Original sin confirmed anew

Sideswept by Atong Ang’s high-powered arrival last Friday was the testimony of the owner of the printing press that printed some of the official election returns that the ERs inside the ballot boxes in Congress are fake.

Robert Payongayong, manager of Ernest Printing, made the explosive revelation at the hearing of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal of the election protest of Loren Legarda, vice presidential candidate of the opposition Koalisyon ng Nagkaisang Pilipino against the proclaimed winner, Noli de Castro of the administration’s Koalisyon ng Karapatan at Karanasan sa Kinabukasan.

Payongayong said the ERs being kept under guard in Congress are “fake” but those submitted by the Commission on Elections and the National Movement for Free Elections were “genuine”.

Ernest Printing was one of the printing firms authorized by Comelec to print official election return forms.

In the face of such damning testimony, all that Romulo Macalintal, lawyer of De Castro, could say was “Kung may gumawa, siguradong hindi kami ‘yun. (If anybody did that, for sure it’s not us.”)

Legarda said Payongayong’s testimony supported her claim of tampering of election results in the 2004 elections to favor administration candidates, Gloria Arroyo and De Castro.

Payongayong’s testimony corroborates the signed affidavit of Arsenio B. Rasalan, a confessed election operator, released last July narrating his participation in the manufacturing of fake ERs showing a win by Arroyo to replace the genuine ones inside the ballot boxes in the or Batasan building in Quezon City.

Rasalan’s affidavit confirmed earlier reports about a post-election operation mounted by Arroyo’s people to cover up the mismatched ERs and Certificates of Canvass, where Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano, with the help of some military officials, did the tampering of election results of the votes in some provinces in Southern Mindanao in favor of Arroyo.

Arroyo probably thought that her proclamation as winner while the whole nation was asleep based on tampered COCs would cover the crime she committed against the Filipino people in the 2004 election contest. She did not reckon that Fernando Poe Jr. and Loren Legarda would file an election protest which would necessitate the opening and scrutinizing of ERs inside the ballot boxes.

Rasalan said that in his first meeting with election lawyer Roque Bello sometime in July 2004, “he told me that he had been engaged by Retired General Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. upon orders of PGMA to plan and execute a grand clandestine operation designed to head off this looming crisis.”

“Atty. Bello asked that with PGMA’s knowledge and approval, he designed a plan to produce a new set of precinct ERs which would replace the existing and genuine ERs found inside the ballot boxes to make sure that the votes indicated in the new ERs for PGMA and De Castro, on the one hand, and Fernando Poe Jr. and Loren Legarda, on the other, would match, when totalled, the Provincial and City COCs which were already canvassed by Congress acting as the National Board of Canvassers, thereby ensuring that the margin of victory of said highest ranking officials as announced by Congress would remain intact,” Rasalan continued in his affidavit.

Rasalan said they he was told they would fabricate ERS that would replace those from nine provinces in Mindanao and Luzon, namely Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, Saranggani, and Isabela in Luzon.

Rasalan said in his meeting with Bello in September 2004, the latter said “he was coordinating closely with then Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano. He said the money for this special operation will be provided by PGMA. As a matter of fact, a few days thereafter, I was told by Atty. Bello that Commissioner Garcillano met with PGMA at her La Vista home to receive the money.”

Rasalan said Bello’s son, “El”, set up operations at the fourth floor of the former Milestone Hotel now Sogo Hotel at 836 Banawe Street, Quezon City. They started working middle of October 2004.

After working for almost a month, Rasalan said they delivered 10,000 fabricated ERs to the residence of Atty. Roque Bello at Cambridge Street, Brookside Hills Subdivision, Cainta, Rizal.

Rasalan said, “I know for a fact that the entire operations consisted of four compartmentalized operations groups. We made sure that the groups did not know each other. As stated, the first group was tasked to fabricate the contents of the ERs. The second group was tasked to forge the signatures of the precinct election officers as mentioned above, and manufacture fingerprint marks for the same. The thirds group was tasked to print the serial number on the fabricated ERs. And the fourth group was assigned to deliver and replace the ERs in the ballot boxes at the Batasan Complex with the new fabricated ERs our operations had produced.”

“I also knew for a fact that in accordance with the elaborate preparations and work done by Atty. Roque Bello, on instructions of Gen. Ebdane and PGMA, he succeeded with he aid of civilian and police personnel in replacing the original and authentic ERs in the ballot boxes at the Batasan Complex and putting in their place the new fabricated ERs which our special operations produced.”

Ebdane is rumored to be the chosen one to replace Avelino “Nonong” Cruz as defense chief.

The main reason Cruz resigned last week was that he sensed that as Arroyo desperately fights for political survival, he feels he could not guarantee to officers that the military would be insulated in the 2007 elections.

As Malacañang prepares for another massive election fraud next year, Payongayong’s testimony reminds us that there’s still the unresolved Original Sin of Gloria Arroyo.

Assuming that in the end GMA is found to have cheated last election and charges are filed, what happens to all the years that she illegally spent as bogus President? She could have accumulated so much money that they are more than adequate to defend her in court. That’s the problem with pending cases especially if these are long delayed. The accused is able to enjoy all the benefits she doesn’t deserve. By then, she have completed her term. Same goes with government officials who have not been confirmed or by-passed by the Committee on Appointment. They could perform their office and function even without confirmation. This is wrong. Worse, the President could always re-appoint and re-appoint them. By the time they are to be finally confirmed or rejected, these officials have already completed their jobs or are replaced. Often, they are transferred to different departments or agencies.

The Presidential Electoral Tribunal and the Comelec should ask the testimony of Senator Francis Pangilinan what course of action is done in regards to questionable election returns (ER’s) during the joint congressional board of canvassers. Most of the complaints filed by the opposition were just “NOTED”. Is “noted” means garbage? Is there any investigation conducted by Sen.” Noted“ Sharon Pangilinan? He is also part of the original sin including House Speaker Jose De Venecia, Sec. Raul Gonzalez, Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos, Garci Generals and Jose Pidal crime family. There will be a judgment day for these conspirators for stealing the true will of the Filipino people.

This time, Kiko might most probably talk and reveal all what he knew about the election returns. He has greater political ambition than to defend this Gloria. If he does, people may still forgive this husband of Sharon.

Original sin of bogus is only in the mind of the opposition and good for talking point. But, fact remain bogus Gloria couldn’t careless. Probably, bogus Gloria is laughing her but off right now eating some of her fav Galungong from Divisoria. Oooops! Galunglong is only for the poor and Gloria is no poor by any stretch of imagination, especially with all the funds overseas.

It shouldn’t be doubted, illegitimate Gloria Arroyo cheated was a well known fact, and subverted the govt of President Estrada. Also, bogus Gloria was responsible for putting President Estrada in the detention center and still pursuing the guilt of President Estrada for six years now. Those were well documented and enough evidences including tapes and public admission by bogus Gloria has been kept on file. Yet, bogus Gloria still residing in Malacanan. I believe the country is way passed of kicking her out of office through judicial process. It ain’t going to work.

No evidences or ERs fake ballots are strong enough that will make bogus Gloria leave Malacanan at her own intiative. Bogus Gloria Arroyo must be forced out of Malacanan is the only thing that will work, including bloodshed it need be. The country has gone through all the evidences and witnesses against bogus Gloria, but the country has not progress to remove bogus Gloria. And Fake Gloria just go about her business. In the mindset of bogus Gloria all are normal.

So, what if the ERs in the ballot boxes are all fake?

  5. npongco npongco

Toney, if I’m not mistaken you’re an Uncle Sam defender; a Bush and Republican fan. What can you say about the embarrassing defeat of the Republicans last election?

  6. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

How about the Congress, what are they doing to investigate this fake ERs inside the ballot boxes? I guess, I could answer my own question, of course, nothing. I think everyone are afraid of bogus Gloria’s drive-by-shooters that no one dare challenge Bogus Gloria in court. It’s quite apparent Bogus Gloria got the entire country on its heel, and fear in the mind of the people. Bogus Gloria is winning the war of intimidation, and none even come close.

Who will dare question the legitimacy of bogus Gloria in court? You don’t, if you want to live little longer.

  7. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

    Npongco:

What else can I add, it’s well known, the Republicans got their butts kicked, awfully bad. There is no embarrasment of getting defeated, it’s the way things are in politics. Win one and lose one! I’m no President Bush fan nor a defender of Uncle Sam, it’s just I belive on the country’s resolved and the great man Presidnet Bush on his determination to bringing the fight to the terrorists home turf. Regretably, you just don’t see it.

  8. npongco npongco

Hmmm…a better tone of voice this time, Toney. A better tenor after the Republicans’ defeat. Of course you got nothing to say. You lost! Don’t you recall how you vigorously defended Uncle Sam and Bush in this blog?

  9. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

    Npongco:

Where did you get this notion that I lost? What did I lost, if you care to explain to me. So, if I defended Uncle Sam and Great Man President Bush in this blog? It doesn’t mean I lost personally as your perception of the Republican defeat. If you haven’t notice, and I would like to bring it to your attention that Great Man President Bush still the President of the United States of America. Would you agree? So, how you figure that I lost? And I don’ quite understand your statement of me defending Uncle Sam to the defeat of the Republicans. Can you elaborate of how it’s my lost? Is there anything wrong about defending Great Man President Bush?

  10. Ellen,

I led the OAV movement in Japan even when I was not in fact a Philippine passport holder, because there was nobody less likely to be intimidated and harrassed by the Philippine Embassy to discourage Filipinos from enjoying and exercising their rights to vote.

We got a pretty good turnout during the registration of voters only to be discouraged by some kind of zoning with noticeable disenfranchisement of people registered as from areas noted to be anti-Bansot. The IDs issued was no encouragement as well as they were incomplete, and unreliable that made a lot many of us wary in fact of any planned automaton of the voting process amidst the popularity of such that is more for me based more upon the gullibility of Filipinos in general to propaganda that automated tallying of votes is better than manual tallying of votes that is in fact understandable with the way the COMELEC allowed cheating and manipulation of votes in the last election.

Frankly, whether election in the Philippines is conducted with the help of machines that can in fact malfunction especially when there is the intent to cheat, or do it manually, there is no guarantee that the Malacanang occupants will not do a repeat of the fiasco of the 2004 election with the help of their greedy allies in the Philippine Congress and Senate. And with all these talks about voting by cyberspace (Heaven forbid—lalong makakadaya!), Filipinos in Japan for example are not interested to participate.

I was talking to some embassy people in fact and asked about the turnout of the recently concluded registration of voters in Japan, and I was told of the dismal turnout, especially those who have been disenfranchised and would not like to go through the rigorous procedure.

Halos wala raw nag-register, and I am afraid that even those who have been accredited and received their voter’s IDs right would not vote in the 2007 election. Nevertheless, I am willing to work a sleepless 24 hour or more to be there to watch and observe the canvassing of votes as a foreign observer of a partylist and legitimate group that I have represented in the last election. It is the least I can do for the sake of the land of my birth.

I’m not trying to sound like a hero here, Ellen. It is more an expression of anger because up to now, I have never really proud of the Philippines for what these crooks have done to it. I find it artificial and really hypocritical when these people say, “I love the Philippines. It is the land of my birth,” and yet have no qualms to make it the country that a lot many Filipinos would not even care to try to improve its image overseas.

The truth is you google the name Phiippines or Filipinos, you even get to some weirdo sites recommending Filipino wome for “a hell of sexual ecstacy!” Definitely that is not the kind of image Filipinos or the Philippines I would like to be proud of and own as the land of my birth!!!

It’s sickening really. That is why it is imperative that the Great Pimp who sits at the palace be removed. I say the great pimp because it is what this bogus president has been doing since the time she grabbed power. She may have done that even before as a matter of fact as many of the people in the Philippine Congress has been doing.

Proof Ellen is the invitations the deputies of these bugaws get from promoters, most of whom even have Yakuza connections. for a night out, even perhaps a room service of these pretty young pinays they export to Japan disguised as musicians and dancers to Japan. Nakakasuka? You bet!

Now the COMELEC is greatly amenable to this voting via the Internet for the overseas voters, and I say, no way, even when majority of my fellow crusaders in the OAV movement are willing to be hoodwinked with the idea with the difficulty they encountered to encourage people to come to the poll to cast their votes, because the COMELEC would not like to grant anymore casting of votes by mail unless the post offices of the countries they are in prove reliable.

Ellen, the Japan post is one of the most reliable posts in the world today, and Japan was one of the countries chosen for the experimental voting by mail. Lamentably, nakadaya pa rin as we have proven in the last election. Mas marami ang bumoto kesa doon sa dumating na votes from voters allowed to vote by mail, and there discrepancies in the numbers of votes counted for FPJ, Roco and GMA. Hindi na pinansin iyong boto for Villanueva and Lacson as a matter of fact. The difference was between the votes supposedly cast between Bansot and a combined tally of votes for FPJ and Roco. We were told in fact of votes sent from Comelec alleging that they were votes sent by mail that was supposed to be delivered to the Philippine Embassy but mistakenly sent to COMELEC in Manila.

We did not buy that reasoning, Ellen, especialy when if that was true, the Philippine Embassy could easily file a complaint directly or through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which would surely ask for an investigation and those who had been negligent properly terminated, but they did not. We were also told that they could no longer prove our allegation because the canvasses had already been sent to the Philippines. They would not even be answerable for the uncounted votes that arrived late not because the voters failed to send them on time but because of late deliveries especially if the votes were not sent by express mail.

This, Ellen, is the pathetic story of the voting by mail in Japan. Frankly, I worked with my own group of Filipino wives and domestic helpers, and members of the El Shaddai in Japan in watching the canvassing of votes then. They watched for FPJ. We watched for the partylist that we wanted to win, and guard we did its votes. Nanalo!!!

Unless, they abolish the COMELEC and remove the cheaters operating from the palace by the murky river, Ellen, the election of 2007 will never ever be clean. It will be just another fiasco!

Or better, they just vote partylists, those that are really and truthfully put up by concerned Filipinos and nothing like the PIG. There should be something like they did in the US recently where the Americans spoke against Bush!

Time for Filipinos to speak against the Bansot and her pigs, both capitalized and otherwise. PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

Toney, this piece is especially for you:

For some reason, some eerie similarities between Gloria and Dubya have been mentioned many times in the past.

Both children of their respective county’s former presidents, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and George W. Bush also both had political careers before taking on the presidency themselves. Both stepped into power in 2001, both had controversial elections, and both have been the target of criticisms for many of their actions and decisions.

We all know as well what positions Gloria and Dubya have on the issue of terrorism. They are one in the fight against it, in spite of the strong opposition they each have gotten in their respective countries.

And during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the US-Philippine Mutual Defense Treaty in 2001, both presidents reaffirmed that relations between the two countries remain strong, “based on shared history, common values, a commitment to freedom and democracy and vigorous economic ties.” This, they no doubt reaffirmed when Bush visited the country in ‘03.

That Mrs. Arroyo is a loyal supporter of the Bush administration and, it seems, vice versa, is evident in the anti-terror and “rehabilitative” activities conducted in the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao, and the joint exercises still being conducted as a means to strengthen the military against forces of terror.

Unfortunately for them, scandals and controversies have followed the two since 2004 as well – Gloria on the question of legitimacy and corruption and Bush for the Iraq war and other domestic issues.

Both are also suffering from a rapidly dwindling popularity.

This has been very obvious from recent developments on the political front. In local shores, Gloria’s trust ratings have not been very promising, to say the least, and with the administration-supported issues having been shot down one at a time in separate but no less highly controversial events, it seems administration bets for the upcoming elections are not too confident about their advantage over the opposition, in spite of what they say to the press.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the Republicans suffered a defeat against the Democrats in the US congressional polls, reducing, as stated in this paper recently, “President George W. Bush to a lameduck Chief Executive.” This event has had Philippine opposition in throes of anticipation about their hoped for victory in the 2007 polls, clearly a sign that they, too, see the ties between the two presidents as a significant reflection of the way the winds will blow.

But how far can we really take the comparisons? Is the political situation in the Philippines really a micro version of the US or is it vastly different, as Malacañang representatives say? But more important, can we truly expect clean and honest elections next year?

This is hard to believe at this point, when many people still cannot feel all the good things that Malacañang says the Chief Executive and her administration have achieved thus far. Also, the prospect of a Charter change still remains out there, right along with all the other uncertainties facing Filipino citizens hoping to make a life for themselves in their own country, never mind the two million or so Fil-Ams who have chosen to become the “bridge between East and West” that Gloria is so proud of.

What’s also uppermost in the people’s minds, aside from wishing they had as much money as all the BS they hear from their leaders, is that as long as certain important issues against the president remain unresolved, well, Santa can choose to stay in the States where he belongs.

INQUIRER columnist Ramon Tulfo is a hard-hitting columnist to his avid readers, but a reckless, irresponsible journalist to military and police generals, government officials and and other personalities who have become topics of his exposes. These past few weeks, Tulfo gained additional notoriety for linking Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson to robbery, murder, drugs, and money laundering in his column, On Target, which appears Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. A marksman and blackbelter, Tulfo admits going up against Lacson, a former friend, had him running scared.

In an exclusive interview with JV Rufino, Getsy Selirio, and Fe Zamora of INQ7.net, Tulfo bares his friendship with “mortal enemies” Lacson and Reynaldo Berroya, the payola in the Philippine National Police, and discusses his string of libel suits, the numerous unnamed sources who have provided him information for his columns, and the other assorted perils of being Ramon Tulfo.

alerts-button-1.jpgThe husband of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Mr. Jose Miguel Arroyo, on September 8 filed 14 counts of libel against commentator Ramon Tulfo and the two sister-papers that publish his columns, a series of which suggested that Mr. Arroyo, among other things, has ties to smuggling operations in the Philippines. The daily Manila Standard Today says Mr. Arroyo “is also seeking P10 million in moral damages and P1 million in attorney’s fees” from each of the two papers — the broadsheet Philippine Daily Inquirer and the tabloid Bandera — or P22 million (around US$430,000) in all.

“original sin confirmed anew” actually means “Someone agrees to our prejudice!” Truly, you will see things you only expect (or want) to see.

An affidavit says nothing. It only amounts to something if the person who executed it, repeats it as oral testimony in a proceeding. Of course, its truthfulness is still another matter. Anybody can just say anything.

Verify naman the credibility of every “witness.”

“She did not reckon that Fernando Poe Jr. and Loren Legarda would file an election protest which would necessitate the opening and scrutinizing of ERs inside the ballot boxes.”

Ellen, I can’t believe you wrote that. Did you sincerely believe that GMA thought FPJ/Loren will not file a protest? You are underestimating an ultra-wily and mega-shrewd GMA.

Pasensya na kayong mga maka-FPJ, pero his protest died with him. You can do a lot more productive endeavors than screaming ‘PATALSIKIN NA NOW NA’ ad nauseam ad infinitum.

Para naman di masabing puro dada ng dada kayo (yung mahilig sa ‘PATALSIKIN NA NOW NA’) ba’t di kayo umuwi dito in time for the 2007 elections, and campaign for the election of pro-impeachment congressmen?

No one will heed your ‘PATALSIKIN NA NOW NA’ because it sounds like what the credibility-challenged ‘united opposition’ is saying.

Is there such a thing as “Original Sin” as mentioned in the Bible? That’s where infant baptism is taken from. But, the Bible also states that everyone pays for his own sins. A son should not pay for his parent’s sins. Anyway, I thought of deviating from the current issue to put a little variety to already so much talks about politics. “original sin” as a phrase and concept is a theological creation by one of the church fathers. Its a theological conclusion. It refers to the sin of Adam.

    Quid pro quo?

    FRONTLINE

    Ninez Cacho-Olivares

    11/13/2006

From the little information gathered through the testimony of Jocelyn “Joc-Joc” Bolante in his formal bid for political asylum, his claims appear very weak indeed, since he is claiming to be politically persecuted, not by the Gloria Arroyo government, but by the Senate, whose powers to arrest he disparages.

He claims political persecution by the Senate, naming two senators, Franklin Drilon and Ramon Magsaysay Jr., yet it is clear that even with the arrest order on contempt charges issued by the Senate, Joc-Joc was able to leave the country for the US and other countries and return to the country without being arrested at least four times.

Surely, one who is being “politically persecuted” by an entity like the Senate must be presumed to be powerful enough to get the government instruments working to get him jailed.

Yet even with the Senate requesting Immigration to put him on a watchlist, as well as a hold order list, that request was ignored. Not even Malacanang was willing to cooperate with the Senate on his case.

And worse, even as the Senate came up with its recommendation to charge Bolante with plunder of the P3 billion in fertilizer funds, the Ombudsman has been sitting on the case. As for Malacañang’s Presidential Anti-Graft Commission, it never even started any investigation on this funds scam.

How then can Joc-Joc’s testimony stand, especially in the light of the fact that by June 20, 2007, both Drilon and Magsaysay will be out of the Senate, having completed their two six-year terms and are no longer eligible to run for a Senate seat?

Joc-Joc always had the protection of Gloria, who has the police and military under her, and therefore can direct them to arrest Bolante, on the request of the Senate. She never did. Even when there was already an arrest order issued by the Senate on Joc-Joc, he freely mingled with the Rotary Club officials in Westin Plaza, and was duly protected by even the hotel managers as they barred the Senate servers from doing their job. And Bolante has the nerve to claim he is being politically persecuted?

What is obvious is that Joc-Joc does not want to face criminal charges in this country, which is why he is now trying to gain residency in the US with the status of a political asylee. And as he continues to protect Gloria, his story before the judge is all shot. It is not Gloria, the all-powerful in the country, that is persecuting him, but the Senate, which has proved itself to be so powerless since Gloria and her aides even disregard the rulings of the Supreme Court on the compulsory appearances of officials from the executive department.

The other silly story told by Joc-Joc before the immigration judge says the two senators plotted to impeach Gloria, thereby usurping the powers of the House. This is most stupid, as the facts show that the impeachment complaint against Gloria is, for one, a constitutional process of a presidential removal. For another, it is fact that it is the pro-impeachment bloc in the House that initiated the impeachment bid, not the Senate.

In any case, his story won’t hold, since it is fact that Gloria’s allies in the House killed the impeachment complaints twice in a row!

But just what does this “impeachment plot by the senators” even granting that it is true, have to do with Bolante and his claim of political persecution? The alleged “hate campaign” waged against Gloria and Joc-Joc through the exposé of the P3-billion fertilizer funds scam?

Is he then saying there was no such scam, when the Commission on Audit report points to this? Is he also saying all this is being framed on him for the two senators to impeach Gloria?

The judge must know how the Philippine branches of government work, as the system is patterned after the American system of government. The judge certainly would be aware of the fact that impeachment is a constitutional process to bring about public accountability on the official being impeached. The judge would also know that the Senate does have arrest powers on contempt charges and the judge would know that legislative inquiries are within the constitutional bounds. The American system calls for it.

It is also presumed that the immigration judge hearing the case of Bolante, must know something about the Philippine political situation, and knows too, that Gloria has usurped the powers of Congress, and goes to the extent of bribing the congressmen to kill the impeachment complaints against her, not to mention her illegitimacy brought about by her naked power grab in 2001 and her massive cheating operations in the 2004 polls.

If Joc-Joc does get political asylum on the basis of his testimony which is full of holes, a quid pro quo must be in the offing. There must be then something to what the rape victim’s mother exposed: freedom for the US servicemen in exchange for Bolante.

So, why can’t we talk politics? Because Gloria, during one speech in Pasay, where she made sure the incumbent — Peewee Trinidad — won’t sit for long because he ain’t hers, says so.

Not at this time, when almost everyone who believes to have some political savvy draws some parallelism with the Republicans’ defeat to the Democrats in the US with the coming local mid-term elections where Gloria’s allies are also expected to receive a good battering.

Not at this time, when she ain’t sure yet whether the funds she’s asking from various sources — government and private — are all in, specially after one grumpy official of the Philippine National Oil Corp. (PNOC) squealed about GMA plans to siphon off some good oil money for the 2007 campaign. Now, if that’s legal, the guy would not have quit. Not at this time, when Gloria’s Cabinet is in disarray, she isn’t even sure if there would be good names left after the Hyatt 10 have flown the coop and lately, Avenilo Cruz Jr., took off his Defense hat and flicked the burden that is Gloria, off his shoulder.

George “Dubya” Bush believed he had a strong team to face the Dems. He was cocky sure his Iraq formula was a hit, especially after 9/11, when sentiment against international terrorism was high.

But Bush has gone too far and most Americans now believe gains from Bush’s war economy could not compensate for the lost lives of young Americans and the tilting of international opinion which now places Bush alongside Bin Laden.

The result was hard to accept for Dubya’s team. First to go was Rumsfeld, but he sure would be rewarded a slot, in the World Bank perhaps, in the future. These guys have a place in keeping poor countries in the Third World.

We are Third World, but we are parallel with the events that transpire in the US, World War II and 9/11 included.

If the Americans can junk Bush, then why can’t Filipinos junk Gloria?

Erap has an answer to that. The country’s ousted leader is sure to have an unbeatable team to face Gloria’s ragtag army in the mid-term polls, and if 2004 could be used as gauge, there is very strong chance Erap’s magic would work again.

Consider the names: Aquino and Marcos, Escudero and Cayetano, Honasan and Trillanes, a mixture of the old and the new, the conservative and the daring. Yet the team is full of promise and Jojo Binay is cocksure his unified opposition would duplicate the Democrats’ gain.

Gloria has another Mike to lead her team. Mike Defensor, however, had lost his game since he agreed to become GMA’s mounthpiece. As they say in basketball, Defensor may have some spunk in defense, but if he sucks in offense there wouldn’t be points for the Malacañang team.

I also wonder where all his youthful idealism had gone. My friends say I should disdain the day I shared a prison cell with this guy during his more lucid days, but I say it is history and trapos reveal themselves, no matter what.

There are many Defensors who have become apologists for the administration, but we have learned enough and learned so much not to believe them anymore.

Bush lied about Iraq. Gloria lied many times.

And if we are not going to talk about them now, then what is there to talk about?

Can we talk about the beauty of the sea? Or perhaps about the weather?

But our seas are black and the weather isn’t good, so we might as well talk about Gloria.

Or how’s it talking about Garci?

Gloria has prepared hard to keep us off the ballots in May next year, but she failed.

Bush brought tanks and planes and young soldiers to conquer Iraq and the world. He did not realize he’s gonna lose his war at home.

Gloria has no planes, no tanks and no young soldiers, either.

All that is left in her camp would be political discards.

I definitely agree with Toney Cuevas that the only way to get rid of the demonic reign of Gloria & Co is to forced them out of office. The problem is who or what will be the igniting force. The people and the moralist patriotic soldiers should really unite and show our real force. Huwag na tayong matakot! LABAN KUNG LABAN! PATAY KUNG PATAY! BUHAY KUNG BUHAY! PARA SA BAYAN! I would like to discuss War in Iraq with you, but it would be a waste of time since you don’t know idea all the events that took place after the 9/11 and how/why the USA got into Iraq, and the 17 UN resolutions, and Saddam himself as a threat to the security of the USA, not mentioning the thousands of civilians executed and gassed by Saddam prior to USA entering Iraq. By your statement, you would rather condemn a Great Man President Bush, and let the dictatorial regime of Saddam dictate the killing of innocent people and the Americans. You would let Saddam rules Iraq and take away the rights of the women in Iraq and freedom of expression. You would let Saddam support the killing of the Israelis and bombing of Israel. You would let Saddam denied the children of Iraq without proper schooling, only because you don’t like a Great Man President Bush. You should be glad that there is such a Great Man President Bush to protect your rights of freedom.

anthony, part of freedom of the press and expression. it is ellen’s considered opinion and that should be respected in its entirety. but of course, no one should also restrain you from demolishing the soundess of her argument with better or superior idea you may have in your mind. in a free market of ideas, free discourse and exchange of ideas always enable us to reinforce our thesis or opinion. conversely, contrary superior argument can knock it down to the ground as well. either way, the public is benefited. well, the beauty of that constitutionally guaranteed freedom is that an individual is free to express his or her inner thoughts for the world to see. it gives meaning to our own existence and enhances human dignity. we may not agree with one’s idea no matter how stupid it appears to us, but we could not dismiss it either like religious zealots and bigots by restraining them from saying it without doing violence to the dignity of that person. i think it was abe lincold who said this: “i may not agree with you, but i will defend to death your right to say it.”

Toney, Bush and GMA both claimed they won fair and square. The voters knew the two cheated. The difference lies only with the people. Americans are sport and they respect the Supreme Court decision. But deep in their hearts, they know Bush doesn’t deserve to be at the Whitehouse. Another difference is when it’s time to defend and protect America, both opposing political camps unite for the sake of the institution and constitution. That’s not the case with the Filipinos. Filipinos have a different attitude whether they are the aggrieved party or not. Our courts and Supreme Court are a shame. Their decisions are not only controversial but legally unsound. These decisions often favor Malacanang. Iraq War? How many times do I have to tell you that it’s all about oil and control of the region?

Toney, how could you say that mine was a fabricated falsification and without credibility when majority of the Americans think the same way about Bush and the Iraq War? Was not the last US election dumping the Bush led Republicans not enough proof? Uncle Sam’s evil plan was obvious from the start. After taking Iraq and Afghanistan, she wants to take Iran. Control of this region gives America the unhindered use of underground pipeline to transport the oil. Yes, the US gets her oil not only from the Middle East. The truth is and this many don’t realize is that most of the oil comes from Canada. There’s a busy line of oil passage from Alberta to Alaska. And this is what the US wants to also do with the Middle East. Unfortunately for America, she’s faced with the largest competitor that buys large quantities of oil to feed her billions of people…China. So far, China has beaten the US as the most preferred client. China’s economic growth and prosperity made the US second class country now. It won’t be long China shall replace the US as the world’s Superpower.

To Diego K. Guerrero and everyone else:

This is to settle the (in)famous ‘noted’ of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan once and for all:

Contrary to the prevailing belief here, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan had NO POWER to include or exclude certificates of canvass (COCs). Besides, he is just a co-chair, the other co-chair being your favorite, then Rep. Raul Gonzalez.

Pangilinan and Gonzalez headed the joint committee that will screen which COCs to be used in canvassing.

Upon the opening of a ballot box, a COC was put out. Each member of the committee, and each lawyer of the presidential candidates is free to examine this COC, AND IS ENTITLED TO MAKE COMMENTS/OBJECTIONS. WHATEVER THE COMMENT/OBJECTION WAS, SEN. KIKO CAN ONLY SAY ‘NOTED’ BECAUSE HE CANNOT RULE ON THE COMMENT/OBJECTION.

After each committee member and each member finished saying his/her piece, THE COMMITTEE WOULD VOTE WHETHER TO INCLUDE OR EXCLUDE THE COC in the canvassing.

Since most committee members were pro-GMA, the committee vote was to include the COC.

Why only ‘noted’? Presumably, each committee member considered whatever comment/objection was said in deciding whether to include or exclude the COC concerned. Of course, eacm committee member voted along party lines. Pro-FPJ solons voted no always.

Therefore, it is wrong to blame Sen. Pangilinan for the inclusion of the COCs used in the congressional canvassing. The votes for inclusion were a committee, not an individual, decision.

Roman Catholics teach that infants should be baptized, but this baptism is incomplete. Upon reaching an age of discernment, the child has to confirm (we call it ‘kumpil’) the faith.

Anyway, baptism and confirmation are still not enough. Roman Catholics teach that a baptized and confirmed person must do more good works than bad to enter heaven; commission of a mortal sin bans entry to heaven, it must be confessed.

  59. npongco npongco

Yes and thanks Anthony. I just think infant baptism is not biblical; hence, should not be practiced. Do you know that there’s even one church/religion that has baptism by proxy or baptizing the death? That’s worse isn’t it?

Apoy, that’s cool. Just remember that we all here have one common objective: To kick out this evil woman from Malacanang!

  60. npongco npongco

Correction: “baptizing the DEAD” not death. Anyway, if an infant cannot have faith since he knows nothing, what more a dead person? How can a dead person be baptized? The problem with some religions is that many invented teachings that suit their own doctrines. Therefore, we must be careful because instead of attaining salvation we end up in destruction.

NOTED Kiko Pangilinan and Raul Gonzalez are responsible for railroading the proclamation of bogus president and vice president of the republic. There’s no settlement of Gloria Arroyo’s legitimacy until proven in impeachment trial by the Senate. I’m sure she is guilty as charge.

THE MINORITY REPORT: JOINT CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE

“TRUE REPORT” of the minority members of a joint congressional committee that canvassed the votes for presidential and vice-presidential candidates reiterated that KNP presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr.’s lead over PGMA was 511,981 votes while KNP vice presidential candidate Loren Legarda won over Kabayan Noli de Castro by 702,311 votes. There was no due process conducted to verify the authenticity of provincial election returns or certificates of canvass (CoC’s). There was massive vote shaving scheme (dagdag-bawas) in Mindanao Island. Self-confessed dagdag-bawas operative Rodolfo Galang spilled the beans involving top ranking Cabinet men and COMELEC commissioners. “Oplan Mercury” targeted least 2 million votes through dagdag-bawas (vote-shaving, vote-padding) and double registration schemes.

The report reiterated that Mrs. Arroyo’s allies in the committee, who comprise the majority, had railroaded the canvassing by “noting” all of its objections and observations on alleged fraud.
“The manner by which the majority members have conducted the canvassing work of Congress is not in accordance with the manner provided for by law as mandated by the Constitution…,” it said.
“The canvassing of votes, therefore, conducted by the joint committee is a sham canvassing and, hence, no valid, legal and constitutional proclamation of President and Vice President-elect can be predicted thereon,” the report added.

The opposition pointed out that due to the illegality and unconstitutionality of the canvassing, they would reject the final report of the joint committee.

“To do otherwise would be to acquiesce to or participate in a travesty of democracy, for such sham canvassing subject of the final report of the joint committee would result in the Filipino people and the nation being governed by people and leaders without mandate,” the report said.
The opposition also reiterated that security marks should be identified by Commission on Elections officials before the committee to determine the authenticity of the CoC. Daily Tribune

you are taking each and every word of the ‘united opposition’ as gospel truth.

it would be different if the report was made by a bipartisan committee, composed both of GMA and FPJ supporters. Kaso, your basis is a report by the minority! Its like asking a communist what does he think of capitalism.

yes, i’m seeking the truth also. but sadly, the ‘united opposition’ doesn’t have it. they’re no different from the one they wanted to boot out. get a neutral third party (without any vested interests) to speak out the same message and maybe i’ll believe it

i’m surprised that the report referred to as ‘canvassing’ the activitiy of the joint committee. WHAT THE JOINT COMMITTEE DID IS TO SCREEN WHICH COCs TO USE IN THE CONGRESSIONAL CANVASS. THE ACTUAL CANVASSING OF COCs WAS DONE BY THE LEGISLATURE ITSELF.

of course the minority always voted to exclude any COC in which FPJ was losing. the minority was outvoted always.

TO REPEAT – WHATEVER WAS ‘NOTED’ WAS, PRESUMABLY, IN MIND WHENEVER A COC WAS PUT TO A VOTE (whether to include in the canvassing or not). THE POWER OF INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION RESTS IN THE JOINT COMMITTEE AS A WHOLE.

Re your “TO REPEAT – WHATEVER WAS ‘NOTED’ WAS, PRESUMABLY, IN MIND WHENEVER A COC WAS PUT TO A VOTE (whether to include in the canvassing or not). THE POWER OF INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION RESTS IN THE JOINT COMMITTEE AS A WHOLE.”

NOTED! Wiat, double that! Nay triple NOTED! Make it NOTED four times, NOTED!

    Noted?

    Good!

This jerk doesn’t deserve even a word of my reply. It seems he’s also one of Ellen’s favorites since his corny and stupid messages are seldom deleted.

  68. npongco npongco

I was not referring to you, Apoy. It’s that jerk who doesn’t stop posting irrelevant and corny letters. The problem is some of you seem to enjoy his antics.
