Amazing Grace

No. 1
No. 1
The great thing about last Monday’s election is that, Grace Poe topped the senatorial elections.

It must be ego-shattering for the three re-electionists – Loren Legarda, Chiz Escudero, and Alan Cayetano –whose desire for the number one slot is not a secret to the public.

Other pluses about Monday’s polls are the re-election of Antonio Trillanes IV and Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Trillanes because despite limited TV ads due to limited resources, he was able to make it to number nine, an improvement over his number 11 ranking in the 2007 elections.

His victory in this election proved that his 2007 win, when he was under detention, was no fluke. If the 2007 votes for him were “acts of protest” against Arroyo, last Monday’s votes were for his willingness to take on even the powerful and his strong stand on issues that he thinks work against the interest of the Filipino people.

The re-election of Pimentel is made more meaningful by the non-inclusion of Juan Miguel Zubiri, who stole from him five years of his first term.

Grace winning a slot in the Magic 12 was expected especially with her impressive surge in the last three weeks of the campaign. It was her going over Loren Legarda, who had led since the very beginning that stunned even those who voted for her. In fact , in Pulse Asia’s May 10-11 survey, although she was ranked 2-7, she was still behind Legarda, Chiz Escudero and Alan Cayetano.

Grace's not -so- secret weapon, mom Susan Roces.
Grace’s not -so- secret weapon, mom Susan Roces.
Grace said her prayer was to make her win comfortably, not the stress-filled number 11 or 12. “God must have answered my prayers,” she said in her usual down-to-earth way.

What’s admirable about Grace campaign was how she wisely used her formidable political asset – her father, the late FPJ – to project herself- unassuming, honest, competent.

Add to that the support of her mother, movie queen Susan Roces. After Susan’s TV endorsement those of the Iglesia ni Cristo and even Kris Aquino were just icing on the cake.

Grace admitted that most of the votes for her were “vindication votes” -from people who felt that what was stolen from her father in 2004 should be given to her.

In a morning ANC TV interview, social scientist Randy David remarked that FPJ must be smiling from he is now. Grace shared the joke among FPJ’s friends that by now, “tumatagay na yun.”

I’m sooo happy for Grace. Her strong #1 showing not only spells vindication for FPJ and the Filipino nation for what they were robbed of in 2004 but also signals the birth of a new political star. Admittedly, the only downside to this is that Ms Poe’s now allied with those same people who denigrated her father’s good name when they were still merrily cavorting with the diminutive usurping Malacañang bwitch.

Step aside Loren, a star is born in the Senate!

Grace proved that surveys can only do so much, hanggang prediction lang talaga, not a real gauge of people’s pulse. She also becomes a proof that this election is honest, I believe.

  3. chi chi

Grace topping the senatorial election is so refreshing, with Trillanes and Pimentel re- elected there’s a hope for an invigorated and (less) corrupt senate.

  5. chi chi

Hi Ellen, sino political strategist ni Grace?

  6. srcitizen2000 srcitizen2000

Grace emerged as the unexpected, unpredicted no. 1 coz all throughout the campaign, her infomercial especially, prominently mentioned FPJ. People have been reconditioned that FPJ is still alive and voted for him not Grace

  7. Congrats.

..yuh poe is #1…I want Her to be the president in 2016

  10. Hi Ellen, sino political strategist ni Grace?-Chi

    Sen. Serge Osmeña.

Grace said she got a lot of help from Chiz Escudero, who was her father’s spokesman during FPJ’s presidential bid.

Film director Carlitos Siguion Reyna and wife Bibeth Orteza were responsible for the political ads.

    Hi, Ellen and chi!

Katabi nila sina Teddyboy Locsin, Prof. Tayao at Rene Sarmiento bilang ANALysts

Panay sipsip nina Teddyboy at Rene. Obvious na obvious–sobrang pandering. Kadiri.

  12. LCsiao LCsiao

  13. chi chi

Thanks Ellen. Magagaling ang suporta ni Grace.

Time to ask Pidol’s question again.

Madali ang tumakbo. Paano kung manalo?

That question applies to many in office.

  15. norpil2 norpil2

i think some candidates did not deserve to win and will just waste their time and the people’s money. certainly Grace is one of those who deserved.

  16. chi chi

  17. MPRivera MPRivera

finally, a political star is born destined to serve unselfishly!

  19. MPRivera MPRivera

    bakit?

    awaiting moderation non-stop?

  20. I don’t know whether we should celebrate the “success” of this election, if at all. “Darkness” looms upon the Senate. All my local candidates lost – both in Pasay and San Pedro – to vote-buying trapos aided passively by the inutile COMELEC. I had only 2 criteria – 1. not coming from a dynasty, 2. Not buying votes.

It’s frustrating that those who made it in the local positions, at least in the two areas, were neither. What’s worse, the winning candidate in San Pedro has been convicted for graft and affirmed by the Supreme Court no less and has been perpetually disqualified from public office, yet the nincompoops in COMELEC accepted his candidacy.

But what do you know, just last Friday – the last working day before elections – Comm. Yusoph issued the nullification of his candidacy. How can you effin’ implement such an order now? Another 3 years of legal battle, between the disqualified Mayor, the losing challenger and the winning Vice? This is just stupid.

  21. chi chi

norpil, is that you? Long time no read, welcome back! 🙂

Nadamay tuloy sila Risa at Jun Magsaysay. sa Senado 1 out of 3 (4!) score ko. Si AT4 lang ang tama. Sa lokal, isang malaking bokya.

  23. norpil2 norpil2

thanks chi. i retired last year and forgot my password. i feel good to be bsck in this house.

  24. chi chi

Ang dating town mayor namin na dynastic just transfered the title to her husband, walang lumaban.

So full of grace daw. Eeew (kay Rene)!

  29. chi chi

LCsiao, I still remember pero iba na ngayon. I don’t like him before and still don’t.

What made them become so sipsip kay Grace Poe kaya?

    Nakakakilabot sila kung ‘pumuri’, gross!

I asked him to return to our old format. Na-erase kasi yun accidentally. Mukhang malaking trabaho ang gagawin.

  33. chi chi

    napakadami talagang tangang pilipino.
