Arroyo’s jet prevents plane running low on fuel from landing

This is what happens when everybody is programmed to bow to the emperor all the time:

By Nikko Dizon

MANILA–Which should be given priority on the runway? A Lear jet taking off with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on board or an incoming long haul Airbus 340 ferrying 231 passengers that is running low on fuel?

This was the question posed by an official of the Airline Operators Council (AOC) after a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain was reportedly denied landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) because Arroyo was using the runway for her flight to Davao City on Wednesday to stand as a wedding sponsor.

The AOC is also complaining about long queues at the departure immigration counters and a defective baggage facility that have delayed outbound flights.

“Even if the President’s plane was already taxiing but the pilot (of the other aircraft) declared he was low on fuel, the latter should have been allowed to land,” Leoncio Nakpil, AOC chairman and Gulf Air security chief in Manila, told reporters.

It is, by all intents and purposes, already considered a “distress call” for an emergency landing, Nakpil said.

Nakpil said the Air Transportation Office (ATO) should explain why flight GF 154 was not allowed to land. It was also told that it was sixth in line for landing. (The Philippine Daily Inquirer tried but failed to reach ATO chief, Nilo Jatico, for comment on Sunday.

The pilot then decided to divert Flight GF 154 to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) at Clark Field in Pampanga. At this point, Nakpil said, GF 154 technically became a “missing plane” for 15 minutes, the time wherein the aircraft was repositioning for landing at the DMIA.

“I thought it was only delayed because of the presidential movement, until [retired] Gen. [Ange]) Atutubo [airport security chief] called me up asking where GF 154 was,” Nakpil said.

Soon after, Nakpil said, Gulf Air Manila received an “operations flash” from its headquarters in Bahrain that GF 154 had “diverted to the DMIA due to a presidential movement.” (An aircraft is equipped with a device that sends a signal to its headquarters on its location, Nakpil explained.)

“There was confusion. Nobody told us that the aircraft had diverted to Clark. Not even the MIAA (Manila International Airport Authority) knew the flight was diverted,” Nakpil said.

“It was tantamount to endangering the lives of all the passengers and crew. What if the plane lost fuel and crashed?” an irate Nakpil said.

“The pilot said the air traffic controller was actually very accommodating. But somewhere, somehow, his request was suddenly denied supposedly because the runway was closed for President Arroyo’s flight,” Nakpil said.

Arroyo left Wednesday afternoon on board the Lear jet for Davao to stand as one of the principal sponsors in the wedding of the son of House Majority Leader Prospero Nograles.

Landing at the DMIA for refueling and going back to the NAIA entailed Gulf Air having to file a new flight plan and also pay for landing fees, among other things to be done.

For protocol and security reasons, the NAIA runways are closed when there the President is arriving or leaving by air.

But Nakpil stressed that international aviation rules dictate that regardless of whether there is a VIP movement, emergency situations are also given priority.

“An aircraft running low on fuel is considered an emergency situation,” he said.

The airport runway is under the ATO’s jurisdiction.

Nevertheless, an MIAA official said the airport authority was investigating the incident.

Nakpil said that ideally, the presidential flight should have given way to the distressed aircraft.

Hehehehehehehe………….. the leprechaun’s people are willing to sacrifice the lives of many people rather that her’s even if her plane has not yet taken-off. The same situation applies to all Filipinos, she is welling to sacrifice the lives of all Filipino’s for her sake and her hoods sake. That is the sorry state of us Filipinos.

She will do everything to survive.

This fake president’s priority is her own, nothing but her own self. She is the number threat to people’s lives. She’s so desperate to win that a mere wedding almost cost human lives. Damn her!

This stupidy and arrogance of Glueria should be picked up by the international wires. Ibang klaseng news ito sa totoo lang!

Simply shows that anyone’s safety is not that important compares to some politicians, that everyone so scared to displease the Empress even to the extent of jeopardizing the safety of traveling public.
And that is unacceptable. Safety Issues knows no Kings and Queens in Modern Days, and Gloria is No Queen and not even Respected, or until Today her Legitimacy still in Question and even if she is the President, the safety of the Traveling Public should have priority over her delayed flight. This issue should not relegated to the back burner, but investigated, otherwise, who would like to fly down to the country when every time the President takes off for some weeding or baptismal to attend, the aircraft passengers are putting their lives into God’s hands.

  5. chi chi

    Oopps..number one threat..

I agree with prans’ allegory. This is typical of Arroyo and her supporters’ lack of empathy towards the majority’s situation. The passengers of the lear jet, Arroyo and her privileged minority, are given priority while the passengers of the fuel-starved Airbus are left to their own devices.

this incident should merit outrage and protest from the international community. malapit nang bumagsak ang bruha. there’s no turning point and redemption left for the evil one. siya na mismo ang naglalagay ng lubid pambigti sa sarili niya. despicable, horrible!

  9. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Since the Despicable One has started to endanger lives and causing havoc in the airline industry by her domestic jet-setting ways, I think it’s time for her to stay put in her fortress by the Pasig and just enjoy the smell and sights of the murky river.

Imagine spending thousands upon thousands of taxpayers’ money just to attend a Nograles wedding. How many more weddings this year are on her schedule?

  10. Spartan Spartan

In fairness kay gloria on this incident, maaaring hindi naman niya alam ang sitwasyon that time.

  12. vic vic

In our place of work, if safety is the issue, not even the copmpany ceo can tell an emlpoyee to do things he or she believes unsafe, and that is true to all politicians, even the Queen, I mean the real Queen.

  13. Tiago Tiago

    Agree ako sa iyo, Vic.
Unfortunately, not very true in the Philippines. Nakakalungkot…

  14. No, Spartan, the Great Switik, is capable of this blunder, lack of propriety and lack of concern for the welfare of others because she can think of only her own vain ego.

Blame her parents, maybe, for spoiling her. This reminds me in fact of a story related by a columnist who told of how this spoiled brat would go on a tantrum when she was a kid when she could not get what she wanted, and the parents would go frantic trying to pacify her. I understand she does it still!

Ganoon katupak ang ulo niyan according to people who know her very well.

  15. mandirigma mandirigma

I’ve initially posted the above topic in another thread. But thanks for posting it here again. It would be best if the news is played in foreing media. That incident clearly manifested Arroyo’s selfishness. All she cares is about herself and her throne.

  16. Para sa Kanto Mama Para sa Kanto Mama

I’m lost on how ATO conducts it’s business, and how they define emergency situations. Telling the Airbus pilot it was sixth in the line for landing only means the the “distress call” was considered a joke. Fear of royal reprisal they would say – well, that’s not a joke.

  17. Mrivera Mrivera

  19. Mrivera Mrivera

    … pakpak ng kanyang sinasakyan…….

    …siguradong sasabog pati….

  20. “For protocol and security reasons, the NAIA runways are closed when there the President is arriving or leaving by air.”

    How primitive!

  21. Spartan,

Re “In fairness kay gloria on this incident, maaaring hindi naman niya alam ang sitwasyon that time.”

This now warrants an apology from Gloria, don’t you think?

She should go on TV and pronounce “I’m sorry” again.

  22. You bet, Anna, but primitive is not the word apt to be used for this. It is plain and simple abuse.

PM Abe, for example, do not go around Tokyo escorted except for a guard or two when attending affairs of personal nature that they often avoid when they are serving a high position in the land.

I meet a lot of our lawmakers in fact on the train when they commute to work because of parking problem, and gas for personal cars are not paid for by the Diet to avoid public scrutiny.

If that is not abuse, what is? Pakapalan pa ng mukha! No, the switik does not deserve any fairness considering the fact that she has not been voted by the people at all, and she became president only by grabbing, cheating, and worse, trampling upon the Constitution to be president. And she is not removed from office because those who can do not do something about it, (1) because they are part and parcel of the deception and gain financially and enormously for retaining her in office, (2) afraid to get at a disadvantage as those Oppositionists who boycotted the Impeachment for instance, (3) afraid to get killed as the victims of the extrajudicial killings, and worse (4) simple indifference because they think what happens in politics in the Philippines is not their problem as the indifferent OFWs I’ve met in Japan.

O ano, magha-hay-hay na lang ba tayo?

  23. mandirigma mandirigma

Sorry if I’m saying this: Sana sumabog na ang ang eroplano niya pero lahat ligtas maliban siya. O sana nahulog na lang siya. When there’s an emergency or distress call, protocol is set aside. She’s not flying to a very urgent meeting that involves national security. She was flying to attend a wedding somewhere in the South yata. Siguro ninang siya. So what? People’s lives are much more important than the wedding she was attending.

  24. Mrivera Mrivera

mandirigma Says: “She’s not flying to a very urgent meeting that involves national security.”

    I am sorry!

  28. Chabeli Chabeli

He he he. Nag papa-importante lang si Gloria. Wala kasi namamansin !

  29. chi chi

    Chabeli,

Wala nang namamansin ke Glueria? Masamang pangitain ‘yan! Heheh.

  30. Spartan Spartan

anna, if indeed gloria was not aware at that time that her private flight was causing a serious problem, and by now she would have learned about it, yes she should start going on TV not only on the national networks, but also in the international, and show her FAMAS award dramatic acting of “I’m sorry”. But knowing her mentality, she would surely just shrug it off her shoulder, thinking no harm’s done on those passengers. Although lives were at stake in that incident, it’s a good example of gloria’s bad attitudes that could be exposed and attract attentions outside the Philippines.

  31. artsee artsee

Mang Rivera, binabantayan ka kamo ng IT personnel? Bakit IT hindi ET? Siguro kamag-anak ni Ate Ellen iyong IT ano?

  32. Spartan, Gloria is truly her mother’s daughter and the worse thing is Gloria’s perfected the art of being BASTOS!

  33. Spartan Spartan

  35. Spartan Spartan

and anna, yes on what you said. Remember the incident that Ma’m Ellen just told us here, during the taping of their show with Maan Hontiveros on ANC? Plus, that pagsesermon that she did with a GMA reporter that was caught on hidden video during her visit in Mindoro a few years back, if I remember it right, it was even before the 2004 Presidential Election. Tapos, ang nakakatawa sa kaniya, nag-guest siya sa radio show ni Mike “Ehehem Excuse Me Po!”

  37. Spartan, it’s Pia Hontiveros, who is the host of Strictly Politics. Not Maan. They are cousins.
