga tabloid ang gusto ng masa.

Ang mga tabloid ay Tagalog. Hindi yung malalim na Tagalog sa paaralan kungdi ang Tagalog na salita ng Pilipino sa pangaraw-araw nilang pamumuhay.

Matinong artista, may katuturang palabas

Noong isang linggo napanood ko na umiiyak si Pokwang sa “Wowowie” ng ABS-CBN. Dinedepensahan siya ni Willie Revillame sa panlalait na ginawa sa kanya ni Joey de Leon sa “Eat Bulaga” ng GMA-7.

Sinabi ni Willie na sa isang show raw ng “Eat Bulaga” sa United States, tinawag ni Joey si Pokwang na “aswang”.

Kahit naman sinong tao, hindi dapat tawagin na aswang. Lalo pa si Pokwang na isang magaling at kagalang-galang na entertainer. Ikinuwento ni Willie na may namatay na anak si Pokwang at ngayon ay may isa siyang anak na yan ang rason kaya talagang kayod si Pokwang.
