Let’s be entertained

While Juris Soliman, chief of staff of Mike- Arroyo, was telling media that her boss and wife, Gloria, are lovey-dovey celebrating their 38th wedding anniversary last Wednesday, the combative Tulfo brothers – Ramon, Raffy, and Erwin – said in press conference that the woman Mike was romantically linked to is engaged in smuggling activities.

Mon , the eldest of the three who writes a column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, said that his exposés on the alleged smuggling activities of Vicky Toh and her brother, Tom, had the blessings of Gloria Arroyo.

This is fun.

In the past few months, Mon, who used to defend Mike Arroyo to high heavens, has been writing about has been talked about in coffee shops, which are the alleged illegal activities of the Tohs in the Bureau of Customs.

It will be recalled that the picture of Vicky Toh and Mike Arroyo, in a warm embrace against the backdrop of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, came out in newspapers when Sen. Panfilo Lacson exposed the Jose Pidal accounts of Mike and his brother, Iggy.

Tulfo said that the Tohs are virtually “untouchable” at the Bureau of Customs because they are protected by the First Gentleman.

The Tulfo brothers are fuming because their show titled “Isumbong Mo, Tulfo Brothers” over the sequestered RPN Channel 9 was cancelled allegedly upon orders of Mike.

Arroyo’s lawyer, Jesus Santos, denied that his client had anything to do with the cancellation of the Tulfos’ show. He dismissed the allegations about Mike Arroyo’s connection with the Tohs as “rehashed and malicious lies”. He said they will sue the Tulfos for libel next week.

It is well-known in media circles that Mon Tulfo was a very close friend of Mike Arroyo. The question in many people’s minds is: What could have been the cause of their parting of ways?

There are also those who are wondering if there was a problem in the division of the spoils.

We are not actually surprised about this. The Arroyos’ continued stay in Malacañang is owed to a number of dubious characters that performed the stealing of public funds, rigging elections results, and suppression of dissent.

As UP professor Randy David said, “Gloria (has) accumulated enough political debts that she would likely need another lifetime to repay all of them. Today, the situation is such that the greatest threat to her remaining in power comes not from her political opponents, but from the very same people who have an intimate knowledge of what she did to become president. I do not think these people have been repaid, or if they have, it is likely that not all of them are happy with what they got.”

Sources tell us that even before former Agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc Joc” Bolante was arrested by US immigration authorities, he was already complaining to Mike that he was tired of living a fugitive’s life. He is now under detention and we can imagine that he is expecting Arroyo to get him out. If not, he might think of singing about how the P728 million fertilizer fund for farmers was used to fertilize the votes of Arroyo instead in the 2004 elections.

There were also reports that former Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano was upset that Arroyo was not acting on his recommendations to appoint some of his protégés in key Comelec positions. He reportedly threatened to hold a press conference to reveal what he knows, prompting Mike to travel to Cagayan de Oro last June to appease the sulking Garcillano.

The Arroyos also have to appease all the time the military officers who helped rig the 2004 election results. There may have been cases when to satisfy one person’s demand, she would have to displease another to whom she is also indebted. That’s where complications arise. Someone is bound to spill the beans someday. That would require a lot of brandy to put her to sleep.

What intrigued me most was Tulfo’s statement that it was Gloria Arroyo who gave him the go-signal to expose the Tohs’ alleged smuggling activities. Is Gloria Arroyo undermining her beloved husband?

But Juris said Gloria and Mike are sweet as ever as a couple. In fact, Juris said, Mike gave his wife his usual wedding anniversary gift of one dozen roses – 11 red and one white. They also had a private family dinner outside Malacañang.

“Basta family events – birthdays, anniversaries – they celebrate together. For example, Sundays, they go to mass together, they eat lunch together. They’re always together,” Juris said.

Is Tulfo’s expose the handiwork of a woman scorned?

Let’s sit back, relax and watch Gloria and Mike Arroyo and their friends destroy each other. This is good entertainment.

    You’re so right on the button. Something’s got to give. All those favors given has got to be rewarded. But she can’t do it all at the same time to the multitudes of Garcified and Bolantified mobs she owes favors to, including all those SONA circus chimps. They ain’t gonna be satisfied with just a few bananas and a pat on the head in one lousy circus show. The kettle has got to boil over. The yarn is now beginning to unravel.

    And what’s with this woman?

    The whole world has been rocked by the chaos in Lebanon for weeks. The whole Filipino nation has been on edge for our OFW’s and the plight they’re in. The OFW evacuation and the OWWA funds have been the focal news issue for weeks. And Gloria has been very very suspiciously quiet all that time, letting only her subalterns do the talking and taking the brunt of the criticisms.

    After weeks of silence, all of a sudden she comes out of her foxhole – and appeals to all OFW’s to now evacuate. She has the funds daw. Ngayon lang?

    And such good timing. She comes out only on the day before the House committee approved a “standby fund” for the OFW evacuation. Did she have prior knowledge that this would be approved? Bet your Pacquiao five pesos, she did.

    But what about the OWWA funds? This still hasn’t been explained. Still scrambling to replace the missing funds? Or siguro tapos na ang switcheroo?

    And still on good timing, her appeal to evacuate comes when the prospect of a ceasefire is at hand…any day now. Machiavellian mind, indeed.

    This may be it. All Mon Tulfo has to do is to reconcile with Ping Lacson then once there’s support from the opposition, Tulfo could be another Singson. Then, another People’s Power. That’s the only way. Impeachment will not prosper. It’s a number’s game. Gloria will not resign. Her face is as thick as the Great Wall of China. Gloria is not dying yet. She’s a lot younger than Fidel Castro…unless some brave suicide bomber does it. So, People Power which was made legal in Edsa One and Two is still legal today. Let’s all prepare for this great event. But first thing first, Mon Tulfo has to do a Singson. Will he? That’s a million peso question. As I write this, negotiation is going on to bring him back to the Mob boss’s good graces.

    i don’t think that will happen… tulfo reconciling with lacson. malabo na yata yon. but hopefully, with or without the reconcilliation he would still tell all what he knows about his mob bosses.

    about the negotiation with the arroyos, i also doubt that they could get tulfo back to their fold. knowing tulfo, pag nagbitaw na ng salita yon di na niya kayang bawiin pa.

    Mike, you got a very good point. But Mon is not a saint. He has and is still with people with questionable characters. Money talks and if money does the talking, who’s Mon to say no. That’s the only way he can get back his Marines security and lucrative career as a feared (?) journalist.

    As I read the topic of this post “Let’s be entertained”, I’m not a bit entertained. I will only be entertained when GMA is dead.

She’s at the mercy of the Generals, crooks like Singson, the church and other influential religious groups (at least two of these) and Uncle Sam.

  17. A reliable source in Ping lacson’s camp told me last June Ramon tulfo sent feelers to Ping offering to spill the beans on Mike. Ping didn’t entertain it. He has bad experience with Tulfo.

    That was what Satur Ocampo also said, that Marcos was a saint compared to the Pandak, not that he was trying to be nice to me when I told him about my Mom’s connection with the late president.

    He was telling in fact a group of Filipinos and Japanese about the number of people already killed between 2001 and 2004 when he visited Japan.

    BTW, we are organizing a forum on the 20th of this month and a picket near the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo with the Amnesty International and Friends of the Earth organization to protest against the rampant killings of human rightists and professionals critical of this illegitimate regime. The place is at the Roppongi Crossing from 10 a.m. in the morning.

    We have asked for police protection as a matter of fact just in case the Pandak sends provocateurs as she usually to disperse peaceful demonstrations.

    One thing I would not do is back up someone spurned like these Tulfos. I won’t even wish they would spill the beans. I’d rather say, “Buti nga sa inyo!”

    Once a crook, always a crook unless one has seen the light and sincerely repents, but in the case of these Tulfos, they are simply sulking because of the removal of their privileges for some reason. First, tinanggalan ng guwardiya, then inalisan ng programa kaya umalma!

    Another one I know who is presently provided guards from the Philippine Military (Hindi ko lang alam kung mga marines) is Oliver Lozano. I could not believe it myself when he was rumored to be the ploy of the Malacanang Squatters although I wondered who provided him with those soldiers from the AFP that my sister told me about when she saw Lozano during a visit to Manila prior to the Impeachment.

    THE Federal Government has said it will investigate claims that hundreds of South-East Asian suicide bombers are on a mission to attack Jewish interests in countries including Australia.

    The radical Jakarta-based Asian Muslim Youth Movement gave The Australian details of the plot yesterday, claiming it was being funded in part with cash donations from two unnamed Australian-Indonesian businessmen.

    The leader of the AMYM, Islamist author Suaib Bidu, warned that thousands more jihadis were preparing to join the resistance against Israel and die as”martyrs”.

    Mr Bidu said a “passing-out” ceremony for more than 3000 jihadis would be held tomorrow in the Indonesian city of Pontianak on the large northern island of Kalimantan.

    But only about 200 would be sent immediately to targets aboard, with the remainder being active supporters.

    Mr Bidu warned that his group would “monitor” the position of Australia towards Israel’s current military operation in southern Lebanon, and that it too could become a target for suicide attacks.

    “We have a lot of support, including in Australia, from people who don’t believe Israel’s attack (on Hezbollah) is just,” Mr Bidu said.

     

    Probe

    Human Services Minister Joe Hockey today said the Government was taking the claims seriously.

    “The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Department of Foreign Affairs are investigating what is reported in the papers today and we are treating it very, very seriously,” Mr Hockey said on Channel Seven Network.

    But Australia had been a terror target for some time, he said.

    “That has no impact in so far as these people have targeted us for a long period of time,” Mr Hockey said.

    “You only need to look at Bali and that was before any major escalation of the conflict in Lebanon and Israel. We are a target, we always have been a target and we will be for a very long period of time.”

    Opposition Foreign Affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd said the threat was a new one that warranted concern.

    “This has sprung up without earlier evidence of action between the (Australian and Indonesian) governments,” he said.

     
    Threat

    Terrorism experts have warned that the AMYM had the motivation and the backing to organise such a campaign of terror. One of the foremost scholars in militant Islam, Zachary Abuza, described the group as a dangerous threat.

    “These people are willing to martyr themselves and that just feeds on itself,” Dr Abuza told The Australian. “Events like this (the Lebanon conflict) are superb tools for recruiting and indoctrinating people.”

    He said the group had been active in South-East Asia before and said Israeli sites in the region could be targeted.

    Dr Abuza said the move could also have far-reaching ramifications because it gave the South-East Asian militants the ability to network with jihadis in the Middle East.

    Last night, Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi said there were fears a “new wave” of terrorists could be generated by the Israeli offensive in Lebanon.

    “Muslims are angry even in moderate Muslim countries,” said Mr Abdullah, who hosted an emergency meeting of the 57 nations of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

    South-East Asian terrorism expert Rohan Gunaratna said the jihadis could quickly develop the capability to carry out their plan in so-called third-country attacks.

     
    Fear

    Although he said the numbers of recruits were probably being exaggerated to “provoke fear and anxiety”, the group should not be underestimated.

    Dr Gunaratna said the AMYM had sent fighters to Iraq in the past, albeit in small numbers.

    The group has already sent 217 suicide bombers, including 72 Indonesians as well as citizens of six other South-East Asian nations, to Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, Mr Bidu said.

    Mr Bidu said they were on a mission to infiltrate Israel and its allies “with the help of friendly networks”.

    “They will be charged with destroying infrastructure targets of Israel and its supporters, such as Britain and the US,” he said.

    The move comes as another group of fighters from a separate body known as the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) announced it had 200,000 members ready to join the battlefield in southern Lebanon.

    “When we apply for passports we say we are going to Singapore or to Mecca, so that we can fulfil our true aims,” FPI spokesman Habib Hasan al-Jufrie said.

    He said the FPI held military training courses “at secret locations” every two weeks. The FPI is thought to be involved in gangster activity and extortion and protection rackets in Jakarta.

    The AMYM and FPI have been blatant in their past condemnation of the US and its Middle Eastern policies. The AMYM has allegedly previously threatened to attack US interests in Indonesia and has sent fighters to the conflicts in Bosnia and Chechnya.

    About 40 per cent of the AMYM recruits have military experience in countries including Afghanistan, Thailand, The Philippines, the Palestinian Territories and Iraq. Those with field experience have learned how to make bombs for suicide attacks.

    Mr Bidu said the fighters from his movement would not travel to Lebanon “because we don’t want to face Israel from the front; we prefer to do it from behind”.

    A spokesman for the spiritual leader of Jemaah Islamiah, Abu Bakar Bashir, said the cleric “fully supports opposing through jihad”.

    This is really good entertainment and a thriller too. What could be the ending? Ang mga naunang scenes which serves as a trailer to tickle the audience seems promising. The plots, recados, and ingredients are familiar, only we have to have a lot of imagination to visualize how the characters act on their roles, at sana may ending na ang lalabas na mga bida ay mga Tulfos.
    Ang tanong ko lang sa aking sarili ay, Totoo na kaya ito? I hate to be the spoiler or be a KJ, but I have reasons to be skeptical. Maraming similar cases na ang nangyari where people came forward to make exposes and even volunteered themselves to be witnesses, but the next time you know, nag-somersault na at nagkaroon na ng amnesiya. Siguro nag-karoon lang ng kaunting problema sa kwento(ta)han, at pasasaan ba their happy days are there again..
    One more thing, I, personally have some reservations about the Tulfos. They have no right to be called journalist (if ever they were). Ang alam ko sa journalism profession (Ellen, pls. correct me if I am wrong) ay pagsusulat at nag-e-expose ng mga katotohanan who ever gets hurt in the process. Alam na pala nila na maraming illegal activities na nangyayari, kundi pa sila na-agrabiyado, hindi pa sila mag-ngangawa, at tahimik lang silang nagbibilang ng kanilang mga biyaya.. Anong credibility mayroon ngayon sila. Kung katotohanan nga ang ginagawa nilang expose, it’s just a way to get back sa nang-abrabiyado sa kanila, hindi sa dahilang tapat sila sa kanilang profession as journalists. A true journalist ay walang master na kinikilala kundi ang sarili, to stand up and fight for their principles, beliefs and for the common good, hindi tulad nila na may amo na sinusunod at ginagawang negosyo ang kanilang pagiging journalist. As I said, gusto ko ring makita na magkaroon ito ng ending na ang mga hero ay itong mga magkakapatid. At kapag nangyari iyon, sa sino mang makabasa nito, just forget that this comment ever existed. I stand to be corrected and willing to take back my words.

All the teacher(they requested for donation of gas lanterns)were asking for so that the school children can read their lessons at night. it took the reporting team almost 3.5 hours by roough road and several river crossings to reach the desolated place. and the kids? they have to endure walking several hours of crossing rivers and rough terrain to reach a make-shift school. Saludo ako sa sa mga teacher na pwede silang mag-abroad pero “kawawa naman ang mga batang ito. sino pa ang aasahan nila para matuto sila kahit paano”…how sad the plight of our country…7,101 or so islands and almost 60% have not even have the taste of electricity!!!! this is entertainment news for the palace…pwe!!!!!

Wouldn’t it be more practical and more convenient for her to Stay in Malacanang and just call for the best doctors to go and see her instead?     Former congressman, 3 others hurt in Makati road mishap

    Former Pangasinan Congressman Ranjit Shahani and three others were injured in a road accident in Makati City Thursday night.

    Shahani, the son of former senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani and a nephew of ex-president Fidel V. Ramos, was driving on Metropolitan Avenue in Bel-Air when his car rammed an approaching L-300 van while overtaking a taxi cab.

    The three passengers of the van were also injured in the collision.

    Shahani was rushed to Ospital ng Makati for cuts on his cheeks and parts of his head.

    We are lobbying for Japan likewise to stop the ODA to the Pidal government until she is gone! And we are doing this with the help of some concerned and prominent Japanese citizens.

    Ambassador Rigoberto Tiglao said Ecoy’s employers, who hold Australian passports, immediately flew to Australia and left her on her own in the port of Larnaca, Cyprus.

    Tiglao said embassy officials immediately organized Ecoy’s repatriation, with the assistance of OWWA representatives in Athens.

    Ecoy was scheduled to arrive in Manila yesterday on board a Gulf Air flight.

    FEWER than half of young Australians believe in God, but a growing number are turning towards tarot readers and psychics for answers.

    A new study has revealed less than 50 per cent of Australia’s Generation Y identify with a traditional religion, while tarot readers and psychics are riding the wave of youth demand.
    A large number of Victorian parents are now hiring professional card readers and fortune tellers to appear at their children’s 18th and 21st birthday parties.

    The Spirit of Generation Y by Monash and Australian Catholic Universities and the Christian Research Association, revealed most young Australians classify their spirituality as humanist or eclectic, and many are happy to dabble in alternative spiritual practices.

    Melbourne-based psychic Jacquelene Close Moore said rising demand led to her conducting many teenage party readings in the past year.

    “I have also been at 21sts where I have had more than 100 people line up,” Ms Close Moore said.

    Most young people are looking for advice on careers, relationships and spirituality, she said.

    “They don’t follow religious beliefs just because their parents do,” Ms Close Moore said.

    Teenagers must be at least 18 years old to see a psychic.

    President of the Tarot Guild of Australia Linda Marson said card-reading had become very popular among teenagers.

    “It is great young people are wanting to get in touch with their spirituality, whichever way they do it,” Ms Marson said.

    Released yesterday, the study of 1272 young people also revealed only one in five young Catholics attend mass at least once a month.
