Three issues

Back from attending a family matter in our province in Antique, I find that the bulk of the contents of my mailbox can be divided into three main issues: the Basilan tragedy, the Human Security Act , and the proclamation of Juan Miguel Zubiri as the 12 th winning senator courtesy of the manufactured votes from Maguindanao.

Let’s leave Zubiri to his own karma. Like his principal, Gloria Arroyo, he will always be known as the product of cheating. Text messages refer to him as Daya na Zubiri.

A number of groups are up in arms against the inhuman Human Security Act. One such group is composed of law students of the University of the Philippines, yesterday filed a petition with the Quezon City Regional Trial Court seeking for declaratory relief on certain provisions of the Human Security Act. They are students of Atty. Harry Roque.

Joining them in the petition are the Moro Christian People’s Alliance, League of Filipino Students and Fr. Joe Dizon.

Foremost among the grounds cited by the group is the vagueness of the definition of terrorism. It lists crimes already provided for in the Revised Penal Code and in special laws and merely adds the qualifying circumstances of “sowing and creating a condition of extraordinary fear and panic among the populace” and “in order to coerce the government to give in to certain unlawful demand.”

We will be discussing more about his dangerous law in future columns.

On the Basilan tragedy, Martin Querubin, the son of Col. Ariel Querubin, shared with me the letter his father sent to the families of his “beloved

Col. Querubin, who had commanded the First Marine Brigade, is currently detained in Camp Capinpin in Tanay together with 9 other Marine officials including former Marine Commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda and 18 Army officials lead by Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim in connection with the February 2006 alleged plan to withdraw support from the bogus presidency of Gloria Arroyo.

Col Querubin’s letter reads:

“It is with personal sorrow, tears and grief that I convey my deepest sympathies to you and your family for the loss of a husband, father, brother, son and friend. I pray to our Lord that He consoles you during these very trying times, remembering that our MARINES fought not just for our country but also for the values of Christ.

“May you be strong amidst all these trials, and may you always bear in mind that your loved one did not die in vain. They will be remembered in our hearts forever, and their courage, loyalty and integrity shall inspire the rest of the corps to do its job with greater vigor, conviction and strength in the service of the country and for the greater glory of God.

“Personally, it has been an honor for me, having once been their commander in the 1st Marine Brigade, to have had the chance to lead such great MARINES. In behalf of my family, I would like to assure you and your family of our constant love and moral support and that we will always be with you in prayer. May the souls of our great soldiers find everlasting joy in paradise.

“May God Bless us All.”

There’s an ongoing vigorous discussion in my blog on the Basilan debacle. A blogger, Parasabayan, gives additional information on Querubin and other officers detained in Tanay: “True, all these beheaded marines were Col Querubin’s men! He was with them in Lanao de Sur.

He and those gallant marine officers like Col Custodio Parcon(also a medal of valor awardee),Col Orlando de Leon, Col Axhilles Segumalian, Col Armando Bañez, and most of all Gen. Miranda -must be feeling the pain of the useless death of his men.”

Anna, who blogs from Belgium, says, “Gen. Allaga as well as the commander Naval Task Force South have got to be slapped with command responsibility charge!

Blogger Spy goes to the root of the problem: “There is no bad military unit…only bad commanders. In our case today, the worst commander happens to be the illegitimate president.”

Forthright reactions on the Tipo-tipo fiasco is best described in this blog with three of our best bloggers’ comments aptly quoted by Ma’m Ellen in her widely read column in Malaya.

Parasabayan, Anna de Brux and Spy said it all.

It’s a failure of leadership at highest level. The buck stops at Malacanang’s doorstep. What do we expect from a bogus Commander-In-Chief?

    hi ellen,

as much as i deplore the present military command and the confinement of the most competent leadership, the greater part of our society’s disgust must be targeted toward the perpetrators of the marine massacre. their rationalization that it was a legitimate encounter does not justify one bit the decapitation of prisoners. if it was in fact a legitimate encounter, the MILF is brought to a higher standard of conduct under the geneva convention and protocols. i have no doubt the valiant soldiers, incompetent commanders notwithstanding, could not be beheaded unless they were captured. and when captured, they must have been treated as legitimate prisoners of war. captured and helpless prisoners cannot be lined up and shot, much less beheaded. the same standard we hold our military with regard to human rights apply as well to the MILF, as armed combatants in a war for self-determination.
this occasions a comprehensive condemnation from every sector of our international society. moreover, the MILF’s lack of disavowal of the acts (in fact, they seem to approve of it as a legitimate encounter) makes them liable for war crimes. its leadership must lose its stand as a representative in negotiations and condemned to life of running, threat of capture, conviction, and confinement. their crimes go beyond a local application but invites international condemnation too. the afp must secure for itself international support for the prosecution of the MILF leadership for these crimes.

it would be great if your circle of influence could get that into the minds of the afp leadership as i doubt they would think of it themselves. i have never been a fan of the present afp, but these goes beyond political affiliation. this is for the honor of our men who serve a war in which, it seems, their leadership occasions to make money. this is to fight for the men who lose their lives because the politicians cannot find a way out of the mindanao situation. this is for the dead soldiers.

No doubt, inHumane Security Act is gloria’s blanket authority to kill more! Designed at first to control the militants and reds, her HSA now becomes her ultimate weapon to instill fear/abduct and murder her critics. This terror law justifies the extra judicial killings her fake authority committed and will commit.

All in the name of poooh-tah gloria in fake excelsis!

  5. Dying for their leader’s ineptness, the 14 marines were given, P15,000 burial assistance, scholarships for their children, a house and P100,000. This is what these brave men get for dying in a treacherous way.

Our athletes fare better than these poor souls. Isn’t it unfair to hail Pacquiao as a hero? The lavish welcomes cities give him, our athletes treated to a Disneyland trip. Gold medalists given millions. Sure they give the country honor but its nothing to up one’s life for country.

So a lowly soldier has to die first to get all these benefits while their generals sit in their air-conditioned offices and live in mansions. For sure the kids these soldiers left behind will be attending public schools while their generals’ children attend private, expensive and sometimes foreign schools.

See anything wrong? I know you all do. And I’m hating it!

  6. Hi Schumey,

The unfairness of it all must be stopped! This government mustn’t gloat over the money they’d be giving the families of the fallen soldier. The fallen soldier earned those perks by right!

One thing I’d like to say which I wrote in the previous thread is that we at Ellenville should condemn the MILF in the strongest terms for a barbaric act.

Here’s my comment in the previous thread:

Let’s be categorical about one thing – despite the fact that we have some of the most incompetent, corrupt, hideously inept military leadership, we can only and must condemn in the the strongest terms the killing of the Marines with 10 of them beheaded. There is no going around it – this is unacceptable.

To me, all parallel armies MUST BE DESTROYED – there can only be one official army. MILF is one barbaric parallel army and should be destroyed. I don’t accept that they should believe they run one part of the territory and says that it’s theirs.

Our government is duty bound to ensure the destruction of such barbaric parallel army. This government must stop this peace talk nonsense, throw out those malaysian advisers and pummel the MILF!

If Esperon cannot do that, he should resign or be relieved illico! Bottom line is time to give our AFP the support they need today!

  7. TurningPoint TurningPoint

We will not be surprised if Col. Q’s letter to the bereaved families of the dead marines will be suppressed any moment now. I’m afraid they will immediately apply all means within their power to avoid an avalanche of sympathy from the soldiers who are not unaware of the corruption in the military and lately on the failure of intelligence that resulted to death of their fellow soldiers in Basilan. We are certain that Esperon and his hordes of Gloria lickers at AFP will be in panic on the impact of Col. Q’s letter once widely circulated.

  8. TurningPoint TurningPoint

In the news is about 9,000 soldiers will be fielded in anticipation of protest rallies and mass actions in time for the opening of the 14th Congress. We could glean from this deployment that Gloria and Esperon are not concentrating in the hinterlands of Basilan to go after the MILF but in Metro Manila to secure her going to the Batasan Pambansa for her SONA.

We could imagine that once the Col. Q’s letter is read by these soldiers, it will turn out as the spoiler and spell doom to Gloria’s SONA. Who knows, in a fit of rage thinking of their fallen fellow soldiers, some from the ranks will fire volleys of shots not in the direction of the demonstrators and rallyists, but to whom it may concern. We don’t know, it might just happen during the SONA.

  9. Re: In the news is about 9,000 soldiers will be fielded in anticipation of protest rallies and mass actions in time for the opening of the 14th Congress.

    Holy cow! Unbelievable!

  10. TurningPoint TurningPoint

I heard it over the radio that they are soldiers but according to the Daily Tribune: 9,000 cops fielded to secure vital installations during Arroyo’s Sona

A total of 9,000 policemen would be deployed to secure vital government and private installations in Metro Manila during President Arroyo’s 6th State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 23.

But then, who will believe that the 9,000 men are from PNP alone? And for them to secure vital government and private installation is another lie. It’s Malacanang they will secure. Alam ng lahat, private installations have their own hired security guards for protection. Ditto with government offices.

Macshock, These people we are dealing here are barbaric warriors and it is in their culture, they don’t understand what is geneva convention is all about, except, maybe ginebra san miguel convention. They are a bunch of Jihads freak, Jihad is a religious duty upon every muslims in general. It involves death and killings of men. Jihad means war against non-muslim.

Probably some of this MILF or ABU’s warriors are a good person also, maybe, they are unaware that many of their recent or distant ancestor entered the Abu Sayaff group at gunpoint. Kumander Robot (naala-ala ko patay na pala ) dominance gripped villages and barrions. They undoubtedly embraced the group not only to survive, but, to avoid paying revolutionary tax. Except for those who joined for personal gain or an outlaws, for the purpose of survival for themselves and for their children. They are inducted to this kind of killings and beheading to please their master, Those who respond to the order of Abdullah the master are enthralled with a promise of glory, a virgin innocent captive hostage maybe, ala, Jalosjos, however they may still have some remorse deep inside .Abu Sayaff become a conscripted army.

Now, How in the hell Esperon can capture all of them and brought to court, oftentimes they don’t have a day in court because SPO1 and SPO2 let them escape. How much more a Geneva Convention? SPO1 and SPO2 will have a genebra convention in a stripped bar. If you know what I mean.

  18. Civilian protests and rallies should not be the concern of the military. It is not gearing for war. It is plain and simple freedom of expression, so why the need for the 9,000 soldiers who should have been sent to the warfront if indeed the discontent in Minddanao is war being waged by the Moslems for their freedom? The police should be able to handle the maintenance of peace, law and order in the city. I would protest and be angry if I were Mayor Lim especially with his Manila’s Finest reactivated as in bygone days.

The Moslem problem should not have been the concern of the AFP but the local police backed up by the NBI as when they solve crimes in the US since the Filipinos are fond of copying the Americans, who BTW do not use their military except in times of a national calamity as when they tried to keep law and order in devastated New Orleans.

Basta kapalpakan diyan magaling si Gloria Poohtah and her generals!

The Greedy Monstrous Aswang (GMA) is bleeding the Philippine Nation Dry!! With 869 deaths and over 200+ disappearances, illegal arrests, torture, intimidation, and harassment, political killings continue to be an almost daily occurrence in the Philippines since GMA took power in 2001. No one has yet been prosecuted for these crimes and there continues to be complete denial and lack of action from the Philippine government in regards to this issue. The recent reports of United Nations Rapporteur Philip Alston, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and along with the report of the GMA government-appointed Melo Commission, have found strong evidence of the Philippine military and police as the perpetrators of these killings.

Monday, July 23 marks GMA’s State of the Nation Address (SONA). She will be going on Philippine national television to express her administration’ s accomplishments in the last year. But the truth is, GMA is bleeding the Philippine nation dry with her Administration’ s rampant human rights violations and economic policies that continue to keep the majority of Filipinos in poverty and drive an alarming number of Filipinos to work overseas.
Join us as we express our outrage in front of the Philippine Consulate to relay a strong message to GMA that Filipinos and freedom-loving people in the U.S. are outraged by her Administration’ s atrocities.

    WHEN: Monday, July 23, 2007, 5:30-7:00pm
WHERE: San Francisco Philippine Consulate, 447 Sutter St,

  26. Anna: 9,000 cops or soldiers?

Hahahahahaha!

  27. chi chi

9,000 cops to secure gloria while reading her fantasy report to the nation! Unbeli-bedol!

  28. Alam mo Chi,

War is a very very expensive affair – every single bullet costs money, every single mortar shell costs money, every single bomb and rocket from a heligunship costs a ‘bomb’ (thousands of pesos) – for a country that says it has no money to spend on the most basic of human necessisties, i.e., education, medical and a few others, this is one country that thrives on war.

If we are to follow the tenet that there should be war, then the war should help boost the economy but this is not happening.

In other countries, war becomes a nation’s economic propulsion of sorts, i.e., war production grease the wheels of the nation’s economy kind of, but in Pinas, lugi all the time – walang profit for the nation. In a country like Pinas that has been on an endless war (even against its own), a people that prides itself of possessing the right intellect, the right education, the right brains (kuno), why hasn’t this country produced its own war technologies, after all the technologies or high tech equipment that we in the civilian world use everywhere today were offshoots of war technologies…

I’m starting to believe Yuko who says that ang mga Pinoy puro yabang lang.

Look at Malaysia – they have produced so much war equipment derivatives, Singapore, the same, even corruption riddled Indonesia produces their own helicopters…

What’s wrong with Pinas or Pinoy brainpower?

Why do some groups still appeal/urge gloria pidal to end the killings?!!!

I’m so dismayed with the horrors happening in Pinas…makatulog na nga muna at baka merong maganda pang umaga para sa aking mahal na bansa!

  31. Why can’t we build our own ships? We have the naval (military) architects that we spend money on when we send them abroad for schooling – remember their time out for schooling is paid for by Pinas and not by the foreign military school; we have the naval dockyard that we can use, the equipment to build is easy to procure (BOT can do the trick) but why do we have to keep on buying the bloody platform from abroad when our own navy can build the ships even under BOT or BOO scheme; it’s provided for in our laws that is on self reliance!

We have the ability to produce our own ammos but why don’t we have homegrown industry on ammo? Simple, because we prefer things that are foreign even when the objective is to kill our own with that foreign bullet!

    Tama si Yuko, puro yabang!

  32. chi chi

    Anna,

I wonder why pinoys don’t display enough hate or rage for incidents like the Tipo-tipo. Pinoys are so fragmented-minded and seem resigned already that this tianak will rule Pinas forever.

    TP;
9,000 troops invasion is a declaration of war. Imagine the level of military force that would be needed to pacify the displeasure of the people towards Trapolita in that area in Metro Manila. It will become a battle zone. Why? Is GMA and Esperon are both insecure? Well, Bayani Fernando is the recipients the most of them all, it increase his budget in trash collection. But, my fear are those 9,000 troops carry body-bags also? It can turn out ugly! Political critics cleansing!

Stupid as stupid it is, after all, think about it, the wounds in Tipo Tipo is not healed. The Abu Sayaff beheaded the most elite troops in the country’s army, THE MARINES, has not been able to conquer such a small banditry of MILF lost command because the most decorated soldier Col. Querubin is in jail. Also, the demeaning factors is that the combat planner don’t send air and ground reinforcement. According to Tongue the platoon leader sent a mis coded word of missing “R”.Despite fear on the contrary, there is no possibility that these porkless diet warriors will defeat and beheaded our gallant soldiers if the “Supot” arrived on time. They’ve been abandoned! In a game of cheese it is a pawn sacrificing to save the Queen.

It is a pooh-pooh idea for the troops Metro Manila invasion, perceiving militant demonstration as simply a technical intimidation that can be mandated whenever the fake president feels that her personal security involve or even the welfare of her protege the uncircumcised Esperon.

But, can these soldiers refuse orders of the president, She’s their commander-in-cheat. You can all argue with me all night long. These soldiers will obey orders because it is not their job to determine what is legal or not. Like it or not, because their mentally handicapped president ordered them to do so!

  35. chi chi

    Anna,

My hubby was in Navotas couple of years ago and saw the concrete ship built by our own navy. It was beautiful he said, but as to whether it was eventually used or not, he had no knowledge.

Sure, our naval architects can build ships. The million dollar question is…are they getting support from the higher ups? As you said, puro kurakot!

  36. chi chi

    Mentally handicapped fake president!

  37. Anna,

Tignan mo naman ang ginawa doon sa innovative Villaruel, who has designed his own plane right? Ang daming gustong gawin ng mamang iyan to boost up the morale of the Philippine soldiers hindi lang para maging tsimoy ni Gloria Poohtah and those American GIs. O ano ang ginawa, pinapatay kasi maraming ibubulgar laban kay Poohtah that he himself helped propped up at EDSA 2. I understand that he designed a military plane that could be produced for use of the Philippine soldiers pero walang nangyari. Sayang!

  38. Anna,

You can see that “yabang” among the Philippine dignitaries who come here.

But when I tell them that I may not have gone to Harvard but had a diploma from Oxford U and a certificate for TOEFL from Cambridge in UK, hindi sila makakibo! Payabangan din lang ang hanap, di pagbigyan! 😛

Iyong ngang Poohtah, ipinagyayabang ang Georgetown U e wala naman siyang diploma from that university, and I doubt if the university will give her one, baka honoris causa!

  39. You bet, Anna, war is expensive and should not be pursued, but look, America was able to get over its economic depression in the 20’s and 30’s by its own promotion of these wars between WWI and now, and pretend to be the peacemaker when it is not.

Doon sila nabuking in fact sa atake nila sa Afghanistan and Iraq. Hindi pa nga sila nabisto sa Vietnam but God has His Way of dealing with these wannabe oppressors pretending to be peacemakers like wolves in sheep’s cloak. Natalo sila noong mga payat na Vietcong!!! Mukhang talo din sila sa Iraq. Will see what happens in Afghanistan where the Canadians, et al have joined them.

Signs of the times. Gotta go!

It is very good to dream the impossible dream. But, before we have a fantasy dream of building our own Military Ships and Plane. Let them first patented the military’s creation of sturdy screwdriver.
Let the Philippine Armed Forces make their version of powerful armalites. Even their combat boots are made in China. How can they the produce a Tank. They are using a Tank on their battle operation Tulak-Ka-Tank.

Yes, that dreams in building plane and ships and even space ship to land on the sun at night, it can be done. But, First. we need to cut both arms of Jose Pidal.

This lead officer in the Tipo tipo incident may just be new and may not have gotten the intelligence guidance she should have had. The commanders should be investigated. Where were they when the encounter occured?

I was teary eyed when I watched the Bandila where Col Querubin’s letter to the marines was featured. Mabuti pa si Col Querubin marunong makiramay. Ang assperon, ano ang sinabi? Na kailangan pahalagahan ang peace talks. Pwe!

“On Querubin’s decision to shave his head to protest the beheadings, Maria Flor Querubin, the wife of the former commander of the First Marine Brigade in 2006, said, “These were the men who cried with him.”

“He wrote each of them [families of the casualties] a personal letter expressing his condolences,” said Mrs. Querubin who was at the trial.”

Palace: GMA Sona to get ‘passing grade’ from Pinoys

    07/18/2007

Malacañang yesterday bragged that the 2006 State of the Nation Address (Sona), given the targets achieved by President Arroyo, would receive a “passing grade” from the Filipinos.

In a chance interview, Press Secretary and concurrent presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye, however, said the Chief Executive would not detail all accomplishments she made since last year.

“Otherwise, it would exceed the 45 minutes planned speech she (Mrs. Arroyo) will deliver,” he said.

This early, Bunye dismissed waves of criticisms from Arroyo critics that the Chief Executive’s Sona should not focus on fictitious achievements as with the past six Sona’s she delivered, which only reflects her poor governance.

“We would not dignify them (critics), we would just refer to the third party, the public as the judge on her performance,” he said.

“…But, can these soldiers refuse orders of the president, She’s their commander-in-cheat. You can all argue with me all night long. These soldiers will obey orders because it is not their job to determine what is legal or not. Like it or not, because their mentally handicapped president ordered them to do so!”

    Reaksyon:

    ang kasalukuyan Konstitusyon, may sagot na dito na gasgas na palusot;

Article II, Declaration of Principles and State Policies,
Section 3. The Armed Forces of the Philippines is the protector of the people and the State. Its goal is to secure the sovereignty of the State and the integrity of the national territory.

  54. Zen2:

Marcos was at least legally and legitimately elected the first time he ran for president. The Poohtah just grab and grab, and then depended on cheating all throughout her political career no doubt.

Talk to the people in Tondo, majority of the people there say, “Buti pa noong panahon ng Martial Law!” This time, there is not even a Martial Law declared but you see thousands and thousands of soldiers being deployed to Baseco, etc. Worse, nagpadala pa ng medical team to check on the kidneys of the residents there, and then someone tells organ brokers whom to lure to sell any organ they have in pairs “to donate for a fee.”

Worse is that the laws are made but are being circumvented and interpreted according to the wiles and whims of the Poohtah like the new policy (kuno) on organ transplants and organ sales especially to overseas patients.

The new policy according to a doctor we interviewed via long distance call is said to be for better control of the sales of organs, but we have heard and even recorded on TV a lot many of these transplants done on Japanese that have caused Japanese authorities to check since this organ transplant is limited to the nearest of kin as donors. There is a ban in fact on this organ transplant done overseas because of the moralistic implications.

This makes me wonder if those beheaded soldiers, reported as mutilated in many newspapers, have their organs still intact when their remains were delivered to their families. Dapat iyan tsene-check ng mga kamag-anak nila.

Karumaldumal!

71. Magno,

That’s exactly what I was proposing.

Inasmuch as we have been at war (even if with each other) for decades, we should become more entrepreneural and use this war experience to develop our own technology.

Such technology development could benefit the economy, improve our tech prowess since there will be many derivatives for civilian use, boost employment, etc.

The US, the biggest, largest arms and weapons developers in the world rake in the biggest and largest profits from their technology – remember offshoots of these techs are civilian friendly, computers, cell phones, radars, radio, GPS, sattelites, your TV sattelite dishes for instance, aircraft systems, and a million others.

Maybe, there would be less warring when people find they have jobs!

Of course, major equipment i.e., submarines, fighter aircraft, missiles, sophisticated weapons systems (fire control systems for instance), etc. may still be purchased from more developed nations but listen, RADIO COMs for instance can very well be developed in Pinas with potential market in the Asia region! We need radios in the military, we use them, they’re the easiest to make, so why don’t we make them? Why do we keep buying them abroad? Besides these radios that we supply the AFP could very well come from Malaysia or are Malaysia manufactured because Malaysia has the license to produce British-made radios that are supplied to to the US military (Raycal)! Completely gobsmacking!

  78. “sowing and creating a condition of extraordinary fear and panic among the populace” and “in order to coerce the government to give in to certain unlawful demand.” – The preceding definition of a qualifying circumstance of a terroristic act reminds me what Simon Ibarra( pseudonym, of course)did in February 22, 1986. His “naughty” apocryphal story to a Lt. Col. of the Ver Camp triggered the confirmation of a supposed coud detat which could have happened. Ver made his preventive moves after that leak. So thereafter, Enrile and Ramos made their exodus towards Camps Aguinaldo and Crame.

Enrile and Ramos were unwillingly followers of Corazon Aquino. (Just hope that these two on their death beds will confirm what this Simon Ibarra is telling about.)

When the Marcos group finally knew what really happened and Enrile disatisfied with the new breed of thieves that Ali Baba Marcos left, they tried to consolidated on July 6(7) at Manila Hotel with the VP of Marcos, Arturo Tolentino declaring himself as Acting President. The new breed of thieves knew better, they barricaded Manila Hotel so the crowd would not reach an unmanageable mass.

This coup started the series of 7 coups of which the Modulo 7 Marcos even in his twilight years in Hawaii was still presumably so obsessed.

  79. continuation of Newhaus’ comment:

We should also look back at the history of the returning Halley’s Comet that comes to Earth every 86 years. The Comet was sighted February 7 and though not visible to the naked eye was nearest to Earth 3rd week of February to early March. Marcos the psychic, seer, and mystic was presumably very aware of all of these events. (Did he not assassinate Julio Nalundasan on the eve of September 20 or early morning of 21st?

The only way we can trace the mastermind of Plaza Miranda Bombing, Martial Law, assassination of Ninoy Aquino, Carmeling Crisologo and other important people and events of the Marcos era is that strange Modulo 7 effect.

The Three Wise Kings of Biblical Herod days followed the Star of Bethlehem in search of Jesus, or was it a comet?

Those who crafted the Human Security Act(one of them is Enrile) must be reminded that in EDSA 86, any rush move of Marcos would have spelled violence of unimaginable proportion. Marcos perhaps knew like Herod that not all those teenagers he incarcerated for imagined political crimes in the 70’s would soften in spirit and will rise up from nowhere to bring him down.

  80. continuation of Newhaus’s comment:

In 1986, the hero was not Juan Vicente Ressurrecion ( PMA Class 1978, classmate of Ariel Querubin, Danilo Lim and some infamous GMA loyalists). He made that now forgotten suicidal press conference(see picture-front page Manila Bulletin(Feb 22, 1986, flanked by Jose Laurel, Doy Laurel and BP member Padilla of Nueva Viscaya – he run for Senator under Ping Lacson, and just won back his seat in Congress): that he would die fighting Marcos that serving a corrupt government. That he would the beans, the corruption of the Philippine Constabulary under Fidel Ramos. Ressurrecion, Buddy as he is called by those who knew him was from the Finance Management Division of Camp Crame, (UPMBA).

Like Ibarra of Rizal, a terrorist by definition of the new Human Security Act, Simon Ibarra of ’86 leaked at around 10:15AM of February 22, 1986 to the Ver Camp that the Sigma Rhos of Enrile were planning a Civilian-Military Junta. Whether the Sigma Rhos or Enrile at his deathbed would admit it is for historians to wait for.(Are not the Sigma Rhos the most powerful fraternity in the country today, if we believe the pedantic Rene Saguisag?)

The revelation upset Marcos who wavered at those most crucial early hours of the afternoon of February 22nd. Marcos the legal genius yet strangely mystic who like Napoleon, Alexander, or any great leader of history usually are, was relying on his very close relationship with Ronald Reagan to overcome the crisis but politicians like Richard Lugar took the offensive and won

  81. continuation of Newhaus’ comment:

Just hope this piece of fiction or non-fiction would reach Antonio Trillanes IV.

Is he that young boy who together with his mother were near the Rizal Monument at the Februry 16, 1986 Corazon Aquino proclamation of herself as the true winner of the February 7, 1986 snap election? There were many PSG personnel in civilian clothes at the area then, and there were umbrellas too.

Only a boy with a clear memory and a sense of history would remember that incident. He must have seen and talked to Simon Ibarra of 86.

What is/are the lesson/S for Filipinos out of this fiction or non-fiction?

Rogue leaders are reasonable! They cry to high heavens if their lives are in danger. Once they know for sure that justice is meted to them promptly they will think twice before they violate universal norms of right conduct. We should not be a forgiving society. Let us be punish the wrongdoers whether they are the Enriles or Ramoses, Aquinos, Estradas, and that economist just waiting to be kicked out. They led us EDSA86, the only real catharsis of our society that were are proud of. EDSA86 was not a Cory, Ramos or Enrile event. They were just symbols that the Filipinos then have to rally behind to liberate themselves from a genius who had the illusion of unending powerhold. They’re no longer the 55 Million coward Filipinos. If these rogues have done something good, let us give them medals, laurels and accolade but still shoot them at Luneta by a firing squad like Lim Seng to create an atmosphere of fear on future wrongdoers. Only fear of death, like fear of eternal damnation could discipline the deviants of our society. Otherwise deviancy becomes the norm and we are all headed leaving our country for good or prepare ourselves for a long power struggle where violence is the norm.

  82. continuation of Newhaus’ comment:

Now we have a generation of Antonio Trillanes IV, those children of 86 who thought EDSA was a picnic. If Trillanes was that child at Luneta, his talk with Simon Ibarra must have lain the seeds of Oakwood. Are there Simons out there? Try! It is dangerous but it’s worth it!

Give me liberty or give me death! Isn’t these words the battlecry of the founding fathers of the American Revolution?

Onward Christian/Muslim soldiers…marching us to peace!

I mean Dayana Zubiri.

But, I enjoyed your posting .I’m going to hire a lawyer to draft you a letter for the reimbursement of my optholmological consultation. Hehehehehe!

gusto ko sana ng tonong; there is now hardly an excuse NOT to….

medyo busy nitong huli, at pasilip-silip muna. salamat muli.

Tangna talaga, nakakangitngit!
