Mar-Chiz, Binay-Meloto, Cayetano-Trillanes

These are the political alliances shaping up for the 2016 presidential elections.

President Aquino’s dream team for 2016.[/caption]Interior Secretary Mar Roxas for president and Sen. Chiz Escudero for vice president for the Liberal Party; Vice President Jejomar Binay and Gawad Kalinga founder and chairman Tony Meloto for the United Nationalist Alliance; and Senators Alan Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes IV for the Nacionalista Party.

Sources said Roxas and Binay both wanted Sen. Grace Poe as running mate but the lady senator feels she is not ready yet to run for a higher position in 2016.

The Mar Roxas and Chiz Escudero ticket is the handiwork of President Aquino, several sources said.
Both Roxas and Escudero, gave up their long-harbored presidential ambitions in 2010, to give way to Aquino, whose candidacy came after the death of his mother, former President Cory Aquino, in August 2009.

Sources said Roxas is reluctant about teaming up with Escudero, who endorsed Binay for president in the 2010 elections. But he has no choice given his low popularity rating. He needs Aquino’s endorsement.

Although there are some members of the Liberal Party who do not give Roxas a good chance of winning in the 2016 elections, his supporters resort to mathematics to show otherwise.

Binay - Meloto
Binay – Meloto
A presidential candidate has to get 40 percent of the votes of the total registered voters to win the election. Administration political analysts say Aquino’s endorsement will bring in 20 percent of the total of the voters which Presidential Spokerperson Edwin Lacierda bragged, is “lethal.”

“Whoever the President will endorse, the power of the President’s endorsement is lethal. It is effective and that’s the reason why the—whoever the President would anoint, would certainly have an advantage, “ Lacierda said last January.

The source said Roxas believes, his campaign organization will be able to get the remaining 20 percent of the votes needed to win the presidency.

Sources said Escudero, who has not returned to NPC, after he left the Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr.-controlled party in 2010, has no qualms about being the running mate of Roxas even if he endorsed Binay in 2010.

It is often said that there are no permanent friends in politics. A Roxas-Escudero team will show that there are no permanent enemies either in politics.

Cayetano-Trillanes
Cayetano-Trillanes
With Sen. Jinggoy Estrada deep in the PDAF/Janet Napoles mess, Binay is in search for a running mate. He told Philippine Star’s Marichu Villanueva that he wants an economist for a running mate in 2016. Meloto fits the bill.

The intriguing thing about this Binay-Meloto team up is that it is brokered by a presidential relative.

Earlier Binay had earlier considered Darlene Marie Berberabe, the young and pretty president and chief executive officer of Pag-ibig Fund, for running mate but that team-up didn’t materialize.

Binay is confident that with his formidable national machinery, he can afford a non-politician running mate.

At the Nacionalista Party, party members think the possibility of Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. getting embroiled in the Janet Napoles pork barrel cases, won’t make him a viable standard bearer.

They are working on a Cayetano-Trillanes ticket.

“Sources said Roxas and Binay both wanted Sen. Grace Poe as running mate but the lady senator feels she is not ready yet to run for a higher position in 2016.”

High five, Sen. Grace! Gusto lang nila si Grace para manalo and then itatapon sa corner. She knows better. With her impressive background, she can easily win the presidency later with enough and significant learning and preparation.

  2. chi chi

Political affiliations won’t permit it, I know.

Ang yabang ni Binay, confident na kaagad.

Waaah, nilalaro naman sila ng mga sisterekas!

Mar, ewan ko lang coz of the Tacloban disaster. Binay, his association with the pork barrel legislators may cost him the presidency although slowly he is distancing himself from the Estradas now. Cayetano, I have not heard any corruption issues on him but the “masa” may think he is too white! Magpa tan muna siya. Punta muna siya sa beach everyday.

  5. Mannie Mannie

This is my take on the team-ups:

    1. Mar is certainly running for President. He’s the administration’s anointed one. That’s the reason why he’s placed as DILG Secretary, a very powerful department that oversees the Local Government. Please take note that Mar has been going around the country including the typhoon affected areas to help and to campaign of course. However, he’s not yet accepted by the masses despite his effort to be one of them. He was called Mr. Palengke yet never set foot in the public marker since he was a kid. A photo was taken with him riding a carabao and a farmer’s hat, but people noticed his pair of expensive shoes. And of course his wife Korina whose behavior is well known in media. She could be another Imelda.

Chiz is okay, but if he cannot convince Heart’s parents to accept him, how could he convince the people to elect him. Deal with Heart’s parents first and if the problem is resolved, he can come clean to the people.

    2. Binay of course is sure to run. He was the first one to declare this. But choosing this unknown Meloto to be his Vice could be a wrong move. In a presidential election, the Vice plays a very important role. Binay is better off picking Vilma Santos and even Erap. Yes, why not Erap. Remember he placed second to Pnoy last election. What more only the vice presidency?

    3. I admire this Cayetano for his speaking skills both in English and Tagalog. He’s like Chiz who’s articulate and sound legal background. However, I don’t think Cayetano is ripe for President. Vice President, yes. Same is true with Trillanes who may be very patriotic and clean, but not ripe yet for higher office. Maybe he could run for another term in the Senate then go for Vice Presidency next time after 2016. After all, he’s still young.

As for Bong and Jinggoy, good bye amigos !

#5. Huh, mga gods playing in their palms the ambitious politicians.

  7. Mannie Mannie

#7, Miss Chi, Politics is as dirty as these politicians. But I have hope with some of the current senators. Unless they’re also eaten by the corrupt system, I’m glad we have Grace Poe and Trillanes.

  8. joeymontalvo joeymontalvo

Tony Meloto has declared many times in the past that he (nor GK) doesn’t want to work with government. I hope he stick to this. He has earned global respect and recognition for his effective work in the private sector, and he has been rewarded a thousand-fold through his children. Why taint this black this time? Will it be worth it?

  9. snooper snooper

I thought Binay is picking Vilma instead! Parehong cute…heh, heh, heh,

Binay is creating a new party. He is dissolving na raw yung party nila kasama sila Estrada at Enrile.

  10. Mannie Mannie

Vilma is even a bit taller than Binay. Since their height is not a huge gap, Binay prefers her rather than others who are taller than him.

  11. snooper snooper

Mannie, I saw them both in person.

  12. manuelbuencamino manuelbuencamino

    1. Binay-Meloto. Gagamitin ni Binay bilang deodorant si Meloto. What if Meloto declines? Who will qualify as Binay’s deodorant? Si Vilma? Kung si Vilma mas maganda for Binay kasi bubuhos ng campaign contribution ang Philip Morris-Fortune bilang pasasalamat nila sa frustrated attempt of Sen. Ralph Recto to kill the SIN Tax.

    2. Mar-Chiz.

Compare Trillanes to Grace Poe or even to Nancy Binay, those two novices make him look like an amateur.

    4. Mar.

  13. Joe America Joe America

Fascinating. Thanks for the profiling and perspective. I think the combos being set up to oppose Binay are all “Frick and Frack”, which means no outstanding merit. I don’t think President Aquino’s endorsement will mean much when the candidates are face to face and the mud is flying. I suspect Binay can throw mud really really well, and Roxas will be on the defensive and not “show” well. Binay seems the odds on favorite to me, short of a draft Poe movement.

  14. MPRivera MPRivera

    hohummm! iiiiiiiiiihhhh! (ingat, hikab)

‘kaaga namang parallel formation ‘yan, ha. hindi man nagsisimula na silang magmartsa?

“Whoever the President will endorse, the power of the President’s endorsement is lethal. It is effective and that’s the reason why the—whoever the President would anoint, would certainly have an advantage, “ Lacierda said last January.”

    oooowww?!

jv has executive, business and legislative experience. and it cant hurt that he’s an estrada (net positive) and can speak chinese.

  17. Mannie Mannie

#12, so you’re 4’10 only? But Binay even brags about his height saying he’s 4’10…he stands 4 feet and his thing below his belt is size 10″. 🙂

  18. Mannie Mannie

    #13 What about Bong-Jinggoy or Jinggoy-Bong team?

  19. chi chi

#13, MB.

Hahaha! Binay would be committing suicide, hindi sya maglalantad ng sarili. Ayan o, distansya na si nog2 sa kanila. Korek, the nog2 just wants Meloto as deodorizer. I think mang Tony M smells this already, sana nga.

  20. Mannie Mannie

Word just came in that it could be Binay-Jinggoy team up.

  21. Mannie Mannie

And call this plain rumor but word is also being spread around that it could be Mar-Kris team up. God forbids this Kris becoming Vice President of our country !

  22. Becky Becky

If it’s Mar Roxas whom Pnoy would be endorsing, his 20 percent voters pull will be reduced to 10.

  23. Becky Becky

There are also rumors of a Binay-MVP (businessman Manny Pangilinan of PLDT. Meralco, Makati Medical, Asian Hospital, First Pacific,TV5 Businessworld, shares in Inquirer and Philippine Star, etc. etc.)

  24. Mannie Mannie

MVP prefers to be behind the scene supporting and donating. Why would he aspire for national position when he could easily control any politician with his money and influence?

  25. Mannie Mannie

As for Mar, he sure needs a strong Vice President to even have a fighting chance.

  26. chi chi

My 2-cents scenario if Mar-Chiz tandem pushed through. It will be NoyBi pa rin in the end. That is why Chiz has no qualms about teaming up with Roxas. This is also the reason why Binay is choosing unwinables coming from the private sectors. Mananalo ba si Tony Meloto o MVPangilinan sa grassroots which is the most critical area in any presidential elections. Binay does not care, as long as he wins.

Plantsado na lahat ng sisters, cousins, and kamag-anak Inc. that supported the NoyBi team last presidential election.

Naku kuya Mar, double jeopardy labas mo niyan. Gising ate Koring!

  27. chi chi

Ooppsie… BiChiz pala ang resulta, not NoyBi.

If not for the NoyBi faction that Chiz, the sisterekas and kamag-anak inc. created, Binay would not be VP.

  28. snooper snooper

Bakit di na lang Binay-Chiz. Chiz helped Binay to become the VP di ba?

  29. snooper snooper

Mannie, 5’2″ naman ako. Di 4’10”.

  30. Mannie Mannie

Thanks snooper. 5’3, 5’4, 5’5 are average height for most Filipinos. With today’s nutrition and vitamins, kids and youth are getting taller. I really thought Binay was something like 5 feet only. I wonder what Aiza and Charice’s heights are.

  31. snooper snooper

Romualdaz says, Revilla is qualified to run for the Presidency 2016. Naloko na! Well if Erap was able to run again, who says Revilla can’t.

  34. vic vic

Or is Bam underage.? Well my mistake then. Since 18 is voting age think anyone of legal age can run.

  35. Mannie Mannie

Vic, Bump Aquino is only in his 20s. At first, I was not impressed by this Ninoy look alike who tried to look like the latter. Later when I heard him talk, I think he’s very smart and much better than the veteran senators such as Lito Lapid, Bong, Jinggoy, Nancy and even Nancy Villar.

#33 Romualdez is very much identified with GMA and belongs to the same party. It would be Bong’s another stupid mistake to be on GMA and Romualdez’s side not with the pending Pork Barrel scam hanging on his little brain. Bong and Jinggoy should say good bye to presidency and vice presidency.

#34 Arvin, Marcos again? Bongbong again? Bongbong is also involved in the Pork Barrel scam. I don’t have respect for men who could be dictated and controlled by their wives if you know what I mean.

  36. vic vic

Mannie, Don’t you think it’s a waste of talent for a young man or woman not to qualify for a highest office at young age due to the age requirement for an elected office..by the time a very talented and qualified individual is of age he is already too smart for his own good to run for the office of the President. At 30 a person is Capable of running a country if the voters and his party believe in his capabilities..

Well, I’d say to each his own, but we do not have an age requirement for anyone to run..it just simply say that if one is qualified to Vote, then it is OK and the voting age is 18..last elections many teenagers and 20 something, won seats in the Parliament and they are all doing Fine..now if anyone of them is elected Leaders by their parties, then what is the problem of a 20 something years old PM?

  37. Mannie Mannie

Vic, the laws in the Phil are different from Canada. One in his 20s could run for Mayor, Congressman, Governor, Senator but not higher office like Vice President and President. To run for higher office, one must be at least 40 years old.

Young people are indeed getting smarter these days. But experience also counts a lot.

  38. Mannie Mannie

Are you going to vote for Cayetano? Pls read:

SENATOR Alan Peter Cayetano yesterday defended former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from those who have already declared her guilty of plunder and corruption.

Cayetano, on the other hand, confirmed that he is eyeing the presidency in 2016 under the Nacionalista Party or as an independent candidate if his party chooses fellow party member Sen. Bongbong Marcos.

In 2010, he accused President Benigno Aquino III of sabotaging then presidential candidate Manny Villar and went even far by insinuating that Aquino has a psychosomatic condition.

Cayetano coined the term “Tropang TOPAK” in 2010 to describe the Aquino Administration of having a plateful of “trapos, oportunistas and kamag-anaks” appointed in government.

  39. chi chi

  43. vic vic

vonjovi2 @ 46 sometimes it would be nice to switch to a strong party system of voting..here a voter has quite a few option when voting for his rep…vote for your rep base on the Party of preference, vote for your rep base on his personality. vote for the party rep base on the party leader (the party leader will become the PM)who you wanted to be the PM..or vote for party base on the Party program or its main program…for example…Trudeau Liberals and Justin Trudeau big Push is to Decriminalize Marijuana..(he is still trying to feel the Pulse) if he goes for it, will you Vote for the Liberal Candidate?

  44. Mannie Mannie

We just have too many parties or multi-party system. It’s time to return to the two party system.

  45. Mannie Mannie

MANILA – Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has finally come clean about his plans for 2016. In an interview on Mornings@ANC, Cayetano categorically said he wants to be President of the Philippines and it’s just a matter of timing.

…There you go folks. Cayetano is now another presidential candidate aside from Binay. Mar may change his mind and opt not to run. Who would then be the administration’s candidate?

  46. Mannie Mannie

I don’t even mind Duterte to be the President. What we need at this time is someone with strong political will and iron hand. The ideal team would be Lacson-Duterte.

  49. Mannie Mannie

Arvin, the whole Ilocos particularly Ilocos Norte and other Ilocano speaking citizens in other provinces will vote for Bongbong. The Ilocanos are tested Marcos loyalists. Those in Leyte including Tacloban would be for Bongbong because of Imelda and the Romualdezes. Add to this is the INC votes. The INC has always been supportive of Marcoses and vice versa.

The question is: Is this Bongbong as good and as smart as his late father? My answer is no. Beware of his wife too. She could be another Imelda.

  50. snooper snooper

Magno, Duterte for President. Heh,heh, heh…tiklop silang lahat. This guy means business. He is a lawyer too and had been in all sorts of political position so may qualification soya. Though he may be a reluctant candidate, his candidacy may gain momentum later.

  51. Ang saya-saya! Ang gulo-gulo!

Anybody but Binay!

She probably was the highest-paid mayor’s assistant ever in World history.

  53. Mannie Mannie

Ilocanos might be for Marcos but not the entire Luzon, Arvin. Luzon has Kapampangan, Bicolanos, Tagalog.

To me, Bongbong won’t win due to the Yellow Mob’s strong force. Marcos was demonized for so long that even the kids today hate him. Thanks or no thanks to the Yellow media. Vice President? Maybe Bongbong has a chance.

  54. snooper snooper

For now, di pa panahong tumakbo si Bong bong.
