Accused Marine officers shave heads over Basilan

When they appear in the court martial hearing tomorrow, Marine colonels Ariel Querubin, Orlando de Leon and Custodio Parcon will be bald. They have shaved their heads in sympathy with the families of the Marines who died whenthey were ambushed by the MILF in Basilan last week and in disgust the way the military is handling the tragedy.

Three Marine officers facing court martial over an alleged February 2006 coup plot have shaved their heads not only in sympathy for their 14 comrades slain in an encounter in Basilan last week but also to show their disgust with the military leadership’s handling of the incident.

“We shaved our heads to sympathize with out fallen comrades and manifest our disgust for the manner by which the government and the AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines] leadership is handling the incident,” Colonel Ariel Querubin said in a text message forwarded to reporters by his wife, Maria Flor.,

Aside from Querubin, Colonel Orlando de Leon and Lieutenant Colonel Custodio Parcon also shaved their heads.

Querubin and Parcon are recipients of the Medal of Valor, the highest combat honor in the military.

Before he was relieved from his post following a standoff at Fort Bonifacio on February 26, 2006, Querubin commanded the First Marine Brigade, the same unit which figured in the July 10 encounter.

Earlier, Marines in Basilan also shaved their heads in protest of the killings of their 14 comrades, 10of whom were beheaded.

Government forces are preparing “punitive actions” against the Marines’ attackers, which the military claims were combined force of the MILF and the Al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf.

The three protesting officers will be seen in public with their shaved heads for the first time on Wednesday, when they attend a court martial hearing of their mutiny case at Camp Capinpin in Tanay town, Rizal province.

The three are among 28 Army Scout Ranger and Marine officers on trial before a military court for their alleged participation in the failed 2006 uprising.

Querubin and ex-Army Scout Rangers chief Brigadier General Danilo Lim allegedly planned a mass withdrawal of support from President Gloria Macapagal-Aroyo on February 24, 2006, the 20th anniversary of the 1986 People Power uprising.

Former Marine Corps commandant Major General Renato Miranda allegedly knew of the plan.

His sudden relief allegedly stirred up the Marines, prompting Querubin to lead a night-long standoff at their Fort Bonifacio headquarters two days later, on February 26.

  2. So sad that we can’t even propose to shave Gloria’s and Esperon’s heads lest they might start thinking they have honour!

But really, I believe as in the practice post WWII, women who slept with the enemy (and I have a suspicion Gloria has just de facto slept with the enemies of the fallen Marines), the public used to shave their heads – but let’s hold off shaving Gloria’s head; the honour of head shaving belongs to the bravest of the brave, to Col Querubin and his unit and even if we shave off all the hairs on Gloria’s body could she redeem herself!!

  3. Querubin a Marine colonel shaving his head is like a PMAer asking of his upperclassman, ‘Alright, Sir?’

Much like the US Marines NCO when he puts his tie inside his shirt is a challenge to an officer to a fight by putting aside the latter’s rank!

    Go Col Querubin, go!

  4. Anna, after the war, I understand that a lot many of those who cooperated with the Japanese were scalped and buried alive.

I just finished translating such interview with a former guerrilla and a civilian who witnessed such scalping, and skinning of those considered collaborators.

Gloria Poohtah should do a Britney Spear if she is really sincere in offering condolences to the families of the dead marines, but I doubt if she would do that. Lalong papangit ang ungas!

I would actually rather want to see this creep get shaved and then sit on an electric chair as punishment for all the crimes that she has committed, including plunder and shedding of innocent blood, which BTW is an unforgivable sin.

  5. Yuko,

Yep, I heard some stories from friends of my Dad.

(Dad never ever wanted to talk about the war – he was tortured, his twin brother died in death march, his wife and his mom killed, his 3 children killed by the Japanese yet never ever wanted to speak of the atrocities of war; my father in law the same and same with my hubby who was in the Falklands)

I personally believe in coup de grace – I don’t like torture!

RP asks international monitors to probe Basilan clash

MANILA, Philippines — The government has formally asked the International Monitoring Team (IMT), through Malaysia, to investigate last week’s clash in Basilan incident in which 10 of the 14 Marines killed were beheaded and mutilated.

ANONG MONITOR MONITOR? Do they expect Malaysia which has an enormous stake for the continuing battle in the South of the Philippines to tell the truth?

Ubod ng tanga! Anong magagawa ng monitor nila kung sira ang monitoring system which in effect all this sham peace talk is all about!

    Tanga!

    War with MILF is
    AFP call: Palace

AFP CHIEF Gen. Hermogenes Esperon has the full backing of Malacañang if he intends to pursue an all-out military offensive against the secessionist Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

“Maybe for him it’s the right thing to do at the moment. We will not interfere, we leave it to the discretion of General Esperon,” Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said.

A GENERAL WHO LEADS HIS ARMY TO A BATTLE FOR 9 HOURS WITHOUT BACK UP SUPPORT IS CAPABLE OF WINNING THE WAR?

Tanga! Gunggong! Even a cub scout chief could do a better job than this gunggong na Esperon!

  8. Pa ‘maybe’, ‘maybe’ pa itong si Edong! Maybe, kailangan ng ibang commander na!

What time is the hearing tomorrow? We can join them in our prayers..let us stop for a moment at the time the hearing
starts and say a prayer for them. AdB gave us the names of the marines who died..can we say a prayer for each one of them, or do an act of charity or sacrifice in their name? We can show our protest in our prayers..for catholics, have a mass said for their intention..whatever religion we may be, whereever we may be let us join in prayers .. anong say ninyo? A priest friend from Northern Italy just called and I will ask him to pray for the marines as well. He had mentioned to me before that he almost was sent to Mindanao but for whatever reasons, he was sent to Brazil instead. He just came from Italy where he said the news about the death of these marines were in the front pages of the newspapers. He will be going back in a day or two and that is why he wanted to talk to me. I will meet him in an hour…

  10. Agree Rose! I will light 14 candles in my lil garden for the 14 names in my list and one for the others whose names are not included.

Yeah, Anna. “ANONG MONITOR, MONITOR” ng international monitors.

Mabuhay kayo Marine colonels Ariel Querubin, Orlando de Leon and Custodio Parcon et al. Nakikiramay ako sa sinapit ng inyong mga tauhan.

I just wrote in a revious post that it is the soldier’s right moment to negotiate yours and the others release from illegal detention!

    Ana,
“I will light 14 candles..for the 14 names in my list and one for the others whose names are not included.”

Great idea ! I think we should encourage others to do the same, & at the same time, this could also be our way, like Col. Querubin et al to “manifest our disgust for the manner by which the government and the AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines] leadership is handling the incident..”

I’ve got a strong feeling that this duo, made the group of soldiers there as sacrificial lambs, for a special goal which we have yet to see in the future! I do hope and pray, this won’t happen!
Yes, I’ll lit 14 candles again for the repose of the poor soldiers souls!

    THEN WHO????!!!!

  19. What? The stupid na idiot pa bunch of crooks are now asking some international body to probe the Basilan massacre? Ang galing ano? Sa katarantaduhan that is. Hmmmmph…..ang sarpa magmura but….Anyway, sinabi ko na ngang domestic problem iyan na hindi dapat makialam ang kung sinumang dayuhan except in the case of the extrajudicial killings being committed by these people in the AFP, et al that needs an International Court to try the culprits, tarantado talaga ano. 🙁

  20. I’ll pray for the living. Will pray for Querubin, et al that they will be free sooner. Tamaan sana ng kidlat si Gloria Poohtah and Company!

  21. I can understand the sentiments of Col. Querubin and fellow soldiers.

Where the hell is the cavalry, AFP chief General Esperon? What went wrong? It’s crystal-clear that there was failure of intelligence and leadership in Tipo-Tipo fiasco.
There’s no doubt that Filipino enlisted soldiers are competent and battle-tested in guerilla warfare. It’s not enough to compensate incompetent senior leadership(colonels, generals) who are dependent on political connections and padrinos who promoted them. The lack of character and competence in the most political generals may demoralize soldiers in the battlefronts. The Tipo-Tipo fiasco is failure of leadership at highest level. The Esperon’s cavalry never came and resulted to heavy casualties to the government side.

  24. Ellen,

I just learned through a fellow blogger in Quezon’s blog that the officer in command was a female lieutenant who’s only 2 weeks old in the command.

    My comment:

Is this true? “A company of marines with only one officer, a female 2Lt commanding the v-150. She was barely 2 weeks on the job.”

Oh my, oh my, if true – then we have a problem! I sympathize with the people who are hesitant to say that the fallen marines were commanded by a neophyte marine and who happens to be a female Marine – not easy! To me, that she happens to be a woman is incidental – that she probably was not up to the task (not yet or whatever) is more like it. Having 5 sgts die under your command is a heavy toll.

Poor lieutenant! But such is life – she lost the battle there but we can never say that a male lieutenant would have done better; I would put it to inexperience (in the same vein, baptism of fire is the best way to make them seasoned commanders in the future).

Anyway, I would have expected two officers if there were 2 platoons. So what happened to the other one?

  25. Ooops, not only in the command but in the job: 2 weeks old!

  26. Just read: “It is premature to talk about a surrender,” MILF spokesperson Eid Kabalu told The Associated Press by telephone. “There has to be an investigation first. We do not mutilate bodies, we have nothing to do with this.”

I don’t believe Kabalu – no more than I believe Esperon.

They share a common culture: that of deceit!

  27. chi chi

I have nothing against a female marine commander, but have everything against assigning anyone with only 2 weeks old experience to command a battle!

What are the idiot officers in AFP thinking!

Yes, Ka Diego…”It’s a failure of leadership at highest level. The buck stops at Malacanang’s doorstep. What do we expect from a bogus Commander-In-Chief?” NADA!

Re: MILF to AFP: Want firearms back? Put it in writing.

Adding salt to injury, MILF wants official black and white from the AFP in order to return captured firearms during the Tipo-tipo fiasco. It appears they don’t trust verbal request from General Esperon. MILF forces captured 27 firearms

  29. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

Yes, Anna, it was a greenhorn, and not a seasoned battle-tested green beret that led the troops. That, to me, explains why they are smack in the middle of enemy territory.

That being the case, the need for IMMEDIATE backup support becomes no longer optional but obligatory! Her immediate superior should have taken action right there and then and called for air cover until the arrival of ground support who shall extricate the easy-target soldiers trapped in the ambush zone. Totally disgusting!

Now can we blaim the Poooootha and her generals if they do whatever please them?

Hoy, mga PINOY…GISING!!! Don’t ever forget that God helps those who help themselves!

  32. Tongue,

But even a greehorn would have raidoed in for back up support – not only that the minute enemy encounter occurred, even a greenhorn would have given orders for info to be relayed to command post. It’s the ABC of any soldiering – no need to be a marine to do or know that.

Am pretty sure that this greenhorn did that!

Just doesn’t make sense! Also what is this shit story going on that the fighting raged for 9 hours? And no back up support? Someone is shitting us here.

  33. Re: “MILF to AFP: Want firearms back? Put it in writing.”

I am gobsmacked – Esperon and Gloria are being raped in public here by the MILF!

What a mess! We have insurgent forces of beheaders and mutilators shitting on Esperon’s head! Really shows you how low this AFP has gone… And we’ve only got ONE AFP with many parallel armies raring to annihilate the official army.

What did the AFP do soooooo bad to deserve such shit leadership (Esperon)? I mean this is pathetic.

On second thought, maybe I might just Brazilian-wax the smaller head. Maybe then, the Big Asshole and 3 the other dickheads (1 Supot and 3 Tule) could better relate with.

supot sir supot. nd2 me bgy guinanta tpo-tpo basilan sir. milf ambus po.

Haaay.

  35. Hahahahah! Tongue naman! I almost choked eating my watermelon!

  36. Anyway, let’s be categorical about one thing – despite the fact that we have some of the most incompetent, corrupt, hideously inept military leadership, we can only condemn in the the strongest terms the killing of the Marines with 10 of them beheaded. There is no going around it – this is unacceptable.

To me, all parallel armies MUST BE DESTROYED – there can only be one official army. MILF is one barbaric parallel army and should be destroyed. I don’t accept that they should believe they run one part of the territory and says that it’s theirs.

Our government is duty bound to ensure the destruction of such barbaric parallel army. This government must stop this peace talk nonsense, throw out those malaysian advisers and pummel the MILF!

If Esperon cannot do that, he should resign or be relieved illico! Bottom line is time to give our AFP the support they need today!

Anna, I read that they actually radioed for help until about two hours later when the battery went dead. The newbie 2Lt is most probably a PMA grad who knows her basics too well. On the other hand, the backup that never came, echoed even in Oakwood, is as old as fishing stories.

It’s Oakwood all over again, same complaints. The idiots never did leave after all. They just changed the idiots’ namepatches.

  39. Tongue, is that right? Holy shit! This is criminal! If it’s true that the newbie radioed for help and didn’t get it – helicopter flight would HAVE BEEN AN HOUR AT THE FRIGGING MOST from Zamboanga air base – that’s criminal; SOCOM commander would be as criminal as the MILF!

Except in Italy walang balita daw sa Europe tungkol sa nangyari..nor here in the New York area. Hindi ba may ipinadala na babaeng envoy to meet with our leaders to discuss the issue? May ransom bang hinihingi ang nagkidnap? Kung babayad ang Italy..it will provide financial support for the rebels…while the gov’t does not have money for the military..or nakatago lang sa bulsa ng Heneral? About 2 years ago, a PIME was kidnapped and was released hindi ba?
Last week may isang pari from a Diocese in Panay, who passed by here, and when he learned that I was from Antique..sinabi niya na yong pari (Italiano din) who was kidnapped and released previously is now assign in Antique. I wonder if money was exchanged for his release.Malungkot!

  41. Spy Spy

    Madame Anna,

all forces in zambo, basilan and sulu are under operational control (OPCON) of WestMincom. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) is under Phil Army. SouthCom was deactivated and splitted into two area commands: EastMinCom and WestMinCom.

    EastMinCom is under Gen Obaniana
    WestMinCom is under Gen Cedo

    Both are classmates of Assperon.

So, nobody was relieved after the disaster.

This is the afp under garci asperon. No sense of leadership, accountability and responsibility.

  42. Thanks Spy for the clarification – I stopped with SouthCom (Angie Reyes was CG South Com wasn’t he?) so shows you how long ago my dealing with the AFP was.

If I remember rightly the re-structuring of the AFP Commands splitting all major field commands was started during the time of Boy Enrile, CGAFP but formalized during the time of J Nazareno or Santiago? (can’t remember anymore) – so confusing now; before so easy Wescom, SouthCom, NolCom, SolCom, VisCom.

Entire Class 74 (is it?) is across the board in the AFP it seems; Esperon a living example of crap military leader is followed by fellow craps!

  43. Ooops, CSAFP pala!

  44. There was one Class that was similar to Class 74 in that the all their members all wished to be generals and made possible by a sitting CSAFP from the same class: Class 62 but the difference is that Class 62 had 2 CSAFPs who stopped the buck when it came to approving a member of their class for major service command – they voted their own classmate out.

General Boy Abadia was capable of saying at command conference full of his classmates (and a sprinkle of non-classmates): This is my decision! Anybody who doesn’t agree must speak now but the minute you step out of this room, there shouldn’t be anyone going against that decision. (or suffer the consequence!)

One of his classmates went agains that command decision (the classmate was very wrong but did it just because he wanted to show off); he never made it to major service command when he was clearly next in line.

Also, for all the warts and faults of Abadia, he was one general who would shoot as opposed to Esperon who prefers to head a surrender gang!

  45. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

    Ana,
For a while, I even thought that MILF was far better than MNLF or the ragtag Abu Sayyaf. I thought they were even more professional than the AFP’s. Until.

I was called to a luncheon by a DOTC official from Mindanao, along with some other contractors, for a project in Malita, Davao del Sur, when the topic shifted to the kidnapped priest, a second one that time, Father Gallardo, was it? That time, Erap had declared an all-out war against the Muslim insurgents after Fr. Gallardo’s abduction and subsequent beheading. Of course, his announcement was rejected by civil society, the left, and the then-plotting-already-but-we-only-knew-later Gloria hacks and Cardinal Sin. I think this was when plans of Erap’s impeachment was in the news.

The DOTC guy said Erap had instructed CSAFP Angelo Reyes to show the Bishops and the Cardinal the video that came from Mindanao. The guy said the video showed a blindfolded Fr. Gallardo crying and praying “Our Father” while a rebel soldier plucked out his fingernails and ordered him to stop praying. The priest refused to obey and the video ended with the priest’s head rolling on the floor, according to the guy. He also said Sin weeped with what he saw.

This mut’ve been true because immediately after Reyes went to the Bishop’s Palace, Sin did a backflip (with two-and-a-half somersaults), the offensives began and shortly after, Erap was seen eating LECHON with the jubilant soldiers in the captured MILF Main Camp Abubakar (which we all know later on, was “returned” by Gloria to Hashim Salamat!).

It’s the same story all over, with Fr. Bossi in Fr. Gallardo’s place. Fr. Bossi at least hasn’t been reported to have been decapitated yet but who knows? Now, again, there’s the all-out war being floated. All the dickheads can’t think of a better script? The difference though is that Erap was more decisive than Gloria is.

I’m getting convinced the AFP leadership, being pushed by some unkown force, are not really serious in ending this war. No more war means no more kickbacks.

    What sez you, General Anna?

  46. Commander Tongue,

To be quite honest, I didn’t know that Erap showed the video thinggy to the bishops and to His Political Turbulence, the very dead Cardinal Sin to ask for moral blessing or whatever.

What I do know is that at the beginning, Erap wasn’t to keen himself to go on an all out war in the South – sort of urong sulong just like the rest of ’em post Nazareno generals (who was one of the most warrior-like SouthCom commander in my book – but only in my book) but I do know that because he was being urong sulong, some general finally showed him the decapitation video and got Erap where he wanted him, by the balls, er by the heart pala; Erap became tearful and right there and then ordered an onslaught. He released a few hundred millions of pesos and off to war the AFP went – then of course, we saw him feasting on baboy with Angie (it was already Angie, wan’t it? Gosh, tough to get old, my memory is starting to fail me…,) Now where was I? Oh yeah… Erap and civil society…

But what poor Erap didn’t know at the same time was that his time was up – or just a month or two before that feasting on roasted baboy scene was taking place, a US Asst Sec of Defence was boasting to a small group of officials at a defence show in Europe that the US, escorted by Northrop Grumann was gonna be back in Pinas “WHEN ERAP IS IMPEACHED!” The said US Asst Sec of Defence was “interrogated” – to make sure everyone heard him right – “You mean, IF he is impeached?” but the American official was categorical, “He WILL BE impeached!”

End of story! (For Erap that is…no way he could ever extricate himself from the shitty position he was in – America had already pronounced his death sentence! It was now a question of fiddling with intel to make the public react and hasten his demise (much like Bush’s and Blair’s fiddling with intel re Iraq to sell their illegal war on Iraq.)

  47. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

It was shown on TV, captured by the GMA TV crew, a chopper came and went without doing anything.

  48. What is “yung atatsi kis, padaanan mo na lang dito”, “?

  49. TonGuE-tWisTeD TonGuE-tWisTeD

    Anna,
Oh so the video was true, after all. I thought this was just another tale that DOTC guy weaved. (The Malita project never existed and I knew it was fake from day one, with the proponent calling the first pre-bid meeting in a restaurant in Alabang. Your friends from EEI, sadly, fell for it.) Thanks for confirming.

BTW, you thought you’ve heard it all? Try this:

It was a mock ambush training that went horribly wrong for this elite Army soldier who was responsible for killing Abu Sayyaf leader Abu Solaiman early this year.

Sgt. Raul Suacillo, of the Army’s 5th Special Forces Company, was killed on July 3 when a bullet fired at him during training at Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija turned out to be a live round.

Just saw it today in PDI. newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view_article.php?article_id=77042

  50. Re US official’s pronouncement “He WILL BE impeached!”

Some good friend of Erap’s informed him about this but Erap who was always mapungay or half asleep (because he was always having a good time till the wee hours of the morning) couldn’t seem to grasp the urgency of the situation – his faculty for assessing a dangerous situation was ebbing away; even when Negroponte used to lecture him and virtually shout at him in his office, Erap was still apathetic.

Needless to say, for those very very few people who were eyewitnesses the sermoning of a president of a supposedly independent republic by a foreign ambassador must have been so embarassing!

I have no sympathy for Estrada personally but I deplore and do not accept the way the Constitution was slapped around, crapped on, torn apart, spat on and jerked about by a bunch of fucking jerkheads – Estrada was the duly elected president of the republic, idiotic as he may be or lacking in self respect as he may be but he was the duly elected by the people, the Constitution said so; the AFP did wrong by not defending him from the mob; it was their constitutional duty to arrest coup d’etat plotters like the Arroyos because by protecting the president of the republic who had accepted to be impeached. The people who ousted a constitutional president put back our nation to the dark ages! That’s where we are today!

  54. parasabayan parasabayan

In less than five minutes, Gen Miranda, Gen Lim, Col Querubin and all the other brave incarcerated officers will be in the Assperon Kangaroo court again! Let us pray that today, these brave officers will be set free. My prayer is for the Supreme Court TRO to be served to the Kangaroo Court today. Instead of keeping these brave officers in the detention cells, their brilliant minds can be used to fight the enemies that this Assperon can not fight! The morale of the junior officers and their men are the lowest in decades. These Garci generals are running the AFP, the same men in uniform they used to install this bogus president! How much more demoralizing can this be? And now Assperon is asking these soldiers to fight, for what? So, tiyanak will look good in the world, that she has installed peace in the Philippines? My ass! If I were even the lowest private, I will defy orders from these bogus president and the bogus Garci generals! So now, Assperon can only say “retreat” for now guised as “in keeping with the peace talks” with the Reds and MNLF! Talaga namang wala kang balls assperon at wala ka ring mandate!

  55. How very ironic! If my recollection is right, indeed it was Domingo (Class 69) who was being tapped to become PSG commander to replace Joey Calimlim (Class 66) but because someone had told Estrada that Domingo had been once a POW of the NPAs, he was kicked out of the short list for the job and guess who was recommended to be deputy to Calimlim who thereafter became PSG Chief? Fucking Esperon!

    PSB, we’ll pray with you.

  66. Also, I read a post here asking about the donation of equipment by the US through FMF; one thing that many people have got to realize is that the funds, partly in cash if there’s any at all but mostly in equipment, donated by the US are US controlled meaning they will never give the AFP cash outright.

There is a budget, say of 30 Million US$ geared for US aid to Pinas but all this is accounted for to the penny and that budget includes the cost of the balikatan exercises (if I’m not mistaken) and for all the other equipment that the US may donate to Pinas.

What is a bit difficult in the US FMF relationship with Pinas is this: Let’s say the US is donating 10 Hueys, those 10 Hueys are as is where is which means that if the 10 hueys cost 10 m$,you’ve got only 20 m$ left in the US aid but that’s not the end – the hueys may very well need upgrading or refurbishment or whatever; the cost of upgrade and refurbishment is shouldered by the AFP so that the company, say Lockheed Martin which is a commercial company upgrades the aircraft or Marshall or whoever, that company makes money on the back of the AFP… there’s no such thing as free lunch, not even on pure equipment donation.

One of the recent ships that the Navy received through the FMF was costed at say $5M but the weapons systems upgrade and refitting of the ship cost the Navy a lot more – to the tune of $20M. Northrup Grummann made lots of money there but of course Pinas is led to believe that it was equipment donation!

My foot! No such thing as straightforward equipment donation!

Not even those equipment made of tin can from Korea which were “given” to Pinas! A Korean commercial company made money on the refit!

  67. Anybody in the AFP who says that a major equipment was pure donation from the US, i.e., aircraft, ships, other weapons systems, is barking mad!

True, the “bargain sale cost” of said major equipment is deducted from the US FMF budget for Pinas but usually the equipment comes from the motballed equipment arsenal of the US and therefore needs re-fit and upgrading that Pinas ends up shelling billions of pesos that it hardly possesses!

Even the night vision goggles were not donated by the US – ok some of the purchase money was taken/deducted from the FMF but not all the 300 pieces or so but only a portion; the rest had to be paid by Pinas in cash!

  68. I could tell you that up until a couple of years ago, ok 5 years ago, 2 submarines were for sale at only ONE MISERABLE million dollars a piece but the refit would cost the buyer nation some 100 M$ and does not include the training! Hehehehe!

The submarines were sold to Malaysia!

  69. So far, the biggest cash/aid donor to Pinas with virtually no strings attached or no commercial strings tied to the aid is Japan! Unparalleled in terms of aid by any country including by the best friend of Pinas, good, old, USA!

US which calls itself Pinas best friend is in fact the country that counts its aid to the cent with lots of strings attached.

Obviously, we can safely say that behind those strings attached, US is still the number 1 trading partner of Pinas so sige ok na lang ng ok ang Pinas maski palabasin na kunyari US is the best friend, donor, protector of Pinas…e di naman totoo!

  70. neonate neonate

There are many types of benefactors. Japan offers stringless aid, the U.S. with attachments, but what would the Belgian aid in the Burundi genocide be called?

  71. Neonate,

I wouldn’t know – why don’t you ask the Belgians!

  73. Aid to the Philippines is called ODA, which is now under strict scrunity by the Japanese taxpayers especially with regards to the connection of these aids to the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines. Malay nga naman ng mga hapon diyan.

In fact, when Erap was president, because of the bad publicity that he was incompetent and a crony of Marcos, Japan stopped all aids to the Philippines for a while. Then, when they decided to invite Erap for a state visit to Japan to discuss about these aids, he was removed from Malacanang and the publicity that the Poohtah was better made the Japanese decide to release a lot many of the pending ODAs to her government.

Now, some people at the Ministry in charge of these aids are feeling sorry and have asked for concrete evidences and proofs that these aids are being used properly to benefit ALL Filipinos, not just the Poohtah, her family, kindred and kin, and generals in the AFP.

In fact, a factfinding mission is being readied to visit the Philippines to check on these ODAs in the very near future.

BTW, the Poohtah, through the embassy here has asked to be invited again for a state visit, but Japan declined and gave the election as an excuse. Tagilid si Abe ngayon as a matter of fact, and a visit by a poohtah definitely would be bad for his image.

  74. parasabayan parasabayan

The officers and their men spend more time together than their own families. They are like real brothers. They eat and sleep together when they are on a mission. So, if they lose even one of their men, it is very painful.

I wonder what happened to Senga and Mayuga? Nawala na lang silang bigla. Or maybe they are now rolling in dough for concocting the “Left aligning with the Right” theory so the tiyanak could put away the Batasan 5, who in the first place helped her grab the presidency from Erap and to put the brave officers like General Miranda, General Lim, Col Querubin at al in jail. And Mayuga, I wonder if he is repenting now for white washing the Mayuga report. It does not matter what they did to their comrades and the erring system! It is the officers like the Garci generals: assperon, eddame,”alaga” et al who have destroyed the AFP. Shame on them!

  86. Yuko,

    Speaking of the “non-supotization”

Actually, this ‘unsupotizing’ of the male is inherently Jewish tradition, di ba? And not a Western Christian tradition. (Can anybody tell me if Muslim men are also ‘non-supotized’?)

What I suspect is that the ‘unsupotizing’ of the military in a nation which is predominanty a Christian nation produces adverse effects, kaya laging talo sa laban!!!

OK, this is only a suspicion, don’t take it seriously!

i have to laugh on this supot discussion. all males are born supot, but and the not supot anymore is called tuli’. in my time this is done before one enter the first grade, and in the provinces where there are not enough hospitals, this is done under deplorable conditions. this is probably why for some this is had become a test of boyhood. today this is done in the hospitals after birth.

  93. norpil,

thanks for the explanation “this is probably why for some this is had become a test of boyhood. ”

It therefore is wrong to believe that supots are inherently coward?

Admiral Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, Emperor Napoleon, Winston Churchill, Gen Charles de Gaulle and a host of the less famous but no less combat or battle field tested warriors were supots if we are to believe historians so in effect, perhaps it is time the Philippine military went back to the Christian tradition of maintaining the supotization of its men – because by unsupotizing them, they lose on the war front, almost like the Samson syndrome!

  94. Anna,

Muslims also follow the circumcision tradition of the Jewish and Christians because the practice actually started with Abraham, who is the father of all Jews, Moslems (thru Abraham’s son Ishmael), and Christians. It was actually more for hygienic reason than for anything else, and modern science in fact has proven that there are lesser men getting cancer there than those who don’t practice circumcision.

  95. Thanks Yuko. You confirmed my suspicion that Muslims are also supot because they are cousins to the Jews.

Is there failure of intelligence? It means the DILG is not communicating with the military. The death of 14 Philippine Marines could be prevented if both camps are really communicating each other.
