GO candidates scores dishonesty, corruption-trademark of Arroyo admin

Abs-cbn’s report of GO proclamation rally:

The proclamation rally of the Genuine Opposition at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila Saturday was dominated by anti-Arroyo speeches from its senatorial candidates as they brought back issues that have rocked President Arroyo’s six-year administration.

In its almost three-hour proclamation rally, the opposition candidates slammed President Arroyo for her policies such as the calibrated preemptive response, Proclamation 1017 and the Malacañang-backed Charter change.

They also assailed the President for alleged corruption such as the fertilizer scam, the reported electoral fraud that marred the 2004 presidential elections and the high incidence of extrajudicial killings in the country.

Francisco “Sonny” Rivera Jr., representative of detained former Lieutenant Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes IV, said the rebel soldier decided to run for senator in the May polls to put an end to corruption.

He, however, said that Trillanes believes that this will not be possible as long as President Arroyo remains in power.

“Binunyag [namin] sa Oakwood ang iba’t ibang katiwalian sa gobyerno at Armed Forces of the Philippines…nandiyan pa rin ang katiwalaan kung kaya’t nandiyan pa rin ang digmaan [sa Mindanao]. Kailangan nating tapusin ito (We bared during Oakwood [mutiny] the corruption in government and AFP… the corruption still exists that’s why there is still war [in Mindanao]. We have to finish this),” Rivera said reading from a statement from the detained former Navy officer.

Trillanes was one of the leaders of the short-lived Oakwood mutiny on July 27, 2003 and is facing coup-d’etat charges.

Rivera added that if Trillanes wins he will push for reforms focusing on anti-corruption, poverty alleviation, education and peace and order.

“Habang nakaupo si [Mrs. Arroyo] wala ni isa sa panukala nito ang matutupad dahil wala sa puso niya ang kapakanan ng mamamayan. Napatunayan [ito] sa anim na taon na paghihirap (There reforms will not be realized as long as Mrs. Arroyo remains in power because her heard is not with the welfare of the poor. This has been proven with six years of suffering under her administration),” Trillanes’s statement said.

Tarlac Rep. Benigno Aquino III and former senator John Osmeña asked the thousands of people who attended the rally to support GO’s quest for truth and its fight for democracy.

“Kami po kaya ay nag-iisa sa kagustuhan [namin na malaman] kung ano ang tama?… kayo na ang humusga kung sino ang nasa tama (Are we one in wanting to know what is right? … You will judge who is right),” Aquino said.

For his part, Osmeña said “Ang aking hiling ay tumayo ulit tayo sa panahong ito para ipaglaban natin ang demokrasya (My call is to have all of us to stand again and fight for democracy).”

Lawyer Aquilino Pimentel III challenged the Arroyo administration to explain why it came up with its own senatorial list when President Arroyo and her allies want to abolish the Senate.
Representatives Alan Peter Cayetano of Taguig-Pateros and Francis Escudero of Sorsogon also played down the economic achievements being boasted by President Arroyo.

Reforms

The opposition candidates are one in saying that if they are elected they will push for reforms that will address corruption in government, education and health services.

Sonia Roco, the widow of former senator Raul Roco, said that she will pursue the study-now-pay-later law and creation of more jobs, among others, if elected in the May 14 polls.

“Ipagpapatuloy [ko] ang laban ni dating senador Raul Roco. Ang paglilingkod, pagtuturo at pagmamahal sa pamilya, kabataan at bayan (I will continue the fight of the late senator Raul Roco, To serve, teach and love of family, the youth and the people),” she said.

Former senator Loren Legarda said that they will pass reforms that will focus on protecting the environment and providing livelihood to the people while former senator Anna Dominique Coseteng said she will back policies addressing illegal drugs and corruption.

Senate President Manuel Villar who had been adopted by GO as a guest candidate arrived around 7:15 p.m. In his speech, Villar said that he will fight for policies protecting the country’s democracy and freedom.

Re-electionist Sen. Panfilo Lacson, the last candidate to speak, said that he is espousing anti-corruption policies.

Carrying the theme “Let’s GO! Lumalaban, Naninidigan Para sa Bayan,” opposition senatorial aspirants, minus adopted candidate reelectionist Sen. Francis Pangilinan and detained former Navy officer Antonio Trillanes IV, were presented to opposition supporters at the proclamation rally.

An opposition source placed the crowd at 10,000.

Among opposition stalwarts seen at the proclamation rally were former vice president Teofisto Guingona; senators Franklin Drilon, Alfredo Lim, Luisa Ejercito Estrada, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada; Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, GO spokesman Adel Tamano and GO campaign manager San Juan Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito.

Also present were Makati City Rep. Agapito “Butz” Aquino, CIBAC Rep. Joel Villanueva, former Quezon City Mayor Ismael Mathay, Angelito Banayo and activist Renato Constantino Jr.
Ejercito, Rep. “Butz” Aquino and singer Pilita Corrales acted as masters of ceremonies as they introduced GO’s candidates. Corrales also rendered a musical number for the rally’s program.
Reelectionist senator Francis Pangilinan had also been adopted as a guest candidate by the coalition but he did not show up.

Estrada video

A video statement from former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada was also shown during the proclamation rally as he pushed for people’s support of the opposition’s senatorial slate in the May 14, 2007 elections.

“Sila po ang natatanging oposisyon, …. Hinihingi ko po ang inyong suporta (They are the real opposition .. I ask for your support),” Estrada said in the video shown to the 10,000 opposition supporters who attended the proclamation rally in Plaza Miranda at Quiapo, Manila.

In his statement, Estrada apparently took a swipe at the Arroyo administration by calling it “sakim na gobyerno (greedy government).”

The former President drew distinguishing lines between the administration and the opposition slates in May 14, 2007 elections as he listed the issues that should be considered.

He described the May elections as a people’s fight against rampant corruption, cheating and blatant lying; against prevalence of crime, extrajudicial killings and grave and violent violations of human rights; against continued trampling of the Constitution, dictatorship and against poverty.

Estrada also scored the “widespread feeling of hopelessness” among the people.
He asked the people to prevent the Senate from falling into the hands of the administration and instead “elect a Senate that will truly represent the welfare of our people and protect and preserve the interest of our democracy, our Constitution, the rule of law.”

Estrada described the opposition slate as “men and women of integrity … di sila maaaring bayaran, di sila papayag na suhulan at di nila ipagbibili ang inyong pagtitiwala, lalong di isasanla ang kanilang paninidigan at prinsipyo. (they will not be bought, will not be bribed, and they will not sell your trust and much more they will not pawn their beliefs and principles).”

Recalling the alleged widespread cheating of the 2004 Presidential elections, Estrada also called on the electorate to protect their votes “Huwag hayaang nakawin ang boto (let us not have your votes stolen).”

“An opposition source placed the crowd at 10,000.”

The crowd was more than what Team Unity was able to gather in Cebu.

  2. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Tama ka, Chabeli. Considering that the Cebu crowd was bused-in by Barangay Captains who even provided the T-shirts and packed food, with “allowances” to boot. The Cebu site’s capacity was placed at 5,000 and the official headcount reported was around 8,000.

    Sino’ng nagbilang, si Abalos?

  3. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

What else is new? HAKOT crowd charge to LGU account a.k.a. Countryside Development Fund (CDF). The issue in May elections is inept corrupt Gloria Arroyo.

  4. That’s a great way to kick off the election contest. Hammer Gloria and her cabal with the same issues, day in day out…

  5. Inquirer reported about a woman seen paying the hakots in Cebu. They wanted to interview her but she declined to be interviewed. I hope walang ipro-produce ang mga Pidals ng mga fake clips kuno nila of similar woman paying those who attended the UNO rally that ended peacefully.

Kaya sa mga Manileno, pakiboto si Senator Lim and Lito Banayo for Mayor and Vice-Mayor ng Manila and you will have a Manila like when Arsenio Lacson was its mayor. First thing that Mayor Lim should make sure to do is restore the glory of the Manila’s Finest, and remove those unsightly cargo containers on Mendiola going to the palace. He should have one of the Senators pass a law declaring the AFP PNP illegal in Manila for the Manila’s Finest to function well again!!!

Mabuhay ang United Opposition! May your tribe increase!

Ang GO ay hindi totoong Go yan…tingnan nyo after election babaliktad yang iba for their political survival.

Daily Tribune banner US bishop wants Congress to stop support for Gloria. This means trouble for Gloria Arroyo. Lame duck US President George W. Bush influence is waning in Democratic-controlled Congress. It’s about time to review US military aid to the Philippines by US Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Democratic Sen. Joseph Biden Jr. and ranking minority member Republican Sen. Richard Lugar. Indiana Sen. Lugar pressured then US President Ronald Reagan to force Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos to step down in 1986 Edsa Uprising.

  13. How’s this rally different from past rallies? 😀

Let’s GO! Lumalaban, Naninidigan Para sa Bayan

    Go where exactly?
    Lumaban for what exactly?
    Manindigan for which principle exactly?
“Bayan”? What exactly as the “bayan” knwon as “the Philippines” stand for?

Hirap sa atin e. Panay tingala sa mga slogans. But are we prepared to engage in the thinking required to build substance behind these slogans?

    .

    And check this out:

The issue in May elections is inept corrupt Gloria Arroyo

    Is that so?

So does that imply that other corrupt officials today, yesterday, and tomorrow are not as big an issue as this? Most of the corruption and dysfunction we see today transcend any single administration.

Looks like everyone here is dancing to the same old political tune played by the usual politicians.

In an election year like this, the big players of the television industry might ask themselves if they have not, wittingly or unwittingly, used their power of communication to idiotize the masses.

  17. Its not just the bloggers here, it’s the Internatioanl critics that will matter the most to the extra judicial killings of this evil woman and her supports, who from their comments in this blog are also in sever denial.

As reported today in the Daily Tribune, According to Bishop Toquero, because of the findings, the mission team vowed to dialog with their congressmen and senators in the US dealing with foreign affairs to look into the matter and to pressure their own government to stop supporting the Arroyo government as long as these killings are not resolved.

US President George Bush is a methodist, as are many Republicans.

The local bishop told the media that that American Methodist bishops vowed to tell all and share the stories of the Filipino people whose lives were violated and crushed. They will tell all and share the stories of the widows and orphans. They will tell all and share the stories of farmers and workers whose rights are trampled upon amid their struggle to survive and live a life with dignity. They will tell stories and share with their legislators the story of the church people, the lawyers, the journalists, and the human rights victims and tragets who live under constant threat as the government?s Oplan Bantay Laya is being implemented. They will bring these stories as their own to the different churches in the US and around the world,? narrated Toquero.

Bishop Shamana for her part sharply condemned the senseless killings after visiting the house of Tatay Daki, the latest Bayan Muna coordinator who was shot right inside his own house last February 8, 2007.
We live in a global community. Whatever happens here has an impact in our lives in the US, said Shamana. Shamana also visited Davao, Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro.

Appart from the Melo report, we have the Philip Alston report alongside other reports to the UN & EU, now this independent report from the International Methodist which will find its way to Presidents Bush’s desk. He can’t gnore it only if its because his party is a party of Methodist.

Lets face it not only is this evil woman and her supporters in denial but out of their depth and benign0 proves the point. Enough is Enough when May elections come lets do it!

Are you denying, that although Fake, this evil woman is the one who is able to call the tune right now, if she decided not to Lie, Cheat, Steal and not be silent to the extra judicial killings but speak out against them, but of course to do so she would pass GO, not pick up 200 and then straight to jail. Her supporters seem to have no shame; even though the whole country and its population is under the gaze of the disgusted International Community!

The Filipino has a vision to be a great nation. What, where, how, when, and why is up to the Filipino to decide . Apparently everything we do,nothing much is accomplished. I surmise that the above person is questioning about results or success.I have been reading his posts and I have to admit, this guy is awesomely brilliant.I would not even question his audacity and arrogance to capitalize his argument based on our failures.
One thing he forgot is this.
It takes 99 failures and only one success.Even if it takes 50 years or 500 years, failure is no longer a question. What does this imply? His own astute thinking has corrupted the very substance of who he really is; a Fu***in Filipino.

  21. None, not one of these senatorial candidates supported by this administration has ever mentioned extra judicial killings. All of these candidates now realise that to be aligned with this administration is their biggest liability. They are also in denial, their plastic smiles show it, no substance and no conviction.
Most civil society supporters that were around in 2001 of this evil woman have now abandoned her. Why! because they all now realise they were conned and conning each other at that time to support her.
The people who bang on that the people who assistend in ousting Erap are now alongside him, only show that is proof enough. It also takes a good man who can forgive their stupidly in sending him to jail for six years and still counting. Not only does he forgive but he embraces their senatorial candidacy.

That does not mean that the building was not a meaningful construction, its just that its easier to demolish it.

Is that so benignO? Are you blind or suffering from selective amnesia? How about Unanao’s Team Unity campaign slogan “Together, Everyone Achieves More”? What achievement they are talking about? May be they can achieve more kurakotan if they work together. May 2007 midterm elections is a referendum of inept corrupt Gloria Arroyo regime. We are not discussing about corruption fifty years ago or so. We are focus on Gloria Arroyo’s six years in office. There are no resolution of corruption cases like the over-priced Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, NAIA Terminal 3 alleged bribery, IMPSA $14 M bribery deal, P728 M fertilizer fund scam and Hello Garci political scam. The Ombudsman and other government agencies mandated to investigate and persecute guilty parties are sleeping on their job and more likely following orders from Malacanang. None has been resolved and culprits are not prosecuted for their alleged crimes. Tell me benignO if these corruption cases are not relevant to six years inept corrupt Gloria Arroyo regime.

Purbida man gid!

    Hi Ellen,

Kamusta na and I am back again sa Blog mo..
May pa BMW pa kasi eh.

  60. VJ2, don’t take Artsee’s “pagyayabang” seriously. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously. That’s comedy.

  61. it’s the Internatioanl critics that will matter the most to the extra judicial killings of this evil woman and her supports, who from their comments in this blog are also in sever denial

    .

Don’t flatter yourselves. The Philippines does not even make Page 8 of the news anymore. The international community has long become bored with our petty issues and our equally petty way of dealing with them.

Although those who are pro-Gloria may, at their own risk, give their comments, they should not, however, convince an anti-Gloria to think otherwise. What is their point ? To make us go to the dark side of the force w/ Gloria ? This blog is not an undecided group. This is a group, like any pro-Gloria group, who have made up their mind & are sticking by their convictions. I can’t imagine going into a pro-Gloria blog & giving my comments. It doesn’t work that way. Not unless, the pro-Gloria blogs lack people who visit their sites..now, that’s another story all together. Hindi kasi tayo humahakot ng tao, so we don’t need to harass others, diba, ET Bloggers ?

  66. chabeli:
“What is their point? To make us go to the dark side of the force w/ Gloria ? This blog is not an undecided group”

Right on chabeli, but I guess when the devil has you in her grasp you no longer have the strength of conviction to do what is right and lead a life thats honest and corruption free. Before you know where you are she’s got you in her grasp and her corrupt thinking. Her follower’s are similar to alcoholics, first they have to admit to the problem not deny it exist.

Political killings must be resolved, say United Methodists leaders
US bishop wants Congress to stop support for Gloria

    By Marie A. Surbano
    02/25/2007
There is more bad news for the President Arroyo and her administration as more pressure is building up against her regime for her inability to direct her military and police to stop the political killings, as well as her reluctance to bring to court the indicted soldiers and commanders of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP), despite the findings of the government inquiry body, the Melo Commission and the United Nations special rapporteur Philip Alston, both of whose findings pointed to the military as being behind the political killings.
Officials of the United Methodist Church, based in America, will call on their congressmen to stop supporting the Arroyo government until the series of political assassinations in the country is resolved.
This occurred after the 17-men mission team headed by Bishop Beverly Shamana from the California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church in the United States arrived for a pastoral and solidarity visit to look into the grave and scandalous trail of extra-judicial killings and human rights violations in the country.
Bishop Solito Toquero said the team visited Nueva Ecija, Leyte, Samar, Davao and Cagayan de Oro.
“They (US bishop-delegation) were shocked that even church people are not spared of these brutal, senseless, cowardice and atrocious acts against humanity,” Toquero said.

  86. Never liked the EDSAs, Schumey. Those who were part of the graft and corruption during the first part of the Marcos administration were the same people who initiated the first EDSA after they had falled out of grace because the old man was sincere in trying to make the Philippines great. Just don’t know if the Apo really had anything to do with the kurakot in the department in charge of building roads and highways.

  88. Hi Schumey,

I agree the spectacular People Power/Revolt of 1986 has lost its meaning.

France, where people’s revolt is recognized as an inherent part of democracy, was the first nation in the world to recognize the revolutionary govt of Cory Aquino.

Cory and the people of the Philippines became the darling in France. The Philippines became a known quantity after the Edsa People Power. Matter of fact, France became very lenient with its acceptance of Filipino migrants to its territory following the people power up till 1990.

Cory was the unique guest of state during the bi-centennial celebrations of the felling of Bastille, July 14, 1989. It was a distinct honor for the Philippines – in a way, France did so much more then at cultivating Philippine prestige than any other nation had done following the Edsa People Power.

President Mitterand then and his government gave a lot to the Philippines and was prepared to give more. There were accords signed, equipment sent, and a lot more.

Cory and the Philippines could have gotten a lot more from France by way of trade, educational assistance (student exchanges, even in military education), technology donations, etc.

For some reason, Cory and her government did not nurture that relationship which the French had greatly tried to establish. After being feted, Cory simply dropped the whole thing and she turned her attention to the US.

Cory let the relationship slip from her fingers. Franco-Philippine relation stumbled and was back to pre-Edsa People Power.

The Philippines, 21 years later is still in oblivion.

  89. Sorry, slip of the fingers. This should read, “after they had FALLEN out of grace because the old man was sincere in trying to make the Philippines great.” Sayang nagkasakit. Dapat talaga, bumaba na lang siya when he became terribly ill. Nakakaawa tuloy ang nangyari sa kaniya.

Anyway, it’s bridge over troubled water.

  90. Because President Mitterand admired Cory Aquino, he allowed France to deliver for her protection VSHORADs (anti-air defence missiles), something the Americans absolutely refused to give her when she was under attack.

It is a pity that the revolutionary govt of Cory did not see fit to expand its relationship with Europe then which it could have done by way of France.

Nothing will be the same again. Today, much as the EU would like to help out (the EU has an enormous financial aid and grant programs, and if I’m not mistaken has the largest donation program in the world) but it cannot and doesn’t want to do so more than it should because Gloria’s govt has little credibility here.

Today, Japan is the largest aid giver to the Philippines, topping that of the US and the EU. I suspect that if Japan withdraws its aid, Philippines will partially collapse.

Hindi naman ako napipikon sa kahit kanino. I’m just expressing my opinion at I’m not using the fallacy of “ad hominem” when I express my opinion on a certain matter. If the purpose of blogging is to solicit opinion, why do we have to attack the person and start naming by using ugly words. Maybe the words and terms are reflective of the ugly personality of the utterer.
I think Ellen did not design this blogging for the GO only. This is a democratic country so why Artsee acts as if he/she is in Vietnam or China? If he/she is not a Filipino, he/she should get out from the Philippines.

    We-will-never-learn,

Regarding your (February 25th, 2007 at 5:21 pm) comments..

You are very correct when you said that “..when the devil has you in her grasp you no longer have the strength of conviction to do what is right and lead a life thats honest and corruption free. Before you know where you are she’s got you in her grasp and her corrupt thinking.”

It was after EDSA 2 that I sensed that something was very, very, very wrong in this gov’t. I tell you, if one is not used to the good life, masisilaw ka talaga in terms of what “they” will offer you ! What they failed to take into account is that there are people who can sincerely say, “No, thank you.” How can one accept money belonging to the people ? There are people w/ a conscience & they know what is right from wrong. Of course, the consequence of doing what is correct is isolation..At the expense of my marriage, my husband knew that there was a choice to make. Thank God he made the right one. He left gov’t.

I don’t get it, what is wrong w/ speaking Spanish ?! Uhhh, I thought it’s a globalized world now ?? Being multi-lingual is an advantage; in as much as those who can speak Chinese or Japanese or German or Italian, is a plus for them. It is quite common to hear people from Batangas speak Italian because most of them spend several years in Rome. Are they mayabang ? I think not.

  104. Doy said 25th Feb 10-17pm
“If he/she is not a Filipino, he/she should get out from the Philippines.”

Hahahahah! Doy, whats your definition of who’s a Filipino? and if all others should get out of the Philippines, how many would be left here?
If you study countries in the region such as Singapore, one good reason they eventually became a 1st class country is because they WELCOMED immigrants to become Singaporeans, unlike the Philippines who discourage immigrants into this country.
Does your argument also mean that all Filipino’s now abroad should be sent back to the Philippines? immediately!
For me, your statement shows that we in this country have a long way to go in our thinking to become a 1st class country, no wonder that we are so far behind the other countries.
If what you said was stated in a western civilised country, they would accuse you of being racist. But in a western country you wouldn’t say it without being arrested and charged (smile) thats how backward we are.
The sooner we realise that ‘Global’ is a two way thing such as the Singaporeans realised, instead of sticking our heads up our ‘sand’ the better our economy will be.

Artsee is just making light of certain things – don’t take his “pagyayabang” seriously. Basically, he’s ok. He does say the right things against the horrible fatso-unano led government.

    OO nga Vonjovi,
Yung “pagyayabang” ni Artsee is a way of putting humor in this blog lalo na kung umiinit ang usapan. You will “love” his antics, you will see. At tsaka friendly yan! Peace!

    Artsee,
Hehehe!

    Artsee, stick to issues.

May red blinker pa.

There is nothing wrong about being able to speak lots of foreign languages. It’s an asset as a matter of fact. I was not happy in fact studying Spanish when I was in college, but I was grateful I did when I went to Spain or Mexico where I have the opportunity to use it.

And of course, it came in handy when I researched on my genealogy. I also make a lot of money doing translations and interpretation in Spanish, even learning a lot of local lingo interpreting for the prostitutes caught by the police in Japan!

But as they say, there is a place for everything. You don’t pretend you know this and that language and say things in this blog for example that not everyone can understand. Di bale kung tama. Pero kung mali-mali din, forget it. Nakakabangas lang!!!

  113. This should read, “when I went to Spain or Mexico where I HAD the opportunity to use it.”
