Bakit yung ibang AFP ad PNP chief, cabinet position katulad ni Environmen Secretary Angelo Reyes, Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza at Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane.

Maganda gawin siyang ambassador to North Korea. Doon kay Kim Jong Il.

Nobody watches channel 4.It doesn’t figure as far as winning the hearts and minds of the people is concerned. Obviously, Senga is being dumped.

Probably just so she can make good her promise of giving him a post-retirement job, he is being given this insignificant job. Kung sabagay, we don’t know kung may pagkakikitaan dyan.

Might as well call it the era of military bastardization of the Philippines or Rape of the Philippines by ex military men. Talk about the pimp who unleashed ex military men to rape her country – it is obscene, to say the least.

Hello Garci tape bared it all, and it’s all about cheating the elections, but in spite of all those conversations caught on tape, The Glue and the generals mentioned never admitted it. Even the Mayuga report that was never made public cleared all those generals of any wrong doing. The question however that comes to mind; how come all these officers instead of being subjected to investigations being suspects in an illegal activity remained in their posts and even promoted to more higher and sensitive positions? Why is that so? The means does not justify the end. Their denials do not compliment the actions that follow. They do not run in parallel, but run across each other unraveling their lies and the obvious; the truth about the roles of these generals in the election.
The Glue was handed the presidency in a silver platter courtesy of Garci and the generals. Comparing to any other gift, this is an extraordinary gift. It is a gift of power over 80million Filipinos, power to become one of the richest person in the universe, and power to eliminate people you dislike, you hate and political foes. But of course, if somebody gave you a gift, you have to give something back in return.

And I thought the military are there ” to serve the people”?
In truth, they are there, visible to the max, becoz they are waiting fro juicy assignments after retiring from the service.

    Sambayanan ang kawawa!
    Sila-sila…kanya-kanya…
Baka bukas-makalawa, naibenta na ang Bayang Magiliw
    to the highest bidder!
    nyet!

Siyempre kapag may utang dapat bayaran.

i think it’s just proper for a retired general to head a TV station.

What, Chairman ng Channel 4?…

Alembong talaga!

Her itentions are clear as bright sunny day. Whoever protects Gloria, cheats for her, kills for her will be rewarded a great retirement plan. So Gloria follows in the footsteps of NoKor’s Kim Jung-Il, where his military personnels are considered first class in the country. What about the rest of us? We are just loose ends and be forcefully controlled by Glue’s growing military regime.

  11. kitamokitako kitamokitako

  12. Chabeli Chabeli

It seems “out of line” for Gloria to appoint Senga as Chairman of Channel 4. Just curious, who tunes in to Channel 4, anyway? Indeed, it seems that Senga does not belong to the inner circle of Gloria to get a post LOWER than Ambassador.

With the rate Gloria is appointing retired military officers as Ambassadors, I can only imagine, and sympathize, with those in the DFA who must feel insulted to be mingling with such SMUTS! But then again, Gloria DOES NOT CARE if she demoralizes a team, much less a country! GLORIA IS DIRT surrounded by SMUTS!

Hindus celebrate Deepavali, starting with traditional visit to temple —-Channel NewsAsia (Yahoo!® News Singapore)

SINGAPORE: Over a billion Hindus around the world celebrate Deepavali on Saturday.

At home, it’s a time for extended family to get together and renew their bonds.

An important aspect of Deepavali is also at this time, to get the blessings of elders.

In the morning, Hindus began the Festival of Lights with a traditional visit to the temple.

Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple at Chinatown is a favourite among locals.

It was also an opportunity for many to meet with family or long lost friends, and foreign workers were also treated like family, and came for some sweets and drinks. – CNA /dt

Record turnout at Singapore Biennale opened free to public on Deepavali —-Channel NewsAsia (Yahoo!® News Singapore)

SINGAPORE: Singaporeans know a good deal when they see one.

The 3 main ticketed exhibitions of the Singapore Biennale were free of charge to visitors on Deepavali, a public holiday, and a record number of people turned up to sample the visual arts for free.

The overwhelming response kept tour guides on their feet, showing visitors around the exhibits.

Free entries for the 3 main ticketed venues of the art extravaganza attracted close to 1500 people.

That’s a record number compared to a typical non-holiday weekend.

The largest turnout was at the National Museum – 760 visitors, triple the usual number.

City Hall came in second with more than 400 visitors, and Tanglin Camp saw 300.

A majority of visitors were made up of families, students on holiday breaks and couples on weekend dates.

There was even a group of Indian foreign workers who came early in the morning to view the exhibits.

The 3 venues will have free entries again on 24th October, during Hari Raya Puasa.

Tickets for normal days are at $5 at the entrance. The Singapore Biennale ends its run on 12th Nov. – CNA /dt

  14. Hello, friends,

Haven’t been able to access Ellen’s blog till tonight.

My comment on the appointment of Senga to the directorship of Channel 4: Gloria is preparing for conflict by using the state-owned media and running it as her personal TV station; in other words, what better way than to have your own propaganda machine run by a military officer like clockwork.

By virtue of his having been chief of staff AFP, Gloria is perhaps expecting Senga to use his military expertise to organize propaganda a la Goebbels.

    Extraordinary phenomenon, this BULLYLIT!

She’s got it both ways: reward Senga for being her lap dog and at the same time tap on his organizational skills to run her propaganda mill.

Senga, whom I used to like while he was SOCOM commanding general (because he was a good field general) has now become a lapdog general. He’s clearly sold his soul to the devil.

He and Gloria make an atrocious pair!

  15. Ellen,

The Bastusan Republic is a fitting name for what dastardly Gloria and her cohorts have done to the Republic.

  16. Yuko, talking of Gloria alembong, Benjie Defensor when he was chief of staff AFP, said the same thing of Gloria.

  17. Anna: Senga, whom I used to like while he was SOCOM commanding general (because he was a good field general) has now become a lapdog general. He’s clearly sold his soul to the devil.

    *****

This, Anna, is one reason likewise why this woman should be removed. She does not bring out the good in any one, I guess, and coupled with another crook, she must have indeed become in league with the devil that her minions would even brazenly brag that they are “legions,” the same disembodies spirits who recognized Christ and said, “What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.” to which the Saviour said, “Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.” The disembodied spirit in fact even clarified that they “were many,” the same number perhaps that have possessed the bastusan republic president so that she can be bold!

BTW, the story of this legion is in Mark 5 of the New Testament.

  18. Anna, I actually thought she was trying hard to make an impression on these men when I saw her reaction for example to Cimatu, who used to be fairly handsome compared to the Fatso, until recently. Pumapangit ang napapatabi sa demonyang ito.

you are all right in saying”bastusan na talaga” all ex military and ex pnp who are all holding portfolio in the goverment are all recomended and approve by no other than mr ermita..this is in preparation for a big scenario..almost majority of filipinos wants GMA ousted including us fellow blogers here at ellen`s..the reason for all of this appointment is to create a scenario latter like in thailand and during the time of cory.in thailand it was coup because thailander just want thakisn out, even they don`t like the military but there is the king`s backing and support later and people just embrace it.in cory`s time we have the oplan save the king but filipinos didn`t buy it..now in our time they want cha-cha,and difinitely cha-cha is unpopular to filipinos majority wise and it can never take off.mr ermita and his evil group prepared all the e.o`s,and defy every court ruling and even the senate investigation,up to know he still issues e.o`s or m.o`s protecting grafters and criminals in the goverment, and arresting without warrant as if martial law was declared last feb.they again tested the people..and they won cause it took how many month SC decided on it and they even twisted the meaning of that decission..if PI initiative lost at SC it will be oplan save the republic and GMA will be ousted and mr ermita will take over using military and pnp might to silence the people..it`s now in the drawing board and when that times come.we loss our rights, liberty and freedom.if we don`t act now we may be late in gaining our freedom in which we are fighting for..if you review our history from the begining,we never had our thru freedom..our country is run by people whos interest is only for themselves..fellow bloggers in abroad, you can feel the big diffence, people there fights for their rights, liberty and freedom,in our country we sell it to highest bidder.our country is now following the road map of myanmar..their will be no opposition in the future if we let our guards down, thats why they fear erap, binay and others.mr ermita is now on the last stage of his oplan, and he knows its now!!he feels the heat of what happen in makati..its them or us..we start to be vigilant and oust this evil people before they will clamp us all,and God forbids when that time come..it will be hard for us to have it back again..our freedom!!

  20. Ocayvalle:

Hopefully, Binay’s defiance will be purely civil defiance, not by the military even when in fact it is now more like a military junta with all these crooks in the military now in meaty positions in the government cajoling and flattering the idiot calling herself “president”! But yes, Mrivera, it is not worth suffering a stroke for this boba. Just venting out the heat, ‘ika nga!

  21. Sabi ng mga ungas, the Midget will not suffer a fate like Thaksin’s. Maybe so, because she is not going to be removed by the military but by the people themselves with or without the help of disgruntled soldiers and police. Who knows, it may not even be anybody but the Lord above. They should not be too sure nor challenge fate.

  22. BTW, Anna, I missed your input. I did not realize that you could have been hacked yourself, or just simply blocked from blogging here. I notice I cannot do likewise especially with my messages seemingly “stalked.” Pero tira lang ng tira.

  23. artsee artsee

Senga ba?

Hehe! Itong si Artsee, nakakatawa ang mga comments niya but he hits the nail on the head, big time!

  25. artsee artsee

Also, the malanding Gloria wants to use TV4 as her propaganda tools especially in the coming elections. Kung ako si Senga eh gamitin na niya yung kukote niya and serve the will of the Filipino people na dapat eh nuon pa niya ginawa.

  27. See you folks tomorrow, perhaps.

Ain’t sure that I can get through again. Ellen’s blog was inaccessible the whole day today.

Just one last thing: remember when we were all wondering who the boyfriend of the enchanted queen was? Well, someone who was visiting here told me the fellow’s identity and I almost fell off my seat. Loren use to be an ex of his as well.

  28. ocayvalle ocayvalle

GMA and FG are two of the enemies of the filipino people, like all you said she`s boba and makapal or you name it all and she had it!!but our true enemy are the ex military approved by mr ermita to be appointed in goverment portfolio, believe in me,mr ermita`s appointee are all holding sensitive positions in the goverment,be it in media, justices, nbi, department head and in diplomatic department such as ambassador and in consulate, their target is to get the goverment and run it as like myanmar once they feel that GMA is now to be ousted..we have to be vigilant..this is now the final stage of the evil group, they are now feeling the heat and wrath of the people, their plan is to take over and promise to have election when all the communist where all neutralize.every filipino who go against them will bebranded as communist.mr ermita is now positioning himself to take over..we better unite now..or tomorrow will be late..the evil minions are now starting to control everything, and once they have it we may kiss all ourself goodbye!!to our rigths, liberty and freedom.
once i wrote in this blog the target for GMA to be ousted is this last quarter, because i know of mr ermitas plan and i know it will backfire on him,,but it seem we who oppose this regime still not united for a true meaning of peoples power, and that is to go on the street and show to the world that we good filipino people will do something so evil will not triumph..the free world is watching us..and they expect to much about us,,when we started the first people power to oust a dictator, and yellow color becomes the color of the brave..

So, AFP Cheap Heneral Gener-aso Tenga got the left over, small fragment of crumb from bulilit, eh. At least, Tenga got something for lying and covering up for that little dwarf. What you good people doesn’t know are the behind the skirt or under the kimona of bogus Gloria payoffs that Tenga got, e.g. portion of recovered Marcos wealth that disappeard in the thin air as reported by Malaya. It seemed everybody had a field day, got everybody’s hands in the cookie jar like bunch of starving mice. Ooops! I think, mice is little generous, how about rats. That’s more appropriate, I suppose.

Without the henerales, bogus Gloria is nothing but a piece of insignificant, a non-existence entity. AFP Cheap Gener-aso Tenga called himself a professional soldier, ain’t such a funny joke. Tenga is a man without honor, a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear, including the others henerales that sold their dignity for the measley Pesos.

Bogus Gloria is the Commander-in-Cheat who should take the total blame for corrupting the military especially Heneral Gener-aso Tenga. At the same time, Tenga should’ve been true to his profession as a professional soldier, but the evil of money will do it all the time. And bogus Gloria is plenty to squandered, the Philippines Treasury.

  30. Off topic (as always):
I just wanted a reaction to a comment I made is in this blog, but no one has picked it up. So I went somewhere else, but my very first comment on the blog of Manuel L Q III. was censored. I might have broken some ground rule that I did not know. Can someone pinpoint to me that rules I have broken? Here was that simple comment, word for word:

This is just a copy of what I said on another blog, and maybe clarify and expand it some more. So here it is.
“Edsa 1” was a failure for all of its worth because we are back in square one with gma in power. As one comment here stated, Cory and friends just continued on with the corruption. That is a moot point as far as I am concerned. The problem is that Cory could have started fresh and try to prevent a Marcos regime from coming back to the Philippine gov’t.
Cory could have establish laws and make a crime of treason to cheat on elections and/or who kills people for political gain. She could have distributed or cut the power of the president to make checks and balances. And we could have added more laws to establish a solid foundation, so no tyrant can get into office.
Now, a revolution or a coup detat against Gloria should only come from the motivation of establishing this foundation. We should admit that we need changes in our laws and/or constitutions because Philippine politics is very young or immature. It needs more guidance. And because of this idealism, we will have no choice, but to get on our feet and join the revolution to oust gma.
Is this idea too naive? Tell me.

Has been AFP Cheap Heneral Gener-aso Tenga is just another greedy heneral that turned his back to the country that he swore to protect from the corrupt people like bogus Gloria. Yet shameless Gener-aso Tenga is no different to bogus Gloria, they both nothing but thieves, and the truth of the matter, these two doesn’t care about the country and those in poverty. Has been AFP Cheap Heneral Gener-aso Tenga would rather fight the innocent people of the Philippines and be used by bogus Gloria than fight the real criminals and terrorists like Abu Sayyaf and fake Gloria Arroyo. It’s a doggone shame that Heneral Gener-aso Tenga turned to be an ass-hole. Please pardon my french. Gener-aso Tenga as a human being doesn’t deserve my respect, and also fake Gloria. Both of these inhumane animals, Tenga and Gloria has no conscience or moral authority to be running the country.

Again, my sincere apology to Ms Ellen and to others in this blog for the harsh words. I shouldn’t say it, but how I feel about this thieves robbing and killing my country.

  32. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

    Mr. Josephs;

Truth of the matter is, we got enough laws in the book now that can be cited, if the power holder wishes to exercise them, and prosecute those law breakers, the like of bogus Gloria and others. But, how do you prosecute bogus Gloria when she owned everything that ain’t nailed in the Philippines? It’s not the rule of law or the constitution or the institution in itself are lacking or at fault nor Cory Aquino, but the determination and the honesty of the people that has the power to enforce the law.

President Cory Aquino open the door for democracy and gave us the constitution. And she should be commented for her great effort, at least.

  33. No, Joseph, your comments are OK except that they are 20 years too late.

Cory, for one, may have been the tanga taumbahay we knew when she was propelled to lead the Filipinos and was still grieving for her husband that she could not see well through her tears, and could not do anything but nod her head to all the stupid suggestions she got like when someone suggested she sold ALL Philippine assets by tagging them as sequestered Marcos loots. But I guess, she has learned her lessons.

We’ll see what happens. Right now, she is serving her purpose. She should take advantage of the adulation, etc. she still gets from foreigners impressed with the people’s power description of the removal of Marcos even when we all know that he was removed from Malacanang not by Filipinos but by Americans.

What does Cory know about establishing laws when she is not a lawyer just like the idiot now calling herself “President” who is now establishing her own laws based on her perverted sense of the rule of law, more in accordance with the prophesy about this generation of graft and corruption when evill will taken for good, bad for good, wrong for right!

Point is what do we do to really help the courageous Filipinos back in the Philippines get rid of these pests they have put in the Philippine government since 1986, many of whom in fact were trapos from way back before Marcos became president? Apparently, the sending of too many abuloys to these government from even OFWs do not help improve things at all.

Frankly, I was surprised to know the many laws supposedly drafted and passed by Sonny Jaworski when he was Senator. I know him to be no genius as a matter of fact. Over here, our laws are studied, researched for applicability, and drafted by members of our federation of bar associations and civilians who are likely to be directly affected by such laws. Ganyan sana sa Pilipinas!

Another is how sincere and true are these people volunteering to help run the government, make laws, etc. like those Japanese, for example, who helped MacArthur make laws applicable to the Japanese in rebuilding Japan from the rubbles of the war and the atomic bombs?!

NHK has done a lot of documentaries on this nation building. Filipinos can learn from their lessons. You may as well suggest that those who would volunteer to rebuild the nation after removing completely these pests and parasites to watch them. Baka makakuha sila ng leksyon.

  34. nelbar nelbar

“winning the hearts and minds of Kaangkan ng Marikina” ang isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit itinalaga si Senga sa PTV4.

Pinaghahandaan na ng grupo ni Senga ang napipintong pagbagsak ng pangkatin Macapal-Dorobo!

  35. But Josephs, I thought I saw your comment in quezon’s yesterday… you mean, it’s been deleted?

  36. cvj cvj

Josephs, i also read your comment at mlq3’s yesterday and was about to respond to it but could no longer see it when i got back. As far as i know, Manolo does not delete comments, maybe it is his anti-spam software acting up again.

As for your comment, i don’t judge EDSA 1 as a ‘failure’ for the same reasons given by Manolo. Another commenter (Carl), seems to equate the failure of EDSA with the failure of the Cory administration which is both too narrow and too broad a criteria. In any case, you will notice that even if Carl says that EDSA is a failure, he is still in favor of the status quo (with Gloria and all that). To me, this is an implicit acknowledgement of the gains the Filipino people have made since 1986 and for the need to preserve those gains. In this matter, he has a point.

When it comes to having a revolution specifically to oust GMA, i would prefer the a less violent approach if it can be helped. The main reason for kicking out Gloria is precisely to preserve the gains of EDSA. In that, we do not really have to start from scratch. Contrary to depictions of EDSA as a failure, there have been many gains in terms of restoration of democratic rights and increase in per capita GDP over the last 20 years. It would be better to build on these rather than wasting time knocking these institutions down and then rebuilding them again.

That is not to say that there isn’t another segment of the population who would want a revolution for a different set of reasons, i.e. those who have missed out on economic development. It is these people, who i think comprise the great majority with nothing to lose, who i suppose would be the ones most interested to gamble their fortunes in a revolution. To me, this part is an unknown.

  37. In a way, I agree with cvj when he says “Contrary to depictions of EDSA as a failure, there have been many gains in terms of restoration of democratic rights and increase in per capita GDP over the last 20 years.”

But in another way, I find that the Edsa 1 had created bigger and less manageable monster because it allowed for the remnants of the old regime to sharpen their claws, grow their tentacles and made it easier for politicians to return to their old bad, nasty political habits.

  38. However, like cvj, I would rather the revolution were not violent because given the values of the class system you have today in the country, it’s not the middle class and much less the upper middle class that would lose out. It’s among the ranks of the very impoverished where attrition would happen if there were a violent revolution.

The attrition wouldn’t be just in the physical sense but also in the moral sense.

Having said that, I don’t know what kind of revolution could rid the country of its downright evil few.

  39. Chabeli Chabeli

    Bonjour, Anna de Brux!
Is it true that Senga was the bf of Tingting ?

  40. Hahahah!

    Bonjour Chabeli…

Gosh, if I am not careful I might become the chismosa queen.

    Afraid, didn’t hear that one.

To be very honest, I couldn’t believe what the legislator told me about the enchanted queen’s BF. Don’t know if there’s fire to that smoke. What say you?

  41. Chabeli Chabeli

    Ocayvalle,
I like what you said, “yellow color becomes the color of the brave…” We should all start wearing YELLOW then to show our discontent!

My impression is that you are “in the know” with the issues, as you mention that “mr ermita is now positioning himself to take over..we better unite now..or tomorrow will be late..the evil minions are now starting to control everything, and once they have it we may kiss all ourself goodbye!!to our rigths, liberty and freedom.once i wrote in this blog the target for GMA to be ousted is this last quarter, because i know of mr ermitas plan and i know it will backfire on him,,but it seem we who oppose this regime still not united for a true meaning of peoples power, and that is to go on the street and show to the world that we good filipino people will do something so evil will not triumph..the free world is watching us..and they expect to much about us…”

MAYBE if the junior officers do something, I THINK AND HOPE that the people will support them–PROVIDED the power will NOT be kept with the military but given back to the people/civilians. Is that possible?

  42. Chabeli Chabeli

Pardon, Anna de Brux, hee hee hee, I didn’t mean to make chismis! It was “whispered” to me the other day. I will find out about the bf of the Enchanted Queen…will get back to you on that one!

  43. I was so upset when I got deleted. I was already suspecting of conspiracy theories, but I trust you cvj and I will stop my personal and premature boycott of Manolo’s blog. 🙂
I wasn’t really thinking of violence. What about civil disobedience or another bloodless people’s power? Whatever it is that takes away the gma regime must come from the grass roots of changing our corrupt political system, and not be motivated by greed. We cannot pass on this great opportunity, like Cory had after the Marcos era. Is that too obvious? That’s why I asked if this was naive.
But then again, there is paradox of how a good political system can be born from a corrupted one, without using any violence. We have cheating in the elections. The rich and the corrupt want the preservation of their wealth and status quo. And politicians lie.
I am not yet advocating violence, but for staters we can see hope in Prof. Francisco “Dodong” Nemenzo’s reform agenda of “Blueprint for a Viable Philippines,” and the peaceful rally we are now seeing.

  44. Anna,
I was just thinking about this “propaganda mill.” GWB is to FOX as gma is to Channel 4. But really, Channel 4 is small potatoes.

  45. On the other hand, the setting in the Philippines today resembles the pre-revolution epoch in France circa 1780s prior to the reign of terror by Robespierre and company.

There are uncanny similiarities although the events took place more than 200 years apart.

The people who ignited the French Revolution were not the sans culottes or the peasantry but the bourgeoisie and the French civil society.

The peasantry have not been known in history to ever ignite the revolution. Andres Bonifacio, perhaps was an exception. Who knows, the Philippines is perhaps different and could get rid of Gloria’s regime of Terror without shedding blood massively.

  46. Josephs,

Re: “Channel 4 is small potatoes.”

A small potatoe is what Gloria needs at this time. She can use fertilizer as in grease money so that small potatoe baloons into something of consequence.

Senga, a military man could do lots with a small potatoe if he really wants to help Gloria achieve power ad vitam eternam. Goebbels started with movie trailers and look where it got Hitler: to the uppermost echelon of Nazi power.

And more locally, look at the tiny military component of a republic with more than 85 million inhabitants – the 120 thousand or so small potatoes are capable of instilling fear in the nation’s 85 million or so people less the NPAs of course, who are in themselves some potatoes to be reckoned with.

  47. If that is not at all the plan of Gloria, eg, to use Channel 4 to the hilt as her personal propaganda station yet she chose to put Mr Senga there, then perhaps, Gloria is afraid there might be a coup d’état and by putting an ex AFP chief at the helm, she probably thinks there less risk it would fall in the hands of some future fire-breathing military officers.

Well, just a thought really because I’m reminded, again of Benjie Defensor whose first persona act or task when he during one of their kenkoy coup d’états against Cory was to reach for the TV station.

I won’t be surprised if Gloria has placed retired military officers in virtually every department of the government to act not only as her moles there but also to prevent ‘mutiny’.

  48. I just accessed the Sen. Biazon link provided by Ellen and here’s what I got:

    “Arroyo’s survival

““In the calculation of President Arroyo, the military is a major factor in her political survival,” he said.

“Former military and police officials occupying key posts in the Cabinet are Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes, Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza, Transportation Undersecretary Roberto Lastimoso and Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., among others.”

My theory doesn’t seem to be that ridiculous after all.

DOTC is the largest and the highest income generating department in the Philippines. No wonder, Gloria has 2 former military people there.

  50. Sounds like a military junta, huh? And the nerve of the Bansot to tell the Thai PM to hasten the return of democracy in Thailand. Nagsalita ang magaling! Grrrrrrrrrr! 😡

  53. cvj cvj

Josephs, in that case, we are in 100% agreement. I think the problem we have is that after every EDSA, the people let down their guard. Kulang sa follow through. After EDSA2, i remember there were people who were saying that if Arroyo does not stick to principles of good government, the people will unleash another EDSA on her. However, that was overtaken by EDSA 3 which was of course, directed at the very EDSA 2 crowd that gave that warning. After that, mukhang natakot ang EDSA 2 crowd and nothing was heard of that ever since. What’s more, since civil society people (like Dinky Soliman) were in government, i think the forces for good government were split at the expense of popular movements. In the process, a lot of former civil society people were also co-opted.

When the time comes that the Arroyo government is overthrown, i think the victors should resist the temptation to take over government themselves. The likes of Dodong Nemenzo should instead continue with their advocacies from the outside where the integrity of the movement has a better chance of being preserved.

(i used to have problems posting to mlq3’s blog as well depending on where i was. Try posting again from another workstation and see if you still have problems. Manolo once said he has so far only banned one person and that was for threatening a fellow commenter.)

  54. Chabeli Chabeli

    Hi, Anna de Brux.
I agree with Sen. Biazon, “In the calculation of President Arroyo, the military is a major factor in her political survival…” The BIGGEST THREAT to a Gloria is indeed the MILITARY. From the info I gather, who Gloria does NOT HAVE on her side are a lot of the junior officers. Let’s stay tuned on that one. Sooner than later, Gloria will “see”.

Also, my lil’ pal did not know about the ex-bf of Loren, who is the bf now of the Enchanted Queen…I think I have an idea, but would not want to devulge muna, lest I be “gossiper.” Hahaha.

Senga is as stupid as stupid can get. Like he couldn’t even pour piss out of his boots even if the instructions were written under the sole. His now famous line, “No one can hawak me!” can still be heard as sound bytes in AM stations to provide comic relief in between heated political commentaries.

His PTV position is crumbs compared to Apeng Querol’s ambassadorial assignment. This guy Querol is another misfit, another tragedy waiting to happen. How come this idiot, and who is probably the only living proof that evolution CAN go backwards, was appointed to a diplomatic position when all his past records, especially during confrontation of anti-Gloria rallyists, were never even near diplomatic? His receiving the Medal of Valor is enough insult already, now this?

Senga did not have the balls to confront the Queen during the time he wielded great power, how much more now when all it takes to cut any heroics should he decide to make a late turn-around is by shutting down the station and removing all its crystals. Gloria still has RPN-9 and IBC-13 that could provide propaganda if PTV-4 is made to show snow all day.

Lest we forget, Post Office is one gov’t office (or at least controlled by it) that has been exclusively military turf after its last civilian Postmaster General, Lito Banayo, who got the position after EDSA I as reward from Doy Laurel, was replaced by US military school alumnus Roilo Golez (technically, still military), who many a PhilPost employee would consider the best PostGen we ever had. After Golez, it was a slew of Generals and Admirals who bled the Post Office dry, one after the other, with EDSA2 “hero” ex-Gen Diomedio Villanueva leaving a $1 million debt from a high-end international swindle that almost never got media coverage. (I wonder what’s keeping Golez from investigating this scam). Note that with snail mail almost rendered obsolete by the more efficient, cheaper, and faster email, I don’t find the necessity of putting ex-military biggies in such an office that is fast nearing the sunset of its existence. I’m still privy to many of the affairs of PhilPost, and I know something is cooking within the Postal Bank that could “sweeten” the now-bland position of Postmaster General.

After EDSA 1, Cory Aquino has all the powers to overhaul and change the entire structure and machinery of the government, being the head of the revolutionary government. She has that only one chance to be the greatest president the Philippines ever, but she did not take advantage of it. I would say that she started in the wrong foot. She was full of vengeance then against her predecessor that she was not able to focus on governing the country, and instead of recruiting people from the private sector, she surrounded herself with traditional politicians who have been waiting at the wings and can’t hardly wait to take over and who have only their self-interest to care. She declared all positions, local and provincial elective officials that are known allies of her predecessor and put men who helped her as OICs, instead of reaching out and make reconciliations with them. That’s not a good starting point of governance.

That was 20 years ago and maybe it’s all water under the bridge now, but, because of what is happening now in the present setup, can’t help to compare what the glue is doing now with Cory after EDSA 1. We can say literally that both are product of EDSA revolt, the only difference is the Glue’s is plain power grab. Cory paid back all those who helped her to the presidency, and that’s exactly what the Glue is doing now. So whatever the circumstances surrounding their installation to the presidency, the bottom line is, both paid back handsomely those who helped and responsible for their ascendancy to the throne of power. Ironically, one of those she appointed as OIC of Makati was Mayor Binay, who happened to be the current “Apple of the Eye” of the Glue, Ermita and Puno and in danger of being replaced too by an OIC.
So what’s the difference between the Glue and Cory. As I see it, there’s no big difference except perhaps the rampant and massive corruption, and the prostitution of the military in the present regime.

The appointment of retired military men in civilian posts is a necessity of Gloria Arroyo’s political survival. It’s no longer repaying debt of gratitude but indirect bribery to buy military-police loyalty. Military support is the essence why bogus President Gloria Arroyo remains in power.

  63. kitamokitako kitamokitako

Florry: You said, ‘…she (cory) surrounded herself with traditional politicians who have been waiting at the wings ….’. Tamang tama iyan. Masaya ang mga tao nuong nawala na si Marcos, but bit by bit, traditional politicians in the like of JDV, and others crept in.

  64. Hi Chabeli,

Re: “I agree with Sen. Biazon, “In the calculation of President Arroyo, the military is a major factor in her political survival…””

I don’t know but upon re-reading of Sen Biazon’s comment, I think he might be “chastising” Gloria for her calculation or miscalculation that “the military is a major factor in her political survival…””

In essence, perhaps what he was trying to drive at is that Gloria is miscalculating, that in fact, she is wrong to put too great a factor on the military for her political survival. She owes a debt of gratitude to the military, that’s a given; she needs them to ensure her survival but I do not believe they are THAT MAJOR A factor for her continuing survival.

To me, it’s the current political meyhem and the support of the bulk of legislature which when put together are the major factors and the driving force for her political survival. It’s the old divide and rule factor.

Therefore, the military today is not that major a factor per se for her political survival but undenibaly, her appointment of Esperon to the chief of staff position is crucial to making a greatly submissive and highly politicized military toe her line.

The military will blow the way of the wind ultimately. It is the Filipinos who fear them and give them a much higher political value than they deserve which increase their ‘factor’ value overall.

  65. Sorry for bringing up the Marcos-Cory era in this thread, but some of us are already here, so I’ll ask one more question. When did the Philippine Peso tanked? Was it during the Marcos era or after? Was it any of the Gov’t’s fault, or was it just the economy stupid? just wondering …

  66. Chabeli Chabeli

    Hi, Anna de Brux,
After much thought, I agree with you that “It is the Filipinos who fear” the military “and give them a much higher political value than they deserve which increase their ‘factor’ value overall.” That’s true. Thanks for a great analysis.

Josephs, here’s the nominal peso:dollar exchange rate from 1960 to 2001 (tail-end of Carlos P. Garcia to early part of Gloria Arroyo Presidency)

    1960 – 2.02, 1961 – 2.02, 1962 – 3.73, 1963 – 3.91, 1964 – 3.91, 1965 – 3.91, 1966 – 3.90, 1967 – 3.92, 1968 – 3.93, 1969 – 3.93, 1970 – 6.02, 1971 – 6.43, 1972 – 6.67, 1973 – 6.76, 1974 – 6.79, 1975 – 7.25, 1976 – 7.44 , 1977 – 7.40, 1978 – 7.37, 1979 – 7.38, 1980 – 7.51, 1981 – 7.90, 1982 – 8.54, 1983 – 11.11, 1984 – 16.70, 1985 – 18.61, 1986 – 20.39, 1987 – 20.57, 1988 – 21.10, 1989 – 21.74, 1990 – 24.31, 1991 – 27.48, 1992 – 25.51, 1993 – 27.24, 1994 – 26.33, 1995 – 25.77, 1996 – 26.25, 1997 – 29.42, 1998 – 40.84, 1999 – 39.14, 2000 – 44.24, 2001 – 51.05

    1960 to 1994 rates – Source: Exchange Rate Movements in the Philippines Caesar B. Cororaton, February 1997;
    1995 to 2001 rates – Source: Exchange Rate Policy in Philippine Development Romeo M. Bautista, August 2002;

According to “A Study on Philippine Exchange Rate Policies* by Joseph Y. Lim, “Significant devaluations occurred in 1962, 1970, 1983, and 1984; and more moderate ones in 1975, 1982, 1985, 1986, and 1990.”

As can also be seen there was significant depreciation as reflected in 1998 due to the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997. Also, up to the early 90’s prior to full peso convertibility, there was a gap between the official exchange rate and the black market rate (set by the so-called ‘Binondo Central Bank’).

I can’t comment on the other depreciations, but the ones that occurred during 1983 and 1984 was due to Marcos’ foreign debt and the loss of confidence after Ninoy’s assassination. These are the ones that were accompanied by economic contraction (as measured by GDP). It has taken twenty years to recover from this catastrophe.

  68. cvj,

that’s one fantastic reference material you posted up there.

must say, I thoroughly appreciated that because I could now ask my hubby to evaluate our assets in the Philippines based on the peso to dollar fluctuation matrix you supplied.

    thanks hugely.

  69. Hello Chabeli,

It really is just a personal opinion and perhaps you could ask people in Manila for their own thoughts and let us know about them.

    Thanks for the thumbs up.

  70. cvj,
Thanks for the info, that I should have done myself, but I’ll give you a little tid bit.
All I no is US’s $8Trillion debt, but if you include in the commitment of pensions and medicare for the baby boomers its going to baloon up to $50+Trillion DEFICIT. That is one of the biggest buncruptcy ever. Final tip for me is buy gold. LOL

anna, josephs, you’re welcome. those figures reflect nominal exchange rates. there’s still some additional conversion that needs to be done for it to more faithfully reflect the real change in the peso’s purchasing power over time. however, i suppose these can be used as a rough guide.

  73. In 1973, I bought a piece of land at Alabang that I was told would be part of the Ayala-Alabang complex. I paid a little less than 2M yen for it when the exchange rate was 260 yen per dollar. It was more or less 8 pesos/$ in the blackmarket when I bought my property. Now the exchange rate is fluctuating between 111 yen to 120 yen per dollar, and my piece of land now costs a million or more according to a friend of mine.

Japan is not going down the 110 yen/dollar mark these past two or three years because of the bad effect it will do to Japanese exports if the yen rate is lowered. My husband prefers a higher change as a matter of fact.

  74. Yuko,

In pesos, I bet your Alabang property is worth MILLIONS but when you re-convert that, it would have to go through the prevailing exchange rate and that’s where it might hurt.

I bought a condo unit in front of wack-wack when the dollar was 26 pesos but today, I doubt I would get the real value of what I paid for it because value of real estate (condo units) has depreciated instead of appreciated. There are simply no real buyers. The country’s troubles are not conducive for people to think of seriously buying or investing in the country unless they want to live there permanently.

Overall, I find that had I invested that little money of mine in a European city, I would not only be getting the standard ROI but also, would have enjoyed the surge in real estate prices here the last couple of years.

What I’m pretty certain of is had I invested even in a small Paris flat, the same amount I put in that condo unit in Pinas, I should now be making 7 and up to 10% PA on rent alone added to the sure and continuing appreciation value of the property.

Paris real estate is incredibly good value today, it is not expensive compared to London but is steady growing in value: a 20sq meter studio bang in the center of Paris is sold at 120 to 150,000 euros today and that studio can be let for 650 to 900 Euros monthly (depending on where it is in the center of Paris) – the smaller the flat, the easier to rent out because not all can afford to pay rent of 3 to 4,000 euros for a 100sq meter flat… the same flat in London is twice the cost with no let up on potential takers. Brussels real estate is not yet there but it is fast catching up…

A Pinoy expat investing in the Philippines is good if he/she has millions and millions of dollars or euros TO SPARE… those who have only enough or who don’t have that kind of money “to play with” should count the Philippines out of his/her investment plans.
