I was not the only one duped by “Mon Tulfo”

My first person account last Monday on being duped by a con artist who introduces himself as “Mon Tulfo” elicited responses, two of them from fellow victims.

One was retired Marine Col. Ariel Querubin.

Remember last August, there was a news report of death threats to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, National Bureau of Investigation Nonnatus Rojas, and Atty. Levito Baligod, lawyer of whistleblowers in pork barrel scandal involving businesswoman Janet Napoles?

Querubin said a “Mon Tulfo”, who really sounded very much like tri-media personality Ramon Tulfo, called him up saying that the hired assassin to De Lima, Rojas, and Baligod contacted him and said he was backing out of the contract. “Mon Tulfo” said he and his men were bringing the person to Manila and they will have a press conference at max restaurant near the DOJ.

He asked Querubin for some help in gasoline money. He asked that the money be sent through Palawan Pawnshop. Querubin sent P5,000.

The next day, Querubin scanned the newspapers for news item on the supposedly hired killer’s press conference and didn’t find any. He texted “Mon Tulfo” about it. He never got a reply.

Anna (not her real name), who asked not to be identified, works as a communication officer of an environmental group. She said she got a text message from someone who introduced himself as “Mon Tulfo”. He was inquiring “if I was the partylist nominee of a certain dubious partylist. He said he wanted to interview me about the partylist. But I said I’m in no way connected to that group.”

That was the end of the conversation.

She said as media coordinator, she kept Tulfo’s contact details and would send him press releases about their activities. She even texted him last July if they could guest in his radio show about mercury leak in Fabella. He agreed but for some reason or another, she had to cancel her group’s guesting. She apologized and “Tulfo” told her not to worry about it.

After a few minutes, she got a text asking for donation for a medical and dental mission that he was organizing for Subic. She needed it immediately as the group was leaving. She sent P250 through Tambunting Pawnshop.

Last September, Anna said something happened that she needed help from someone with clout. Her friend’s baby was ‘hostaged’ by a hospital in Paranaque because she can’t pay their bill amounting to P1 million.

Anna connected here friend with “Tulfo”. Her friend said “Tulfo” asked for donation to his Foundation and she gave P1,500.
Anna said “Tulfo” called up her friend again asking for P10,000 to pay the van to rescue the baby. He said he will bring Health Secretary Enrique Ona and Undersecretary Eric Tayag.

They didn’t give him the P10,000 and the “rescue” operation never happened. They realized they were duped. They were able to bring out the baby later with the help of Sen. Pia Cayetano.
Let’s beware of this evil person.

Dami nang biktima ng taon na ito. Baka pwedeng i-trace ng NBI kung saan nanggagaling calls nya.

And why is “Tulfo” silent about this scams using his name and his phone Number? He is a writer and should warn the Public about the “scam”.

THis is why we need to have all sim cards registered. It is so easy to change the sim card and use another one and no one can trace where the call from. This is why these scam artists can get away with any crime they perpetrate thru cell phones. Internet scam is just as bad but at least with the internet, there is a way to trace the criminals.

snooper, I agree with that idea..as far as i remember SIM are registered from the very beggining in Canada and I believe the same in the US and with the latest phones it an even give the caller location. Time for my upgrade anyway and it is good Contract now is shortened to two years instead of 3..so a new iPhone will just cost $80 for a tow years contract, and keep the old one for the grandson for his games.

The system here is the SIM or phone number is computer installed and can choose my own..last four…if it is available.

What does Mon Tulfo have to say on all these? Did we already hear from him?

  7. Hay naku, they can’t even enforce their (NTC) order to charge cellular calls per pulse (about P0.10 per ten seconds (?) instead of P6.00 + VAT per minute) and refund the overcharged differential for years. Asa pa tayo diyan. Si Enrile sana ang vocal proponent nun e. Napatahimik na siya ni MVP.

Sa India pag bumili ka ng bagong sim, pakita mo pa passport mo. I do not know if they do that to their citizens, get their ID before they can buy. If India can do it with their billion citizens, why can’t we?

ours is a democracy exploited and over abused. so many people making rounds of protests against imposition of the national ID system which is the most effective tool against crime especially in same incidents went through by some, including ellen.

And another advantage of a registered SIM is when you lost your phone or Stolen it can immediately get disabled (the sim and the Phone) by the Provider. And the finder or thief can not install any Number at the same phone (serial number is now invalidated ) well it still can be used outside of the country or forParts..

Trillanes, nagbabasa ka ba dito? Ipasa mo naman itong bill na ito para mabawasan ang mga scammers using the cell phones.

I came across this one from Mon Tulfo’s column at PDI. I don’t like the tenor of his column that instead of empathizing with the impostor’s victims like Madam Ellen, he reacted negatively…

The impostor “Ramon Tulfo” has struck again, with columnist Ellen Tordesillas as his victim.

It seems Tordesillas has been blaming me because she and her friends were gypped of P35,000 by the impostor.

I have warned the public many times about this impostor in this column and on my radio program.

Is it my fault that Tordesillas and her friends are gullible?

    #12. mismo!

    # 15 also it will be minimized Tas Evasion as a data bank can easily be configured with a national ID system and will possible to even file On Line and that will be quicker, no more Dead Tree paperworks…in a few years our government will be doing most transaction without any hard paper anymore, including financial transactions…it already stopp mailing Tax forms (those who do not want to file on line can pick up forms at the postal outlets and most other government transactions can be done on line..I applied for my Government pensions, old age securities all on line and without to see anyone.

OT. But this is your turf Ellen, as a journalist.

An investigative team of the Office of the Ombudsman has named Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile as the mastermind of the alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam—not businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, according to official documents obtained by Inquirer.

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/531459/enrile-unseen-hand-in-pork-scam

But if you read the pdf file of the Inquirer itself, the Memo states:

    III Scope of the Investigation.

This investigation is centered on the 345,000,000.00 audited PDAF of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile.

So the conclusion that Enrile is the mastermind of the 10 billion scam is a lie. The report states that he is the unseen hand in connection with his 345 million PDAF.

That does not make him less of a porker, perhaps, but he is not the mastermind of Napoles’ entire operation, as is concluded in the article.

If this is an official document acquired through legal means, it should bear the signatures of the officers and the stamp “certified true copy.” There would no problem posting the entire document. In this case, where is the certified true copy stamp as well as the signatures of the Ombudsman and her people on this document? Why post only 8 out of 246 pages? PDI is hiding something.
