Gloria: I, too, am a hunger victim

There’s a whale of a difference between being hungry because you want to shed off your excess fat and being hungry because you have nothing to eat. If Gloria does not understand that, she should be hauled to the mental hospital. Click here on Malaya’s editorial.

President Arroyo yesterday said that if simply missing a meal would qualify as experiencing hunger, then she considers herself a victim of hunger.

“Kasi iyun naman ang question ng hunger, do you miss one meal during the last three months? Pati naman ako, I’ve missed one meal in the last three months,” she said in an interview after a roundtable discussion on education and social services.

The question was specifically addressed to household heads.

Arroyo said the way the question was posed among the respondents may have been a factor for the record 19 percent of households experiencing hunger in the latest survey and the previous one conducted last November.

In Metro Manila, the incidence of hunger rose from 20 percent in February from 17 percent in November 2006. In Luzon, it was 18.3 percent in February from 17.7 percent in November 2006.

The President said insufficient income might be one of the factors some families missed a meal. She said most of these are families of coconut farmers.

“That’s why we want to spend as much as possible the coco levy on increasing the income of the farmers,” she said.

She said there are cases where a parent or a family member spends more on vices such as drink than on good.

Arroyo said the government is seeking to teach students right “spending habits” to ensure that the family income is spent on basic necessities like food.

She said teaching of responsible parenthood and family planning methods would help the poor save money which they could spend on food.

Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral said a family spends about P2,000 for formula milk every month, which can be use to buy food.

Arroyo and Cabral said one reason some families go hungry was the removal of the “food for school” program in the supplemental budget sought by the administration in 2006.

Cabral said the DSWD food-for-school program, where daycare school children get a kilo of rice daily for 120 days, was replaced with milk feeding and hot meals. The same program is offered by the Department of Education for elementary students.

Arroyo said each kilo of rice costs about P20, which benefits the student and his family while the milk and hot meals also cost about P20 but only benefit the student.

Cabinet secretary Ricardo Saludo said higher pr ices of rice and a drop in production due to typhoons prevented some poor families from having access to the staple. (Jocelyn Montemayor)

  1. Who cares if Gloria was a hunger victim? (What kind of response is that anyway – some poor folk says he/she’s hungry coz of poverty and here comes this vampire saying, “Why, me too, me too!”

She could do with skipping a meal every day for the simple reason that her big fat behind is such a flabby blob so missing a meal here and there would actually do wonders for her sagging ass.

Besides let’s face it – the reason why she probably skips meals is that gets so worked up when her husband, the Fatso reports to her that their “family take”, i.e, amount of jueteng and kickbacks they receive for the day, is slightly lower than what this FAT, UGLY UNANO (inside out), expects…

And really, I couldn’t care less if Gloria, the ever nasty piece of work, died of hunger!

Now, the Tiyanak is in the defensive mode again!

She must have received tremendous flaks from all directions – front, back, right, left, top and bottom!

And she does not even know what HIT her. HIT HER SO BAD!

But given a chance – I’ll tell her straight to her face – it’s your insensitivity and stupidity, a**hole!

Is Gloria trying to be cute w/ her answer ?

I think this recent statement regarding hunger as compared to the other one – where she says that the hungry should avoid luxuries- is even more insulting !

    Stupida !

17% hungry from a question of hungry ‘the last 3 months’..How much more if the survey asked ‘being hungry everyday?’

  8. Cabinet secretary Ricardo Saludo said higher pr ices of rice and a drop in production due to typhoons prevented some poor families from having access to the staple.

    Ja ja ja!

  9. luzviminda luzviminda

  10. Chona Chona

Despite the abundance of food in Malacanang, Gloria chooses to skip meals out of choice. The poor has NO CHOICE but to skip meals because there is absolutely no money and nothing to eat. If Gloria’s words were meant as a joke…. it is so demeaning and so very SICK!!!

  11. paquito paquito

  12. This woman is Liar No. 1. Papaano siya magugutom e kung iyong mga mahihirap nga hindi nagutom noong panahon ni Marcos—this I am told by the many products of poverty living in Japan, huwag na iyong mga na-meet ko sa States.

Tatay niyan ginutom din ang mga pilipino. In fact, it was what made my father decide to have his family live in the USA in the 60’s. Iyan ang foresight. Bigas ng Pilipinas noon ini-import sa Vietnam that was even at war. Same condition ngayon. Ano iyan?

  14. Anna:

You’re right the crook has started to move with her voting machineries. Increase salaries ngayon.

  15. Drop in rice production was due to ‘Typhoon Bolante” and the fertiliser scam Mr Ricardo Saludo or have you forgotten that, because we haven’t.

  17. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Nice one, Chona. Hunger, by the poor, is really not a matter of choice.

Even the so-called rice-for-school program provided a window of opportunity, not for rice farmers to have a steady market for their produce, but for thieves to steal more by importing almost-inedible rice which were grossly overpriced. Maybe tomorrow she’ll say they stopped this program because people were swapping the rice for cellphone load, cigs, and booze.

  20. The SWS data shows that SEVERE HUNGER has been constant (within the sampling margin of error) during the last 10 years, with a slight downward trend. The rest of the data is suspicious because of obvious seasonal variations and wild erratic swings from record highs to record lows. It is NOT a scientific survey because there is no independent verification, unlike the voter preference surveys which the elections either contradict or confirm. What is normally reported in headlines are random statistical variations. Of course, many people don’t actually care about the facts. Just propaganda and ideology and prejudice, including this comment thread.

  21. vic vic

We don’t need a survey of any kind to see that hunger has been in existence in the Philippines for quite sometimes and it can only get worse among the already perpetual victims as the Gap between the wealthiest few and the majority impoverished getting wider and the trend continues. What we need is just a pair of eyes to see them all around. And if confimation is needed live with them squatters and the single mothers with no meaningful income or social assistance support of any kind from government and may we find out. Hunger even exists here in this
First World country without the Corruptions to the level as that of the Philippines and with all the Social Programs available.

And for the President experience of Hunger, thousands do the same everyday, for the sake of losing their extra girth..

  22. Golberg Golberg

Sabi ng kumag na ito “I missed (a meal) in three months.”
Baloney! She missed a meal or skipped a meal is not a big deal compared to those who were missing meals each day of their lives. She does not understand it properly!

    ”I, too, a hunger victim.”-gma

    let me interpret her statement:

    1. She’s admitting that there is hunger.

    2. She’s insinuating its beyond her control.

    3. She’s telling us not to blame her and instead blame ourselves for experiencing hunger.

    4. She’s telling us not to complain about hunger.

    5. She’s telling us to move on.

  25. I will have to use Bill Clinton’s classic, it’s the ECONOMY STUPID!

    – Why would you teach students the right spending habits? Sure, there must be some of them who have some damn lousy spending habits! I raise my right hand! I was guilty back when I was a student, but what’s the government got to do with this? IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID!

    – Why teach the population on what vices or none of that? I mean, it would be good for the population indeed! But is the government abysmally accepting of that fact that they are bumfuck clueless in running the economy that they have to start teaching people their personal affairs?! IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID!

-The President said insufficient income might be one of the factors some families missed a meal! Duh! Did you just find out about this? Is she aware of how much is the minimum wage at all? IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID!

The government has to make it easier for it’s citizenry to do commerce. You have to make it easier for everybody to freely exhange goods and services such the money flows easily and this is one way to improve commerce, but then again just how can we do this, when we don’t even have a goddarn decent expressway from Manila to Bicol let alone decent roads from poblacion to marketplace such that my lolo and lola are able to sell their goods and maybe makabili din sila nang nilalamon nang tyanak!

It’s the fkin economy stupid! If only !@@#$%^&*()GRRRRRR!! these people in power will funnel the monies and funds to make our lives easier to do commerce then maybe she would not be telling us how not to go fkin hungry!

  26. Spartan Spartan

So what you’re saying GSDC, the said survey about HUNGER can not be relied upon, or simply untrue, or it is true but not true? Which one is it great PAHAMak? Oks ba iyon? 😉

  27. Spartan Spartan

On gloria’s comment that she too was a victime of hunger…BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

  28. Spy:

Here’s another interpretation of her statement. After probably looking at pictures of the hungry in Darfur, Ethiopia, she thought Filipinos must be too fat and they need to shed fats like her and her husband. She probably wants to see Filipinos to look emaciated so that some more help from other nations will come.

Puede ba PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! Panay ang electioneering ngayon ng ungas. Increased salary daw starting July, etc.

  29. Finally, you would think that a graduate of Georgetown would give some intelligent response to some questions posed to her like that, instead throw some stupid answers reflective of how lousy and sick is her mental state! You don’t proclaim to the world that you’re an economist from Georgetown with ahh.. duhhh… “ako nga nalipasan di nang gutom”! Fk that damn shit! You don’t even need a high school degree to figure out that mangmang talaga ang klider na yan! You don’t insult your people!

To: GodSaveDConstitution: The bigger question is: why is there such darn HUNGER in the Philippines anyway that we even have SWS to actually monitor it?!

  30. @ ystakei, did you read the news lately that the Philippines is the 3rd in Asia as far as the fastest rising wages are concerned?! It appeared two weeks ago! I was just laughing at the news, I kept telling my american counterparts here that it’s election time in the Philippines that’s why!

  31. Reyna Elena, the Bugaw did not graduate from Georgetown U. I understand she was there merely as an observer. No credit. She got her undergrad degree from Assumption Convent, where the Marcos’ daughters also went to school. In short, nanloko pa ng credential! Wanna check with Georgetown U. I’m pretty sure they will give you a statement if you ask on behalf of the 80 million Filipinos she is trying to fool with her lies and deceit.

  32. ystakei, i didn’t know that. i was fooled by some manlakayang papers probably! but then again, she’s not the only one pinoy politician who went to the US, had some seminars in some universities here and pag-uwi nang pinas, proclaims that they are a graduate here and there. i went to george washington u and temple u and i met pinoys there who told me that arroyo was a grad a georgetown. you gave me an idea, i could actually call somebody and check if she’s in the register! ha ha ha!

  33. mutiara mutiara

Could hardly believe those words came from one who claim to have PhD in Economics! The more Tiyanak open her big mouth, lalong lumalabas ang pagka-boba niya. Sarap batuhin ng bulok na kamatis!!!!

  34. Reyna Elena:

I know the other sinungaling you are talking about. Everybody at Harvard U I knew was laughing about it. This reminds me of a Japanese wannabe parliamentarian who fooled the electorate that he was a graduate of a university in California. He won the election as a matter of fact because of it until some brave journalist exposed his lie, and everybody going to the US university to confirm. In the end, the guy was told to tender his resignation as a parliamentarian and a special election was conducted to fill up his position when the university confirmed that he told a lie.

A similar check on the records of Georgetown U will not be effective to remove the kapalmuks. Baka sabihin niya ang Georgetown U ang nagsisinungaling! Or she may go on TV again and say, “Sorry, lapse of judgment!”

  35. When I saw her waddling down the parade ground of the PNP graduation gathering in her powder blue suit where the jacket is tailored to cover her fat _ss convinced me she needs to miss a few more (correction many more) meals.
Maybe part of the waddle is due her wearing ANNA’s platform shoes where she loses control in movement of the excess fat in her _ss. Hahaha!

  36. Vic,
It makes a helluva difference whether real hunger due to poverty is being experienced by 18 million people than if it 1.8 million. But if nobody cares about the facts and just wants to rant and rave, be my guest. As someone else said who needs surveys anyway since everybody knows there are poor and hungry people everywhere? Who cares about the truth — the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth in this God-forsaken country?

  37. Mrivera Mrivera

“Gloria: I, too, am a hunger victim”

gloria, the liar, the cheat, the corrupt and ever shameless acting president of the republic is a victim of her own hunger for power!

  38. Who cares about the truth — the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth in this God-forsaken country?
Most of us care about the TRUTH being told, have asked our Fake leader to tell the wholw nation the TRUTH since and about the Garcie tapes in 2004. Four years have passed without her telling us the TRUTH, maybe this is the reason that people don’t pursue the facts on hunger and rely on what they see for themselves that hunger exists and thats good enough. What we want to see is action to assist the hungry because she’s not doubting it exists is she!.

  39. Mrivera Mrivera

  49. GSDC’s “WWNL–Just because GMA lies does not mean we should accept it in others. ”

    Absolutely agree!

We shouldn’t accept lies from the likes of the Senior Malacanang Mafia Don, Mike Fatso who says he’s doing things to gain points to avoid going to hell, nor from Chavit Singson who’s the father and brother of lies to Gloria.

Mustn’t accept lies from Iggy Pidal Arroyo, Bunye, Ermita NOR from any of Gloria’s minions.

Just won’t do to accept lies from any of them!

  50. anna,
Nor from SWS, PDI and anyone eager to debase the truth, especially whilst taking the name of Science in vain. Which was the real issue here. It worries me when people like most here who lambaste, curse and castigate the administration for lying show an equal capacity to shun the truth for political advantage. It proves what most people fear, that the Opposition may not have the moral superiority after all and are equally capable of using “facts” to suit their ideologies and politics. Just like GMA, Fatso and the rest.

This is the important point which cannot be run away from. Moral inconsistency to me is a danger sign. If the Opposition cannot demonstrate scientific and moral integrity when they are not in power, why should I support their accession to power much as I may agree with their criticisms of the current administration.

  51. If we cannot demonstrate a commitment to the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth when we don’t have power, how can we convince the people to give us that power???

  52. Dean,

I agree with you. “If the Opposition cannot demonstrate scientific and moral integrity when they are not in power, why should I support their accession to power much as I may agree with their criticisms of the current administration.”

Why don’t you speak to the Opposition about it? You are in Manila, right in the heart of where the political action is…

  53. I have no real access to the Opposition senatorial candidates but should be easy to access them, otherwise, I would help link you up.

My access is more to a few members of Gloria’s cabinet!

  54. Example: I was just reading a post on the Genuine Opposition website http://genuineopposition.com/ with the title “Hunger Worsens”. But the SWS survey it was reporting clearly shows that nothing changed between this quarter and the last reporting period. In fact, if you bother to understand the meaning of “sampling error” it hasn’t change much in a few quarters.

What gives? Do they think they can fool all the people all the time? this is what i mean by moral inconsistency. They accuse the administration of lying, cheating and stealing, and here they demonstrate their own capacity to do at least the first of these things!

  55. Anna,
take a look at http://www.genuineopposition.com the new web site of GO. There is a post there reporting the SWS survey as “HUNGER WORSENS”

But just go to the SWS website and you will see that it clearly states nothing changed in the hunger level from the last quarter!

The opposition (and this comment thread) accuses the administration of lying, cheating and stealing, but right there on their website they demonstrate and equal capacity for intellectual dishonesty.

Should we trust them when they do this kind of thing and demonstrate OBVIOUS moral inconsistency just because they are right about Gloria? Ngek!

  56. This country is so deeply mired in shit that it would take a bit of time to get out of it.

Short of having an all-out revolution à la française of 1789, realistically, the only way to do it is one or two steps at a time. To me starting with getting rid of Gloria is the first step. And let’s not believe that there’s no one to replace her – such attitude is self-defeating and symptomatic of pessimism.

  57. I left a comment on their website. Maybe you guys should do the same to help the clueless out instead of merely participating in this NEGATIVE FEED BACK LOOP we’ve got going here every day!

  58. Well here’s an even bigger problem. I’m sure I left a comment on their website, but it hasn’t shown up. I’m losing faith by the minute. Maybe they can’t take the TRUTH either like some folks around here!

  59. Dean,

You know that that’s all election rhetorics. I do believe that the GO slate is at a disadvantage in the forthcoming elections because the cheating machineries are controlled by Gloria.

While I may have misgivings about some of the GO candidates, there are only TWO slates to choose from so to give democracy a chance (as opposed to staging a violent revolution to get rid of the bad ‘uns), you gotta opt for either one or the other.

And I have chosen to vote for the Opposition. This may be the coward’s way out but realistically, what can one do in the face of a far more sinister force such as Gloria and her many Chavits?

  60. Dean,

You have the scientific background, the education, the depth of analysis to help the Opposition, why don’t you go and seek them? I am serious about this… People must go out of their way to help change things.

  61. Anna,
You don’t need ANY “scientific background” to know that “Hunger Worsens” is not what the SWS found because the TOTAL HUNGER percentage was 19% last time and 19% this time.

In fact, if you look at the core hunger numbers, which SWS calls SEVERE HUNGER (people who report always being hungry), that percentage has not changed for the entire survey period since July 1998 and has been within the sampling error margin throughout that period.

What we are ranting and raving about because of stupid headlines and stupid, ignorant media are RANDOM STATISTICAL VARIATIONS.

Good grief. When the Opposition shows an equal capacity for chicanery as those they moralistically castigate, I think there is real cause for despair (and disdain!)

  62. The only hunger headline I’ve read so far is in Ellen’s blog and even then, my initial comment was on Gloria’s pun about having been a hunger victim.

To me, the fact that there should be a couple of million hungry Filipinos out of 80 million with access to ONE OR TWO meals a day or even a few hundred thousands is bad enough. Hunger, unfortunately, is a friend of many people even in the developed world. (Not making excuses here.)

I personally cannot comment on the hunger surveys coz to tell you the truth, I’ve never really been a fan of election opinion polls which I think this hunger survey is all about.

  63. If we want the GO to win, we have to help them overcome their own weaknesses. This is exactly what a lot of Filipinos think (even the hungry ones): The Opposition is probably no better than the Administration. Their own website proves it in spades!

  64. Dean,

Re If we want the GO to win, we have to help them overcome their own weaknesses.

    GO and JUST DO IT!

  65. BOB BOB

Johnmarzan, nakisilip ako sa bintana mo…ganda nang mga tanawin, very interesting..thank you….

  66. I am! Right here on this comment thread where the same capacity for intellectual dishonesty that GMA displays is much in evidence, and often without people realizing they’ve descended to her level and below.

  67. But bloggers here are not GO candidates.

Why don’t you go and speak to the candidates of GO?

  68. Re: and often without people realizing they’ve descended to her level and below.

    Come, come now, Dean!

You CANNOT believe that anyone could be lower than the lowest of the low…

Because people here are very angry with her (and seemingly not you), that places them lower than Gloria bansot!

It’s like saying that Ellen is far more corrupt than Gloria is! Hahahahah!

  69. Anna,
I am sure most if not all the people here are not in the government nor do they have the awesome responsibilities that come with the Presidency. But they must have children, husbands, wives, co-workers and other human beings who rely on them for something. But if they display the same intellectual dishonesty as GMA, who is actually lower if not the ones with LESS responsibility since dishonesty IS dishonesty? If we praise and support an opposition that is just as dishonest as her because we are willing to fudge on the Truth, are we not equally culpable?

This cycle can’t be broken by ranting and raving at the person at the helm, since we are all at the helm, somewhere in the Ship of State.

  70. Re: This cycle can’t be broken by ranting and raving at the person at the helm, since we are all at the helm, somewhere in the Ship of State.

So, Dean, are you suggesting that Ellen should shut down her blog and stop ranting and raving at Gloria and instead, focus on glorifying her?

  71. Anna,
I’ll take your last comment as your way of agreeing with me. It’s okay to rant and rave, but not the way kettles sometimes do when criticizing pots.

  72. vic vic

GSDC and others, Granted the Go win the Majority or GMA is out, have we seen any programs from the oppositions to address the “hunger situation” spelled out in their campaign? And not only programs, but plan of actions and how they will implement the programs as the sources of fundings and the target of eliminating or minimizing the Hunger Level? I still have to see one…

  73. And speaking of responsibilities, Gloria has NOT been up to the task so what better way than to get rid of her?

Are you suggesting that we should keep her ad vitam eternam because she being at the helm (by virtue of her having stolen the power), we should be cognizant of the fact that a thief of her caliber who got to the top requires more and far better understanding of what makes her tick, i.e., that she has “responsibilities”?

I really don’t believe this! Shucks, what’s happened to your the right flank vs Gloria?

  74. Dean,

Re: I’ll take your last comment as your way of agreeing with me.

You know me Dean. I agree with you when I think you are right and blast you to smithens when I believe you are not right or when you are making fun of people.

“Gloria: I, too, am a hunger victim”

Send this hell of a woman to the mental asylum, ASAP! Baka makahawa pa ‘yan ng mas malala!

The reason why she skipped, o missed a meal daw pala, in three months was because she drank straight a bottle of conac! Tonta!

  76. Re “cannot be achieved by seizing the moral low ground.”

Moral low ground meaning Gloria…. well, I don’t know but in military strategy, you gotta seize all the grounds you can seize, otherwise, how on earth do you win?

  77. Anyway, gotta go! So have fun folks, don’t let Gloria get to you.

    Will be back on Monday!

  78. Anna,
That is why my nom-de-plume is Rizalist. He was a master at satire and roman-a-clef. I’m just an amateur, but I do know that when the hunger number stays the same from one quarter to the next, you shouldn’t put out a headline that says “Hunger worsens!”

Just now I am watching ANC with Tony Velasquez endlessly replaying some scene of lil kids eating in the squalor of some sidewalk, as if this were representative of the Philippines and the Filipinos. It simply is not! But it certainly is the cheapest way to start feeding frenzies among bleeding heart liberals with Cable TV and Internet connections.

  79. luzviminda luzviminda

Whether the surveys statistics remains the same or worsens, we cannot deny the fact that the government program that the admin is bragging is not working. The fact that this bogus administration’ focus is their survival and how they can secretly corrupt, taht is why they are neglecting the basic services for the people. Doctored statistics showing life in the Philippines is getting better cannot fool us!

  80. luzviminda luzviminda

Obvously some people want them to be fooled by this bogus adminitration! Nagtatanga-tangahan or simply Tanga!

  81. Anna:

Happy trip! Give my regards to Rachel! Pakisabi we’re busy to go there because of the election, and Ocampo’s detention. Pagbutihin nila ang bira diyan!

Alam mo Ystakei, nakakalungkot talaga na those people who have more in life can say and do these things to those who have really nothing but their breath. Mga manhid na talaga. Mga walang puso at kaluluwa! Sana ibagsak na ang hatol sa kanila!

  84. No, Luzviminda, it’s all just yabang. Puro asta lang, and burot. I’ve met a lot many Filipinos like that in the Philippines, US and mind you, even in Japan. I can only shake my head!

I’ve met much richer people in Japan, people who used to belong to the old peerage, but my, mahihiya ang mga hambug sa Pilipinas sa humility! I’ve met similar people in UK when I was a student there as a matter of fact.

I was introduced to some members of the house of lords because my foster Mom’s mother was a baroness. Walang hangin sa ulo. Very humble and regal in their bearing in exotic gown or even casual house wear. Walang binatbat iyong trying hard to be a queen at the palace by the murky river who sounds bakya everytime she opens her mouth! Bearing? Walang sinabi!

GSC says “You don’t need ANY “scientific background” to know that “Hunger Worsens” is not what the SWS found because the TOTAL HUNGER percentage was 19% last time and 19% this time.”

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know the answer in above arguments. 19% of 60 Million Filipinos (last time) is about 11.4 Million Filipinos. 19% of 80 Million Filipinos (this time) is about 15.2 Million Filipinos.

The statisticians in SWS are doing their homework and don’t undermine their data.

  86. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Ano sabi niya? “One reason some families go hungry was the removal of the “food for school” program in the supplemental budget sought by the administration in 2006?”

But the SWs survey question was asked of household heads. So now household heads go to school pala for the “food for school” program??!! Boba.

Sick. Sick. Sick in the head. Too much brandy. So much, so much lying and so much spinning. Gads. The Lilluput plague is upon us and there seems to be no end to it. This Usurper “President” belongs to the Guiness Book of World Records as the biggest liar and comical “head of state” ever.

  89. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

The main reasons of hunger are poverty and overgrowing population in the Philippines estimated at about 89 million in July 2006. As the population rapidly grows with limited natural and economic resources, then, more people are hungry due to poverty. The Genuine Opposition’s blog banner “Hunger Worsens” is a valid claim. It worsens in relations to growing population and lack of local job opportunities for growing workforce at about 36 million. The next Philippine Congress should pass into law the Population Control Bill 3773, which restricts families to two children, introduces sex education for children, and supports the distribution of artificial contraceptives. Politicos should make stand on population control.

  90. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

The blog started with the Liar twisting what the word “hunger” was all about, which to her was as simple as missing a meal. The intention, of course, was to discredit the survey data which proves wrong her own doctored economic figures as well as her claim that her gov’t has achieved an economic miracle.

Before Anna and Bocobo’s exchange ended, it is the SWS, PDI, the opposition, even Ellen’s bloggers that were now the liars!

And the gall to preach intellectual dishonesty and moral consistency in here, too!

  91. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

At mukhang galit na galit na 19% ten years ago to 19% today does not make it worse daw. Of course, the percentage may not have changed but as Emilio beat me to it, 15.2 million from 11.4 million IS worse.

The new count does not include those who have successfully avoided hunger by eating “pagpag” – a ten peso per plastic bag “feast” of morsels and tidbits salvaged from Jollibee’s or McDonalds’ garbage bins, bought by many families living in the dumps. The “entrepreneurs” now selling these weren’t around yet ten years ago and are as current as those health gurus advocating South Beach Diet.

Nor does it count those families who share a pack or two of instant mami boiled with almost a pail of water they pass as soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner – all 365 days of the year! The poorest of poor didn’t bother ten years ago, why, you can still buy “tuyo” one peso apiece and a kilo of rice for P14 – well within the P36 ($1 in 1997) whetstone. Remember, it was not just SWS who researched this, but also a joint ADB-WB team that studied how people can subsist for just a dollar a day?

Include also the fast-diminishing lower middle class who refuse to go hungry by being more tolerant today of the quality of food that they serve their children. From the mere “pulutan” ten years ago, such treats as “adidas” (chicken feet BBQ), “helmet” (chicken head BBQ), “IUD” (chicken intestines BBQ), “proven” (breaded chicken skin or butse), “betamax” (pig blood BBQ), “tinga” or “sebo” (fried beef fat), etc., etc., etc., is now not an uncommon sight on middle class dinner tables.

The fact that since ten years ago, more Pinoys have adopted these new alternative diets as a means to survive from one meal to the next truly proves that not only SEVERE HUNGER has turned from bad to worse, but the QUALITY OF FOOD, thus, health in general, has suffered the same fate.

Statistics may not be as rigid as nuclear physics as a Science but it does not even need a scientist to see “poor” as poor is or “worse” as worse is, by any acceptable definition.

Worst, someone is shouting EUREKA! when he actually found nothing.

Magsanay ka lang na puro Hormel corned beef at Spam, Treet, Libby’s sausage, Skippy, Ranch, Prego, Chicken of the Sea. Halos lahat binili 50% off sa Costco o Target.

O isang kutsarang Racumin.

The best way to teach is to practice- practice what you preach.

“Arroyo and Cabral said one reason some families go hungry was the removal of the “food for school” program in the supplemental budget sought by the administration in 2006.”

There goes another spin- blaming everybody else but her government.

This government is already shooting itself dead. All the opposition has to do is to keep quiet, panalo na sila. It would be a blunder to speak and act much the same way as Aling Gloria does. If they ever do, there’s always Ang Kapatiran.

  101. Guys, did you get to read the news?

Confronted by the specter of a large number of Filipinos going hungry, President Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the release of a billion pesos for “emergency hunger mitigation” in depressed areas of Metro Manila and in some provinces found to have a high incidence of hunger.

    Ok. So let’s see…

Just the other day, she ok’d an increase the salaries of well, whatever.

  102. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

The release of one billion pesos to fight hunger during election season is simply a PR to win votes for Gloria’s TUTA Team and her allies at the lower house. Gloria Arroyo is desperate to control both houses. She needs a rubber stamp Philippine Congress to hide her crimes against the Filipino people. There’ no guarantee that the real recipients of government funds gets help. As usual., most likely the bulk of pork barrel funds goes to the pockets of Arroyo corrupt officials.

  103. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Equally suspect is the statement of DBM’s Andaya that the release of funds for disater/relief-related expenses isn’t covered by the election ban. He also said the P10B scheduled funds are now ready for release.

Ayup talaga, diba?

President Arroyo has ordered the immediate release of P1 billion for the implementation of measures to ease hunger in the country, as she cracked the whip on all the frontline agencies involved in addressing the problem.

Presidential Management Staff chief Cerge Remonde, in an interview, said the President wants immediate results.

She’s immediately released 500M. How convenient for the election plan why do I think there’s a fraudulent plan in the air also…Whaaaaaaaaaa!

  107. Dean Jorge Bocobo said in an earlier post that hunger did not “worsen”. It remained constant. If you really get down to it, those living in slums or say in Payatas CAN NOT be lazy. If they become lazy, they will not be able to dig up fresh garbage from which to get their next meal.

On that score, I do agree with Gloria and Saludo, it’s the fault of the most impoverished of the impoverished if they go hungry and stay hungry. After all, there’s tons of garbage from which to get food.
