Who’s afraid of Adel Tamano?

Adel writes about Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in the Manila Times.

adel.JPGThe Senate grapevine says that immediately after Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano got the very important Blue Ribbon committee, Senate majority floor leader Francis Pangilinan approached Senate President Manny Villar and made known his intention to block the appointment of Adel Tamano as general counsel of the committee. Pangilinan’s message was dutifully relayed by Villar to Cayetano, who acceded to Pangilinan’s wish.

Another version was that Pangilinan approached Cayetano and told the latter straightforward: “Alan, I want to inform you that if you appoint Adel as general counsel, I will exercise my right to oppose his appointment.”

Tamano, as many of those who followed last mid-term election’s campaign know, was the spokesman of the Genuine Opposition whose good looks and intelligent statements lent credibility to the opposition’s campaign much to the dismay of Gloria Arroyo’s Team Unity propagandists.

I texted Pangilinan for confirmation of his stand against Tamano and his reply was, “Let’s just wait for the decision of the chair on the matter. As ex-officio member of the Blue Ribbon committee, I will make my position known at the appropriate time.”

I texted him back: “But I understand you have already made known your desire to block Tamano’s appointment. Did this have something to do with incidents during the recent election campaign?

Pangilinan replied, “Will limit my comment to previous text for now.”

I talked with Cayetano and he disclosed that Pangilinan just inquired whether Adel would be appointed general counsel. He said he informed the more senior senator that nothing definite has yet been reached with Adel.

He said if Adel can’t be general counsel of the Blue Ribbon committee, they will discuss other areas where the Harvard graduate lawyer, who has been appointed president of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, could help him. He said, “Probably he can help in the education committee (which I also chair).”

I talked with Adel and he said he has informed Alan that if his becoming general counsel for the graft-busting Blue Ribbon committee would add more pressures on him, he would rather stay out of the Senate for now.

It should be recalled that Tamano was courted by both the administration and opposition parties to be part of their senatorial ticket. Malacañang offered him P50 million outright contribution to his campaign plus a condominium. He was also not to worry about TV ads, transport and hotel accommodations in provincial sorties. Adel turned down the generous offer much to the disappointment of his mother, who is close to Gloria Arroyo.

I remember a comic TV scene in ABC-CBN’s TV Patrol then. Lakas chieftain Jose de Venecia was announcing the administration’s senatorial lineup including Tamano while the personable lawyer was announcing that he had accepted the offer of the opposition to be its campaign spokesman.

A source said Pangilinan was merely delivering Malacañang’s message to Villar on Tamano. Arroyo’s advisers are thinking that it’s bad enough that the Blue Ribbon committee went to their “enemy”. They foresee more problems if Cayetano is in partnership with a popular, principled general counsel.

Malacañang sees Tamano as an opposition senatorial bet in 2010 and they do not want to give him a platform for his future political plans.

Malacañang found a perfect hatchet man for Tamano in the person of Mr. Noted who has an axe to grind with the GO spokesman. Days before the opposition proclamation rally at Plaza Miranda, GO leaders issued an ultimatum to Pangilinan, whom they adopted as guest candidate, to decide whether he would join the GO rally or be dropped from the slate. Pangilinan opted to be “independent” and GO settled with 11 candidates.

Sources said Pangilinan takes it against Tamano that he is seen as an opportunist.

He is mistaken. Even without Tamano, the public knows that he owes his electoral victory largely to his megastar wife. He will always be remembered as an accomplice to Gloria Arroyo’s stealing of the presidency when he relegated to “Noted”, “Noted”, evidences of Gloria Arroyo’s cheating in the 2004 elections.

It’s easy to see why he is afraid of Adel Tamano.

The post was timely if only to unmask this Kiko Pangilinan or shall we say he has long been unmasked. I picked the above paragraph to emphasize how Kiko climbed up the political ladder to where he is now. He’s even eyeing the 2010 higher office position either as President or Vice. Kiko started as councilor in Quezon City. He ran for Congress in his district but failed. With ambition of becoming a Senator, he married Megastar in what was called the Wedding of the Year. With Megastar’s popularity and endorsement, Kiko was elected as Senator. His polical career started to fall when he refused to allow the opening to the boxes during the Congress canvassing. He was with another idiot, Raul Gonzalez. Everytime the opposition raised an issue or made a request, he simply said “noted”.
Came reelection time, he played smart by pretending to be independent even though we all know he’s always been with the administration. For some surprising turn of events, he was adopted by the GO Team. Yet, he insisted he was independent and even campaigned on his own…of course with his wife Megastar. Megastar was reported to have refused to join the GO campaign saying she didn’t want the team to benefit from her popularity. It was only Kiko’s votes that she was after. Magastar could have sung some nice songs to President Estrada for him to agree adopting Kiko. Kiko was also endorsed by INC. Erdy Manalo’s daughter Beth is reported to be very close to Sharon. Sharon was even Beth’s bridesmaid when the latter got married. With Estrada and Manalo’s blessings add to this was the fact that Kiko was Malacanang’s baby, he was re-elected. Now that he has been re-elected, slowly we see his actions favoring Malacanang.
What can we do? Yes, we can do something. In 2010, let’s dump this Kiko and then spit on his face. By then, even his Megastar wife won’t be of help.

  2. Ano ngayon?

  3. Schumey, ano yan? Sharon has denied that already.

  4. martina martina

By 2010, the megastar would probably be the ‘bituing walang ningning’ by that time, so it will spell the end of Mr Noted Cuneta. I have not stopped wondering why this guy was still voted by the filipino people despite his ‘noted-noted’ stance in the 2004 election canvasssing. Their wednesday club is an unholy group of opportunists, that is all there is to it.

  5. chi chi

Talaga naman a!

  6. chi chi

    Tama, Ellen. Hinding-hindi iyan malilimutan.

Hindi kailangang si Adel Tamano ay pagbintangan niya “that he is seen as an opportunist”.

Nakupow! Showbiz na ang tinitira ko ngayon, a!

isa yata sa theme song ng govt yung song na “what matter most” eh….what matter most is for them to stay together for their interests not to reunite the filipino people but to reunite their personal interests para pahirapan pa ang mga nakakaraming filipino na walang makain…sana si Kiko isipin niya sa kada subo niya may nakatingin na batang paslit na nagugutom….may pamilyang watak-watak dahil kailangan isakripisyo ng bawat magulang ang malayo sa mga mahal sa buhay para maghanap ng pagkain para sa mga anak nila..alipin ng ibang kultura habang ang naiwan niyang pamilya ay alipin pa rin ng baluktot na pamamalakad ng pamahalaan..

Ellen, Schumey was right about Sharon. What do we expect Sharon to say, true? Of course she denies it just like this woman in the Palace called the “Denial Queen”. Let me share this with everyone: Not that I’ve some connection with the movie industry but I have some reliable sources. Sharon the Megastar is among the celebrities the movie reporters called hypocrite or “plastic”. She tries to smile in front of audience and camera. She acts as if she’s the nice cute girl. But they say she’s very different at home or off camera. Kiko is called “Boy Kornik” of the Senate. He was given that name when he once served corns to his guests on his birthday. I know a lot more about the couple but this is all for now.

  12. rose rose

Goji: “she tries to smile in front of audience and camera.”
Kasi I would like to “didikit” that song to her husband, Kiko, we will not forget you and we have noted and will continue watching and noting you and what you will do in congress..kaumpisa pa lang ninyo.. We will be vigilant and we will take note..that’s no threat but a promise.

Mabuti na lang tinangihan niya ang alok ni Cayetano to work in the senate. With Sen. Trillanes (sana payagan na siya) and Adel
hindi na maka pag trabjo si “Me gal so very” at very excited lagi..baka magkadahi__..siya..heheheh! I continue praying for Sen. Trillanes…

The melodrama we are witnessing in Villar’s senate is a personal politically motivated agenda. For those among us who know our political history, this view of politicians as ambitious power-seekers might even seem a venerable Filipino culture started when American’s granted us Independence. Now, the upcoming 2010 presidential election matters and voters have wrestled with the question of how the character of individual politicians matters; however, voters rational choice theory is more important, Voters begins with the assumption that all politicians pursue their own individual self-interest, usually understood in terms of ambition to hold power.Politicians need to do is to win and hold power in a political system.

A politician’s personal qualities can matter, but these effects are of limited interest in part because they tend to be idiosyncratic and cannot be reliably predicted. From this perspective, institutions such as electoral rules that define incentives for holding power are thought to be what matter most; individual politicians are sufficiently similar in their character and motivations that their personal qualities are of limited interest for understanding and explaining political life. There will be no choice who is a lesser evil, all politicians are mold the same.
In Pangilism theory,he believed in doing good to friends and harm to enemies. He insisted that every man who aspired to the position of statesman should prepare himself for his calling. Pangilism collapsed without Sharon re-enforcement, unlike Rectum dictum E-Vat is powerful than Vilmanians E-Vat contributed to his condemnation. On the other hand Pangilism is a complete failure, His ignorance and insincerity, cause him to attacked Tamano,it will be his Karma and he need to learn from experience, that if people are push against the wall, regrouping is an essential strategies,it may have been precisely what was needed to awaken that noble ego from his passive tendencies. Remember, Pangilism minus Sharon is nothing!

Ano ba goji! Si Lino po is the younger bro of Senators Allan and Pia Cayetano. He’s a young director, former boyfriend of Bianca Gonzales (a TV Host-actress; I dunno if she’s related to Raul “sa Baul” Gonzales), and now the beau of Sharon Cuneta’s eldest daughter, KC Concepcion.

Ayan ha, naglecture pa ako about mga buzz sa Philippine tinseltown.

So Mr. Noted blocked the supposed appointment of Adel as general counsel of the BRC. I really don’t like Mr. Noted, but it is within his right to exercise whatever pleases him. The ball is in Alan’s court, and he should also do what he is supposed to do. It has been known that he offered the position to Adel, and by withdrawing it due to the whining of Mr. Noted is not a good move. He should have stand his ground and fight for it whatever it takes just to prove that there is gold in his words and that he is his own man. Now I doubt if he is strong enough to stand and resist pressures that will come with the BRC chair.

The Muslims loved FPJ so much. How could FPJ have lost in Mindanao in 2004 that’s predominantly a Muslim territory? If we follow the story that the Muslims would shoot the movie screen if FPJ was being abused and killed, what would they do to Gloria Arroyo if they see her there? Ever wonder now why Arroyo never visits Mindanao? If Arroyo truly believes she won in Mindanao, I dare her to travel to that place NOW.

The squabbling over the Senate committees and boiling coup to outs Senate President Villar is not new. It’s always been that way. The way of the politician.

For these people, election is just a means to legitimize their hold for power. For most of them view their post as power. A power synonymous to authority, wealth and fame. And their greed for power corrupts them.

There is nothing new in to our politics. These ambitious, greedy and corrupt people are in complete control of the Filipino people because we allow them to rule upon us.

So why don’t we instead do more concrete action to render these corrupt politician irrelevant and empower the people which is the real essence of democracy?

What shall we do then? Then let’s start it by discussing what shall the Filipino do.

    rose;
Manuel Roxas was not assassinated, he suffered a heart attack on April 14, 1948.at Clark Air Force Base in Pampanga. He died on American soil.
In December 1931 Roxas, together with Senate president pro tempore Sergio Osmeña, left for the United States to secure the Hare-Hawes-Cutting Act from the U.S. Congress, which would grant Philippine independence after a transition period of 10 years. This bill was rejected by the opposition forces led by Manuel Quezon. In 1934 Roxas was elected to the constitutional convention. In 1938 he was appointed secretary of finance by Commonwealth president Quezon and then became his trusted adviser. In 1941 Roxas ran for the Senate and won
On Dec. 8, 1941, at the outbreak of the war, Roxas served as lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE). He refused to join Quezon in fleeing to the United States because he wanted to preserve the morale of the Filipino soldiers fighting in Bataan and Corregidor. He was captured in 1942 by the Japanese forces in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, and was forced to serve in the puppet government of José Laurel. Roxas accepted the position of chairman of the Economic Planning Board in Laurel’s wartime Cabinet. During the Japanese retreat he allegedly escaped from the Japanese high command in Baguio on April 15, 1945.He collaborated with the pro-Japanese administration during World War II but was defended in postwar trials by Gen.Mc Arthur. He became president of the Philippines when independence was achieved (1946). Roxas obtained rehabilitation funds from the U.S. but was forced to allow the U.S. to maintain military bases and make other major concessions. His government was marred by corruption and police brutality, setting the stage for the Hukbalahap rebellion.
Roxas became the last president of the Commonwealth and the first president of the Republic of the Philippines when it was inaugurated on July 4, 1946.Although, I was not yet born that time, I know my Philippine Government and History very well, Magellan discovered the Philippines in March 16,1521. But Kiko Noted doesnt have to make his position official because now because the issue of Tamano’s appointment will not be brought up anymore by Cayetano– dahil “na-veto” na Kiko ang appointment ni Tamano kay Villar.

  47. Senator Pangilinan sent me this message this morning:

While I respect your views expressed in your column today, I disagree on some points raised.

1)I was never a party to electoral fraud in 2004 and when I found out about Hello Garci, I did not hesitate to call for the resignation of GMA.

    2) I think my being wooed by the opposition in ’07 and my victory despite being an independent shows that the Mr Noted has been set aside as a non issue. If it were truly an issue, why was the opposition open to having me in their lineup.

I believe it was because I had shown a consistency in taking stands in opposition to GMA from ’05 to ’07.

My refusal to join the admin ticket despite the offer of P150 million is proof of this.

    3) My victory, I believe, was a combination of both a solid track record and support of my wife, my family. Without the solid track record I don’t think victory would have been possible.

Why, because other showbiz candidates didn’t make it.

I hope I have clarified some matters.

Lalaki sa lalaki, bakit hindi niya kausapin ng harapan and tell it to Adel’s face?! Duwag!

Cocoy..thanks a lot for the clarification. I find it ironical though that while he refused to go with Quezon to a US soil he died in Clark Field which is considered a US soil. kaya pala walang part si Roxas sa Malinta tunnel’s..lights and sounds. Sundalo pala siya..kaya may malaskit..Pero itong tungaw wala siyang paki sa mga sundalo-the latest news was more soldiers are killed..Where was she all this time? At least si Bush and C. Rice kahit ba sabihin ay arte lang..nagpunta sa battle field to give morale support to the men..makakapunta kaya si Gloria sa Mindanao? At nakakatulog pa siya? At pangiti ngiti pa siya with that Vietnmese rep who will be investing in the Phil. Manhid talaga..bakal..

I failed to connect right away Lino Cayetano and KC Concepcion in this Blue Ribbon issue.”

Exactly, my point is that no one in the Senate can better influence Alan Cayetano to forego Adel’s nomination. Not NP partymate Villar because beyond Alan’s appointment, he cannot do anything much, he is held hostage. Not Ate Pia, too. She’s a fencesitter alright but blood is always thicker than water. The only logical choice, therefore, is Kiko, who by affinity through stepdaughter KC is connected to the Cayetanos since Alan’s bro and KC are sweethearts. He is the hatchet man alright and no denial would make me believe him.

KC, I’m told, is not comfortable with Kiko around the house. That’s why she chose to study in the States and Europe. She’s an independent soul and having her stepdad messing with prospective in-laws will surely not sit well with her.

Anyways, was just testing Goji back there when he said he knows the Cunetas. Heheh.

  59. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Adel would have been a perfect choice to work for the Blue Ribbon.

Imagine, a top notch charismatic lawyer working for the prosecution of the Pidals, Pinedas, Bolantes and the like, built around airtight cases that Harvardians reputedly are trained for? We should have seen how Malacañang pushed all the panic buttons to take him out from there!

Looking back, had Tamano accepted to become a GO candidate, Kiko would not have even made it. Many Erap followers believed that spot was for Kiko. It’s high time Muslims had a senator represent them on the Senate. Ah well, there’s 2010 to look forward to. I hope.

  60. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

It sounds right, backdoor channeling via showbiz connection. Kikay Cuneta-Pangilinan cannot say no to Sharon or else alsa balutan na.

  61. chi chi

Hahahaaha! Sobrang malaman a!

  62. goji goji

Tongue, I pretended not to know Lino and KC. It was you guys whom I was testing. Of course I know them. I know Sharon’s late father, the longest serving mayor of Pasay. The Cunetas were Marcos loyalists. Sharon’s mom is the sister of Helen Gamboa, former Senator Tito Sotto’s wife. I even know Tito’s background. He had a combo group while young called “Tilt Down Men”. He and Helen eloped. Tito used to be a not so good guy. Back then, combo groups had a not so good reputation. They were similar to gangs. Lots of rumbles and fighting during parties. Tito changed for the better after their marriage.

Alan and Adel had something like the situation in the late 50’s when Robert F. Kennedy served as general counsel of the Mc Clellan Commission or Select Committee on Improper Activities. They investigated racketeering like the case of labor organizer Jimmy Hoffa. (later, when JFK became president, he got Robert as his attorney general)

But the problem i see in Philippine setting is the egos of the senators who would comprise the Blue Ribbon committee. Alan has no 2010 political ambitions, so he can allow Adel to set the lead in the committee. But how about the senator-members? Siyempre pataasan ng ihi yan.

  64. During the last election campaign, we have heard and read about Malacañang offering huge sums of money for high survey-raters to join the administration’s team Unity ticket. All those claims were made by “sources.”

Now it’s on the record from Senator Pangilinan:

My refusal to join the admin ticket despite the offer of P150 million is proof of this.

Just imagine the incentives given to Joker Arroyo, Ralph Recto and others.

  65. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Ah, so your referring to Lino Brocka was simply nonsense? Sorry, but I thought you were writing sense. And you’re pretending not to know. What else are you now pretending?

FYI, Kalbo was my Ninong and I visited him a few times in Dasma. The last time we were there a few months before he died, Sharon has installed an elevator just to make it easy for the old man to travel from the first to the second floor. They were my Ninongs and Ninangs – Kalbo and Elaine, Peewee Trinidad, Dr. Co, Rosie Bernabe, etc. In fact, we could have done a roll call of City Hall and they were all there in my reception, heheh.

As for Tito Sotto, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you I jammed and recorded with him and VST, too, would you?

I know you know a lot about the Cunetas and showbiz; but I kinda find your comment about me with a double meaning. I should not have said I pretended not to know, but just admit it as a joke. The last portion of my post was even deleted by Ellen and I do understand why she did it. Let’s keep moving…what else is new?

BTW this 150M was OUR money the People’s Money paid through their hard earned taxes that Schizoglo is handing out to these clowns who are already living the high life.

  84. Chabeli Chabeli

Ms. Ellen, you said that “It just ocurred to me now that both Adel and Kiko are Harvard graduates.”

Unless I’m mistaken, from what I understood, Kiko took courses lang in Harvard, he didn’t exactly graduate like Adel did.

  85. goji goji

Maybe you’re correct, Chabeli. One can claim to have graduated from this and that but only took a few subjects. Gloria Arroyo was also guilty of this. What I know about Kiko is that he’s a lousy lawyer. Has he handled any important case? I only got to know this guy when he represented a certain cop De Los Reyes in that Kuratong case years ago. Kiko was then a human rights lawyer.

  86. Best way to do is check with the Alumni Association of Harvard if Kiko graduated from it or not.

Over in Japan, Chabeli, one who lies about his credential can actually be removed from office as in the case of an elected parliamentarian who was found out to have lied on his education background. He said that he graduated from a university in California. Some prying media checked and found out that he did not even attend the said university. Napahiya ang party niya, and he was asked to step down. He was likewise charged in court for breach of trust and given a severe punishment.

Another was prevented from running for office when she claimed that she went to Columbia University. The husband, who was a baseball coach, was likewise forced to resign. The wannabe candidate was fined and given a suspended jail term. Dapat ganyan sa Pilipinas. Ang kaso, breach of public trust. Don’t they have such kind of ruling in the Philippines?

  87. goji goji

How many value the reputation that the Japanese possess? It is this kind of value that makes Japan what it is now today. But I posed one query in another thread about the rising child abuse cases in Japan. I came across a news item about that.

  88. goji goji

On Tamano, the latest I got is that Alan is still considering to get Tamano despite objection from Kiko. It could be popular public demand which compelled Alan not to give up on Tamano. And so unless it’s final, let’s just wait for further development.

  89. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Well, his objection is noted. Kiko Cuneta Pangilinan cannot dictate want he wants in the Blue Ribbon Committee. Sen. Alan Cayetano can choose his legal staff for best interest of the Filipino people not the thieves in Malacanang.
Trillanes?

  90. luzviminda luzviminda

Oh, Yeah. After the “Noted” performance in the counting of COCs, now he claimed he’s clean and straight as an arrow. Naghugas kamay at nagmalinis pa. Anyway, for his acts, he will always be remembered not only as Mr. Noted Cuneta but will go down in the dust bin of history as one of the “signatory” of the cheating and illegal presidency of Gloria. And if ever he aspires for a higher office, no doubt, it will going to haunt him. He should not be so cocky of his win last election and he should thank Ms. Susan Roces because she did not make it a priority to campaign against him, because if she did, what could have happened then. Just take a look at where Chiz landed on her endorsement.
