  1. It’s a crime to produce babies you can’t feed, you can’t educate and you can’t care for. That’s an even bigger crime in my book than if those blokes used condoms to try to prevent their partner/s getting pregnant, especially when they have no food, no roof, no money to feed another mouth! Totally, utterly, despicably irresponsible…

Easy to blame the Pope but it ain’t the pope who sticks his ‘testosterones’ (OK, I know they ain’t called that but you get the gist?) into some sack of ovules to multiply so why blame the poor Pope? Don’t mind the Pope, mind yourselves! I bet most of those who make babies don’t even go to church or attend mass on Sunday anyway.

Blame the government if you want to blame anybody — blame this stupid, stinking government for not providing the resources to effect a clear birth control policy (if only to distribute free condoms, give free IUDs, set up family planning centers, hotline centers, etc., etc.,) and worse, for not informing the sizzling hot public on how not to frigging make more babies when they veritably cannot afford it! C’mon! It’s plain common sense.

Gloria is a hypocrite! Filipinos shouldn’t listen to her. She wants Filipinos to continue reproducing like rabbits so she can deploy them to far-flung regions of the earth and send dollars back home to prop up her corrupt government. Gloria is nothing but a superstitious, hypocritical, dumb bitch!

The Population explosion is not influenced by the Church as we have seen in China before the Chinese communist government decided to radically enforced the one child per family policy, BUT..but the lack of desire and the lack of any comprehensive national programs and of course if there is one, the “Missing Funds”.

The Middle class and the Lower class are not religious apart, if ever they are religious, but if anyone can take the statistics the Middle or Upper Middle class bear lesser children for the only reason that they can afford the expense of Birth Control resources. Now, if the government can not even implement programs for food sufficiency, can’t even make themselves refrain from committing corruptions, blaming the Church, (although the Church could be very helpful in everything, buy they too are useless) and the rest just won’t wash up…lest they first washed themselves.

Here’s some interesting documentaries about the state of population in the Philippines:

95% of church goers are the poor. 99% of that pray to win the lotto and jueteng. They pray that the next many kids they produce will solve all their weary problems. 99% of bloggers and texters blame the church for the ever increasing populations, some in jests, others seriously. The one percent who do not blame the church are only trying to look good to their boss in the government or just afraid of the church.
My gosh, we are definite the church is nothing but money makers only, and I can not understand why we can not divorce ourselves from it. At least you come out now and kick out the church from our turf. Unless we do it, I forsee when you reach your dying age, your families will be happier if you’ll just vanish. Saves them the cost for their rice queued at the barangay outlets with precious coupons. Soylent green isnt far anymore. So Down with the Church.

Just like my grandma used to talk down to my mother. Am not saying that you are a grandma, but you do make sense. But there is no ‘sticker if there is no stickee’. That is the law of nature. Another law of nature, which escapes gloria, is that when people have jobs to attend to, they have less time to proliferate. In the absence of jobs, men naturally ‘work’ on their women. It’s a no brainer … even cavemen knew that.

  6. Anna: I bet most of those who make babies don’t even go to church or attend mass on Sunday anyway.
    ******

Sinabi mo pa, Anna. They must be in bed making babies!!! Frankly, if they are given jobs and really work hard, I doubt that they can even have the energy to do nothing but make babies, even unwanted ones since most of the times the babies come accidentally!!!

It still boils down in fact to responsible parenthood and family planning even by exercising some restraint or control over oneself or one’s passion, self-restraint, control, self-control, abstinence, moderation, temperance, self-denial, self-repression, self-discipline, self-censorship, etc.

  7. …to do anything but make babies….

  8. Look Yuko, if this government can only draft a clear family planning policy complete with the means, eg, educational centers, hotlines or whatever, Filipinos can fxxk all they want — if they know how to try to reduce chances of getting themselves pregnant, then the Philippines won’t have these overpopulation and hunger infested problems.

Not saying they shouldn’t behave like rabbits and fxxxk whatever or whoever or whichever animal they want to on the condition that they shouldn’t dump their sorry progenitures in the streets because they can’t feed them — but again, the real criminals here are those pseudo-religious people in government who are committing a crime by luring the people to multiply on the basis of some superstitious, Medieval age beliefs!

The Philippines and Filipinos are in one seriously sorry mess. But hang on, maybe they want to remain beggars all their lives! Pathetic… what a shitty mentality!

  9. I just learned from Stuart Santiago’s blog that the school curriculum includes some kind of anatomy lessons but NOT sex education in the educational sense of the term which is the first step towards educating the young on what parenting is all about and at the very least, the dangers that await the young ‘uns when they resort to unsafe sexual practices.

This government is composed of idiotic people — educated people? HAH! As Yuko likes to say, they went through school aping and monkeying, memorizing the texts but not understanding them. No wonder Pinas is in such a mess. (So very similar to the community of apes in the African gorilla and chimp reservations!)

  10. That said, I admire Filipinos for their resilience: sock it to them and they will still welcome their aggressors with open arms (just look at the pictures of people queuing for rice welcome Gloria with open arms! Anywhere else in the world, and Gloria, after her abuses, her cheatings, her lyings, her corruptions, would have been a dead duck several times over!)

They bear the degradation, the humiliation and the poverty with cleched fists and gritted teeth, with great aplomb even, as they fiesta their way to forgetting.

I feel sorry for Filipinos but at the same time I don’t. My sympathy is reserved for the person who respects himself by fighting his oppressor!

  11. Ah… But of course, we must not forget that Filipinos believe in the “rule of law” even if there is NO rule of law as such in the Philippines.

They are to be envied for their patience, their resilience, their optimism, their unflinching faith in the Almighty as they depend on Him and His saints for little mercies, but shit, even a cowardly dog has self-respect, it bites when cornered!

  12. Filipino society is akin to a grumbling and furious Mount Pinatubo that’s still containing itself and can do so for generations just as Filipinos bore Spanish abuse for over three centuries and when they did decide to rebel, they first killed each other instead of turning all of their guns and their fury against the enemies.

  13. When I worked as a tourist guide/escort in the 70’s, I remember that one of the tour paraphernalias we were told to bring with us were boxes and boxes of condoms for use of our tourists expected to go on a night tour and ending up with girls to sleep with at night.

I actually abhorred distributing those condoms to those tourists because of my religious beliefs but I had a duty to perform. I always actually looked forward to travelling with a fellow tour escort who was male, for I could feel the tourist raising their eyebrows when I would do it.

Lots of times, I would have a number of those condoms returned to me.

You bet! There is a need to educate these horny Filipinos, male and female alike, even on the effects of the VD rampantly being spread by them. Buti nga lang magaling magtakip ang mga kurakot sa Pilipinas ng problema including the epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, gonorrhea, etc., even HIV. Tinatago pa, talaga naman!

  14. Over in Japan, Anna, you’ll find vending machines for condoms everywhere. I remember a time when an American friend, who could not read Japanese, mistook such for a vending machine for cigarettes.

One day he mistakenly bought a pack that he could not return when he realized his mistake. He tried to sell it then to another friend, who in turn tried to sell it to me.

I declined because at that time I was in fact undergoing treatment to be fertile as I was suffering from some secondary sterility.

You say it is pathetic that there are more children born to the poor in the Philippines. I’d say it is ironic that the poor could have more children than the rich.

  15. chi chi

A sick population equals a sick nation.

  16. Chi,

Well said! Absolutely! And that’s what the Philippines is today: SICK, PATHETICALLY SICK!

  17. Xman,

Just accessed the link you cited there; thanks! Here’s what I posted in Philippine Commentary:

    Dean,

Amadeo said it well: “But beyond the Church, let us not also forget to lay the blame on the people themselves – who refuse to know better, Church strictures notwithstanding. I see no guns being held against their heads.”

You say, “The big difference is that they are Buddhist and we are Catholic.”

Blame the Church? Utterly stupid. As you said yourself, (Catholic countries) France, Spain, Italy, and let’s not forget Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, and other Catholic-predominated countries do not suffer from overpopulation despite or in spite of Church admonitions against the use of contraception. (And by gum, these nations can afford to populate if they want to — they are stable and prosperous!!!!)

Why? Simple: their governments are strong, they are level-headed, they do not have wishy-washy leaders, they do not have a liliputian whore at the helm with gargantuan lust for power, they do not allow themselves to be bamboozled by Mediaval-age superstitions, they believe in the Social Contract, they believe that they owe their jobs to the people and not to any religious, pontificating men and women of any religious denominations but most of all, because they take their responsibilities seriously, i.e., welfare, well-being, prosperity of their people.

You cited the example of Ferdinand Marcos’ family planning that was copied by Thailand; shows you that at the end of the day, public policies are drafted, implemented and enforced for the good of a nation’s citizens by governments and not by the Church.

As Marvin said quite rightly, “So why are we blaming the Catholic Church again for the population growth?

The blame for the sorry mess that the Philippines faces should be laid squarely at the doorstep of Malacanang and not that of Quiapo Church. Political will is only good if it’s crafted and enforced or there’s been no clear policy with respect to family planning or birth control in the Philippines; a policy should be accompanied by resources and by tangible means so that the public may be guided accordingly.

This government has failed the people at all levels; it is inept, corrupt and criminal.

Stupid, idiotic, senseless drivel to blame the Church (How many (military) divisions/regiments does the Church in the Philippines have anyway?)

  18. Sorry, wasn’t Marvin who wrote the following (in italics above) but me:

If Korap Gloria had moral right to govern, she could have easily implemented the existing family planning program of the government that Marcos started or set up her own program without tiptoeing in the church’s doctrine. Problem is she avoids hurting the church leaders for the sole reason of survival.

Government information officers should go around the towns and barrios and give info/education seminars to parents on the advantages of having a limited number of children at least, not necessarily discussing with them artificial birth control if the current administration (albeit fake) doesn’t want to go against the church’s doctrine on the issue.

The problem of population explosion in the Philippines puts religion and the state at the spotlight. True, the Catholic church opposes artificial methods of controlling population. But the govt is supposed to be in-charge. It is the overall manager and key player in pushing for the general welfare of the people. Apparently, it does not play well in those roles. It is only good at paying lip service to matters that affect the public good.

Masyadong busy ang Arroyo govt sa scheming on how to get rich easily.

Nagpapakain ba sila ng mga gutom, or nagproprovide ba sila ng shelter to the homeless? Nakupo, eh ayaw pa nila ng barya sa offertory, well i heard it myself brom Father Ramirez, a long time ago. Pera pera din lamang sila sa ngayon.

Same banana. The church is very much aligned with whatever Gloria wants and whims. I think Gloria said one time she was born of heaven or was it her position was given by God. Heard she was jockeying at the Vatican to hurry up sainting her own kin. Both Gloria and the church wants more people to milk out.

  23. Why should the Dorobo try to control the population growth. Diyan siya kumikita. Remember? The Philippines No. 1 Export Commodities are the Filipinos who are even deployed to countries where they are unwelcome and/or at war as those Filipinos getting kidnapped, etc. in Africa and the Middle East.

Pinupuno na nga nila ang mundo. Over in the Land of the Rising Sun for instance, there are a number of children born out of illicit relationships between Filipinos, who would not even take precautions, but some idiots would even try to get into family registries of some Japanese to get visas. Nagkahigpitan tuloy.

Again its the idea of the church to distribute only the 18.25 peso rice to the chosen people of religion and politics.
Just because they didnt save for the rainy days, the cheap rice of the NFA should not be the monopoly of the ‘poor’. Its a government rice. There should be no discrimination in this democratic republic. Some are smarter to manage their lives so they are also protected with what we call laizzes faire and caveat emptor and whatnot. Its their money that was ransacked by the govt to get the NFA rice in the first place. They have the freedom of choice not only with what they want to eat but what they would pay and to queue or not to queue. Its not their fault that the govt run haywire. Besides, controls like the access card just breed other problems. Down with the church, kneel down to glory.

The growth of population in the Philippines is out of control, thanks to all the hotties and hot blooded Pinoys who are also out of control in their quest to produce more and more babies even if they know that they can’t afford to support a big family. The crux of the matter is the blame should be put squarely on the shoulder of every Filipino man and woman who do nothing but make babies. They have their own mind to decide what is right and wrong. Why in the first place decide to form a family when the prospect of giving the necessities of life is not within reach. Why not look around and see those kids roaming and panhandling in the streets and make a case of it. Filipino men and women are not stupid, not idiots to not know what they are going into. It’s just a case of having a family for the sake of having a family, not to be outdone by Juana or Pedro and no plans for the future. It’s a case of que sera sera, whatever will be will be, and the final word that will come from their mouth “ May awa ang Diyos, makakaraos din kami”. Such a typical Filipino family.

“…, ang pinakamataas na pagdami ng populasyon ay sa mga mahihirap na parte ng Pilipinas lalo na sa Region 12 (Lanao del Norte, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat) at Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao)…”—–National Stat Office (NSO)

eto na po, ginawan na ng opisyal na justification ang mga abnormal, and statistically improbable number of voters para matakpan ang iskandalosong maniobrahan tuwing eleksyon (remember the main beneficiary during the last election, the the Senator from Maguinadanao, Miguela Zubiri?)

well-meaning Pinoys should be wary of statistical surges and aberrations, given the crooks penchant to twist, abuse, shift every conceivable, often criminal, ways to justify subverting of people’s will and choice during elections.

the Comelec, say, utterly deplorable and scandalous as it is, always allow official canvassing of votes to proceed even when there were more votes casted than those actually registered.

but, with NSO-doctored data at hand, the gullible watcher-observer, may take pronouncements from the poll body with less-than-usual skepticism or worse, accept the official line as naked truth.

    AdeBrux,

This is not a case of just a Quiapo Church. This is Vatican lead worldwide campaign against contraception, except for the natural rhythm method.

The Roman Catholic Church is wielding enormous religious and political influence in the world, especially in a predominantly Catholic population like Philippines.
It is the same thing with Buddhism in Thailand. Hence, religious influence in the Philippines and Thailand are impossible to ignore.

I am not aware of Thailand’s Buddhism that went against government’s family planning program because it is in consonance with their philosophical beliefs of offering set of practices to end or ease suffering. In the Philippines when the Roman Catholic Church instructed their followers not to use contraception does anyone here in this blog really believe that it has no effect to the general Catholic population? What is the effect on the corrupt politicians in the Philippines? This Roman Catholic Church also uses their political influence to satisfy their self-serving agenda, especially if you are dealing with an illegitimate de facto president. Will that tiyanak dare against the wishes of the Roman Catholic Church, i.e. dare to sufficiently fund and implement an effective family planning program? By the way, this political influence had been employed by Vatican in their dominion for at least the last 1300 years. So, this is nothing new.

The other major components in this population fiasco are the people themselves. What kind of mentality does Filipinos have? Their brain cells? LOL…. What are the causes that will encourage or discourage the different segments of population to determine the size of family that they want? Are pinoys OPEN MINDED ENOUGH to learn from sex education? Funds needed? Political situations? Etc…

Did the Philippine Center for Population Development (PCPD) did not look at the other major component in the equation, the people of the Philippines?
Is PCPD dumb enough not to employ economist, statisticians, and other consultants to look at the data and factored in all those things before pointing its finger to the Roman Catholic Church? If PCPD don’t have pool of consultants to interpret data then they ought not to be in the business of promoting effective birth control method throughout the archipelago.

  28. I still believe that its a matter of education. A great number of our fellowmen are ill-equipped for the decisions that lay ahead and ignorance makes them vulnerable to corruption not just from government but of the flesh.
Critical thinking is virtually unknown to most of us, preferring to be led by the stomach, temper, and loins. If we take a look at the psychological profile of the bigger portion of the population we will be surprised to find out that the make up is still in the “id” stage of development. Knowing this, any shrewd opportunist with the means will just zoom in on the “stomach” and “loins” weaknesses and they will be led like lambs anywhere.
How many OFWs are we now? If we take one child each under our wing to educate, I believe we are investing in a more viable future.
Yes. The Filipino is worth it, even if most of them do not have much of a self esteem. For us who were fortunate enough to be born above this level, we know better…

  29. “Ayon sa detalya ng sensus, ang pinakamataas na pagdami ng populasyon ay sa mga mahihirap na parte ng Pilipinas lalo na sa Region 12 (Lanao del Norte, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat) at Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao.”

We are the most pampered people in the world. In the 80s, after EDSA, our population was about 56 million. Now, our population is 88 million. that is an increase of 32 million (almost the entire population of Canada). In twenty years, we have added a whole country to our population. Have we added a whole country’s GDP to our GDP? No.

That explains why there are more poor and hungry people. This alone will explain why it is difficult to believe the administration’s claim that the people’s lives are improving.

  37. xman,

Right — but I have cited the examples that are France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and a host of other Catholic dominated nations in Europe — and yet, these countries are not suffering from overpopulation (see my comment above).

And why not? Simple! At the end of the day, governments, national leaders, a state’s legislators, national insititutions, etc. are the ones that draft, implement or enforce national/State policies on birth control and DEFINITELY NOT the Catholic church.

It is in that regard that I say that we SHOULDN’T BLAME the Catholic Church for the failure of a government to proclaim, draft, implement and enforce a policy for the good of its citizens!

Attack your government instead — for not doing what is right when it comes to the physical well-being and prosperity of a nation’s citizens! Don’t give them the excuse that they cannot do anything about this because of the Catholic Church — if the priests do not like what they hear — tough! Government must be tough or resign!

  38. It is utter hogwash for a nation to blame a religious denomination, whether Catholic, non-Catholics, etc., for failure of its government to craft and enforce a clear policy involving the welfare, well being and prosperity of a nation’s citizens.

The blame if any should be laid at the doorstep of the government that people HAVE VOTED to oversee the nation’s welfare (and if at all, people should BLAME THEMSELVES).

There should be no other pretext for failure to do what must be done to better themselves — the people must act or forever deserve their sort!

  39. In 1789 France waylaid religion and in the late 1800, France finally cut off its umbelical cord from the stronghold of the Catholic Church (separating Church and State completely) when the French government felt that the welfare of its citizens was paramount.

Don’t tell me it cannot be done again!

  40. Republic of Ireland, one of the poorest European nations and one of the most backward and virulently Catholic countries in the world has just done it making divorce and abortion legal!

Until 15 years ago was country I likened to the Philippines for its poverty and its sooooo backward reliance on religion (where the poorer the family was, the more babies they had), considered the sick man of Europe — Ireland today is one of the most stable and prosperous nations in the world with one of the best qualities of life!

Do you know why the Commission on Population is a flop? I think it’s headed by one Executive Director Osias or Obias. How can it succeed when two members who sit at the Board are from the Catholic Church, one Opus Dei and the other Couples for Christ. These two very conservative members of the Commission are the ones dictating the Executive Director what to decide and do.

Remember that Bill passed in QC sponsored by a certain Councilor Juico? It was not signed by QC Mayor Belmonte after DOH Sec. Duque and Gloria Arroyo herself ordered and pressured Belmonte not to sign. Here we have an evil government that’s captive of similar evil Catholic Church. The church is not only ignorant of the benefits of the Population Control; but goes on twisting the teachings of God to push her fake moral campaign. God’s teaching is very clear: Increase and multiply but SUBDUE it.

I’m from California” , “I’m from NY”, “helo weskost”

Taga-Meril Lints at WolStrit”

Nelbar, I think those who attend the shows are presumed to be Balikbayan; so there’s no need for them to introduce themselves as Pinoys. I think it’s alright for them to say what countries and cities they’re from. What I want to see is Pinoys admitting that they come from the Philippines in other countries. Don’t be surprised many refuse to disclose their country of origin and don’t even speak our language.

Ano kamo?

Both ways, pro and anti-birth, may pera pa rin sila! Ulol talaga! Galing talaga ng mga hayop sa kurakutan!

Remember the Fat Guy’s free denture program to the poor? We don’t hear about it anymore. It was another kick back.

Nelbar, you’re right…that free denture and insurance for the cab drivers came at the same time. We don’t hear about those anymore. I wonder how much this Fat Guy got from the two scams.

    dominique,

Behind the numbers, you are barking at the wrong arithmetic.

In 1970 both Thailand and Philippines each had about 37 million people. Muslims account to about 5% of the population of the entire archipelago. So, in 1970 it translates to about 1.85M pinoy muslims.

The most current census shows Thailand with 66M and the Philippines with about 89M. Philippines is 23 million more people compare to Thailand because of that great harlot (Roman Catholic Church).

Now, let’s look at the arithmetic:

The highest growth rate is in ARMM’s area at 5.46%.

Multiply 23M by 5.46% will give you a product of 1.26M

Hence, only 1.26M muslims were added to the population from 1970 to present.

To simplify the computation I used the highest growth rate of 5.46% in ARMM’s area as the average growth rate of muslims for the entire archipelago and multiply that by the aggregate increase of 23M in the entire archipelago.

Multiply 23M by 5.46% will give you a product of 1.26M
