Trillanes:Arroyo gov’t has no moral right to offer amnesty

by Ashzel Hachero

Detained Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has rejected an “all-encompassing” amnesty proposed by Speaker Jose de Venecia.

“I won’t accept an amnesty especially coming from such an illegitimate government. That’s the easiest way out but I would not accept it,” Trillanes said Thursday after attending a hearing of his coup d’état case at the Makati regional trial court.

Trillanes, a leader of the Oakwood in 2003 when he was a Navy lieutenant, is asking the Makati court to reverse its decision junking his petition to attend Senate sessions.

Trillanes said the Arroyo government has no moral legitimacy to offer an amnesty.

He said it was just a propaganda ploy designed to gain public sympathy after a spate of scandals and controversies.

“The Arroyo administration should not be there in the first place so why would I accept such a preposterous proposal?” he said.

De Venecia has said he is proposing the amnesty proclamation for political crimes committed by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the communist group, “and the elements of the extreme right who have been involved in destabilization.”

Detained Capt. Nicanor Faeldon, through lawyer Trixie Angeles, also said he would not accept amnesty.

Angeles said Faeldon has done nothing wrong and should not even be in jail for voicing out his grievances against corruption in government and military.

Also on Thursday, military officers facing mutiny charges in connection with the February 2006 aborted withdrawal of support from President Arroyo dared De Venecia to go beyond “floating” his proposed proclamation.

Mabuhay ka Sen. Trillanes! Mabuhay ka Capt.Faeldon! Mabuhay kayong lahat! Sen. Trillanes said: “Arroyo has no moral right..” Ang tingin ko “she has no morals”..At hindi ako bulag.

  2. goji goji

What’s interesting is that while Trillanes and the rest of the brave detained soldiers refuse the amnesty being offered if this comes to reality, President Estrada and his son Jinggoy welcome it. I’m now a bit confused…confused because I didn’t expect that from my two idols.

  3. rose rose

Trillanes said..”it is an easy way out..” convenience is the thing! Pero kung may ambition si Jinggoy beyond 2010 to borrow the words of Kiko: Noted.

  4. Erap disowns the statement made by Rufus Rodriguez, his spokesperson.

    Rodriguez said he was misquoted.

  5. goji goji

As far as I know, Jinggoy is eyeing either the Vice or President in 2010. He may team up with Villar. That explains his softening stand these days. Of course it has the blessing of his father in Tanay. To be honest with you, I’m now having second thought of these Estradas whom my family have supported since the beginning.

  6. goji goji

Well Ellen, let’s then give Estrada the benefit of the doubt.
The trouble with people these days is that they have the habit of denying and disowning what they have said when confronted.
And that applies to many of our politicians and celebrities today. Since Estrada is very much restricted in Tanay not even being allowed to use a cell phone, what about Jinggoy who has all the luxuries of time and resources as Senator? His joining the majority group to support Villar, his surprising defense of Mikey and Iggy Arroyo for chairing two power committees, his welcome of the amnesty being worked out…all these point to a different Jinggoy. Is Jinggoy doing these on his own or with the blessing of his father? Only the two know…not their Spokesman Rufus.

  7. TurningPoint TurningPoint

As I posted here very much earlier, Sen. Trillanes and Erap will never waver in their previous stand not to accept amnesty because primarily, they believe they’re not guilty of the charges levelled against them and second, they will never become part of a charade called “Amnesty Me”.

As to Jinggoy, he’s his own man. He’s acting on his own and don’t want to stay under the shadow of his father. It’s part of his politics because as we observed, he didn’t want to be tagged as always following what his father says which did him when he fought JV’s candidacy by putting his own men. Don’t forget that he’s just under temporary liberty.

  8. goji goji

But my friend, Jinggoy must not forget that he was elected mainly because of his father. If he keeps contradicting his father and makes a different stand on important issues, does it help him and his career? Does he think he can win a higher position in 2010 without his father? Even now, many are already dismayed with Jinggoy. Jinggoy can never get away from his father’s shadow. If he does that’s the end of this political career. How did he become the mayor of San Juan if not for his father? So, it doesn’t make sense why he has to have opposing views right now. Or is it because there are some family reasons or problems that we don’t know. Remember Estrada once mentioned JV was his favorite. That could be one way a spoiled brat Jinggoy gets back at his father.

  9. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

  10. goji goji

So you’re saying Jinggoy is willing to give up his father as long as he Jinggoy is set free? Of course the fact that Jinggoy was allowed to post bail means his case is less than that of his father who’s the principal accused. If Jinggoy abandons his father and sleeps with the devil, he better go to hell.

Hudasan!

“The Arroyo administration should not be there in the first place so why would I accept such a preposterous proposal?”

Perfectly said Senator Trillanes. ‘Yan ang gusto ko sa senador, walang paligoy-ligoy kung magbitiw ng salita.

Capt. Nick Faeldon, mabuhay ka. Habang nandiyan kayo at hindi sumusuko sa mga pangakong napapako ni Gloria, mayroon pa tayong pag-asa na makawala sa nakakadismaya nating kalagayan.

  13. chi chi

Erap disowns the statement of his spokesperson, Rufus Rodriquez.

    Rufus said he was misquoted.

Easy way out sa kapalpakan ninyo!

What about Jinggoy saying they are open to the “amnesty me”? Misquoted din?

    Nakakabanas kayo!

  14. chi chi

    Goji,

Kapag ganyan palagi si Jinggoy, he’ll be a goner very soon. Even his father wouldn’t be of much help for the continuation of his successful political career.

  15. goji goji

Chi, people love and support Jinggoy due to their very high respect and admiration for his father. If he thinks he can be on his own and opposes his father’s wishes, he better watch out. This boy is very arrogant and has a bad temper. He acts like a toughie. But when Chavit Singson went to the Senate to confront him, Jinggoy was reported to have hidden.

  16. chi chi

    goji,

Exactly!

  17. goji goji

Do you know that JV cried in the presence of his father in Tanay when his father asked him to withdraw his candidacy? That shows how obedient this son is. Sometimes, children of second wife turn out to be better than the children of the first.

  18. rose rose

goji: now I understand..did Jinggoy grow up in the States?
If he did- karamihan sa mga laki dito ay “the easy way out”
His heart is not for the Philippines..did JV grow up in San Juan? If he did his heart is for the people of San Juan..mahal niya ang San Juan, mahal niya ang Pilipinas..

  19. goji goji

I don’t know if Jinggoy studied or grew up in the states. For one thing, his English is not that perfect…average or below average. He and his other brother Jude were known toughies when they were much younger. Jude’s gender is even in question. Don’t they look like spoiled brats? Sure they are.
Compare them to JV who has that masa-look. JV is very simple and polite.

And their spelling?? unbelievable. Kaya sa Spelling Bee, ang kadalasan na naging champion in every level ay Indian, Chinese or Filipinos..I teach CCD to public school children here in JC= grade 7 level..mas mahusay pa ang mga pamankin ko sa Pilipinas magbasa.

  21. goji goji

You said it. Americans (Canadians and others included) are only fluent in speaking but cannot write as well as the Filipinos. In the Spelling Bee contest, it’s Filipinos, Indians and Chinese that rank above these Americans.

  22. GinaCole GinaCole

It is so easy to generalized. Who said Americans don’t know how to spell? I have been working with ‘Americans’ or if you want to be spicific, the ‘white’ people, they’re just like anybody else. In general, they are nice people.

  23. goji goji

Are you talking to Rose or me, Ms. Nat King Cole? We did not generalize. We only cited facts. And you’re right, the ones in our mind are the whites…and blacks…the mainstream. If you’re a Filipina married to a white (most Filipinas are in US), then you’re excluded. Anyway, I personally regret if you got offended. It was never to be that way.

  24. GinaCole GinaCole

America is the ‘melting pot’ of the whole world and no one can deny that.

And I would like to correct the misinformation being posted here.

    Goji,
See, you tend to generalize – ‘most filipinas in US are married to whites’. How do you know? Is this based on facts or just your opinion? And how do you know if I am a woman, man, lesbian or gay? The internet is full of people with VERY fictitious screen names.

By the way, Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson are men.

Bakit ka ba galit?…I based my observatiions on my experiences working here. And if I may say so..I have been here before you were born..thus I can safely say that I have more experiences working with Americans..than you have even if you were born here..unless you are 90 years old..I was a volunteer teaching Americans spell and read..and I still teach. Rose, this is what you said: ” mali mali ang English ng karamihan sa kano”.

If you really are a teacher, you should know the importance of FACTS, not misinformation. Where did you get your FACTS regarding the Spelling Bee winners?

To you and Goji – better check your info before posting.

Gina..I aaid based on my own experiences and observations..
I did not say they were facts..I know the differnce of facts and fictions or for that matter observations. Ano ang masabi mo ngayon sa mga information na ibinibiay sa media re this issue on Mindanao..facts or fiction? Not because the news came from Malacanang they are facts. Most (not all) of what people say here are opinions. karamihan “many of” and not all may qualification ang statement ko. In accounting we always say in my opinion..kaya sanay ako sa in my opinion..it is my educational background. I respect people’s opinion.. kasi if we base our postings here on facts alone then we can not have a discussion.. people of your intelligence and breed are quite rare.. we are talking of two different things..ang sabi nga ni Charlie Brown “you are entitled to your own wrong opinion..Ciao!

    GinaCole,

I’m not in a position to defend tita rose..but reading the word “karamihan” ay di pag-gegeneralize..but if tita Rose used the word “lahat” yun ang generalization.. tulad din sa english..karamihan..means plenty ..but not “all” which lahat in tagalog.

am just hoping that AT4 including erap and all the 28 ecarcerated officers will remain to be a “men with word of honor”, not to take or otherwise attempt a bite in any kind of amnesty the evil president through JDV would offer them. and besides, they have not committed any crimes instead the evil president committed crimes for them.

JDV, first and foremost should know the content of the law, his responsibilities as a lawmaker, and the right persons whom this law applies. this is not a mathematics solving problem by “trial and error” to come up with the solution.

the proposed “all-encompassing amnesty” is highly appreciated and acceptable “if” the evil, cheater, and liar among all gloria arroyo and her cohorts who likewise committed crimes will be “excluded” instead bring them to justice.

gloria, free all polital prisoners you tagged as “enemy of the state”, stepped out from where you are sitting, and these honorable, ideal, and patriotic men would be glad to honor you ! wag mo nang antayin pang lusubin ka ng mga tao para kaladkarin sa kinauupuan mo! sobra na, tama na ang kawalanghiyaan at kayabangan mo! wala kang silbi na presidente sa totoo lang, wala kang puso!

  39. gokusen gokusen

yup, gma must freed all political enemies…especially “maas” Nur Misuari para malaman ng tao kung may kasalanan ba o hindi, kundi ang ginagawa ibinibitin ang pag-bail at pinaiikot ang taong bayan tungkol sa gulo sa basilan at sulu…ito ang magbibigay linaw sa gulong dala ng rehimen walang puso at kaluluwa!

  40. Ingles ng kano? My foster mother in England has this to say when she thought I was talking American, “You should stop talking American. Yuko, for Americans have murdered the English language.”

Since then, I have tried to speak like the Queeen when talking English!!! 😛

Rose is right. Maraming gagong mag-spell sa mga kano. Kaya nga ang nananalo sa spelling bee ngayon all over USA, my Asians!!!

  41. Gokusen:

If you cannot speak good English, OK lang.

I should know. As a Japanese, I get more “WoW!” from the Americans than what a Filipino can get from them.

Just like yesterday, when I went to Costco and the American guy saw my card issued in Japan, he asked if I were Japanese, and when I answered in the affirmative, biglang nagsisigaw ba naman doon na ipinakita ang Costco card ko na may nakasulat na “Japan” at saka iyong credit card kong Costco na gawa sa Japan. Gustung-gusto ko nang sabihan siyang, “Gunggong, para kang taong bundok na ngayon lang nakakakita ng sibilisasyon!” especially when I told him that over in Japan, our Costco has a parking lot on top of the Costvco buildiing na 3 stories high pa! Itneg talaga!!!

Ingat!

Gokusen, I do understand some people being offended when we criticize US’s involvement in Mindanao. Unless they can prove they are not there, they better shut up. It has been the US’s policy to get involved directly or indirectly in other countries’ conflicts. The Mindanao crisis happens to be one of the many…

I agree Tiago (‘hope you’re not Santiago, the good senator). Rose asks, “did Jinggoy grow up in the States?”

    Rose,
At dun nag-aral.

  52. goji goji

I think Loi and children returned when Estrada ran for Senator or was it earlier? It was obvious that Estrada and Loi are not really that sweet and close. Estrada seems to be more affectionate to Guia Gomez. When Loi learned that Guia had plan to run for mayor of San Juan last election while JV ran for Senate, Loi threatened to run independently on her own. Since that would embarrass Estrada, he advised Guia not to run. So, JV went back to his mayoral candidacy. Jinggoy also wanted to put his wife Precy as mayor of San Juan. In disgust, Jinggoy endorsed a different set of candidates instead of supporting Jinggoy’s team. Fortunately, only one of Jinggoy’s candidates won.
