Francis Pangilinan at Rep.

Meron pang Koala Bear alyas Robin.

Totoo, maraming palpak. Dapat natin isipin na first time itong automated eleksyun at nationwide kaagad.

Garapalan.

For me, si noy2 ang nanalo! Itong ingay ukol sa dayaan o resulta ng eleksyon is nothing more but to raise doubts..para mabawasan ng mga naniniwala sa pagbabago…di naman nila ipipilit si corona kung di sila mga takot sa posibleng gawin ni noynoy na naaayon sa batas. Hustisya ata tawag dito! hehehe

  5. henry90 henry90

    Oblak:

Malabo ang balak nila. Ang mandate ng Congress is to canvass the votes. If they think thsat Congress is the right venue for their electoral protest, then they have another think coming.

Next election they will start to scout for the cheating operators to win.

I agree with you Igan Luzvi…imagine, 3 bilyong pesos ba yong involve sa automated election na yan e talagang bastusan na talaga?

  13. henry90 henry90

    LVM:

I agree. Let the hearings in the House continue. Let also the joint Congress proceed with the canvassing. What we are saying here is the investigation of ‘alleged’ poll irregularities should be investigated by those agencies concerned. Yung tatlong itlog, I don’tknow if you can call that electoral protest. All they did was call a presscon and made a sweeping generalization. Take note that Erap himself did not protest. He is just waiting for the official canvass of Congress.

We cannot it accept as gospel truth-the Comelec’s alibis.

I doubt this koala bears and the losers are just maligning the integrity of the Comelec. If you will all noticed only those from Lakas parties are the ones who cried most of this anomaly, even the opposition are not complaining when they’ve lost. Am for sure that this Koala bear is an scape-goat of Malakanyang. I think its better for Noynoy to open this video tapes of Cunanan and let the Comelec file a libel case against them, ie cunanan, ermita, defensor, barbers et al, same with the “2004 hello Garci” anomalies. Wala talagang kadala-dala itong mga GMA cohorts bec. until the last minute they all want to stop the canvassing and delay the proclamation.

  21. As every day passes, the Comelec-Smartmatic-Arroyo mafia is successful in dumping more crap into the election results while outwardly acting the opposite. The leave stupid evidence behind so it will be discovered easily. They have so far achieved to generate some level of suspicion, though presently insufficient to overturn the early results, but a properly handled black propaganda might stimulate a viral spread of total distrust once the heavier bombs are dropped.

It happened to Arroyo that way. The only way to divert the anger was to create another scandal bigger than the last one. The vicious cycle then just repeats itself. A non-stop scandal-diversion-scandal merry-go-round.

  22. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

    Tongue,

Just want to ask you a question of the meaning of “digital signatures” as required by law and disregarded by Comelec.

Is this signature the scanned signature of a BEI supervisor or Comelec guy assigned to a clustered precinct, or the signature (digital identity or barcode or whatever you call it) that the PCOS machine bear?

Wondering why the Comelec disregarded this requirement of law.

  23. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

My beef about the computerized elections is the lack of transparency or inability to check the source code for the voting systems. Smartmatic recalled all flash cards just 4 days before the elections, and that left everybody holding an empty bag. Who else can say whether the programmed instructions for counting votes is not tainted by a “hello Garci hack” (aka Harri Hursti hack). Given the time limit to reprogram the source code, it’s easier to write instructions affecting the national candidates (Pres, VP and senators) than to deal with the local ones. Right, Tongue?

And who can testify to the authenticity of the source codes but the programmers themselves, who may have collaborated with some comolect officials that have contracted fat deals with candidates who wanted to win by all means? If the deal is by the billion pesos, the temptation is great.

Under this modern system, one has to talk only with a few programmers and a few corrupt comolect officials who may not even know what automation really means.

No answer at all, bakit kaya? Am suspicious. Are they part of the PCOS scam instead of scan.

    #31 cadre2010
FG Mike Arroyo is again weaving his powerful web. He is putting at least 15 billion pesos for his Plan A-Plan B scenario. If you remember, Noynoy Aquino said before the election that if he loses the presidential election, then there is cheating involved. So FG’s think-tank thought of using a reverse scheme. They manipulated the automated election in such a way that their local candidates (Congressman, governors, etc.) would win, but also make Noynoy win. It was done in the provinces of Pangasinan, Isabela, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cebu, Iloilo, Samar, Lanao del Sur, Cagayan de Oro, some parts of Metro Manila and the ARMM. It covered around 6.3 million + votes. In the presidential tally, the votes were taken from Estrada, Villanueva, Gordon and transfered to Aquino.
This is Plan A: FG made Noynoy win. He wants to have a compromise agreement with Noynoy, which he could not do with Estrada, and it has become mathematically impossible to accomplish the plan to make Villar or Teodoro to win. Since the cheating favors Noynoy, the latter is estop from eventualities.
In all the 5 powerful groups within LP, FG has a man scheming and trying to bargain in FG’s behalf. The Plan A compromise is this: 1. A case will be filed against GMA and his family but the case will just drag for 6 years without resolution. 2. At least 4 of FG’s men will be posted on Noynoy’s cabinet, most specifically in the Justice Department.

  26. xman xman

Already, lawyer Homobono Adaza before the panel, testified that someone close to a presidential bet paid some P1 billion to rig the votes for him. He was even ready to name the person who can identify the four regional Comelec officers who were part of the vote rigging operators.

The question is: Who among the presidential bets was the major beneficiary of the electronic fraud, who moreover was LOADED WITH CASH DONATIONS IN THE BILLIONS?

    http://www.tribuneonline.org/commentary/20100526com2.html

  27. xman xman

These presidential losers are crying out loud too much. They don’t realized that inspite of all their dirty works to let their bets win, yet the will of the people decide who they selected for. For sure if the election done by manual, their bets will win by landslide same as what happened in 2004. They’re all creep-damned losers. We need a totally revamp & change in this government of Arroyos. For God sake, enough is enough. The people had spoken already. Do we think that if an admin bet won in this election, will they all have this kind of brouhaha? We knew who are actually the operators here at election time. How did GMA win in 2004, is it not because of their operators? Damned to all this admin bets media gimmickry.

For sure in the Aquino Admin, all this dirty tricks of operators will be put to jail especially for Garci & GMA.

All the offerees of the cheating ops talk of being offered, but not biting; and not reporting to the authorities about it.

That is illogical. If I were a candidate, and I knew of cheating ops, but did not participate, either because I did not have the money, or just didn’t want to, I would report it. The simple reason being, that I am not sure that my opponent will not pay up, and be declared the elected. So it is difficult to believe that they did not report it, if only out of self-preservation.

Note the offeree – Barbers. The son of the the senator implicated in the World Bank report. That is the report that says the fat slob controls DPWH projects.

Does this make clear, who is conducting the music that the koalas are dancing to?

  36. henry90 henry90

May tama ka Sax. . . hehehe. . .Simply put, Malacanang is encouraging all these baseless allegations of cheating. While Goyang is resigned to the fact that it will be Aquino who will succeed her, she is throwing the gauntlet to delay his proclamation. By law, we should have a new president already by June 30. I don’t know if most people realize that part of the process of handing over the reins to the incoming administration is the smooth transition of governance. By narrowing the period of transition, it will be very difficult for the incoming team to make an honest to goodness assessment of the true state of affairs of government. Take note na sa US e November ang presidential elections. Normally, a day after, alam na kung sino ang nanalo. The wheels of transition are immediately set in motion. Pag assume nang new POTUS by January 18 of the following year, that’s more than 2 months na yung turn-over of responsibilities nila. Therefore, alam na agad yung kailangan ng focus of attention.

  37. Sorry for the late reply, hawaiianguy. I swear, I didn’t find your comment/question the last time I visited this page.

Basically, digital signatures are generated in pairs of keys. One in the public domain and one private. 2 keys. One is the key to a virtual padlock which anybody can use to open a door. Kaya “public” key ang tawag.

The other one, the “private key” is held by the sender so that there is need to verify with this key (encrypted and private), using the first key (public) in order to confirm if the sender was the real one.

The key makes it easier to decrypt the data/message while it slows down any hacker who wants to take a peek into your data/message. Smartmatic claims that the encryption is 128-bit and is very difficult to decrypt at the time of transmission.

Very difficult, yes. But impossible, no. Any determined hacker with the right wares and tools can do it even if all he owns is a single PC and an internet connection. What they do is create a worm/virus that is spread silently before the determined time and will be activated only upon the time of need. All affected PCs (“bots”) can be remotely controlled so it will make up a botnet and at a given instance will work together as a supercomputer sharing its resources to crack, say, a password, or to decrypt an encrypted instruction or data, in this case, election results. The more bots, the faster and more powerful a hacker becomes.

Note that in last year’s hackers’ DefCon conference in Las Vegas, their leader, Jeff Moss (called the Dark Tangent in cyberworld) mentioned something about hacking our automated elections. Smartmatic claims it will take six days to hack the system but it is totally false since hackers have achieved to penetrate the SECURE servers of Washington, CIA, and other Intelligence networks worldwide in only a few hours/minutes. Even if what Smartmatic says were true, there were at least 10% which have not transmitted after six days or about 5 million votes. They now claim that the machine has its own digital signature thus the Comelec ALLOWED the removal of the BEI’s digital sigs which would have been contained in another set of flash cards.

What could go wrong? Since BEI sigs are precinct-specific, without the necessary digital sigs anyone can transmit results using the same machine since the public key in the server will definitely verify that it came from an officially designated machine, via the machine’s private key. Even without the BEI authorizing it.

What would stop a Smartmatic technician from transmitting the data to a void server and make it appear that the transmission was completed and send the new figures when the BEIs are no longer around to authorize a second transmission which could not happen had the BEI digital sigs been implemented?

Of course, Comelec will again have an explanation for it. What I’m waiting for is their explanation why Melo announced the first results at 6:30PM when the voting was extended and still ongoing until 7PM. What results were he reading when there wasn’t any data being transmitted yet? Judging from my experience in the school I was monitoring, preparations to transmit would eat around 30 more minutes after closing, then the techs can transmit, though in our case it didn’t happen because Comelec supplied thermal papers were short of the required quantity. Transmission happened in almost all our precincts after 3AM the next day.

  38. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

    Tongue,

Thanks for the expert explanation on the digital signatures. An item today at the Inquirer also said something about it, that Locsin admitted his mistake on the digital signatures as required by law. In any case, I believe it, plus your technical brief on what digital signatures are, apart from the BEI’s electronic signatures which were disregarded by Comelec, which SC has sustained.

After having learning from the Harri Hursti Hack (also the video “Hacking Democracy”) and related documents on tampering with electronic voting systems in the US, I do believe that Smartmatic is lying when it says that it is impossible to alter the electronic vote counts transmitted to the server. Sounds funny, but this kind of hack is very elementary that even a kid can do it. One does not need a high caliber programmer to produce a sophisticated hack, like what happened to the most secure computer systems of the FBI in and other US government agencies here.

One other thing that seems very possible, which you also mentioned, is that during the transmission process the data can be intercepted, right? With the right tools, one can do it in the same way that hackers can peer into people’s bank/credit card accounts due to computer systems which are not tightly encrypted.

Anyway, there are I think many loopholes that were not plugged in the first electronic voting in the Philippines. The security aspect is still very much in doubt.

Add to this the human engineering (aka Melo’s early announcement) of the results, and things become even more opaque, if not outright incredible.

The integrity of Smartmatic’s technicians is very critical here, because they can let anyone with a hacked program to use the PCOS machines – for a fabulous fee that would take them forever to spend, or even earn. If there are no safeguards on their movements and activities shortly before and after the elections, what guarantee is there to say that the electronic results are authentic?
