The latest survey of Pulse Asia released yesterday is a slap on the face of Gloria Arroyo.
Arroyo has been bragging the past two weeks about how good the economy is, credit that to her governance. Well, the people do not feel it. In the Pulse Asia nationwide survey conducted from Oct. 15 to 27, 2005, 73 per cent of respondents said they are worse off now than last year while an even bigger percentage (87 percent) expressed the same sentiment in relation to the plight of the nation as a whole.
Those who agree with Arroyo that life is good nowadays must belong to the 10 percent who say they are well-off/wealthy. They must be her family members and friends. Most Filipinos (75 percent), on the other hand, consider themselves to be poor/very poor.
Proof that people believe their pocket and their stomach more than Arroyo’s propaganda is the level of pessimism regarding the future which increased by 9 percent, both at the personal (58 percent from 49) and national levels (74 percent from 65).
Pulse Asia noted that pessimism at the personal and national levels are at their highest since the series was started in 1999 and 2001, respectively.
Here’s another slap on Arroyo’s face. Attention: Mike Defensor. Eighty-four per cent of Filipinos wanted the truth about the “Hello Garci” tapes through impeachment trial. Majority of Filipinos (53 percent) said that the impeachment complaint filed against President Arroyo should have been discussed more fully by the House committee on justice before this was dismissed in early September 2005. Another 31 percent says that members of the House of Representatives should have allowed the complaint to reach the Senate so that the truth might have been revealed. Only 15 percent thought that the House representatives was right in immediately dismissing the impeachment complaint against the President.
This supports the reported view of Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, that there should be “proper closure” to the issue of the legitimacy of the Arroyo presidency. Or else, it will just keep coming back.
Pulse Asia said the people’s perceptions that certain issues regarding the Arroyo presidency have not been resolved satisfactorily explains perhaps why there is lack of movement in GMA’s performance and trust ratings compared to what she got last July.
Arroyo’s latest performance approval rating is 24 per cent, nearly the same as those recorded in June and July 2005 (25 percent and 19 percent, respectively), given that the survey has a plus or minus 3 percent three margin of error. Majority of the Filipinos (55 percent) distrust Arroyo, keeping her trust rating at 21 percent.
This I find puzzling and disturbing. Joseph Estrada was ousted when his approval rating was at 45 percent and trust rating was 40 per cent (December 2000).
Credible surveys after credible surveys show that majority of the Filipinos dislike Arroyo. They believe that she was not elected president. More so if one hears stories of mayors who participated in the cheating. One mayor we talked with said he participated in the massive vote buying. He was not surprised when despite GMA’s money, Fernando Poe Jr. still won. What shocked him was the post-election cheating. He said: “Pwede nang bumili ng boto, maghakot ng botante. Pero kapag nabilang na ang boto, sana tama na.” (You can buy votes, you can bus voters to polling places, but when the votes have been counted, that’s enough.)
Yet, this mayor signed the manifesto supporting Arroyo because he said that if he had not, he would not get the assistance his town needs.
That and the apathy that pervades in the country are what keeps Arroyo in Malacañang.
Gloria must be feeling the wrong pulse!
Even if GMA’s ratings on all fronts come down to zero, she might still be able to stay in office. The nameless people of the survey numbers can be honest about their feelings towards GMA. However, many elected and appointed officials of our government, who can make or break the camel’s (GMA’s) back cannot afford to be honest because of the good old “or else” of Philippine politics.
Despite their belief of the illegitimacy of GMA’s presidency, these officials will still support GMA, “or else.”
These people are like the three monkeys na nagbubulag-bulagan, nagbibingi-bingihan, tsaka nagpipipi-pipihan.
Kahit alam ni GMA na hindi na siya popular sa masa, patay-malisya siya kasi alam niyang walang “political will” ang karamihan sa kanyang mga oposisyon para tanggalin siya sa pwesto.
Lalo namang naging katawa-tawa ang oposisyon ngayon dahil sa ginagawa nilang “People’s Court” moro-moro.
Ang isa pang nakahahadlang sa maraming mga opisyal upang ipagpatuloy ang pagbatikos kay GMA, bukod sa takot na mawalan ng pork barrel, ay ang takot nilang mabisto rin ang kanilang mga kurakot at kapalpakan.
Katulad ng isang kriminal na titestigo laban sa kapwa kriminal, dapat nating bigyan ng “immunity from prosecution” ang sinumang senador, congressperson, at appointed official, upang maging successful ang pagpapa-alis kay GMA. Pero, malayong mangyari ito dahil
malamang na mawalan ng sustento ang kanilang mga outside dependents, kung meyron man.
Nasa kama ka na eh, bakit ka babalik sa sahig?

Why don’t we look at the flipside of this reality check – Gloria herself, to help understand this incongruous reality. Midway down the usurped term of Erap, Gloria made known her intentions not to seek reelection. This was a neat trick to catch the opposition off guard. One would think that the euphoria of having the presidency handed over to her on a silver platter – thanks to Davide – was enough to sate her appetite. But then nary a day henceforth was she seen in the media without the presence of uniformed men in the service. She was awarding some plaque to the military one day and honoring meritorious service of the PNP next day. To an astute observer, it is very obvious that the lady has a plan.
And a grandiose plan it was indeed. It started when she nixed the purchase of electronic ballot machines, thereby eliminating the last obstacle for her plans of a sweeping victory at the polls. The events that unfolded thence, is now history. It showed the cunning and wiles of a woman with premeditation.
One of her premeditations of utmost importance was the selection of her running mate. She knows by experience that a president can be easily toppled by a strong and opportunistic vice president, so a spineless de Castro was selected. And Gloria was laughing all the way to Malacanang – the opposition did not even know what hit them, i.e. why Gloria is still sitting on the throne.

b.)Tapos pahabol mo ang dahilan – kaagad – kung bakit sa iyong akala, malayo si “Glu” (sic) sa katotohanan: dahil, sabi mo…”laki sa layaw”, nakatira na sa Malacanang noong bata pa siya, kaya ayaw ng umalis doon at nasarapan.
Ang tanong ko naman ay ganito…kung ikaw kaya ang nagkaroon ng pagkakataon na tulad ng pagkakataon ni GMA…bata pa, nakatikim na ng “gloria”…masama bang magenjoy ka? At hangarin na “wag na sanang matapos” ang enjoyment? Sa totoo, walang plastikan. Walang hypocritohan.
Ano ang masama sa hangarin na yun? May nakikita ka bang masama doon? Yung totoo lang, huh?
Bibigyan kita ng halimbawa para mas maliwanag ang usapan natin. Kung ikaw ay nakahiga sa kama na sapat ang kutson…gugustuhin mo bang lumipat sa sahig?

c) Pangatlo, pati pagpapalaki sa kanya ng kanyang magulang sinama mo sa usapan. Mabigat na paratang ang sinasabi mo dito. Na mula sa pagkabata, nagkulang na ang mga magulang ni GMA sa pagaalaga at pagpapalaki sa kanya. ANONG KLASENG PAGBABATIKUS YAN? Kilala mo ba ang mga magulang ni GLoria?
Minasdan mo ba at pinagaralan at sinuri mo ng magaling ang bawat yugto sa buhay ni GMA at ng kanyang pamilya, sapat, para ikaw ay makapagbitiw ng ganyang pananalita? Naging “jeproks” si GMA? Alam mo ba ang “origin” ng salitang “jeproks? DRUG ADDICT….yan ang ibig sabihin ng slang na “jeproks”. Ito ba ang ibig mong sabihin? Inaacusa mo na ang presidente ng Pilipinas ay “drug addict”? Kung may pruweba ka, dapat ilabas mo…sapagkat ang “drug addiction” is a valid ground for impeachment. Dahil kung addict ka, drug dependent ka, you cannot perform your function, therefore, you cannot govern…(kaya nga nasipa si Joseph Ejercito…”alcoholic” siya…security risk yang bisyong yan. Ano may pruweba ka? Or iba ang ibig mong sabihin ng “jeproks”. Ano naman kung hindi?
d.)Pati ang palakad ng militar sinakop mo…sino sino at ilan ang “mga General (ang)binigyan niya (GMA) ng mga maraming star, at gaano ang marami”?
Hindi ko naiintindihan ang ibig mong sabihin na “mag congressmen, ganoon din”….ganoong ding papaano? Binigyan din ni GMA ng star??? Maraming star???
At pagkatapos, minumungkahi yata na “nagbribe si Glo sa mga titser niya para maging honor student siya”…yun ba ang ibig mong sabihin? “Nandaya si Glo noong nagaaral sa pamamagitan ng bribery sa mga titsers, para maka-honor siya” Yun ba ang gusto mong sabihin dito?
May “dagdag-habol” ka pa uli – “PERO HANGGANG THEORY LANG PALA, WALA PALANG IBUBUGA SA ACTUAL”.
Puede bang maghayag ka ng ilang “pa-sample” ng ibig mong sabihin dito? Ano bang “churi” ang sinasabi mong kagalingan ni GMA? Walang ibubuga sa actual na palakad ng gobyerno?
Nabasa mo na ba ang mga reports ng bansa. Nabisita mo na ba ang website ng gobyerno? Nandoon, nakalista, naka-advertise ng husto ang mga “binuga” at “bubugahin” ni GMA at ng kanyang kabinete. Dapat basahin mo at pagaralan mo. Tapos kung hindi ka sangayon sa mga “buga dito, doon at kung saan-saan” na naka “praise release” sa website ng gobyerno, at saka ka madiing umangal at bumatikos ng walang lubay. Sa totoo, Edgar, madami ng binuga si GMA sa loob ng 4 na taong mahigit na nakaupo siya sa pagka-presidente.
Kaya mo marahil hindi naaappreciate ay dahil…hindi mo nababasa or nadidinig or nakikita gaano sa media. DELIKADO YANG KATAYUANG GANYAN. Ang akala mo alam mo. Ang paniniwala mo WELL-INFORMED ka…Eh, halimbawa, just por exampol onli…kulang at mali ang iyong impormasyon at pagkaintindi…pero hindi mo namamalayan…ang sama ano?
Talaga..pero huwag kang mabahala masyado…HINDI KA NAGIISA sa posisyung yan. Lalo na kung sa Media ka lang umaasa ng mga tunay na balita sa araw-araw.
Nguinit, may kasabihang, “all is well, that ends well” At inaamin ko at tinatanggap ko na ang punto de vista na binaggit mo sa huli…na sanhi ng maraming mali ni GLO sa pagpapalakad ng gobyerno ay ang KOMPROMISO….diyan, naniniwala ako. Kaya nagkakaloko-loko ang patakbo ng gobyerno.
Pero ang kakulangang iyan ay HINDI LAHAT PUWEDENG ISAPAW SA PRESIDENTE LAMANG…maski na sino pang presidente. Kasi ang perst rule ng “self-governance” sa demokrasya ay – “sariling sikap”. “ask no what your country can do for you…ask what you can do for your country.”
Wala akong problema kung gusto mo at ng iba na magreklamo against the president…maski sinong presidente pa yan….noong nakalipas or yung mga magiging president pa sa hinaharap na darating na panahon. Kasama sa demokrasya yan.

Kaya lang, siguraduhin natin…huwag yung banat lang tayo ng banat…ng walang saysay. Walang pruweba. Hindi natin mapatunayan sa pagitan ng maliwanag at kapanipaniwalang pagbabatikus.

Hindi biro ang magpalakad ng gobyernong tulad ng Pilipinas,

Just enough REFORMS, para maging “wannabee” din sila…pero huwag demolish da istablishment.
In another 4 odd years, tapos na ang turno ni Glo. It will be over before you even think about it. So, tigilan mo na ang paghihimutok. She may not be the best president you would like to have…BUT SHE IS THE ONLY PRESIDENT, THAT WE
NOW HAVE. And there are no “adequate” substitutes for immediate replacements in the visible horizon. Yun yun.
I suggest that you give up the crusade. There is no Holy Grail. It has been found…pero unfortunately, yung nakakita ng Holy Grail…did not realize it, because hindi niya na-recognize it…kaya noong nakita niya, he did not appreciate it…kasi siya ay “so full of what is right…” nawalan siya ng “wat is good”.

I can and am saying exactly the OPPOSITE thing to you. And you have no LEGAL nor MORAL nor LOGICAL basis for justifying what you are claiming. Emotional perhaps…but emotions are cheap.
And like I have always stressed – “A mind convinced against its will, is of the same opinion still.”
If I look up, and you look down, upon the smallest woman in town,
I will see her feet, her hands and nose…you will see her head, her knees and toes…
And though it is one girl we see…I’ll swear she is “A”, you will swear she is “B”…
And so it is..there are objective evidences …called prima facie..on the face and on the surface are PROOFS OF FACTs claimed.
Then there is evidence deduced or inferred. Through logical reasoning. YOU HAVE OFFERED NOTHING. Except a claim. You rest your arguments and political positioning on rank hearsay and propaganda. And conclude with the classic defense of the liberal-radical-leftleaning bloviators – “personal perception”. I don’t buy it. And I am not assailed by it. You have to come out with something better and more convincing.
