Black and White Protest

The Black and White Movement is launching a Black Friday Protest Movement today. “It’s safe, no-risk, non-confrontational and within the bounds of law,” says B&W convenor Enteng Romano III, apparently directed to those in the middle-class who are disgusted with Arroyo but are hesitating to join protest activities.

Patterned after the flash mob concept, Romano said the Black Friday Protest calls on people to gather at a designated time and place every Friday wearing black attire as a symbol of protest. There will be no programs or speeches. Instead, people will be given specific instructions on what to do, and the whole exercise should last about 30 minutes at most.

Details of the Black Friday protest action for the week will be published at its blogsite (www.BlackFridayProtest.blogspot.com) every Wednesday evening. Those who would like to receive instruction directly can also subscribe to the movement’s bulletin service by sending a blank email to

BlackFridayProtest-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Today, Black Friday Protest will be done in any Starbucks Café, between 6 to 7 p.m. Those who want to participate are requested to wear black and go to Starbucks with friends. After getting a drink, take a seat, preferably outside, and hang out for 30 minutes. When leaving, do the “thumbs down” sign.

Romano said this is a novel way to express protest against the continuing and escalating acts of repression of the GMA administration as manifested in its series of proclamations – the Calibrated Preventive Response, EO 464, and Proclamation 1017 – all designed to curtail basic rights and oppress the people.

  1. This method of protest have been done and prooven ineffective. Why starbuck?? Anyone of this so-called middle class or most of them held starbuck shares? just wondering..And a time limit too. well, guys great nations were not built with a cup of coffee and a 30 minutes sacrifice of your time. It is a continuing process that demand great scarifices from its subjects. And please don’t separate yourself from the rest of the country. i live in a country where citizens are considered equal when it comes to rights to bring about reform, protest which is available to all and affordable to all and not only for middle class that can afford to “drive” to starbuck to do a 30 minutes Flash Mob.. You can have your cup -and when the proper time comes the Pilipino People, the real ones will show you how to do it. And when I say equal our Constitution States That all subjects are EQUAL regardless of race, color, religion, disablities and stature in life.
