Esperon offered Langkit liberty if he turns against co-accused

by Victor Reyes

CAMP Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal – Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. has offered liberty to Army Capt. Dante Langkit, one of those implicated in last year’s failed coup, in exchange for turning state witness, Langkit’s twin brother claimed yesterday.

langkits2.JPG

Interviewed at the sidelines of the ongoing court martial of the suspected coup plotters, Dante’s twin Danzel said Esperon made the offer through his executive assistant, Col. Daniel Lucero, last March 26.

“The executive assistant said that (offer) was from Gen. Esperon. In exchange for (Dante’s) release, he has to turn state witness against the group of Gen. (Danilo) Lim,” Danzel said.
Lim, erstwhile commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment; and former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda reportedly planned to lead their men to the Edsa Shrine on Feb. 24, 2006 where they would withdraw support from President Arroyo. The alleged plan was foiled when the AFP leadership detained Lim hours before the planned march to Edsa.

Danzel said he was in Esperon’s office last March 26 to follow up the Feb. 21 letter of his brother requesting permission to be allowed out of detention to campaign in Kalinga where he was planning to run for congressman.

“If he (Dante) wants to be released, he has to turn state witness,” Langkit quoted Lucero as saying.

Lucero declined to comment on Danzel’s claim.

Danzel said he told his brother about the offer but Dante rejected it. “He did not agree. He said, ‘How can I be a state witness when I’m not guilty, I’m not a rebel,’” Danzel quoted his brother as saying. Danzel said Dante instead decided to drop his plan to run for Congress.

That same day, Danzel said he himself decided to file his certificate of candidacy for the same post to pursue his brother’s vision of helping their provincemates.

  1. Has treachery or “snitching” on your comrades become Esperon’s code for the AFP?

Frankly, am not surprised. Esperon has no honour, no pride, no courage to confront the more honourable and more courageous lot of officers and men in the military.

I thought they have evidences against the accused officers as claimed by bacarro then why ‘bribe’ Capt Lankit?

Esperon has lost everything including his balls.

Hindi bagay sa kanya ang military career. He should have chosen politics instead… in the likes of his kumander-in-thief Tianak and Sabit.

  7. Querubin was shouting about the foiled plot for them to bomb the rallyists that day in February 2006. He was not talking about another tableau ala-EDSA 2. So what is this BS Esperon is offering Langkit and telling him to squeal his fellow soldier and commander about?

Point is who are the idiots who OK’d the appointment of this Esperon?

Any person directly or indirectly, gives, offer or promises anything of value to any person, for or because of testimony under oath or affirmation given or to be given by such person as a witness upon trial, hearing or other proceedings, before any court, any committee of either house or both houses of Congress,or any agency, commission, or officers authorized by laws to hear evidence or take testimony is guilty of a crime.

Being a General and the commander-in thief,Esperon should know about this law,if he has a regard for the “Rule of Law”.He is an opposite, for he implemented the “Rule by Law”
Rule of law and rule by law differentiate in meaning.

Katatanggap ko lang nito thru email. Although off topic, I hope Ma’m Ellen will allow me to post these items:

    1. First Gentleman Mike Arroyo underwent a “very high-risk surgery” due to aneurysm of the heart. Pagod na puso.

    2. First Gentleman Mike Arroyo underwent a successful open heart surgery at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. The public was very surprised. They didn’t know he had a heart.

    3. Alan Peter Cayetano promised a ceasefire on issues involving the First Gentleman while he’s recovering and vowed to pray for him. Cayetano cannot afford to lose someone who has been “very helpful” to his senatorial campaign.

It is important to remind Langkit that he is a good and courageous members of the Philippine Armed Forces that they are betrayed by the tyranny of Arroyo and her henchman Esperon,of which they are a victim, and he should reconsider and refuse to cooperate with the “Dos Diablos” no matter how enticing and alluring. It is also important to remind all members of the Armed Forces that they owe loyalty to the Pilipino people, of which they are part, and the national sovereignty resides in the citizen, not in the government. One of the factor that will ensure victory against the Kangaroo court of Esperon is they need to stick together and joined forces and implement defiance within their groups.

  14. sleeplessinmontreal sleeplessinmontreal

    Back to the topic.

In offering Langkit freedom if he will turn against his co-accused, Esperon has certainly sharpened his skills by following the ways of his big little boss, Mrs. Arroyo, BRIBERY. But not everybody could be swayed and salivate to such offer for self-aggrandizement thus making Capt. Dante Langkit a very principled and straightforward officer. He’s no congressman who will forget his avowed public service in exchange for a booty and monetary reward which are witnesses in the case of the rwo impeachment proceedings and the much maligned conass.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the President’s husband was able to write notes to his daughter and grandson on a sheet of computer paper.

“He already wrote a note. He said in his note to Luli ‘I love all of you,’ especially the youngest boy (grandson) Diggy,” Duque said.

But he said the handwriting was not very clear.

The health secretary said that when he touched Arroyo’s left arm and asked him if he could feel anything, the President’s husband raised both his arms (as if saying) “I’m OK.”

“And he was telling me (he made the sign of the cross and clasped his hands in prayer as his way of telling me) pray for me,” Duque said.

Offering Langkit freedom if he turn state witness won’t do him any good. Esperon is desperately cunning him because even he created a Kangaroo court to tried these officers, his fabricated cases has no flavor. He need spices to make it taste good.
The dispute in the evidence which refereed to a case must necessarily be construed, need to be corroborated by another witness complicity in the action for which the defendant is being charged. The evidence in the case is insufficient to show that the defendant committed a mutinous act. Esperon need another credible witnesses and he is enticing Langkit to turn a state witness, kasi ulol si Esperon. He is a lousy architect, he designed and constructed case without any solid foundation and it is beginning to collapse.

  23. Bribery is a crime. In fact, it is what they can probably charge Erap with, not plunder for I don’t think Erap has squandered any public funds during his tenure of office. He should be charged with it together with Chavit Singson, who has admitted that he offered and gave Erap money so he would not be charged with illegal gambling. If Erap has to be punished for what he did, Singson should be given much harsher punishment for being the main culprit in this bribery case that actually we know now to be part and parcel of the plan to bring Erap down plotted by the Fatso and his wife, the bogus president.

  24. Emilio_OFW Emilio_OFW

If the husband of this bogus president is not a public figure, as the administration laptog claim he is not, during the height of Senate investigation of his supposedly “German bank account”, then why the big hype of media exposure on his “bypass operation” and continous recovery monitoring?

  25. artsee artsee

We are in a democratic space or we are in a cyber democratic space. Right after the dilirious days of martial in the 70s, the political pluralism was implemented for the sake of democracy.

Remember blogging is only an opinion, it is the voice of everybody, it is the right of all to share. We have to be thankful at least in cyber space we are able to voice out our opinion freely.

Hindi ko lubos maisip kung paano lulubog ang bayan if we are merely praticing our freedom to speak legally, it is very democratic.

Lucero is Esperon’s closest aide. His classmate, Col Ano, is the ISG chief. Capt Lankit is detained at isg. They held Lankit in solitary detention for almost a year. They were not able to break him. Bribery is their last and desperate move. It failed.

Esperon has totally lost his mind. His chair is breaking. His end is near.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE FILIPINO PEOPLE

    My countrymen,

We have been branded the most corrupt nation in Asia, a tag of shame we all decry — and it is time we take stock of ourselves, not to deny or blame others — but to face this grave challenge and stem the crisis that continues to plague the nation, saps our moral values and distorts our determination to build the future.

Nations, just like men, face the varied challenges. Sometimes they face glory, other times, shame. In the Philippines, we faced glory when we fought and won freedom against Spain before the turn of the 20th century; we also reaped just pride after the people’s revolution at EDSA I in 1986 even foreigners across the globe acclaimed the nation for what we did. A bartender in the US addressed a group of OFWs and said “drinks on the house of everyone — for what the Filipino did at EDSA!” Sadly, today, we receive no praise for glory. Instead, we face shame — for corruption. Filipinos are shabbily treated abroad, eyed with suspicion, mocked behind their backs, denigrated. A Filipino was asked his nationality at one airport, and he responded shamefully, “Japanese.” This is deplorable.

The Filipino is, by nature, not corrupt. We only have to turn back the pages of history and see anew the images of Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio as they met for the first time to discuss the formation of a new movement, the La Liga Filipina. Rizal having sacrificed the meager sums sent to him from home to publish Noli Me Tangere, and Andres Bonifacio struggling as a bodegero in the wake of the founding of the Katipunan. Both were men of integrity, both with visions for an emerging nation. They and the generation that lived and died with them spawned the first democracy in Asia.

After the Philippine-American war, we changed course to regain independence from the fields of battle to the political arena.

The ravages of war and the brutal occupation under Japanese forces distorted Filipino values for a time, even as they brought forth the many unsung heroes across the land. We rose from the ruins and proudly learned the legacy of a brave woman like Josefa Llanes Escoda, founder of the Philippine Girl Scouts, who stood by her husband. Both she and her husband were tortured and slain by the Kempetai in Fort Santiago.

In 1946, we regained independence. Corruption reared its ugly head but men like Ceasar Climaco, Arsenio H. Lacson and Benigno S. Aquino fought the good fight. In 1972, we went through the rigors of martial rule and for the first year or two, some said that authoritarian rule could have been the right response to corruption. It obviously was not. In the wake of the 1986 EDSA revolution, we stood proud across the world.

Yet, today, the challenge of corruption has grown bigger, uglier; but the larger it grows, the more we must prepare for bigger and better responses. Chief Justice Reynaldo Puno has already made a significant start. Under his stewardship, the Supreme Court has dismissed an erring Court of Appeals justice, has heard the pleas of election lawyers concerning injustices in protest cases, and has prohibited spouses of justices from appointments to Court offices. His move may spout just a ripple in a huge national lake — but the ripple can turn into an eddy and the eddy, into a strong whirpool of change. We commend the Chief Justice. However, commendation alone does not seem adequate.

We must fight corruption. In the homes, in schools, in churches, in government itself. Let’s start with ourselves, in dealing with friends, neighbors, associates. According to an eminent statesman, “Example is the fastest model, the quickest guide, the best teacher — from fathers to children, from professor to students, from generals to privates.”

Let us now begin to battle corruption. If there is a BIR official who tries to extort money — let us denounce him. Where government personnel at the airport ask for a cash in exchange of services, let us condemn them. When there is a wrong, let us speak out and assert what is right. For if we pursue what is right, we tap, not only the native honesty of the Filipino but also leave a legacy to our sons and daughters. Let us start NOW to restore pride and honor and dignity to the Filipino. He deserves no less. Our children and the nation’s posterity deserve no less.

    Mabuhay ang Filipino!

    Sincerely,

    Tito Guingona

    Negatibong Pag-iisip?

Ok darling let us avoid negative thinking from now on let us think positively and move on, here we go: (but don’t puke!)

    – Think positively, there was no massive poll cheating, she was the dully elected president.

    – Think positively, nobody called Garci, “cellular phones” are mere myth futuristic communication gadget, hope someday somebody will invent them.

    – Think positively, Filipino farmers are culturing their Lord’s land whilst living in luxury no need for a fertilizer fund. The fund is still available for loot.

    – Think positively, we are enjoying the bliss of economy, more and more OAW (overseas American workers), OKW (overseas Korean workers), OJW (overseas Japanese workers), OSW (overseas Saudis workers) in bulk influx to the Philippines to work.

    – Think positively, yesterday we have conquered the tallest peak, the smokey mountain.

    – Think positively, “payless noodles” is the most expensive steak in the universe only the rich can afford.

Don’t wake up darling keep the economy moving.

    – Think positively, walang kurakot, walang garci, walang scam, walang weteng, no corruption, no pidals, the paradise is not the most corrupt in asia, the paradise has surpassed japan. That’s positive.

Ang sinasabi kong positive ay bakit sa kabila ng napakalalang kurakutan sa atin nagawa pang umangat ng pilipinas from THIRD COUNTRY to (Newly Industrialized Country) under the governance of your pandakekok.

  40. Graft and corruption is not inherited. They are developed as the greedy become greedier and the crooks become more crooked!!! 😛

‘Yan ang negative thinking- accepting that corruption can never be minimized and even blaming the Filipino genes for it. Losing hope that, one day, the Philippines can be better not because the rich are getting richer but because the poor are getting smarter- smart enough to know when their leaders are fooling around at the expense of the national coffers: This is the height of pessimism.

Don’t be misled by the headlines. I was there during the hearing. I have been following the hearings of the Magdalo case. The plea bargain was for the lesser crime of “conduct prejudicial to public order.” That’s all they admit being guilty of. In exhange for that four charges of mutiny and others were dropped. I know a number of those officers. They never regretted what they did on July 27 2003.

    *****

    Schumey,

Death comes when we least expect it. You are in fact being kind when you say that you want the Fatso to recover and get his due punishment while still on earth, for the punishment in hell is something that we cannot actually imagine.

I cannot in fact imagine the usual discription of hell as “a lake of fire and brimstone,” (Rev. 19:20) or “a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt. 13:50)

Frankly, I would rather leave the decision to God although I’d be a hypocrite if I say that I don’t wish he would give up the ghost now! At least, that would free the earth (Philippines to be exact) of one evil soul!

One thing that he can do in fact if he is able to get out of the hospital to show that he is worth going one degree higher than hell is to drop all his silly libel suits against those people who have prime responsibility to expose anomalous activities of people like him.

Next, will be to voluntarily surrender to the authorities for proper prosecution for violations he and his wife committed against the laws of the land, and return all their loots, etc.

I guess these things he should do are fair enough payments for his crimes against the people of the Republic of the Philippines.

  51. Tribune’s Ninez C. Olivares wrote, “And all these roles being played by Esperon today have been proved and can hardly be disproved, as his words and actions, which are recorded, have shown that he had overturned the preliminary investigation report which called for the dismissal of the charges against the accused group but that he still insisted on having the group charged before the military court which he himself had constituted; that the military court takes all orders from Esperon and goes on with the court martial proceedings despite there being no strong evidence against the group presented and despite the fact that the PTI findings recommending the dismissal of the case have been totally ignored.”

This is a very disturbing observation. Filipinos should start worrying about this and have this idiot kicked out of the AFP before the Philippines turn into something like Darfur, etc. in Africa or the SLORC in Burma. They should worry about the loss of total freedom that would and could be enjoyed only artificially by being subservients to these crooks trying now to lord it over the Filipinos.

It’s probably now time for another “Cry of Balintawak”!

Kailan nangyari iyon?

  55. TT:

Newly-industrialized country daw? Ang Pilipinas? Ng ano?

Sa totoo lang ang naming industry ng Pilipinas under this Gloria Pimp is “mass production of Filipinos” because there is actually nothing to produce with funds being stashed in some foreign banks or used as bribes for their fellow crooks in the government like the fertilizer funds that need to be investigated and the culprits punished. Mga farmers nga nagugutom na e.

Yes, gumagawa ng tao, tapos ibebenta sa ibang bansa as domestic helpers and/or prostitutes, who have been tagged by the Tiyanak’s puppies as “the Philippines’ No. 1 Export.

Another industry now is the selling of Filipino organs as the kidneys of the residents of Baseco, where they have deployed even a battalion of AFP medics to check on the health of those who have not donated their kidneys yet.

I actually was asked to translate into Japanese some interviews with those donors coming mainly from Baseco. The interviews were in fact used for some documentary on these donors in connection with this anomaly on foreign kidney donors considered illegal and unlawful in Japan.

  56. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Rich-poor gap widened under Arroyo – Ibon

The gap between the country’s richest families and the poorest households has widened under the Arroyo administration, Ibon Foundation said in statement on Thursday.

“The richest 20 percent of the population account for 53 percent of the income pie while the bottom 20 percent get only 4.63 percent,” Ibon said.

DESPITE the Arroyo adminis-tration’s claims of an economic takeoff, the April 3-5 survey of Pulse Asia showed that 54 percent of Filipinos believe that their quality of life is worse off now than in 2004.

The figure is higher than the 49 percent in January 2007. Only 11 percent said their quality of life is better now while 35 percent said it stayed the same.

    According to Hutchinson (2007):

    “Newly-industrialized country –

Country formerly classified as less developed, but which is becoming rapidly industrialized. The first wave of countries to be identified as newly industrializing included Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. These countries underwent rapid industrial growth in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting significant financial investment, and are now associated with high-technology industries. More recently, Thailand, China, and Malaysia have been classified as newly industrializing countries.”

    —–

    According to Asian Development Bank:

    “Newly Industrialized Economies:

The trade-oriented economies of Hong Kong, China; Republic of Korea; Singapore; and Taipei,China—the NIEs (Newly-Industrialized Economies)— are suffering disproportionately from the current weakness in the world economy just as they were the big gainers from the 1999-2000 ICT boom.”

    —–

    ADB Again:

The DMCs (Developing Member Countries) are classified in the three groups are listed below:

Group A: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, Cook Islands, India, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Maldives, Republic of Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Viet Nam, and Western Samoa.

Group B: Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Republic of Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, and Thailand.

Group C: Fiji, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taipei, China

…Access to ADF (assistance development fund) resources will be available to all Group A countries (except People’s Republic of China and India) and to three Group B countries, namely, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Philippines.”

Note: China and India have always been considered “peculiar” (they belong to Group A) economies because of their population size. Even if they equal the economy of the US, technically, they cannot be considered “developed” automatically.
