Stars with a heart put heartless governor to shame

Thanks to KilaBalita for the above video and photo below.

This Governor Emmylou Talino-Mendoza of Cotabato is really something.

I saw her on TV being interviewed on the bloody dispersal of the farmers rally in Kidapawan where at least two people died and many were injured and she expressed no sympathy. She was arrogant.

(Update: At the Senate hearing Thursday some of Mendoza’s arrogance was gone but she gave an impression of an unfeeling government official. She said she was the one who decided” “Police action na.”)

Gabriela Women’s Party 2nd Nominee Arlene Brosas is right when she said, “”Gov. Mendoza has shown no remorse and has even justified the massacre of the poor farmers. Her role in the bloody incident and her attitude afterwards has shown the she is clearly unfit for public service. She must leave and she should take her butcher North Cotabato Police Alexander Tagum with her.”

The return of Joc-joc

Last Friday. I got this text from a friend: “NAIA manager Al Cusi, Dureza and Atty. Tony Zulueta here now in Manila Pen bar brainstorming on how to shield Jocko when he arrives. Pabalik na Jocjoc. Overheard sila by a friend. Media should be alerted.”

Dureza, of course, refers to Press Secretary Jesus Dureza and Zulueta is the lawyer of former Agriculture Secretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante.

The next day, I got another text from the same friend: “From embassy source:Jocjoc next week to be escorted by US Marshall. Jocjoc wife already here. Maybe media should start making noise to pre-empt government attempt to silence him.”

Looming fertilizer shortage

In our discussion of the current rice crisis, Commodore (ret) Rex Robles tells us of the three legs of the national security tripod: food, fuel, fertilizer.

We are now burdened with the rising prices of food and fuel. Here comes the information of a looming fertilizer shortage.

The info was shared with us by a businessman who subscribes to assessments of a Hongkong-based risk consultancy firm.

Kaso ginugulo nila… Wala na ba silang pagtingin sa bayan?”

The worst is yet to come

Update on broken rice or binlid

The heart-rending scene of poor people, including children and the physically disabled, lining up for six hours every day for two kilos of rice is a warning of a simmering social volcano.

But the worst is yet to come, says Duncan Macintosh, spokesman of the International Rice Research Institute in a media interview shared with us by a friend.

Macintosh said, “Our concern is for October and November. Were very concerned that the rice production and supply situation in the Philippines may get worse in October and November. “

Kapag walang makain, krisis yan.
