While the United Opposition is looking for a name that will truly describe the grand coalition that they are now, San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito has accepted the role of campaign manager for the senatorial slate.
Opposition sources said, former Senate President Enesto Maceda will take the tougher job of assembling the local line-up for the opposition.
The opposition senatorial ticket is “a grand coalition of people from all sectors— women, the youth, the political sector and civil society,” grand coalition spokesman Adel Tamano said.
Lito Banayo, who had been speaking for UNO, will be running for representative of Manila (Ermita distict).
JV, who will also be running for re-election in San Juan, said he was chosen as campaign manager for the senatorial ticket because he has already laid down a nationwide campaign structure, for his aborted senatorial candidacy. JV withdrew in favor of Sonia Roco of Aksyon Demokratiko.
Makati Mayor Jojo Binay, who will also be running for re-lection against Mike Arroyo’s stooge, Lito Lapid, will continue to be president of the Grand Coalition.
JV said the opposition senatorial ticket stands for good governance, honesty and integrity.
Meanwhile, the Unity team of the Arroyo administration has chosen former Estrada buddy Reli German as campaign manager and former Estrada press undersecretary Mike Toledo as spokesman.
It was not clear whether Toledo would be taking a leave from his lucrative position as the president and chief executive officer of the Philippine office of Weber-Shandwick, one of the world’s largest public relations firms.

This is one of her ways of demolishing the credibility of Erap. Kaso, she’s the one with a BIGGER credibility problem. Erap wasn’t a political prostitute, she certainly is ! Sa totoo lang, Ellen, after reading some notes on the Congressional proceedings when the grandfather of this Raffy was active in Congress, I could not help but raise an eyebrow kasi wala namang ginawa kundi magdebate lang! In fact, even then, marami nang nakawan. Negotiations pa lang for the Japan-Phiippine Treaty, sa totoo lang naubos na ang mga advanced payment ng Hapon kaya sa totoo lang when Marcos became president, wala namang gaanong pera ang Pilipinas, at saka puro utang pa! Tapos iyong full payment ng Japan for war reparations, inubos din ng mga magnanakaw especially when they found out that their loots would not be conspicuous with the bigger fishes doing the greater lootings of public funds.

I have nothing against people with no higher education aiming to be a Congressman, a Senator or even a President, but the problem is how competent can someone like Manny be when he allows himself to be used and not use his head to stay away from crooks who are definitely trying to hoodwink him!
How can he even participate fruitfully in a drafting of a law when he himself engages in activities that in other countries in fact are considered illegal as when he does these gambling that can corrupt people? Golly, ang labas niya parang si Sonny Jaworski noon who would receive packages with suhol to pass a law (kuno) to protect the person who reportedly paid him to do so. Where I come from they ask a group of lawyers to study the possibility of a law that can be passed with the aim of keeping things in order and according to rules! Regarding your post about JV Ejercito’s wealth and a fleet of pricely cars, this is what I know.
Before entering politics, he’s already a successful businessman. Of course, we could say it’s because of Erap but we also know that Erap was not only an actor who amassed wealth but also a businessman in his own right and put his money in good investments. If you will recall, at the height of Erap’s impeachment, mga 8 to 10 firms ang pinatatakbo ni Guia Gomez at JV ang inilabas bilang ebidensiya laban kay Erap na sinasabing bahagi ng ng nakaw na yaman. It appeared that those companies have been established with hard earned money of Erap and have been operating long before Erap became President. They are existing up to now.
JV’s wealth and the rest of Erap’s siblings are not unknown to the San Juan electorate. I think media practitioners can attest to this but still, some doubting thomases will cling to the idea that JVs wealth might be ill-gotten. It’s election time and everything will be put to question.
All I know is that Guia Gomez is an excellent businesswoman. Of course, as Joeseg said, it is quite possible that Erap’s being in politics helped a great deal.
But I do know that JV is not a rascal in the same sense as Mikey Lil Fatso Arroyo.
He is better well brought up.
Erap has another daughter (half sister to both JV and Jinggoy), well brought up too, quite brainy matter of fact.
If only Erap could make ALL his children, legitimate and not, work together, they could achieve something worthwhile.

I knew a Pangilinan from Bulacan once (don’t know if he’s related to Mr Cuneta) who used to drive a Corvett, a Mustand and the latest car but found out later that he didn’t even own the house he lived in.

But the biggest collector of cars I ever met was the former Gen Manager of the Internatinal Airport (Manila but can’t remember his name, he died a couple of years ago). Boy, that guy had a bentley, a rolls royce, all vintage etc, etc.
The other one who would put his money in cars is the half-brother of Joe de Venecia (can’t remember his name either). This half brother of Joe used to work and use his name and had this addiction for cars that he used to put all his money to the detriment of his kids into cars. The guy was former partner of the sister of Bill Ruiz of Namfrel fame.
They dealt in defence items, hehehe! Yep, procurement for the DND.
Anyway, in Pinas, anyone who is SOMEONE or wants to be SEEN SOMEPLACE, wants to own either a BMW or a Mercedez Benz.
Frankly, look bit vulgar in the end. My own butcher drives a Mercedez as lots of taxi drivers here, hehehe! While real estate agents prefer a BMW.

By the way, Joeseg, I used to ride a carabao too; I had one whom I called Cimaron, left him in Mang Pepe’s care; got him then for a measly 1,000 Pesos too.
My first vehicle was a Willy’s jeep that my dad bought for me (my Mom almost died of worry) because I thought it looked much more COOL and I painted it pink. Went to parties in Manila in it as a young girl.

Katawatawa really. A brother-in-law in CA spent his honeymoon with us in Denmark in the late 90’s. We brought him and wife to Vienna. Ang hilig din sa Chedeng and BMW!
Hubby played a joke on him by showing him latest edition of Chedengs parked, ready to take in customers. Taxis lang daw pala ang mga Mercedes sa Europe. So disappointed, he sold his Chedeng ang cought a Camry instead.

The thing is most taxi drivers here own their taxis too.
It’s a real one-man business here driving taxis. A French friend of mine who used to be a military officer, believe it or not, when he retired bought a Mercedez and a taxi license after retirement (which, by the way is issued by government here – nobody can just drive taxis here or own taxi firms without passing a govt exam). He bought the taxi license for 150,000 Euros or almost 200,000 US$. That same license now, he reckons can be sold (via govt agency) for 250,000 Euros.
My American friends who came last October were so surprised coz they didn’t realize that driving a hack in Paris requires a huge capital. Heh!

Airport workers press MIAA to pay benefits due
them since 1995
MANILA, Philippines – Airport workers held
prayer-protest rally outside the Manila
International Airport Authority on Wednesday to
demand benefits that have been due them since
1995.
The workers, members of the Samahan ng
Manggagawa ng Paliparan ng Pilipinas (SMPP),
lifted their hands in front of the MIAA
administration building to pray over and
“exorcise” the bad spirits who were blocking the
payment of their benefits.
MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi was able to
pay $10 million to Takenaka, contractor of the
controversial Ninoy Aquino International Airport
Terminal 3, according to Ceferino Lopez, SMPP
president. And yet he hasn’t paid his own
employees.
Cusi should explain why, Lopez said.
According to the workers, Cusi and Herminia
Castillo, assistant general manager for finance,
were reportedly tossing the blame on each other
on the failure to give the back pay since 1995,
along with allowances for rice and sugar and
other benefits.
The workers will the prayer rally every day and
wear red ribbons until have received their
benefits.
But Lopez said the protest would not affect the
everyday operations at the airport.
Cusi said he would listen to the grievances of the
employees and explain the legal problem of the
MIAA that caused the delay in the payment of the
