Sabi niya, “I volunteered.”

Sabi niya, “I did not volunteer.”

Sabi ni Kiram na parang ina-antok, “Okay I said I did, but I’m taking it back.

* * *

Ito pa isa. Sa Strictly Politics noong Martes.

Pia: As member of ULAP,an organization of local officials, you pushed for charter change that would abolish the Senate. Now you want to be senator. Malacanang is still pushing for charter change. How do you reconcile that?

Vicente Magsasay: If I win I will pursue the charter change advocacy in the Senate.

Pia: You mean you want to be a senator so you can abolish the Senate?

Magsaysay: That would be the effect.

(The interview with Prospero Pichay went along the same line.)

Nakakaloka!

They are perfect examples of this government. Speaking from both sides of their mouths. Nakakaloko nga only if you take them seriously.

Vic Magsaysay, What? you did not understand the question. Pagtawanan ka ni Jun at Tony niyan.
You want to be a senator so that you can pursue the charter change but, you don’t want to abolish the senate. Then, where do you belong? Atty; Amor Deloso how do you comment from your best friend? Are you going to run for governor or your daughter? Kakaro yati amigo mo ola no matalo.Narigat mangabak ni lakay Vic.

  3. Cocoy, please read the article again. Vic magsaysay (also Pichay) said something to the effect that they want to become senators so they can abolish the Senate.

    Ellen;I copy
I made a typing error,I should say you want to abolish the senate, instead of you don’t want to abolish the senate.

Taking cue from that line of thinking of Vic Magsaysay and Pichay, ito ang magandang joke applicable to them:

Magsaysay: May nasagot ka ba sa exam tungkol sa kung dapat buwagin ang senado o hindi?
Pichay: Wala eh, blangko ang papel ko.
Magsaysay: Ako rin, walang laman ang papel ko.
Pichay: Naku, lagot tayo sa small boss natin.
    Magsaysay: Bakit?
Pichay: Baka sabihin ni gma, nagkopyahan tayo.

  7. When Pichay entered the “Strictly Politics” studio last Tuesday, his fellow candidates greeted him either “My gulay!” or “My favorite gulay”.

His campaign slogan is “Ang gulay ng buhay.”

As I recall from your previous post, you’ve been to Zambales during the time of Mt.Pinatubo eruption.Have you meet Amor Deloso’s daughter? I think her name is Sheril.
Gov.Vic Magsaysay,Cong.Antonio Magsaysay Diaz, Sen.Ramon Magsaysay Jr. and.
Cong.Amang Magsaysay, the son of Sen.Genaro Magsaysay. They are cousins.
Mapagmataas daw at matapobre.Si Amor iba, madaling lapitan.

    Ellen,

The following are titles of a news report in different newspapers by different reporters in today’s newspapers:

“Grenades Found On Road Near Army Hq” by The Manila Times

“Grenades Found in Fort Boni” by The Philippine Star

“Explosives Found at Army Camp, Air Terminal” by Manila Standard Today

“Explosives Found Outside Army HQ” by Malaya

“Fort Bonifacio Tinaniman ng Bomba” by Remate

“Pambobomba sa Fort Bonifacio Nasilat” by Abante

The report made by your reporter at Malaya (Victor Reyes) is the “most accurate” news report!

Mahabaging langit!

Ang pagkapasok ni Kiram sa disunity ticket ni bansot only proved that no one wanted to run under her ticket. O my gulay Pechay!

I met Amor Deloso, the governor during the Pinatuho eruptions. He was playing chess first time I entered his office at the provincial capitol. It was past 6pm when almost all staffers have timed but he waited for me. Knowing some chess moves, I accepted his challenge to play one game and after that, we went to serious business regarding the possible site for a housing project for Pinatubo victims. Ang husay kausap ni Gov. Deloso.

No, I haven’t had the chance to meet his daughter.

Ok guys, you can’t just have all the fun in this blog, I also want to join in. Is it not Jamal Kiriam III supposedly a 3 carat fake Sultan? I didn’t know that there is still remaining Sultan in the Philippines, it’s news to me. I thought when Magellan was killed he took all the Sultans with him, I guess this one has escaped. Anyway, since we are now in the 21st century I’d imagine Sultan Jamal Kiram III is now obsolete for quite sometime and the brain somehow was thawed, so he can run for Senate. Or I shall say, volunteered. I suppose, when they were passing out free good brain somehow this Sultan Jamal was in deep coma. Please, somebody wake this supposedly Sultan, he’s hallucinating. Where in the hell they get this people to run the country? No wonder the country is in deep shit, with all this garbage pretending to be the saviour of the country. Incredible!

I don’t know if you are in speaking term with Mike Defensor, it would be nice if you can invite him to spend at least couple of hours with us, in you blog. Perhaps, Mike can convince many of us of why should mutineer Gloria shouldn’t be prosecuted for coup d’etat and election fraud, and most importantly of what Mike think of the Philippines Constitution. Let us know, and I would be monitoring your respond. Thanks!

I’ll work it out not only with Mike but also with other candidates? What’s the best time do you think to invite them. Past midnight, Philippine time?

  28. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Please someone to remind Vicente Magsaysay, his idea of abolishing the Senate is oudated. It’s no longer applicable since the people is no longer interested to dance to the cha-cha.

Pichay, Kiram, Magsaysay, Sotto, Angara. Arroyo, Singson, Recto, and others in Unity Team, such a bunch of waste, trash and loser. With all these people to be added to fake Gloria’s administration, surely the country will be jumping from a frying pan to sure fire, and mutineer Gloria sure deserve all the credit. Please save the country from all these evil individuals.

There must be out there with little brain!

  29. Naku, Toney don’t be too sure that Malacanang has given up on the cha-cha.

  32. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

    Ellen:

Other candidates is also a great idea, it would be nice if we can ask them many direct important questions, such as, the environment (clean air and water), over population, problem with squatters squatting in open spaces that don’t belong to them, congestion in Manila immediate areas, what they can do to help the poor and employment opportunities within the country. Also, mostly interested in re-structuring the justice dept to make sure it doesn’t take 20 years to settle a case. And my great concerned is Manila Bay, Rivers and Bays which are becoming a dumping area of waste materials, including human waste.

Do you think those old farts will still be up past midnight? Anyway, why don’t you try to get a feel from those candidates when they can make themselves available. It’s now the great time to know where these candidates stand on important issues that concern the majority of the people in general. Not that it make any difference, but let ask anyway.

I would like to see Manny Pacquiao and Darlene Custodio at the same hour, it would be nice. And forget inviting Sultan Jamal Kiriam III, since I don’t think you’ve the time to teach him how to turn on the computer, and he might just get a shock and you’ll be responsible in taking him to the Ospital.

  33. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

    Ellen:

I never been so positive in my life, but this time there is nothing mutineer Gloria can do to put a life on the cha-cha, it’s absolutely dead. Finito! If I lose on this one, we have a date at a restaurant of your choosing, and you can bring all your bodyguards so you can feel safe. Deal?

It is just that so many times I posted some entries about my teenage niece I call Bibs, who once quoted to me that only a Magsaysay can beat a Magsaysay in Political arena. She is a great niece (grandaughter of “lolo Monding”), but most of them, the other Magsaysays are no longer in the country and just like most are sick and tired and what has become of the once promising Politics that was during the time of their Late Lolo.

My own brother in law, the Late President Nephew told me so many times that even their own clans are into the games, that his own Papa decided to bundle them all up and carry them all accross the ocean to spare his own children and that includes my darling Bibs…

This is not a joke anymore…

    Ellen,

    Toney C posted this:

“Look, I’ve nothing against whatsoever with Trillanes, I’m looking at this as a person on the outside with great respect with the law of the land. If we’re to move forward, we must first recognize that there are laws must be respected. If no one will respect the rule of law, what kind of a nation we would expect the Philippines and its future? Lets be smart, smarter than thousands of mutineer Gloria put together.

It’s a legitimate argument in regards to Trillanes availability.”

Simply put, Trillanes violated the the very simple rule that my mother impressed to my mind while I was still a kid, together with my brothers and sisters–”Do not eat the hands that feed you”. This is the very reason why I don’t like Trillanes to be elected. He also violated the very first word/values in the motto of every PMA graduate which is LOYALTY.

Lest we forget, his Magdalo Group had been reported to be in contact/coalition with the Communist Party of the Philipines/New People’s Army as gathered from the evidence recovered in possession of Lt San Juan when he was arrested somewhere in Batangas in the late 2005. I’ve seen the transcripts of their (Magdalo Group) conversation with Ka Roger and NPA leaders in Southern Tagalog provinces.

Early this morning, a group of Phil Army Engineers were ambushed in Compostela Valley by the New People’s Army (NPA), who were undertaking a Barangay Water System Project in a far-flung/depressed area, which resulted to the killing and wounding most of these non-combat soldiers. This is the very same group that the Magdalo Group had been talking to for the past years for a coalition to topple the present administration/government.

Do you think the soldiers, their families, and their friends will vote Trillanes if this reported coalition between the Magdalo Group and the NPA is still existing and later played up in the media? Who would vote a candidate who is identified with a group which is anti-development?

Trillanes has three (3) active bank accounts at CITIBANK (according to my sources). Somebody is managing such accounts even if he is in confinement/prison. Such accounts have lots of deposits in it. Who are the donors? Where is he getting his money? If such money deposited will be used for his campaign, how will he repay such campaign donation/donors once he is elected as a Senator? I guess, his wife does not know the existence of these bank accounts!

I need to play golf after my lunch…Hanggang bukas uli…

Ellen, have you watched the movie “Holiday”? Hopefully, I’ll have time to watch it tonite.

For me, though, the fact that those candidates would actually consider running in the first place is already indicative of the voting tastes of the public in general. The fact that a bozo like Pacquiao would consider candidacy, and the fact that we actually tremble at the thought means that such morons may actually win.

So with reagrd to what you said that my “statement is a direct insult to the people in general”, well, maybe I just call a spade a spade. Without meaning to insult, the fact remains that we do have a history of electing morons to office. The ascent to power of the likes of Erap, Joey Marquez, FPJ (almost), Jalosjos, Tito Sotto, and many others are facts of history that will forever blight our heritage.

It boggles the mind how a society of no less than 80 million souls (and rising) cannot produce a single good politician, much less 24 to run our Senate.

The fact that morons get air time on Pinoy TV (and people like you and me actually entertained by their antics) while entire armies of engineers and scientists produced by what still are some of Asia’s finest universities are largely ignored, underemployed, or earning big bucks for companies that dump brain-killing consumer non-durables into our economy says a lot about the character of Pinoy society.

People like you and I know that they are stupid. But I don’t think we are representative of what the rest of Pinoy humanity think. 😉

  66. Trillanes now in cahoot with the Communists? Oh no! Anything against the government is in cahoot with the Communists? Golly, si Joma nga, the only remaining Maoist-Communist I know hindi na nga communist! Capitalist na rin na nagtitinda ng CD according to a friend who has just been to the Netherlands. Lumang tugtugin na ang kinakanta mo, BK. Be more original, please.

Sayang!

Basta for a lot many of us, Trillanes is the answer to the problem of Filipinos.

My grandfather was one of them original KKK. He was in fact exiled to Guam for refusing to recognize US authority in the Philippines. Grand-uncle siya ni BGen. Alfredo Cayton as a matter of fact. I just don’t know if his brother, the grandfather of the BGen was also there when Antonio Luna was assassinated by Aguinaldo’s men headed by some dugong-aso!

Sayang bibilib na sana ako sa iyo, but not on what you say
about Trillanes because I have already set my heart to support this guy. Good sense and some unseen hands prompt me to do so for the love of the land of my birth.

As for the PMA, let them idiots try to clean the image of that stained institution first before you try to demand loyalty to it!

STOP GUTOM! STOP KURAKOT! VOTE STRAIGHT UNO VS UNANO!

The fact remains that he was unfit to be a politician. But that did not stop him from running for office, nor did it stop Pinoys from voting for him.

  70. Lumang tugtugin na ang sinasabi ng mga walang alam na if you are anti-establishment, you are a communist. Doon naman sa mga communist countries, sabi if you are not communist you are an imperialist! Now, who do you think is right the communist or the imperialist?

Worldwide, the enemies no are no longer the Commies but the Moslems according to the vocabulary of the mad man at the White House! Sure the FBI has listed CPP as a terrorist group but I know a lot many oldies of the Kabataan Makabayan now enjoying burgis life in the US of A. Thanks! I read your respond to mine and I appreciate it. I think we understand each other and the greatest problems facing Philippines, the lack thereof of honest qualified politicians running for office. As you can see, many of these politicians has no business being in the office, but the fact remain they are there doing more harm than good to the people they supposedly serve. This is one area perhaps the Pilipinos can do a better job in selecting someone will represent the interest of all Pilipinos and not just their own bank accounts abroad. We just have too may of those kind of dishonest politicians, since I can remember. It’s time to make a complete overhaul of our institutions – People can certainly do the impossible with the right person(s) who can lead. Who will be such person(s)?

Furthermore, certainly without any benefit of the doubt, the Pilipinos are the victim as the result of incompetent and corrupt leadership.

  74. Spartan,

There’s nothing wrong with a sense of humour. But to laugh at the same thing over and over again for the last 20 years is another thing. We’ve had idiot politicians since the Edsa I that supposedly “liberated” us from tyranny.

Hanggang ngayon all we do is laugh at our troubles instead of regarding them with the seriousness that any big problem warrants. Laughing what is otherwise a serious issue is sometimes a symptom of a deep-rooted sense of helplessness.

There is a halfway point between our joclular attitude to serious issues and the anarchy of bloody revolution. Our democratic institutions and processes supposedly provide the environment to exercise critical evaluation on the part of the electorate who participate in these processes. We even lack the conviction to drag these bozos into a formal debate focused on issues and platforms.

Check out the Wikipedia articles on Pinoy politics. There is a lot of info on personalities, but glaringly zilch on what these personalities and these parties stand for.

Where is that serious evaluation? Well, it may be present to some degree in discussions in blogs like these. But it certainly is not present in the mainstream. Tough luck for our society I guess, and another start on the cycle of mediocrity once these morons get elected into office.

  75. Toney,

RE: “Furthermore, certainly without any benefit of the doubt, the Pilipinos are the victim as the result of incompetent and corrupt leadership

Fair enough. But then again how long do we keep fancying ourselves as “victims”?

We need to escape this pathetic victim mentality and start imbuing an ethic of personal accountability for one’s actions. We have no one else to blame but ourselves for the stupidity of our politicians.

Back in 2005, nobody seemed to see the irony in how people derided Congress for failing to impeach Arroyo — the very same Congress that was voted into office by popular election by the very same people who took to the streets in protest.

The fact that morons making stupid remarks on national TV are given air time is because an equally hollow-headed public delights in such antics. The media is a business and they will always cater to the tastes of the society. What we see on TV is a reflection of our character. What we find funny is a reflection of our lack of resolve to institute deep systemic change in the very fabric of our character as a people.

  76. OFW OFW

Maybe the only sane thing we can do about the past is find humour in them. But for our future, one good suggestion I read earlier is to invite the candidates to talk to us through this site.

I can promise, for my part, a fair hearing, no four-letter words – no matter how well-deserved – and a personal verdict whether he/she got my vote. Candidates who would take the challenge should promise no verbal abuse, walang pikunan, and readiness to answer clearly and unequivocably.

Also, we might want to share info through this forum on the candidates – their voting record, advocacies, how much, how many, how they see their future, etc.

I’m sure I don’t have to educate you and others to our mentality as Pilipinos. Nothing that’s more important than having fiesta at all times. And I won’t even dare try. However, I did test some of my friends almost everyday for the three weeks, I kept it up, yet I didn’t get nowhere. It’s about community health issue, the lack of plumbing facilities occupied by the squatters in our area, yet the answered all the time that I was getting that the politicians need those squatters for their votes, never mind the community health problem or the epidemic that one day that the community may face. The short end of the story is, it’s not their highest priority that you and I would consider, all they want in life is where the next meal will come from. They couldn’t careless of fake Gloria and the Senators running for office, they don’t even know any of them. And these friends are I thought well informed. Yet their world are so confine and limited.

As a nation, we got a long way, we are not even close, our resolve and determination are certainly questionable. There are no accountability nor checks and balances in our institution, we tend to let everything pass, even major crimes of an individual(s), we let it go unresolved, tomorrow is just another day. I guess that sum up the way we deal with our problems, it will take care of itself.

  79. MR, hindi naman para balatan. Just to know more about them, their views on certain issues, and what we expect from them.

  80. BK, this talk about tons of money paid to Trillanes was peddled by the military after the Oakwood mutiny. That the acitivity was financed by somebody cannot be denied. In the same way hat some people financed Edsa I and Edsa II. So if it was not a crime to finance Edsa I and Edsa II (the financiers were even rewarded) why is i wrong to finance an activity?

Gloria is a power grabber (2001) and a cheat, thief and plunderer(2004). I consider any attempt to oust her a noble undertaking.

If the government has the goods on this alleged ill-gotten wealth of Trillanes, I’m sure they could have gone to town with it a long time ago.

  81. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Fabrication of evidences are the most common practice by this present administration. Prime example was Iggy Bunye with the tapes, testified in congress with full of fabricated lies, among others things. Sadly, the Congress let him off the hook unpunished. And Gonzales with the heart problem. Hence, anything that coming out of Malacanang, just can’t be trusted and I pressumed are nothing but total lies. Malacanang credibility is a complete zero, in my opinion. And mutineer Gloria is the biggest lie of them all, nothing that come close. Everything that mutineer Gloria does, or say are to be discarded as a waste of lies. That woman was born a liar. It’s a doggone shame that many Pilipinos has to suffer only because of mutineer Gloria’s lies. One day mutineer Gloria will pay for all the lies.

May the thousands monkeys from Zamboanga to one day visit mutineer Gloria’s bedroom un-annouce. The monkeys surely could’ve a feast and won’t know the difference of mutineer Gloria’s fat from a lie. Amen! And another Amen for goodluck. Amen!

My friends, What we are laughing in here is the concept of the answer from the questions. Is this the kind of mentality that we want them to represent our freedom and interest through the passages of bills for us to uphold ? A simple question, they could not give a direct answer. What we need is a legislature who are firm, principle man to tip the balance on our interest not being lopsided on the will of the president.

  94. Philippine Vigil,

Ewan ko nga e. It’s one thing to rant about it, but it’s another to come up with solutions. 😀

It took Europe three centuries before it could recover from the Dark Ages (a period not unlike the one the Philippines is going through — a period of ignorance, religious mysticism, and feudalism).

  95. Ellen,

Just read in the Inquirer: “Palace refuses to give copy of Melo report/Ermita: Findings still not complete

Well, maybe someone could be bold enough to steal a copy of the Melo report and make it public.

  96. In effect, Benigno, ain’t easy to come up with solutions.

Personally, I believe that those who are largely at fault are those people who have the education, the means, the wealth, the sophistication, the political maturity to effect change.

Unfortunately, these very same people are the ones who seemingly want to retain the status quo in the Philippines and are the ones who continue to sow political discord, confuse the issue, want to retain power in the hands of a few, etc, etc, etc..

As in any revolution, i.e., to achieve change, societal and otherwise, it is the middle class and the upper class that made a revolution possible.

The peasantry or the class of the dowtrodden merely followed.

The French Revolution, the Bolshevik Revolution, the American War of Independence and even the English “revolution” that produced the Magna Carta were examples of such revolution.

  97. Let me rephrase that, Benigno: ‘As in any revolution, i.e., to achieve change, societal and otherwise, it is the middle class and the upper class that STARTED and made a revolution possible.’

  98. peacer001 peacer001

    Ystakei, Mrivera,

The Sultan of Sulu elevated to the status Sultan of Brunei, must be flattered. Siyempre mas sikat at may K si Bolkiah ano!

  99. PV,

Gotta agree with that. The Philippine Elite controls much of if not all the information dissemination infrastructure of Pinoy society — the media, the movies, etc. Yet if you will look at the content of Philippine cinema (the only thing the masses have to divert their attention from their wretched existence), you will note how dismally shallow, vulgar, and mind-numbing the content being dished out to the masses is.

The Philippine Elite have it in their power to effect change. Grassroots change will not happen peacefully. Most revolutions that started at the grassroots were bloody. The Elite have all the tools to institute change peacefully.

But as with most social change, a philosophical infrastructure is needed. Pinoy society lacks a guiding philosophy similar to the Aristotelian and Confucian philosophies that underpin the prosperous West and North East Asian societies.

Without it, ours will always be a vacuous society — utterly lacking in substance and lacking in the intellectual tools to make democracy (a Western concept) work.

Natawa naman ako sa mga sagot ng ‘new faces with fresh ideas’ ng Team Unity. Just a thought, nilaglag nila ang isang artista (Richard Gomez) pero ang ipinalit naman nila ay mga komedyante.

  101. cvj cvj

The more the Philippine Elite represses the grassroots, the more violent the coming revolution will be, which is why the poor majority has to be encouraged to join in the conversation as equals. This means giving them the power to choose their leaders (aka genuine representative democracy) and, at the same time, encouraging the formation of grassroots organizations (i.e. genuine direct democracy). Where the elite can proactively help is in addressing the inequality that has retarded our development as compared to our neighbors. Trickle down policies are not enough.

  102. Peacer001: One of the first countries the Unano visited when she grabbed the presidency was visit Brunei, and the king there conferred her the title Princess Laila especially when some fraud advertised that the Macapagals were originally from Brunei and related to the king. Rather than probably encourage the Macapagals from claiming they also own part of Brunei and Sabah, after confirming perhaps that she would be contented with a title in a vain attempt to legitimize another claim of royalty, the king confered to her the title “Princess Laila.” Tuwang-tuwa naman ang ungas!

Same with Imeldific who felt like a royalty after brushing shoulders with the Saudi king and princes and the monarchs of Europe and Japan. Mga hibang! What they do not realize is that migration in ancient times were actually no different from the present-day diaspora of Filipinos-in search of green pastures! In ancient time, more for freedom!

  103. Oops, it should be freedom from slavery! Heard of stories of freemen? That’s what most Filipinos were theoretically according to a Chinese friend of mine.

  104. I agree cvj. To me, in this society and age, “Trickle down policies” are not only “not enough,” they also tend to reinforce the hold of to power of those that are authors of the “trickle down policy.”

There has to be a reasonable speed with which to apply those “trickle down” policies if only to avert a bloody revolution. Even today, I believe it – “the speedy trickling down of wealth” – can be done but it requires enormous will power and absolute good faith to achieve meaningful and lasting results.

  106. Benigno,

    True.

That’s why I said that a huge part of the blame could be attributed to the “Philippine elite”.

I believe that the solution to the huge problems facing the Philippines is not merely POVERTY – we have a wealthy nation – but our upper-middle and upper classes, those that make up the bulk of the so-called “Philippine elite” do not have the moral courage to face up to the task of nation building. I equate them with horses with blinders.

PV, i’m hoping that the next leader of the country (whether he/she be democratically elected as i would prefer, or a dictator), would summon the 300 wealthiest families of the Philippines to Malacanang and ask each of them for a workable plan to redistribute a portion of their wealth to the poor (e.g. as seed money for livelihood programs). This plan, once agreed upon, should then be closely monitored by the grassroots organizations for faithfulness of implementation and quality of execution. Within the ranks elite, they should also agree to police their own ranks of would be cronies. (For example, why hasn’t the Rotary or the Ateneo condemned Joc Joc or Mike Arroyo?)

  109. Agree cvj.

When almost three quarters of a nations’s wealth is in the hands of only a miniscule, tiniest of fractions of a nation’s population – something is bound to happen.

It cannot go on. These Filipino elite (and elitists) – millionaires, billionaires who are educated, politically sophisticated, well-connected, in control, etc. – shouldn’t wait before participating in the task of drafting AND implementing your plan for a violent revolution to happen because when that happens, it is likely that they would lose lots, if not most of their wealth.

Gloria is the wrong person to “summon” those people. A workable plan can only be possible if and when she is no longer at the helm.

PV, as i said, i oppose any form of dictatorship (which is why i oppose Gloria), but if we are to have one, it should be a dictatorship that uses its powers to attack the problem of inequality. If we have one of those Latin American-type right-wing military dictatorships, then only the elite (and drug lords) will benefit. Mao’s China and Ho Chi Minh’s Vietnam where the dictators were former grassroots revolutionaries are better models as their respective economic take-offs have shown. I agree that a Mahathir-scenario would be an improvement over today, but i fear our local version of Mahathir would just become a tool of competing elites whether it be Danding Cojuangco or Lucio Tan which brings us back to square one as far as inequality is concerned.

  119. cvj,

We put too much emphasis on personalities, like if an individual will have a perpetual hold on institutions, instead we should put a lot of emphasis on institutions that no individual can topple or destroy once the foundation stood up and need only to be tinkered for more improvements. Even the great political thinkers of the past, The Lincoln, Washington and the rest know that they themselves come and go, so they build the institutions that no matter how many George Bushes come after, the Jimmy Carters and some, it will withstand the assaults still stood strong when the smoke clears.

Pierre Trudeau has left the scene, but added to our institution, another solid rock to add to its strength, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Chretien, a good leader he was, was disgraced by the sponsorship scandal of his tenure, but that same institution never was shook up and get out even stronger.

Now this election, since I myself decided not to raise my right hand to swear allegiance to a country which Citizenship I never renounced (another stupid rule), I decided to forego the legality of being a dual citizen, but consider myself a Filipino, and that can never be changed, I won’t not have the privilege to vote in a national Candidates. So my only wish is to look at the person and the Rock he or she will be bringing to start building the Institution, vote for that candidate and if he/she can not make use of that rock take it out of his/her hands and throw it back right on the face…

  122. Vic,

Those institutions are EXISTING already, and more than just in theory, in the Philippines.

What you need are people to re-enforce these institutions, eg., Pierre Trudeau in Canada, Charles de Gaulle in France, etc.

  123. cvj cvj

PV, that’s a good question, but i don’t have a name off the top of my head. Mahathir (who wrote the “Malay Dilemma” which was temporarily banned) was known for his strong advocacy of affirmative action of the poor Malay majority. He and his party made affirmative action for the Malays as the centerpiece of their development plan. So if a local version exists, it would be someone who comes from the Philippine Left (Bayan Muna or Akbayan) or, at least with, aggressive pro-poor/anti-inequality leanings. I’d also be curious on where Trillanes or Faeldon would stand on this matter. They certainly have the courage and leadership skills, but i have no idea on their ideology.

  124. cvj,

We surely have that type of person – one comes close to a local version of Mahathir.

It is my belief that when the opportunity does arise, he/she will be bold and courageous to do things.

Need not be from the military although why not? Mahathir was a local Langkawi doctor who rose to national prominence because of his convictions AND COURAGE.

  125. vic vic

    PV,
Yes we do have the institutions, but their foundations so weak that any child with a pocket full of gold, can put a finger on them and they start crumbling down.

What I’m really suggesting here, it since the voters come May, will have to vote for those carpenters and builders, they should start looking at them as builders and carpenters and send them to rebuild the same institutions, that will be strong enough to withstands all evils that will surely comes to test their streght.

And if we can only visualize all the evils in Indiana Jones adventures, that melted away for even their evil intentions, then we don’t even need elections…

  126. Unfortunately, how many are bona-fide of those candidates fielded are carpenters and builders?

    Many are demolision trained.

State prosecutors cite Olivares’ columns, editorials as proof

Inciting to sedition raps filed vs Tribune chief
    By Benjamin B. Pulta/15/2007

In the day of hearts, the Tribune publisher and editor-in-chief, Ninez Cacho-Olivares, was slapped by the state prosecutors with the criminal charge of “inciting to sedition,” along with two columnists of the paper.

The charges were reported to have been submitted to the Manila Trial Court with a recommended bail of P12,000.

An arrest warrant is being expected by Olivares, who was not even given a copy of the resolution of the case, even as this was distributed to Justice beat reporters.

    Check out http://www.tribune.net.ph

  129. Heh! Olivares is absolutely spot on:

“Olivares said there was absolutely nothing “grossly abusive” about her articles, but that in any case, it is NOT for the “morons in the police force and the state prosecutors” to judge what is abusive or not.”

DoJ chief links opposition to Gloria ouster plot

    02/15/2007

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez yesterday said he has new evidence that would prove that some opposition personalities were behind the destabilization plots against the Arroyo administration.

He claimed that some members of the political opposition “conspired” with disgruntled military rebels who want to topple the government by “funding” their activities.

Gonzalez made the revelation in the aftermath of the inclusion of Lt. Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes IV in the lineup of the opposition in its senatorial slate for the May 14 elections.

The Justice chief said he has in his possession a sworn-statement of an incumbent official showing that some rebel groups are receiving money from the opposition.

nelbar, I browse the site, and partially read the papers about Trudeau. I was already here during the Trudeau Mania, as we called it. Trudeua was a contradiction that so many has still to write about for a long time. I was never a fan of him myself, because, even during his time I was already a member of the Conservative Party, an oppostion party, but there was no denying, that Trudeau policy of stubborness, mixed in with compromise when things didn’t go his way (espcecially against the equally famous Quebecoir in Rene Levesque) had left a legacy that is lasting, and that we are all grateful for..

If she gives them the official key to unlocking doors, and they find that she’s wilfully distorted the reports and moreover, find that she has command responsibility for some of those killings, the EU will BLACKBALL HER, FREEZE HER and HER FAMILY’s ASSETS, take her to the international criminal court and other places.

Areglo? Corruption iyan sa totoo lang. Lahat naaareglo!

    1. Rep. Roilo Golez: “This is the wrong ring for him. Ibang labanan ang pulitika. Walang gloves.

    4. Maging ang administration congressman na si Rep. Prospero Nograles ay hindi pabor sa pagsabak ni Pacquiao sa pulitika: “It’s a classic case of the beauty and the beast.”

Recto, Angara, Sotto and other balimbing candidates, whenever asked why they joined Gloria’s ticket inspite of their previous stand against her cheating, stealing and lying ways, say “ forget the past, let’s be forward looking”.

This campaign line won’t work, guys. The public will vomit each time they hear this line. Sounds too much like the administration’s oft-repeated quote of last year…”Let’s move on, let’s move forward”. (and forget all the cheating and lying and stealing and killing). Really think we’re stupid, don’t you?

  176. joeseg joeseg

Hindi ito joke but an outrage by the public against ASO (Angara, Sotto and Oreta).

    1. Go with the Cheaters! Sen. Edgardo Angara, Tito Sotto and Tessie Oreta were the principal managers of the FPJ presidential campaign. They were vociferous in saying, not one but many time, that FPJ won but was cheated by GMA. Now, they are sharing the same platform with GMA.

    2. Ngayon tumanggap kayo ng pera galing sa administration. binenta n’yo iyong kaluluwa at prinsipyo n’yo. Balimbing, Mukhang pera, Walang prinsipyo. ASO talaga.

  177. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

By the way, I like the opposition’s monicker for Team Unity. They call it Team GMA. That’s really what it is. Quite effective. Drives home the point that this election is really all about Gloria.

‘Pork’ used as lure for special session

    By JESS DIAZ

    The Philippine Star

What will make congressmen attend the special session of Congress on Monday and Tuesday?

It is pork barrel fund releases, according to House Majority Leader Prospero Nograles.

“Everyone will be following up and waiting for his or her pork barrel release. Even I will do that,” Nograles told reporters Thursday.

He said his chamber’s leadership is making arrangements with the Department of Budget and Management for the release of the funds before the start of the election-related construction ban.

“These are entitlements of our districts and our constituents,” he said.

He said most congressmen are waiting for their pork barrel fund releases for the last quarter of 2006 and the first quarter of this year.

Congressmen have P70 million each in pork barrel allocations. However, only members of the majority and a few of the minority get their releases. Most minority members, including representatives of left-leaning party-list organizations, have not been getting their allotments.

Nograles was commenting on the warning of opposition congressmen that the majority had better ensure a quorum or the two-day special session called by President Arroyo would just be a waste of time and taxpayers’ money.”

    *****************************

The mere fact that Gloria’s Dogs occupy seats in the Bastusan Pambansa is a WASTE of People’s money !

They have to be lured by this pork barrel to attend a session ?? Walang hiya !!! TONGress nga ang tawag dito !

How appalling this mere TONGressman Nograles to non-chalantly, & w/ no qualms, admit that he, too, will wait for his pork barrel release in exchange for his presence in Congress.

    Ang kakakapal ninyo !

Nasabi mo pa. Ang kakapal and no qualms that they are only after the pork barrel. I posted in another thread something similar but it was about Angara.

    Joeseg,
It’s good you raised this issue on Pakyaw again. I posted something that thread but it was lost to blog purgatory. What I said there was I thought only the oncoming April bout would give complications to this dumbo’s campaign since the fight would have to be televised, against the election code rules.

On the same thought, I realized he stands similarly on shaky ground in regard to his various product endorsements, 12 per my last count, whose owners would probably raise hell should his very expensive commercial spots be banned for the whole 3 months duration of the election period. I even thought this was already resolved when he announced months ago he’s decided against running for office. I figure his party may have struck a deal with these company owners and are now ready to pit this unschooled athlete with my Darlene (ehem).

With San Miguel alone, he stands to lose over a hundred million pesos (including a beer variety in his name). I wonder if his handlers think they can forego of such deals hoping they will get more in exchange, hmmm? I don’t think so. Darlene is just one seat and it’s silly to spend all that, to the point of risking Pakyaw’s career and future earnings for ONE seat. Or Pakyaw’s just stupid!

Now this issue on his residency. I believe it’s serious enough since Abalos himself is sounding the emergency alarm. Abalos could spell doom in his case, and if he does, good for Darlene. But he might also uphold Pakyaw’s Gensan residency later like a one-two combination when the little darling’s guards are down. Goes either way.

Pakyaw’s entry is a lost cause already if the judges are trustworthy but hey, there is no such a thing in the Philippines. This early, my Darlene’s camp should take the legal battle to its fullest and start hittin’ the champ where it hurts most – in the head! Go for the KO in the first round! If he survives, he would be hurting all over that before May comes, he might just throw in the towel.

Why am I so concerned with this match? We should all be. The Senatorial bets of UNO are shoo-ins already, they just need to watch the ballots. We should focus instead on the House contest – that is where CHANGE will begin in 2007!

A Senate sweep for UNO and a House sweep for Team Gloria will just bring us back to square one and three more years of suffering.

Nevertheless, let’s keep that 12-0 goal in mind. Again, think of ONE vote as ONE horsewhip whacking across the Midget’s stinking little ass.

Maximize! Make that 12 whacks on every ballot. Go for 12-0! No need to be choosy…NOT IN THIS ELECTIONS…Maybe next time! For now, vote straight UNO!

With the ban of candidates on ads not related to elections, Pakyaw is no exception. We read that Richard Gomez images ceased to be included in billboards and tv pluggings the moment he filed his candidacy. It follows that the fight of Pakyaw in April will not be shown or broadcasted. At ang malungkot pa niyan, when before everybody is praying for him to win, it is certain that it will be a different atmosphere come his fight day.

I wonder how many days the Siraulo alongside with the tiyanak’s bodyguards (the two hemmorhoids) had to put the soldier(who excuted the affidavit)through confinement and bartolina to get the false affidavit? No honorable officer and gentleman in the AFP will buy this testimony. Only tiyanak’s morons!

If indeed most of the bloggers here are overseas, they are more powerful because they can induce more voters to vote against the Team Tiyanak!

Papaanong kukuha si tiyanak ng matitinong kandidato eh di ba balak niyang isulong ulit yung Parlimentary Unicameral government niya after the elections? That is if she will be able to cheat again!

Kiko Noted is another Kapampangan and being true to the nature by which his fellow provincemates are known. Alam mo na kung ano iyon.

What I will do is pray about him and see what kind of prompting I will have. Then, I will have him dropped if I still get this uncanny feeling about him.

I am prejudiced against him as a matter of fact even when I tell my friends here to vote straight UNO. Somehow, I cannot find the right cliche for this person. My friends in the UPAA in Japan question his inclusion in the UNO because we have never heard him do something about improving the lot of our Alma Mater as he has promised he would.

If I continue to have this feeling, then we campaign only for just 10 or 11 of the UNO members. Villar, on the other hand has promised is constituents to the UNO. We’ll see.

At times, like this, I depend greatly on the wisdom of prayers, which I will do sans the profanity.

Meanwhile, I say STOP GUTOM! STOP KURAKOT! IBOTO DIRETSO UNO VS UNANO!

  196. Sinabi mo pa, PSB. I have over 1,000 members in my group, and in our coalition for instance we have more than 6,000 members, mostly Filipinos married to Japanese, and all are registered Philippine voters, and so are my Filipino staff at the office. I may not be able to vote, but I have accreditation to be a foreign observer. I actually supervised the members of a religious group in Japan that helped poll watched the last election, and we did discover some anomalies that we, unfortunately, did not get any satisfactory answer.

With this blog, at least, I can inform all the concerned first hand about such possible anomaly and discrepancy in the counting of votes. This time around, we are definitely much, much more prepared and ready.

    CVJ,

Ibig sabihin immediate cure in the current situation. In the long run this could be followed by the process slowly putting the right system, which I believe federal form due to the different Filipino culture. Hindi bat Ganyan ang nangyari sa Singapore? Sa Malaysia?

The fact is our current politicians, in both side of the fence are all shit! Wala kang pagkakatiwalaan. Galit ang oposisyon sa mga military, yet in their own list military personnel are candidate (lacson and trillanes). Instead of party affiliations, ideology and program, they all focus on self interest agenda. Labo labo! This situation required an immediate, swift implementation of cure! Followed by a steady process of system implementation according to our own culture.

Yes we all oppose to dictatorship form of govt, but the current political situation hostage Philippine development. Between two evil, dictatorship is the immediate cure! The bitter pill! The current form may take us another 100 years to take off without a clear result while in dictatorship, maybe we can shot a deal within another 20 years, and between 2 evil, I prefer the 20 years. Now before you react, please put in your mind the current situation top by the Filipino culture.

I don’t think there are any shortcuts. The Philippine military is infested with the same kind of corruption as our other institutions. The best thing the members of the military can do for now is to clean its own house. The renewal of our politicians will depend on the renewal of our people and this can only take place in a transparent and open environment where evil doers can be exposed.
