Sinabihan lang siya ni Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim na hindi niya papayagan na magkagulo sa Manila na siyang magiging daan sa pagpatumba sa kanya bago ang 2010 ay tuwang-tuwa na siya.
Nangyari itong pag-uusap ni Lim at Arroyo noong isang araw sa inawgurasyon ng Sentro ng karunungan sa Tondo.
Bago kasi nito, nagpahayag ang Malacañang ng pagkabahala dahil papayagan na ni Lim ang rally sa Mendiola kapag Sabado at Linggo. Dati kasi hindi makalapit ang mga rallyista sa Mendiola sa takot ni Arroyo na lusubin siya.
Malapit ang Mendiola sa Malacañang at nangyari noong panahon ni Marcos at mga ilang buwan pa lamang nakaupo si Arroyo (May 1, 2001) na nakarating ang mga galit na estudyante at mamamayan sa gate ng Malacañang.
Tuwing red alert, ang Malacañang ngayon ay mukhang pier. Ang daming cargo trucks na nakabalandra sa paligid para pangharang sa kung sino man ang lulusob. Makikita mo diyan kung gaano ka-insecure itong nang-agaw ng pagka presidente.
Ayon sa report, sinabi raw ni Lim na siguraduhin niyang makakaabot ng 2010 si Arroyo. Siyempre tuwang-tuwa naman si trapolita.
Takot kasi siya na kapag lumabas ang Sandiganbayan ng desisyon na guilty si dating Pangulong Estrada ng plunder at dalhin sa kulungan ay mauulit ang nangyari noong May 1, 2001.
Duda ako na magkaroon ng People Power ulit kung guilty ang hatol kay Erap.
Hindi na uso ang people power ngayon. Kung hindi man bumebenta ang rally ngayon, hindi ibig sabihin noon gusto ng taumbayan si Arroyo. Ang resulta ng nakaraang eleksyon ay nagpapahiwatig na ayaw nila ang kung sino man na kadikit ni Arroyo. Kaya hindi makakasiguro si Arroyo kahit na sinabi ni Lim na hindi niya papayagfan sa Manila.
Hindi naman kailangan sa Manila mangyari ang pagpatalsik sa kanya. At hindi lang naman people power ang paraan.
Kiliti si Arroyo sa sinabi ni Lim na siguraduhin niyang makakaabot siya ng 2010.Ngunit makakasiguro ba tayo na bababa si Arroyo sa 2010?
Wala kong tiwala diyan. Sa dami ng kasalanan na ginawa ni Arroyo sa taumbayan (Hello Garci, Fertilizer scam, North Rail scam, ZTE scam, PCGG scam, Marcos wealth scam, pagkulong sa mga matitinong sundalo, etc.etc.) takot yan makasuhan at makulong kapag wala na siya sa kapangyarihan.
Kung papayagan natin siya manatili sa kapangyarihan ng tatlo pang taon, magpapatuloy ang kanilang kurakutan at pambabastos ng Saligang Batas. Hindi naman niyang maaring pahintuin ang kanyang mga ganid na mga kampon dahil yun ang nandaya at nangurakot para sa kanya.
Naghahanap lang yun ng oportunidad na maisahan na naman ang taumbayan.

What did he tell these guys? Since everyone denied their activities, he told them to cooperate with him so that they can help him stop “illegal” gambling. It wasn’t difficult for the financiers to understand what he meant, “cooperating” will make them legal.

On second thought, these guarantees for Gloria to stay on until 2010 may actually be shared by some other hardhitting oppositionists. I dismissed it as a monkey wrench when Pablo Garcia first said it: that the opposition will prefer Gloria to stay on instead of kicking her out and having her replaced by De Castro who then becomes an incumbent candidate in 2010. It may be difficult, judging by their experience with Gloria, to defeat Kabayad Noli if he’s already a sitting president during elections.
But any way I look at it, my conscience still dictates that whether today or even just one day before her term ends, she has to go.
And know what? Speaking of walking back in time, am at this very minute watching The Sting on BBC1 starring the famous Redford and Newman duo.
Villar may be recognized as a star for operating a despicable sting in the Senate – he may be considered as good as Newman or Redford in his own sting operation but nowhere, boy, nowhere could he physically be near – not remotely near – the beauty of those two actors!

I’ve just read Quezon’s Inquirer article about Lim’s “sweet nothings” in http://www.Uniffors.com and I’m prepared to give Lim the benefit of the doubt.
1) a man of that age (75 or something is it?), who’s been a devoted public servant as far as we know, logically doesn’t change political stripes at whim
2) i can very well believe that Lim simply played to the Gloria da pootha gallery because da poootha invited herself to a manila occassion and because Lim is supposed to be of the old school, i.e., gallant and knightly (ahem), was forced to be gallant towards da poootha dwende
Just the same, I do wish that Lim would curve or choose his words more wisely because he must remember that his reputation for being a crimebuster carries weight so that if he says, Gloria can stay till kingdom come or until 2010 that is, the public could very well interpret his words to mean that he’s jumped over the dwende’s fence.
He should be more circumspect in his pronouncements where da poootha dwende is concerned.

Nothing surprising… the fact that the ellenville citizens here are sniping at their “former idols” because they have shown they are not worthy of trust shows that Ellenville citizens are politically mature, sensible and are nowhere near brain stagnancy. It also shows that the citizens here are pro-active democrats, the only way to go if ever we aspire for change. I dare say, a military solution, i.e., coup d’état, to the problems facing the leadership dilemma in the Philippines is not constructive today because most members of our military institution are themselves the first and the most serious cause of the problems in the country’s chain of command link; they are seriously tribal, are inept, incompetent, greedy, corrupt, dishonourable, cowardly and weak in the moral sense, are guided by a warped sense of idealism, etc.
Those who don’t fall under those descriptions and so could lead a successful coup d’état are inside incarceration camps. Sadly, a soldier without the officer’s rank even if he may possess the attributes of an honest and ideal citizen/military leader does not have the material clout to effect a coup d’état.
Given those considerations, I would not want, militaristic as I may be, for our military to attempt a coup d’etat after which they would find themselves in power. Military men, in theory, are martial elements who easily fall prey to fascism and are the least democratic when they are in power. There is no guarantee that once this current government is toppled, the military would give that power back to the civilian citizens of the nation.
