Bishops give up on House

The bishops’ pastoral letter last Monday, in effect, said that our congressmen are a hopeless bunch as far as the search for truth is concerned.

House majority leader Pros-pero Nograles said the CBCP is “correct”.

I am flabbergasted.

Explaining their non-support for the second impeachment complaint against Gloria Arroyo “as the means for establishing the truth,” the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines said: “Unless the process and its rules as well as the mindset of all participating parties, pro and con, are guided by no other motive than genuine concern for the common good, impeachment will once again serve as an unproductive political exercise dismaying every citizen and deepening the citizens’ negative perception of politicians, left, right and center.”

The bishops’ pastoral letter reflects the prevailing disrespect on members of the House of Representatives. A well-deserved reputation, given how they killed the first impeachment complaint in exchange for their million pieces of silver. The bishops are saying that unless the rules the congressmen perverted to protect Arroyo are changed, truth will have no chance. And Nograles proudly said, “Correct.”

No doubt the CBCP’s statement is a blow to those who still try to cling to constitutional means to seek redress to Gloria Arroyo’s crime of thwarting the will of the people in the 2004 elections.

I’d like to recall the speech of Randy David last month during the launching of the impeachment complaint:

“Our people have become disenchanted not only with the administration but with the political opposition as well. That is why the question of alternatives won’t go away. Our people have come to distrust not only the politicians in power but also those presently out of power. For this reason and many others, we should not wonder if they treat the impeachment process as though it were a useless exercise.

“They see impeachment in exactly the same way columnist Boo Chanco imagines it in one of his recent columns – a process that only serves to fatten a bunch of greedy congressmen and local government officials. Boo’s advice is that the impeachment idea ought to be dropped, ‘unless the House Opposition can gather more than enough sure votes for the impeachment of Ate Glue to progress,’ I find this kind of reasoning somewhat illogical, but I am sure it makes sense to a lot of people.

“Boo Chanco argues that the danger of being impeached has forced Gloria to make decisions that are useful to her political survival but detrimental to the nation’s interests. The opposition, he says, must bow to political realities; if they do not have the numbers, they should give to Gloria the period of political calm she needs in order ‘to undo some of the things she did that are inimical to public welfare.’

“This kind of reasoning assumes that Mrs. Arroyo’s controversial rise to the presidency in 2001 and her equally controversial bid to keep it in 2004 have not tied down her hands so completely that she could still actually govern well if only she is not distracted by her critics.

“It assumes, above all, a well-meaning and principled president. First, I think we all know that in both 2001 and 2004, Gloria accumulated enough political debts that she would likely need another lifetime to repay all of them.

“Today, the situation is such that the greatest threat to her remaining in power comes not from her political opponents, but from the very same people who have an intimate knowledge of what she did to become president. I do not think these people have been repaid, or if they have, it is likely that not all of them are happy with what they got, I think that if you asked many people to help you lie, cheat, and steal in the course of your rise to power–it would be next to impossible for you to have calm and peace of mind.”

When Randy and his co-complainants, who came from all walks of life, including Caloocan City Bishop Deogracias Yñiguez, filed the second impeachment complaint, they stressed that they were doing so without illusions. They were aware of the difficulty of finding 79 members of the House with conscience.

But Randy hopes that the impeachment process would help stir once again public consciousness to Arroyo’s “bogus presidency”, as Brig. Gen. Danny Lim so powerfully stated in his video message recently made public.

Arroyo is again expected to abuse the powers of the presidency to suppress the protests against her “bogus presidency” and Randy said it could have the same effect as Marcos’ rigging of the 1986 snap elections.

Randy said, “In the years following the assassination of Ninoy Aquino, foreign observers ridiculed our people by calling us a nation of 65 million sheep ruled by two clever thieves. Our seeming patience with the Marcos conjugal dictatorship was inexplicable to foreigners.

“Marcos himself thought he could be president forever when he called for a snap election. We all knew he would rig the election, but for our people, it didn’t matter. They would use the election to show how angry they were. Thus the snap election became the nursery of people power.”

Unwittingly, by closing the impeachment door as a way to seek truth and justice to Arroyo’s trampling of the law, the bishops may have shortened the process towards other means outside the parameters of the Constitution.

  1. Statement of Rep. Roilo Golez:

The motive of the impeachment complainants cannot be ascribed to power. Should the president be removed by impeachment, the opposition would not politically benefit because the constitutional successor is the vice president who belongs to the same party as the president and who was the President’s personal choice as her running mate.

Lakas would continue as the party in power, ditto with the majority in the House.

The impeachment group sees this as a necessary process for cleansing and quest for truth.

The courts are not the correct venue for truth seeking because an incumbent President cannot be taken to court.

Yes, I am also flabbergasted. But more at the Spin that the Palace successfully put on the CBCP statement that the bishops does not want Gloria to be impeached. Sapagkat kaya lang ayaw nilang kampihan ang impeachment ay sapagkat sa tingin nila ay hindi ito mananalo dahil sa mga tinamaan ng kulog na administration Congressmen who are not “guided by no other motive than genuine concern for the common good”, but rather by their own selfish good.

But people are on the right track. People coming from all sectors should file impeachment complaints one on top of the others until they have a mountain of it at the Batasang Pambansa. Let the nation and the world see that really 80 percent of us want Gloria impeached. If those “see nothing, hear nothing” monkeys in the House of Representathieves again vote the impeachment down they will at least do it against that mountain of impeachment complaints, against the very people they are supposed to vote for.

I do not believe in the CBCP as a group. They can be influenced by the Palace. But I admire the vocal bishops like Cruz and Inigez who filed an impeachment complaint and the priests and nuns who are not following the CBCP line.

Malacanang was indeed very happy with the recent Pastoral statement. The midget’s treat and money were not wasted. Those dinners and gifts were good investment especially considering that those didn’t even come from her own money; but the tax payers’.

CBCP is obviously more of a political party than a religious organization. They never speak with one voice but has to come out with a joint statement on crucial political issues like impeachment. Deep inside these bishops, they know this midget is guilty. But, the total welfare of the church and organization must be considered and protected. The tax exempt privileges and other benefits the church enjoy for centuries shut their mouth. Some reason they are also human beings…but they are not ordinary beings…they are pastors who shepherd their flock.
If they indeed have the true spirit coming from God, they would not be always committing such mistakes. The division within the church has been in existence ever since. This divided leadership transcends to ordinary members who are leaving the church by large numbers. Other religious groups are taking advantage of the chaos, scandals and divisiveness within the church. Are they really of God?

  4. I am not at all surprise at this action of the CBCP and its response to criticisms even by members of their church for what is apparently its often misguided actions that frankly only confirms the wisdom of my own action when I decided to leave the Catholic Church for a better religion that could teach me more about God and how I could live a life in accordance with His Will and His Commandments, line upon line, precept upon precept without the hypocrisy to which its members are being molded and disciplined.

At least, when I was a practicing Catholic in the Philippines, the priests and nuns were not engrossed in politics although I could not help feeling suspicious of those priests who were overly fondling of little kids and wondered if indeed they were immuned to the sexualities of those who are not wearing their frocks, for then, the frocks were what used to distinguish them from the ordinary people. Now we see them wear their frocks only when they perform their religious rites!

Still, even when they were not joining demonstrations, etc. against the government when the only archbishop then was Rufino Santos, who no political man, I decided that it was NOT the true church of God here on earth, and if I remained in that church, I would be as dumb and stupid to be worshipping all those saints, including some aunts of someone corrupt I know will surely burn in hell for his/their blasphemous acts, hypocrisy and greed, and still be ignorant of the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and knowledge of Our Father, whom Christ Himself introduced to us during His Ministry on earth, and miss the chance indeed to get full membership in His true church and opportunity to enter God’s Kingdom that ONLY God Himself has the key to let us in.

I won’t apologize for these mouthful but they have to be said as I feel I should. I cannot help wondering in fact if these priests when they wrote such important letter to members of their church really prayed about it, for if they did, I doubt if they could write it at all since they could always say and reason out the separation of church and state for not giving in to the order or request from the squatter at the palace by the murky river, who wined and dined them for such favor!

As for Yniquez and his friends, I take my hats off to him for his courage in filing their impeachment for their group. It has nothing to do with his being a priest but as a concerned citizen of the Philippines. At least, the CBCP has made a clarification of this.

It is actually in conformity with our belief in fact that we are subject to the laws of the land inspired by God for maintaining peace and order.

I would like to leave these thoughts with you that are found in the Articles of Faith of the church to which I now belong for inspiration. I challenge you to pray about it, and ask God if they are true or not. They are just one of the things that give me the courage and be valiant to stand for truth and right:

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own cconscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in cobeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to gendure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

  5. Contrary to the contention of the Bansot and her minions, there is nothing wrong about criticizing someone everyone knows has cheated in the election, and though she may think that she is the rightful claimant to the throne, all means possible SHOULD be applied and ALL those who want to do this should be ready and steadfast in their resolve to have her removed even by the power of the Almighty through faith, prayer and fasting! It is in fact called “FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, THE PRESS AND ASSEMBLY!”

I would not repeat any word that the adversary dictates like this silly mouthing about disunity, etc. that are likewise as fanciful as those silly spins that the Bansot is trying hard to propagate. It’s time, once again, for Filipinos to have faith in themselves especially when they have God to guide and help them for the truth and justice to prevail.

General Lim, et al, in fact, can be good inspirations to all those who are into this movement to right the wrong in their government.

I am praying for all these brave Filipinos! May God bless, preserve, guide and help you all!

Bishops give up on the house and I say People give up on the bishops. Both are all politicians now, and we know how politicians act. They were very flexible, and they are so good and expert in going with the flow and bend where the wind blows. Except for a very few among them, they are a bunch of unprincipled leaders and you can have them in your spell at a price. That’s why they deserved no respect and should not deserve any respect from the people, because, both doesn’t care about the people. It’s not because of the CBCP’s statement that make the House of Thieves lost the respect that’s supposed to be due them. They already lost it a long long time ago. The CBCP make it even worse for them and for themselves by making them as a scapegoat in their very unwise decision not to support the complaints thus giving the people a reason to loss their respect for them too. They have nothing but contempt for the people. To quote a late cardinal, “mga bungal, mababaho, walang pinag-aralan”, So, if you don’t have any respect for them how can you not give up on them. It’s just common sense.

The majority party in the House of Representatives (Thieves) cannot be trusted. They sold their souls to evil Malacanang Palace illegal occupant. There’s a strong possibility that gambling money indirectly bribed some bishops to soften their impeachment stand. GMA congressmen and some bishops are modern day Judas Iscariot. The 30 pieces of silver (bribe money) they received for betraying the Filipino people. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has no alternative to seek the truth in the alleged Gloria Arroyo’s election cheating, bribery and cover-up. Are they flirting people power? Most likely the parliament of the streets is the next battleground.

  12. Emilio_OFW Emilio_OFW

I say “AMEN”. God bless their souls for misguiding their flocks in exchange for favorable statement of not supporting the second impeachment of the Bansot after the “dinner” in Malacanang.

Isn’t it that they (CBCP) are also seeking for the truth regarding the cheating, lying and stealing in May 2004 elections? If the impeachment process is one of the avenues to get to the bottom of this, why then a turn-around?

The bishops are a bunch of hypocrites except Cruz & Yniguez. My hat’s off for the two of you!

  13. jorgie jorgie

I read the pastoral statement many times and came up with this conclusion: We shouldn’t be attacking the CBCP so much. Why? At first glance, people are made to understand and believe that the CBCP is against impeachment. But careful reading of the statement tells us that they are not in favor AT THIS TIME. What they mean is that they are not CURRENTLY in favor because it will be an exercise in futility. Knowing how inconsistent and fickle minded these bishops are, they may still change their position later; whether after a few months or next year, we don’t know.

Even now, the opposition doesn’t have enough numbers. From last year’s more than 50 votes, it has gone down to over 20 as of this writing. It’s numbers game in Congress. It’s not a matter of who is right or wrong; but who has the number. And with the ambitious JDV calling the shots and acting as the midget’s trouble shooter again and the resources in the midget’s hands, most congressmen will stay with her.

Take note of CBCP other statement: There should be an election next year. Since many candidates from the opposition are expected to win, impeachment would favor them next year because the number of opposition in Congress will increase. By then, CBCP shall come up with another pastoral letter in favor of impeachment and even the midget to resign. On the other hand, anticipating the above scenario the midget and her allies are working overtime to amend the constitution. Once it’s parliamentary form of government, there will be no more impeachment because Congress would have been dissolved.

Does the above analogy make sense?

  14. goldenlion goldenlion

Okay! CBCP does not support impeachment because it is useless……dadayain din ni black magic woman at mga alipores niya. But what is the other option?? Because they play safe!! Aba!!! malaking pera yata ang involved. If 60% of the members of the CBCP do not support impeachment, gaanong pera ang inilabas nina gloria para sa kanila, kung tig-30 thousand pesos bawat isa?
I hope those money will be used for the pro-poor projects. But I doubt, baka sa pro-pocket nila.

Religion groups are now penetrated by Satan….looks like they can’t get away with the evil activities of the illegal occupants of malacanang. Break CBCP now……and let them rest….in PEACE!!!

  15. Why can’t this impeachment pass with just the voice of the people to dictate it, and not the number games being played by the Congressmen bribed by the burot who thinks that she can continue fooling Filipinos by their legs! Anong klase bang batas ang mayroon ang mga pilipino that they cannot find a way most legal to thwart this evil plan to retain the crook who have managed to keep her usurped and stolen position through this number game ala-jueteng?

Enough is enough. Sipain na ang burot na iyan! Golly, lahat ng klaseng pagbubugaw iniisip! Now, pati itong caregiver project niya glorified prostitution ang labas.

  16. goldenlion goldenlion

Ellen, tama ang sabi mo the group “One voice” ay pro-gloria. I have read that christian monsod acted as the mediator of bansot to make the bishops favorable to “no impeachment”. Naglipana na ang mga anti-people, anti-Christ, pro-evil!!!

  17. Spartan Spartan

Can’t be Bought but Can be Payed (CBCP) is playing “both sides of the fence”…plain and simple.

Regarding the statement of the CBCP, isn’t it ironic that the pro gloria TONGressmen are the ones that cannot be trusted, like for example, isn’t that TONGressman NOGNOGrales said that their position in the house of representaTHIEVES will be on the line once the impeachment complaint against the leprechaun reaches the senate, what can the CBCP say to that, isn’t it in 2005/last year’s impeachment, most of these TONGressmen admits that they were given favors by the leprechaun??? what does the CBCP wants to know???all we are asking for, is for the leprechaun to face the impeachment and give her side, the problem is how can a LYING/STEALING AND CHEATING PERSON clear his/her name??? I dont have a clue.

Anotehr thing, here comes mike velarde, after enriching himself during erap’s time, sabihin ba naman na he is supporting the CBCP’s stand on impeachment.

I say we concentrate on de castro, we force him to distant himself from the leprechaun so he will be forced to resign, that way, the leprechuan will also be forced to resign and call a snap election.

These lawmakers are serving in the pleasure of money.

I bet you will have his classmates at West Point to fight for him as well. I hope so kasi katulad ni Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, iyan ay nakatagal sa puwesto na hindi magalaw ng mga kano halimbawa dahil sa lakas ng mga kaibigan niya na nasa Parliament dahil doon siya nag-aral. I know he is from Oxford University, too.

May his tribe increase!

  32. jorgie jorgie

    out of topic ate ellen…

  35. Spartan Spartan

I got “teary-eyed” watching and listening to the mother of one of the two. Live on national tv, in Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, without “malice” and only “thinking about” the “saving” of her daughter, she utter this “blasphemous words”…”…mahal naming Presidente Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo,…”, apparently trying to “call” and “earn” the “imaginary compassion” of the DEVIL HERSELF. Can’t blame the “old lady”, she even went to the point of telling that “they supported Gloria during the last Presidential Election”…talk about “getting the rock that would bash your head”.

RP, 17th happiest state worldwide, Vanuatu happiest–study

    INQ7.net, Agence France-Presse
Last updated 10:52am (Mla time) 07/12/2006

LONDON — The Philippines ranks 17th among the 178 countries ranked as the happiest on Earth, according to a study published Wednesday measuring people’s well being and their impact on the environment.

The tiny South Pacific Ocean archipelago of Vanuatu is the happiest, with Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, and Panama completing the top five in the Happy Planet Index compiled by the British think-tank New Economics Foundation.

The index combines life satisfaction, life expectancy and environmental footprint — the amount of land required to sustain the population and absorb its energy consumption.

Zimbabwe is at the bottom, below second-worst performer Swaziland, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine.

The Group of Eight industrial powers meet in Saint Petersburg this weekend but have not much to smile about, according to the index.

Italy came out best in 66th place, ahead of Germany (81), Japan (95), Britain (108), Canada (111), France (129), the United States (150) and Russia, in lowly 172nd place.

Andrew Simms, NEF’s policy director, said the index “addresses the relative success or failure of countries in giving their citizens a good life while respecting the environmental resource limits on which all our lives depend.”

Nic Marks, the head of NEF’s center for wellbeing, added: “It is clear that no single nation listed in the Happy Planet Index has got everything right.

“But the index does reveal patterns that show how we might better achieve long and happy lives for all, whilst living within our environmental means,” he said, according to British daily The Guardian. “The challenge is: can we learn the lessons and apply them?”

Island nations performed particularly well in the rankings. But Vanuatu, with a population of around 200,000, topped them all.

“Don’t tell too many people, please,” said Marke Lowen of Vanuatu Online, the republic’s online newspaper.

“People are generally happy here because they are very satisfied with very little,” Lowen told The Guardian.

“This is not a consumer-driven society. Life here is about community and family and goodwill to other people. It’s a place where you don’t worry too much,” Lowen said.

“The only things we fear are cyclones or earthquakes,” he said.

    Also on the list are 23. Indonesia; 31. China; 32. Thailand; 44. Malaysia; 62. India; 64. Iceland; 70. Netherlands; 87. Spain; 88. Hong Kong; 89. Saudi Arabia; 99. Denmark; 112. Pakistan; 115. Norway; 119. Sweden; 123. Finland; 139. Australia; 154. UAE; 156. South Africa; 159. Kuwait; 166. Qatar.

  37. Juanmagpalaya:

  39. No, nasa Muntinlupa pa si Webb, Jorgie.

It’s something unthinkable in Japan where all are treated equal–pare-parehong pagkain, etc.

In the end, mga swindler at mandarambong ang labas! Malabo at sigurista.

    GMA rating up slightly

    The Philippine Star 07/12/2006

Public satisfaction with President Arroyo’s performance has climbed up several notches to a net satisfaction rating of -13 percent, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) second quarter survey for this year showed.

“While still negative since the third quarter of 2004, the President’s rating has gone up in the past two quarters, from -30 percent in December 2005 and —25 percent in March 2006,” the SWS said in a statement.

The non-commissioned survey found that Mrs. Arroyo’s net satisfaction scores rose in most areas of the country except in Metro Manila, where it declined from -37 in March to a new record low of -48 in June. The net rating was obtained by subtracting the percentage of dissatisfied respondents from satisfied respondents.

In the Visayas, Mrs. Arroyo’s net rating recovered to 2 percent in June from —12 percent in March.

In the rest of Luzon, Mrs. Arroyo’s net score became “less unfavorable,” from -23 in March to -13 percent in June, while in Mindanao, it rose to -7 from —32 percent.

Respondents from among the “masa” were less unsatisfied with Mrs. Arroyo’s performance, with her net satisfaction rating among the D class going up from —22 percent in March to -10 in June and, among the E class, from -33 to —22 percent.

However, her net score declined among the ABC classes, from -17 in March to —27 percent in June — the second-lowest on record after her —34 percent score in December 2000 and May 2005.

The SWS second quarter survey for 2006 was conducted from June 22 to 28, using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults divided into random samples of 300 each from Metro Manila, the Visayas, Mindanao and the rest of Luzon. The error margin was plus or minus three percentage points for national percentages and plus or minus six percentage points for area percentages.

Anyway, the truth shall prevail.

Kung ako lang ang masusunod I’ll just ignore them, and the Church should totally ignore politics. Tama na yang mga moral concern. Kung yun ngang mga priest abuses and other moral problems of the church hindi pa rin nilang makayang gampanan ng tama, mga tao pa kaya? I think the country is still under parochial hypnosis. It is time you woke up guys.

  43. Jefferson Chiong Jefferson Chiong

    Armand Rubio;

I’m for the religious to leave politics to the politicians; tulad ng sinabi mo na hindi nila [pari] makayang gampanan ng tama, mga tao pa kaya?

  44. The reality, Armand, is that the Catholic Church in the Philippines has that too great hold on its members, culturally speaking and otherwise, even now kahit na marami na ang umaalis dahil nga sa nakikita ng mga tao na walang ginawa ang mga pare kundi mamulitika.

Now, me bothered about this? 1/3 of the spirits in heaven ang kumampi kay Satanas, remember?

At stick to one idealism na tama. Kaya nga ang sabi ng Panginoon: “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Luke 11: 9, 24)

  45. octavian octavian

he he he.. nahuli si jocjoc bolante.. nakakulong na sa U.S. di na mahihirapan ang senado sa paghahanap.

  46. Oops, nakandabuhol-buhol na ang tagalog. This should read:

Listen to this: “And it came to pass that they formed a secret acombination, even as they of old; which combination is most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God; For the Lord worketh not in secret combinations, neither doth he will that man should shed blood, but in all things hath forbidden it, from the beginning of man. And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.” (Ether 8: 18-19, 22, 24)

Gaya nga ng sabi ng Panginoon, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” (Rom. 12: 19)

And more, “Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.” (Ether 8: 24)

Kaya ano man gusto at hiling pilit ibigay at makisama ang magkabila.

I wonder how much money the Midget gave the Pope as “contribution” to the Catholic Church kaya ang lakas ng loob na umastang mas mataas ang rangko niya kesa doon sa mga archbishop ng simbahan nila.

Tanga at gago pala sila!

  51. Octavian:

Thanks for the update on Bolante. Hopefully, the US will not send him back to the Philippines until Bansot is removed for there is no guaranty that Magsaysay will be able to keep him in jail over here. US, and how they do so, I do not know.

The US may be able to find the loophole like his delivery of stolen funds to the US against some money laundering law. Mapapahiya si Bansot for saying that she has wiped out money laundering when in fact she is engaged in it via this Joc-Joc Bolante.

    Isa pang survey na magulo..paano ba ginagawa ito at nagkakaroon ng negative percent percent kuno. Example lang;
    Sinurbey 1000 tao
>>mukhang kahit saan ay me cheating.

The Bishops or the CBCP group without the benefit of the doubt knew exactly what they were doing when they reneged in supporting Gloria’s impeachment. They’ve manipulated facts with their fancy meaningless words to why they’ll not support the impeachment at this time. They’ve a way of directing the blame on others instead of owning up to their inability to see the reality of truths about illegitimate Gloria Arroyo. How much more convincing does an individual need in rejecting Gloria Arroyo? For starter, Gloria unconstitutionaly grabbed power. Along with the husband, together with others plotted for years of ousting President Estrada. Then, concocted charges against President Estrada so Gloria can occupy Malacanang. Gloria has detained and prosecuted the only legitimate President of the Philippines. That’s a clear betrayal of public trust after Gloria have sworn an oath of office..I, Gloria will faithfully and consientiously fulfill my duties …Total Bull!

Of course, no need to rehash the one million votes dagdag/bawas and the famous Hello Garci and we know who won, definitely not Gloria. Pilipinos and our culture as a nation were the victim of Gloria’s dishonesty, and now we suffered as a nation. And, because of Gloria’s lying, cheating and stealing foreign investors are staying away from the Philippines. How about Jose Pidal account and numerous real estate properties that Gloria and Mickey owned in San Francisco, not mentioning the numeous properties in the Philippines. We can go on with the list of Gloria’s major crimes against the Republic and the people of the Philippines more than sufficient enough to put Gloria away for the rest of her life, but the justice system is as corrupt as the one in Malacanang. So, we just talked about it.

CBCP you are at the wrong side of justice.

The “friarcity” has never changed since it first tasted the power during the colonial years. The “church” will always get what it wants in whatever way including the physical removal of the the hindrance to its interest. Remember “la loba negra”. That novel that was attributed to father Burgos, retelling the assassination of Spanish Governor of the Philippines Islands, Fernando Bustamante for undermining the power and control of the Church. Now, it will still do everything, to maintain its status as the so-called 2nd government and will play its card close to its chest that was the vault of many a dark and shameless deeds. I hope someday when ask by its flock what “Crime” had I done to deserve this fate, the church won’t give the same answer the “friar’ gave to father Burgos; ‘even Christ was innocent too’…

Paano ba namang hindi ka maiinis sa administrasyon na pinangungunahan ni Pandak, pag hindi pabor sa kanya ang sinasabi ng CBCP she complains to the height of her voice about the separation of the church and state being violated. For what? Kailangan ba ‘to? The Pope has nothing to do with the internal affairs of our country. She claims that the Pope was very appreciative of her policies. Kailangan ba ‘to? in her governance? Baka nga, because she believes na hangga ngayon ang mga tao are still looking up to the church for their salvation, and she is exploiting this popular sentiment to her advantage. Exploiters talaga. Kaya lang to the world, ipinakikita niya na ang Pi;ipinas ay isang “vassal’ of the Vatican. Hindi ba isang act of violation yan on the separation of church and state? Ang gulo gulo. Hanggang kailan kaya natin titiisin ang ganitong klaseng pamahalaan. Tama ang sabi ng isang blogger dito- CBCP has become another political group. Their present ideology is the legacy ng isang taong kardinal ang pagkakasala.

Ngayon, no permit no rally.

Sorry out of topic…just FYI: They came, they conquered, they escaped.

Chavit’s hand seen in Pelaezes’ ‘escape’

Blanquita Pelaez, mother of former beauty contestant Joelle Pelaez, managed to sneak out of the country reportedly with the help of Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson.

Joelle left the country through the Manila airport but bound for Hong Kong, reportedly to meet up with her mother.

Highly reliable sources yesterday said Blanquita left the Philippines on board a private plane reportedly owned by Singson from Manila to Cebu International Airport late Sunday afternoon where she waited for a commercial flight to Los Angeles, California, early Monday morning to Hong Kong en route to Los Angeles.

Joelle Pelaez was reported to have left early yesterday morning for Los Angeles via Hong Kong.

Blanquita was reported to have boarded the same airline that Joelle took from Manila to Hong Kong yesterday.

The mother-and-daughter tandem arrived in the Philippines last week only to file criminal charges against jailed President Joseph Estrada and United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) officials for alleged money-laundering activities.

The camp of Estrada on Tuesday criticized the Arroyo administration for allegedly implementing

a double standard of Justice by allowing Blanquita “to roam freely” despite a pending warrant of arrest issued by the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) in November 2003 for estafa in connection with the supply of night vision goggles for the military.

Blanquita is also the subject of Estrada’s libel suit which will be filed this week.

According to former Immigration chief lawyer Rufus Rodriguez, Blanquita is considered a fugitive from the law and is the object of a manhunt by the Makati police and other law enforcement agencies for her alleged conviction in the estafa case.

Rodriguez, one of Estrada’s lawyers and spokesmen, said it was surprising for Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez not to have issued a hold departure order for Blanquita when this has been a standard operating procedure for all convicted criminals.

Blanquita was convicted of frustrated estafa by Judge Winlove Dumayas of the Branch 58 of the Makati RTC on May 14, 2004.

Rodriguez maintained that Singson had a hand in the surfacing of the Pelaezes in order to sway the decision of the Sandiganbayan justices handling the plunder and perjury charges filed by the Arroyo administration against Estrada.

  60. For all you the Philippines is being led to become a martial state under the AFP with a titular head like Bansot, whom the military finds a willing performer because of her arrogance and vanity plus ka-alembongan as you watch her pa-cute-cute smile at the generals who come to her dinners with pakipkip.

Iyan ang dapat ingatan as a matter of fact that the Philippines does not become like Burma under SLORC and living off on foreign aids or Cambodia when it turned into a killing field.

Filipinos should demand for the return of a civilian operated police agency, not one that is more like a Gestapo under the management of the military, and stop these men in uniform from getting in to houses without warrants, abducting and killing people suspected of being subversive or simply because “natipuhan ng mga bastos na sundalo” just like what those horny US soldiers do in Iraq.

I fear for the lives of the UP students for example who have been taken from their boarding houses but are still missing. Everybody knows Palparan’s men got them, so why still deny that the Bansot has imposed military rule with her EOs that are even likewise deceitful written in some language that not even the Bansot I guess can understand!

I understand that this same chaotic state existed during the Marcos dictatorship. At least, Marcos did not make any pretentions about it. He declared first Martial Rule before those arrests, etc. that were legally sanctioned under a Martial law.

  61. God works in mysterious ways indeed. Okay, Gloria’s protectors in the CBCP won judging by their stand in the impeachment issue.

But they did not reckon that the stories on gifts/bribes from Malacañang would come out. Now, they have been unmasked. Sources said CBCP is worried about the erosion of their credibility.

Gloria Arroyo indeed has the opposite of Midas touch. Everything she touches becomes dirt. She didn’t even spare the bishops.

“Manang” Yuko, you’re absolutely right that the Philippines is “being made” by Gloria “Macapal Ahmuk”-Arroyo into a “military state”. We all know that all of those “retired” generals that “had been very supportive” to “her cause”, were all given “important” and “financially fruitful” government “posts”. Take the “case” of “Angie”, from being the DILG’s “top honcho”, he was “put in place” of “Mighty Miyak” at the “helm” of the DENR….hhhmmmmmm, D-E-N-“RESOURCES”…talk about “gold-money”, “copper-money”, and “tree-money”…whoa, BONANZA!!!. You’ve seen how “Angie” Reyes clapped when he asked those TMG personnels involved in the “alledged” Ortigas Shootout..”..are you happy? everybody happy?..ok, clapped your hands..”, the way he “clapped” there would look “weak” compare to the “clapping” that he did (of course secretely) when he got his “present post”. “Palakpak pati tenga”, ika nga. Now, this Gen. Tenga…I mean, Senga would already be “retiring”…let’s all wait and see what “delicious menu”(selection of gov. positions) Gloria would “offer” her “BIG EARS” in the AFP.

  65. AKBAYAN STATEMENT ON THE CBCP STATEMENT:
    12 July 2006

On 28 June, Bishop Deogracias Yniguez filed an impeachment complaint against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. In behalf of Akbayan, my party, I endorsed the same.

As a citizen, the Bishop wanted to walk the way of impeachment, being the Constitutional instrument provided to determine whether or not there is probable cause to impeach the President.

When the CBCP said that Bishop Yniguez had all the right to take initiative in his search for the truth, the bishops were underscoring the right of the bishop as a Filipino citizen to seek the truth in much the same way the Bishop had explained his position.

When the same CBCP collectively decided the other day that the impeachment process in Congress was not the way of seeking the truth, they were merely stating facts about the limitations of the current Congress and its members; that much of what defines the political choices made by members of the House today are determined by concerns parochial and specific to their interests and to what they define as constituent concerns. It is known to all and sundry, although there is no written evidence of this, that what appeared decisive in the votes for or against impeachment last year were the material benefits rewarded to those who voted for the dismissal of the impeachment complaint. In fact, there were some colleagues honest enough to admit that they could not vote against the President considering the fact that a number of projects were provided their districts and jobs were given their constituents. The political value of such decisions is primordial; especially if this will directly benefit the constituents who will look kindly on the representative from whom the material rewards are provided.

The open discussion today on whether or not bags of rice and medicine were given bishops who were conferring these past two days on social and political questions smacks of the same experience. The question on whether or not forty bishops accepted these material benefits intended for the poor is in the same spirit that projects and jobs are provided members of the House specifically to benefit their poor constituents. The issues on whether or not cash was offered by the Palace to the same bishops in conference likewise reflects the same problematic the bishops face with the Palace. That some bishops have openly criticized this Palace behavior and have found it most insulting is precisely the very reason the bishops support individual initiatives to pursue the truth about alleged fraud, cheating and bribery committed by the President.

Hence, the CBCP Statement is not, contrary to views that have come out in the open, in favor of the President; nor is it against impeachment per se and as a process. It asserts repeatedly that it is in favor of the common good, which it feels both Administration and Opposition solons should strive for, “whether Left, Right and Center”.

The vision is really in having a Congressional body that would rise above immediate and material considerations. A body where every member defines his vote in accordance with how he values the weight of public trust against the evidence of violations ranging from betrayal of this trust, the commission of election fraud, violations of human rights and bribery committed from the 2004 elections to the present.

The results of last year’s impeachment dismayed and disappointed the public and, for this purpose, the Catholic Bishops. It seemed more evident that the common good – which is the relentless search for truth was obstructed by the immediate rewards made available to the members of the House at the time.

“For unless the process and its rules as well as the mindsets of all participating parties, pro and con, are guided by no other motive than genuine concern for the common good, impeachment will once again serve as an unproductive political exercise, dismaying every citizen, and deepen- ing the negative perception of politicians, Left, Right, and Center,” CBCP President Angel Lagdameo said.

It was at this time of debate and dialog over the futile exercise of impeachment that reports came out regarding the bags of rice and medicine that freely flowed from Malacanang to the bishops’ bailiwicks. It was likewise in this Bishops’ Conference where reports came out that envelopes from the Palace were being distributed to the bishops.

What comes out clearer than daylight is the fact that, more than ever, the Filipino people are the ones that must be relied upon ultimately to fight for the common good; given that it is they, the Filipino people, who will benefit best in the pursuit of this good. Let the people and their bishops, priests and nuns knock on every district and party list door of the House in hot pursuit of this common good for the common tao. Contrary to every one’s fears, we might yet make the magic 78!

Ellen, you mentioned that CBCP is worried about their credibility? Since when did they have credibility? They have zero credibility. Anyway Ellen, how’s your health now? Have you fully recovered?

  67. I’m okay,Jorgie. My last major checkup last january showed no recurrence of cancer. I have my regular checkup every two months. So far so good. Every day is a gift and I want to use it more meaningfully. I believe, upholding truth and justice is one way.

  68. I echo the same optimism as Etta’s. The point is that more and more Filipinos want this illegitimacy of the incumbent to be resolved once and for all.

The Bansot’s puppies talk of silencing the silent majority, but we say, it’s about time they make noise and show her and her minions that the Filipino people are fed up of her propaganda, and expensive image building when all that is needed is for someone much more gifted and sincere should be taking over to fix the mess that she has created, someone whom the majority can support and work with for a better Philippines.

2007 will be a good opportunity to kick out the usual Bansot Rah-Rah Rat Pack, and vote for the right people to help bring back the rule of law. Time to kick out the likes of Joe de Venecia, Nograles, Lagman, the Midget’s son and brother-in-law, et al.

  69. Anin Anin

There is a presence so diabolic in our midst that has caused so much divisiveness and strife. Even public and private institutions have fallen prey to it. See how rotten the bureaucracy has become and even the justice system is shot. Their pathetic byword is merely SURVIVAL.

Since gma has acknowledged that she was the cause of divisiveness before Rizal’s grave many years ago, the first order of the day is for her to go…..impeachment or not.

  70. Gloria Arroyo was in Clark today and she said:”Only God can judge whether I am good or bad.”

That means, tayong mamamayang Pilipino ay walang karapatan. She thinks she is God’s favored creature.

  71. The CBCP has turned its back on the democratic and legal process to kick the pandak out of office, does this mean we have to oust Gloria “The Dreamer” through violent means? Aba, inciting to rebellion yan. Ayaw ni gonzalez niyan.

  72. jorgie jorgie

Ellen, I’m glad you’re now okay. God helped you so that you could continue your fight for truth and justice through your profession as a journalist. You’ve become one of the most popular columnists today. Keep up the good work.

I think the midget is in Libya…for what reason we don’t know. She’s doing ala-Imelda. If she thinks Kaddafy would fall for her, she’s wrong. Baka gawing katulong na lang siya doon.

Yes, that’s the problem with bansot. She keeps invoking God’s name. Now that the people have judged her as the worst president the country ever had, she now uses God’s name. Aren’t she using His name everytime she’s in trouble or wants to lie? When she announced she was not running for re-election, she said God told her not to run (that was mentioned in the media then). And when she changed her mind and decided to run, she again said God told her to run.
Gosh, she’s like saying God can lie like her!

Palace gave ‘victory’ dinner for bishops – CBCP source

Tags religious affairs usec as host

    By Christian V. Esguerra
    Inquirer
Last updated 01:38am (Mla time) 07/14/2006

MALACAÑANG arranged what appeared to be a victory dinner for prelates sympathetic to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) decided to stay away from fresh efforts to impeach her, the Inquirer learned yesterday.

A CBCP source, who did not wish to be named for fear of compromising his position in the Church hierarchy, said the affair was arranged by Fatima “Nena” Valdes, undersecretary for religious affairs. The source described the dinner party as a “reward.”

The reported emergence of Valdes in the apparent Palace effort to influence the outcome of the CBCP plenary over the weekend appeared to contradict claims by pro-Arroyo congressmen that the reports were “the devil’s handiwork … meant to discredit not only the Palace but also the Church.”

The Inquirer attempted but failed to get a comment from Valdes, who holds office in Malacañang.

In the pastoral statement issued on Monday, the CBCP said it was “not inclined at the present moment to favor the impeachment process as a means of establishing the truth” on whether Ms Arroyo manipulated the 2004 vote. Critics have denounced the CBCP position as vague and ambivalent.

Valdes, together with a certain “Attorney Adriano” and their staff, was also behind the reported distribution of envelopes containing cash to bishops during their weeklong retreat and plenary.

Valdes signed the letter offering cheap rice and low-cost medicines to some of the poorest dioceses in the country incidentally headed by known anti-Arroyo bishops.

This letter, a copy of which was obtained by the Inquirer, was distributed to dioceses earlier this year.

The Inquirer source in the CBCP said Undersecretary Valdes had arranged the dinner on Sunday upon the conclusion of the bishops’ plenary at a restaurant near where they had met at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center on United Nations Avenue in Manila.

Inquirer sources earlier reported that Malacañang had offered relief aid for Church projects for the poor as they gathered in Manila for their weekend plenary and handed out envelopes to the bishops containing P15,000 to P30,000.

`Bribe for bishops despicable’ — rebels

    By Nonoy Espina
    INQ7.net
Last updated 11:25am (Mla time) 07/15/2006

COMMUNIST rebels weighed in with their own opinion on reports that
Malacañang allegedly offered gifts of money and other goodies to
Catholic bishops for them to back away from supporting current
impeachment efforts against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In a statement, Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) spokesman
Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal described the Palace’ alleged efforts
as “despicable” and a “big insult” to the prelates.

News reports said members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the
Philippines (CBCP) were offered cash, travel reimbursements and
livelihood projects, among others, before the prelates convened in
Manila for their 93rd plenary assembly last week.

After the CBCP issued a pastoral letter saying it was “not inclined”
to support the impeachment of Arroyo, the reports said Malacañang
then allegedly hosted a “victory” dinner for several bishops.

Malacañang has denied the reports but a number of bishops have
confirmed having been offered and rejecting money ostensibly “for the
    poor.”

In an Inquirer report, Dipolog Bishop Jose Manguiran confirmed an
incident when a Malacañang staffer slipped two cash-filled envelopes
into his hand at the Pope Piux XII Catholic Center in Manila where
    the CBCP held its assembly.

“They were trying to bribe the bishops … Garapal (Shameless),”
Manguiran was quoted as saying of the incident.

Rosal said the alleged bribe attempt showed Arroyo’s “insolence…in
assuming that everything that she wants can be bought with money,
that everyone has a price, and that all who can possibly say or do
anything not in her favor can be heaped with bundles of money for
them to either shut up or side with her.”

He said Arroyo’s alleged use of her President’s Social Fund as
a “pork barrel” to buy off bishops was no different from the she
has “been using the Priority Development Assistance Fund to bribe
    congressmen.”

Rosal also slammed the “utter hypocrisy of Malacañang’s gibberish
about the separation of then state,” claiming Arroyo “has always been
trying to inveigle the bishops to serve her politics and her
government, to the extent of bribing them.”

“But when she cannot get what she wants from them, she sermonizes
about the separation of church and state,” he said.

***If I were the rebels, I will kill those bishops who received
    bribes!

  76. jughead jughead

But of course the house majority will have to stop the impeachment process otherwise kung ma impeach si GMA sabit silang lahat kc halos lahat sa mga pro GMA na congressmen ay are in deep shit as the president. So i urge the people that come next election on 2007 dapat matalo ang lahat ng ka alyado ni GMA only then maka proceed ang impeachment.
